Great, responsive customer service. And I really wanted to support local company. But I cannot pay $115 per month for internet download speeds that regularly range from 0.5-9 MBPS, (and frequently drop off entirely) and upload speeds of 0.9 MBPS. The slow speeds left my entire family constantly frustrated. And multiple service calls did not fix the issues. And on top of that, they recently announced a price increase! I went with AT&T, and now pay $70 per month for upload speeds of 25 MBPS and 6.5 MBPS upload. read more

Cruzio is extremely good with billing us, but fails to provide stable internet. Sometimes their internet works. From time to time, the internet at the Aptos library works in some areas, but not reliably. We (the library staff) are completely helpless! People are furious and we need to absorb all the anger like a punching bag! You can't expect too much from Cruzio; this is Santa Cruz, after all. The measure of a company is how they respond to problems. How do they support their customers? Internet outages happen. These are extremely complex networks. What is unacceptable, is having your service out for 11 hours and counting (yes my service is still out) and the provider can't be bothered to provide an updated status page, or an updated status message when you call. Moreover their stated hours start at 8am for support; it took 5 calls and more than an hour to get a human on the phone. This is a utility. An outage more than a few minutes should be an all hands on deck situation, with the bare minimum being a statement that you are aware of the problem. Over a week ago I think it was I had an issue and I thought it was a recurring issue with my Internet. Robert , my tech-support person at Cosio help me deduct that it wasn't the incoming signal and there wasn't a problem at the main box. Since there's been some repairs made at my cottage that has the second Internet source on it, we both thought perhaps the line had been covered. However, my ethernet cable inside been severed and that's what caused the problem so I went out and got an ethernet cable and thought nothing more of it and then today I got a call from Robert he was asking. I like supporting a local ISP that has good privacy policies. I have "wireless pro" service with a Ubiquiti microwave dish on my roof and the service is generally good (50-70Mb up and down), but probably not as good as cable. What I don't like is that I have to call them several times a year because of some network issue that they either haven't noticed or that they haven't updated their network status page. I should not have to alert them to widespread network issues, and it wastes my time to report something if they're already aware of it, but I have no way to know if they're already aware of it. They generally won't bother updating their network status page to mention an issue until they already addressed it. read more

This ISP is a genuine local gem who's been fighting the good fight since the dawn of the web in a community-focused way of which I've never seen the equal. They are that local indie ISP you hope to find but that has been stamped out of existence throughout much of the US: no data-"sharing" (the weasel-word most use to claim they don't "sell" your data), no throttling, no maximums, no logging, no restrictions against server hosts or direct connections (e.g. independent of cloud services), honest prices for superior service versus competitors even before factoring in the above, Herculean efforts to bring hard-line infrastructure to the far-flung and forgotten regions of the difficult terrain in the county and beyond, hugely significant special projects for local school and community center access, they just took the hit on low-income customers' affordability that Congress let expire after covid, it just goes on and on, a true model citizen. I'm a happy customer of 12 years and counting first on DSL in town, then dialup in Aptos, and now fiber back in downtown. In over a decade, downtime has been virtually non-existent, and that's including the rare scheduled times they notify you of well in advance (fewer than a half-dozen, if memory serves, across all these years, despite so many massive service installations and upgrades!). In Aptos AT&T claimed nothing could be done to salvage any of the street's copper landline infrastructure, but Cruz I/O proved that was false, and I had solid speeds for multiple years there, again with virtually no down-time, even off _copper_ landlines. You're doing not only yourself but the hard-working folks responsible for running the local economy's engine a favor by supporting a local business that doesn't just give back, it invests in the heavy infrastructure and advocacy required to establish better service with an eye toward an _affordable_ future for _all_. Cruz I/O deserves a friggin' medal, in my book, and they certainly have proven themselves worthy of my business, along with anyone's who'll listen to me about it! read more

I wanted to give a local company some business and it was a nightmare. Things were fine for a while and them my speeds went from 100 MBPS to 30 and under. They said they were going to give me a credit but never did. They claimed it was an 'upstream' issue, whatever that means. They couldn't answer when I asked. Then the outages started happening. We've had service up in the Santa Cruz mountains for about 15 years now. Originally service was provided by Skyline broadband, which was taken over by Coast side.net. And now finally, Crusoe has taken them over. In the 15 years that we had service before our service was out twice over that entire time. Service still worked even when the power went out and we used generator back up. In the few months that we've had the service since they took over we've had three outages we've called and didn't get a call back for two days where they left a message stating that the power was out. Obviously I know that but they should be on a back up. Assuming it's the same equipment that was used for with the previous company. Cruzio is currently, on this day at the time that I'm writing this review, running an ad quoting a price for their service for $49.95/month with free setup. I took a screenshot of the ad, attached here. I called them to inquire about the ad, the phone rep told me they weren't honoring the ad. He did not apologize or sound regretful at all. Cruzio, if you are running an ad and someone calls to give you business, you should honor the ad. At very least, sound like you care about your mistake and apologize. Bad service. read more

Cruzio basically saved my business and allowed us to grow. We are a production team based in Santa Cruz and have to upload files to our east coast production team each night. It used to take 4+ hours per job (and we had 4-5 jobs a day) I have been with Comcast for more than 10 years paying more than $300 a month for their "blast" but never got more than 10mbs upload speed max. We finally got an office in the cruzio building and we are uploading between 300-400 MBs and are now able to do more jobs each day, hire more people, and expand. They took the most annoying task with our job and turned it into a 5 minute task. Our company is so grateful. Oh also, I'd rather pick up dog shit with my bare hands, than to call into Comcast because the service is so terrible. I was shocked that the staff at cruzio is friendly, helpful, and amazing. So in summary- cruzio helped me escape Comcast, made the most annoying part of our jobs easier, and is a joy to deal with. Saving 8-13 hours a day simply uploading files has allowed our business to expand. My only regret is not getting the office 10 years ago and wasting my time and money with Comcast. read more

In May of 2023 (5 months ago) I switched from Xfinity to Cruzio Wireless Pro internet. I cannot give a high enough rating for this company, their responsiveness, and their internet service. 5 months in, I have had ZERO service interruptions. The speed through Wireless Pro is more than sufficient for my needs including multiple devices streaming, zoom conferences, and other internet needs. I found the installation team to be professional, efficient, and communicated clearly. I give Cruzio my highest recommendation for their Wireless Pro service. read more

6 Year Update: Still No Fiber. Despite my efforts to contact Cruzio, I have received no replies. Numerous potential solutions exist, such as MoCA, HFC, Fiber-to-Coaxial Active Ethernet Converters, OFS InvisiLight, ClearCurve, ClearPath, just to name a few. All of these options can be implemented with minimal drilling or modification to the building. Yet, it seems that even with such technology available, the mighty Cruzio still finds it challenging to provide a fiber connection in their own backyard. When I used Comcast my computer ran perfectly. I had to switch wifi because of the limited data use. That's how we found cruzio internet. They said it would be extremley better than comast. While they were installing the wifi dish on our roof, they had to drill a hole through our wall to reach the laction of the wifi machine. When the person went to drill through the wall, he drilled right through our lamp. He didn't even make the right hole. He was sick, first of all, and then he exploded our bathroom, if you know what I mean. Now my wifi on my computer sucks. The 5g and 2.4g signal goes up and down up and down up and down constantly. Fun company and co-work space Stopped in on a trip from out of town. Cruzio is a great spot for getting work done on the go-- fast internet, very nice staff, hip work space, sweet architecture, and a perfect location in the downtown area. Cool IT professionals to commiserate and exchange notes with, as well. Would suggest splitting Cruzio's Yelp profile across their consumer ISP, co-work, and business data line services. ISPs rarely get rated well as people naturally want uber faster speeds + no limits + cheap rates. My review is on the co-work space and the internet speed there. As a local company, Cruzio keeps profits and jobs in their community. That is always good to see. I'll use them again on my next visit. read more

The day I wrote this review, I called Cruzio and was talking to a technician within minutes. I can't say he was awesomest but he understood what I was saying and after checking my line could validate that it was happening. A couple of hours later I received a call from another, higher-up technician, who directly quoted my Yelp review when explaining that there's another consumer product besides Velocity called Wireless Pro, who's speed is dependent on proximity to a few towers around town, including on top of the Cruzio building, so I was mixed up on that. He scheduled a service call for 2 hours later (!), between 4-6. Two "tier 2" technicians were at my place at 5 to 4. They spent approximately 45 minutes and considerable effort to fix my problem. Everyone was professional and knowledgeable, so I'm bumping my rating up. read more

I have mostly used the Cruzio office rental setup, which was invaluable to me and my family, especially during the beginning of the pandemic as we struggled with internet connectivity, power disruptions from wildfires, PGE tree clearing, and storms. 10/10 would recommend. While Cruzio does not currently service the area my home is in, the staff there have helped me with shopping for other services in the past (POC. Chris Frost). I've always found the staff to be friendly, and knowledgeable. As soon as Cruzio makes its way up past Scotts Valley, I'm ditching Comcast for sure and going full speed ahead with Cruzio. read more

The staff here is amazingly talented and nice. They are a true grassroots - local - homegrown company. This place gave me my first internship. They provide reliable internet service at a reasonable price. Best of all if you have issues with your service they have a dedicated team to help you. And they are all real people in Santa Cruz. Its been a while since I've been here 5+ years so I dont know about their new services. Now they offer daily computer rentals (cyber cafe) and computer repair services. We purchased a new home 2 years ago and Cruzio couldn't promise high-speed Internet service to our address at that time. So, we've regrettably been in a Comcast contract for 2 years. I've had terrible support in the past from Comcast, and ultimately didn't want to go with them, but they were the only option. I'm happy to report now that, just last week, I got my Cruzio service installed and I'm now a happy Cruzio customer! The installers (Dave & Rafferty) were super..they cabled exactly the route that I wanted and were friendly and knowledgeable. Also, it bears mention that I've done some business with Cruzio over the years too, and they are just a wonderful company. DSL service to Capitola (95010) is terrible. I wanted to support the local company but the internet speed was unacceptable. If they can get fiber here I will go back to them. Also, the phone quality was bad. Friends could not call me from Berkeley and the service tech could not help with this problem. read more

From bad to bad. I thought AT&T was bad. Even though Cruzio gets mixed reviews on yelp, I thought they would be better than AT&T. Wrong! Here's what happened today, then some other tidbits. My Mac could no longer send a print job wirelessly to the printer. It turned out that my internet connection had reverted to default settings (perhaps due to a power outage) that made it no longer connected with the printer. Silly me, I thought that help was a phone call away, so I called Cruzio. The tech said he could not walk me through the process of correcting the problem (the process of creating a new connection name and password) over the phone and that I had to bring my computer in to their shop!! I could not talk him into helping me out so I asked to talk to a manager. He said that there was no one he could transfer me to because, at 1:45 p.m., they were all out to lunch. He said I should call back in an hour. He would not tell me any manager's name. When I groused about getting poor service and asked for his name, he hung up. This is just the latest in Cruzio's attempt to emulate AT&T. About two months after they set up my internet and phone connections, my internet went out. Over the phone, the tech told me to switch a phone connection. It turns out that their people put the phone line into the wrong jack. Have you looked at their hours of service? They provide tech support (for what it's worth) on Mondays through Friday from 10 to 6 and on Saturday from 10 to 2, except that they are closed on Tuesdays from 9 to 10. That's it? Do they think that because they are local, they can just give whatever little service they feel like? Some say that American values are on the decline. I guess they know Cruzio. read more
