As a teacher, it is hard to find time to do such things as write reviews, but considering the fact that I am still upset about this company after all these months should say something about the experience.
I called this company and spoke to Barbara, the owner, about a week before my move, which was scheduled for the Saturday before Labor Day. The only availability she had was on the day of my move, but since the movers were not scheduled to arrive until 3 in the afternoon, it made sense to have them come in early that morning to clean.
The place I hadn't moved into hadn't been rented out for a while, so there was definitely a need for a nice overall cleaning. It's important to know that there is also a lot of woodwork in the apartment that I really wanted them to focus on wiping down. The main requests were that they do a thorough job of the kitchen, including cleaning all surfaces, appliances, and all cabinets, both inside and out. I also requested that all fixtures, woodwork, and windows be cleaned throughout the apartment. I really just wanted to be able to move-in and immediately be able to unpack without having to do any major cleaning beforehand.
On the morning of the scheduled cleaning, they arrived on time. It included Barbara and two other women. They brought their own cleaning supplies and materials, as well as a step-stool. I previewed the place and went through my list of requests. Barbara agreed to them. Since the ceilings and some of the fixtures were high up, I supplied them with a taller step-stool to use. Since I still had some last minute packing to do before the movers arrived, I left the women there and told Barbara to call me when they were finished.
About 5 hours later, Barbara called me to indicate that they were finished with the cleaning. I drove over to meet and pay her. With the extended time, and charge for materials, my total bill was $305. Never having used a cleaning service before, I wasn't sure if this was a steal or a rip-off, but I paid her because I felt comfort in knowing I would be able to immediately unpack.
At first glance, when she walked me through the place, all appeared clean. However, as soon as the following day, while unpacking the kitchen, I soon realized that the inside of the cabinets were only cleaned two shelves up, and the cabinets closest to the floor, which run rather deep, were not cleaned completely to the back. There was a film on everything. I ended up having to clean every single cabinet before loading my dishes and food. It wasted so much time - time that I had already paid for. Then, as I further unpacked and began wiping down some built in wooden shelves in both the kitchen and the living room, again I discovered a film so thick that there would have been absolutely no way that they had been cleaned initially. The same occurred with the wooden window sills and frames as I prepped them for decorating for Christmas. Again, I discovered dirt that appeared like film from cigarette smoke. Since I do not smoke, I can assume the previous tenant did.
In hindsight, I don't think I did a good enough check on their cleaning as I really thought I could take their word. Keeping in mind that there was no furniture in the place because we had yet to move in, I just don't understand what they were doing there for 5 hours. Oh, and I also learned that Barbara doesn't do any of the cleaning, so she just hung around for 5 hours and watched her employees "clean."
I would NOT recommend this company to come and clean for you unless you plan to be in the house to watch them physically clean. I honestly believe that I was taken advantage of and that the "cleaning" they did was minimal.
