We always park at National Wildlife Refudge and go through there. Views are Beaches and trees, forest and dunes, wild plants and wild life. Take plenty of water and sunscreen. A hat is always good. I take a day backpack when we go. Tick spray is also a great thing. I can't believe I have never written a review on False Cape State Park. We have had countless adventures hiking and biking. We prefer biking because hiking is a very long hike. There is a long stretch that is not shaded. It is a wonderful area. Very well kept. You can camp with a tent . If you get a camp site on the beach they also give you a second camp site just incase it gets super windy you can fall back to the second campsite. You can book all that with the park. OOO they also offer kayak tours too. I have not done the kayak tour through them but we are planning our kayak trip for this year. Again you book that through the park. They supply you with kayak, life vest and paddle. I think it is about 5 miles from Back Bay Wildlife Refuge to False cape State Park and a little further is the beach. Don't quote me on that. So a round trip on a bike is about 10 miles. And some of the trails around in False cape are so sandy we have locked our bikes at the gift shop and hike the sandy trails. There is a old historical grave yard and a church steeple on one of the trails that is a really cool walk. maybe about a mile round trip. I love the visitor center at False Cape. They have the nicest restrooms. They have snacks and drinks and a place to fill up your water bottles and If you want to get a cool tshirt or a beach towel or a refrigerator magnet they have that too. It is the prettiest visitor center and ALWAYS a friend staff inside to answer any questions.

Only bikes and hikes are allowed thru the Back Water Bay Refuge, to get to False Cape. 3.5-4 miles from BWB Refuge.That just gets you to the official sign/entrance to the park. It's another couple miles to the Visiors Center. Then miles of actual trail hikes and enjoying the park. Then , don't forget all those same miles to get back to your car. (BWB Refuge review to come shortly) It was an interesting hike into and out of False Cape on BWB trail. I finally made it to the sign/entrance for False Cape. Sat down, gulped my water and headed back to the car. What was at first an overcast day turned into a hot mess with a severe storm opening up as my foot touched the parking lot to get in my car! I may have been a weeny to get to the entrance and turn around to go back but a smart weenie I was, because, had I been stuck on that trail in that weather with massive lightning and torrential rain, my life would have been at stake. No kidding, my foot hit the pavement and BAM! It was insane. I'm so glad I listen to my instincts. As long as that trail was, 7.5 miles out and back, total, I knew time was limited and I wouldn't let myself stop for longer than a couple gulps of water and a quick pour over my head. Maybe I can go back in the next years. Why 5 stars? VA State Parks are always an adventure! I went! I made it! And I got back to my car just in time! Most of my story is for BWB Refuge, in which, I just told half that story here! It's hard to separate the locations into 2 reviews! 5 Stars for False Cape. The Southernmost VA State Park.

Little Island Park is a fantastic beach park with soft sand, clear water that's calm and easy to…read moreswim in, and plenty of amenities that make it a great place to spend the day. The park regularly hosts free concerts and community events, creating a fun atmosphere. There are two large, clean, and well-maintained restroom buildings, along with numerous picnic tables and a couple of grills, making it an excellent spot for a beach cookout or family gathering. Every time I've visited, there has been an ice cream truck parked nearby, and on other occasions I've also seen food trucks offering additional options. There's a small but very nice playground for children, and a sandy boardwalk that leads out toward the beach with beautiful ocean views. One thing I really appreciated was how many restrooms are available throughout the park, so you're never far from one. I also noticed brand-new tennis courts and basketball hoops. The basketball courts are adjacent to the large parking lot, but the lot is so spacious that it never feels crowded. In fact, every time I've come here, there have been hundreds of parking spaces available, making parking incredibly easy. One especially thoughtful feature is the electronic sign at the park entrance, which tells you exactly how many parking spaces are available before you even drive in. Overall, Little Island Park is a clean, well-maintained beach park with excellent facilities, beautiful scenery, and plenty to do, making it one of the best beach parks in the area.

From registering for the Shamrock Half, to the expo, the race itself, and the post-race after party, I thought everything was amazing. The Expo (Va Beach Convention Ctr): I picked up my bib on the 1st day, so it was somewhat crowded; however, things moved pretty smoothly. While I did not stick around to enjoy the festivities, there were plenty of vendors and things to do with the family to get the full expo experience. Like most expos, there were plenty of things to buy, but I did not get a sense that I was going to be harrassed to buy anything. Race day: This is a great race because the course is pretty flat. While most of it is a bit in and out for the half marathon, there are plenty of fun sights to see while running. The fluids stations were fully stocked, and there were not any major bottle necks at the start line and during the course. If I could make one change to the course, I wanted to spend more time running on the boardwalk. Other than that small complaint, everything was great. Post-race celebration: Here is where the real party was located. I was 100% pleasantly surprised that J&A Racing hosted the post-race party INSIDE of a huge pavilion tent because the temps were in the mid to high 30s. Swag: You definitely will get a lot of cool stuff with your registration fee. Pre- and post-race swag included a long-sleeve tech shirt, beach towel, cap, four beer tickets, a cup of a Irish stew (technically, soup), bag, and a bunch of snacks. *I feel like I'm missing something.* A couple of tips: -Be very careful with parking. Some of the tow truck companies were very predatory and towing cars left and right. -Arrive early to find well-priced parking. A few places were charging $35+ for day parking. This was disgusting because I'm sure they jacked up their prices because it was marathon weekend, which occurs during the off season. Fortunately for me, the parking garage at 25th St charged only $10 for 24 hr parking.

I've done all of the Shamrock Races, but the half is always my favorite. Well except in 2017. If you know you know... that race was BRUTAL! It's a flat and fast course. The scenery changes every few miles which is so great mentally and I've pushed myself to multiple PRs year after year. The crowd always comes out in force to cheer you on too. Everything is so well organized from packet pick up at the amazing Shamrock Weekend expo - full of vendors and world-class speakers to the finish line. I hope you're ready for a party- the Shamrock Weekend races have one of the best after parties in the business. It's a true celebration. I look forward to returning to Virginia Beach to run this one again and again!

*this is a cross posted review* I really wanted to take the time to shout out Pirate Parasailing…read more This is my 2nd time with them -- but they really went above and beyond to make sure our experience was a positive one. For starters, we had a cancellation so at last minute they worked it out to where we were able to pay a difference to let our other person go from Observer to Flyer! My mother had a stroke last month or so which effected her vision, which in turn effects her balance / way of getting around. As you could imagine walking on a moving pier, a shaky boat, and down some steps would be difficult. However, Captain Nolan, Jack, and even the other two riders that were with us REALLY went above and beyond to help my mom. They assisted her, helped her up, guided her, and really accommodated her. Our main concern was having my mom stand up on edge of the boat while we were hooked up but instead they allowed my mom to sit down and they brought the hookups to her. I could go on and on. The flight and experience itself was great! People were nice , landing and takeoff was smooth, and most importantly we felt safe! Thanks Captain Nolan, Stephen & Jack for really making my mom's FIRST experience a great one. She had a great time and enjoyed her outing. I really cant thank you enough for making her feeling comfortable and at ease. We will be back soon!
