My very biggest thing about a staying away from home is, is this place clean? YES. The Colony building room with two queen beds was very clean, and recently updated. Shout out to housekeeping here! The room had a sink, microwave, coffee maker, iron, ironing board, blow dryer and large, clean shower. Aside from a pleasing room, the resort itself was clean and offered a lot. We didn't get to do everything because we were there for an off-site wedding. We shopped a little, I bought a card for our friends, and we really enjoyed The Thistle restaurant (get that cheeseburger). It's not far from Traverse City or a casino if you feel like doing something somewhere else for a day. Truly, this is a nice place. I'd like to go back for a weekend just for us. read more

What an awesome all-in-one resort! Cute cottages, great amenities, great stores, super friendly staff and great service (except Thistle pub which has slow service and bad food) and close to Grand Rapids! Beth the yoga instructor is fantastic and I love that the gym, pool and fitness classes in addition to admission to Michigan Legacy park is included with hotel bookings. Get ski lift tickets online in advance for great discounts, especially during less busy weekdays. Husband and I loved this quick weekday getaway, super relaxing while adventurous and exhilarating. Where to even begin? Let's start with the first night arriving to our condo, and excited to look around and finding bugs and hair on the bedding. Immediately called the front desk and had them come to change the bedding. Came back from dinner at a restaurant there, and went to open up the couch for the pullout bed. Found food and hair and dirt all over it and the mattress. I used the dusty vacuum I found in a closet to clean it myself. Upstairs, there is a skylight which is bright as heck at 5am. That wasn't advertised on their website The stairs going up to the upstairs are treacherous, we all tripped going down them! Then, we all took showers (5 of us) and had cold water. My kids cried during their freezing showers. The next day, same thing again, so we told the front desk again (in person this time) and they sent a maintenance guy at 11pm. He discovered the hot water was set to the lowest temp and said hope it helps. Well, it didn't, cold showers again the next day. Everything is old, dirty and needs updating. The kitchen sink sprays water all over, the beds are uncomfortable, and the upstairs is hot as heck and can't be controlled. For what we paid, you're better off going somewhere else nicer and newer with better service. After voicing our complaints, the manager Emily accused my mother of lying saying they have no record of anything we said. The man prior who she spoke with happened to know exactly what I said to the maintenance man, but yet they have no record of us telling them any of this. What a joke. Shame on you! I wish I could give 0 stars, Emily, shame on you. My little girls cried during their freezing cold showers. How dare you accuse us of lying! read more

Oh my goodness! The fall chairlift ride was one of the best things we did all year. We came here the second weekend of October and the fall colors were absolutely spectacular. The chairlift ride was only $7/person and at the top they had live music and a cash bar. We took our time at the top of the hill checking out the trees from different ski hills and even saw some baby deer. We are definitely going to check this place out in the winter time when we try skiing for the first time! read more

My husband and I visited in late September for our good friends' wedding, and we experienced such amazing customer service! Chad (and whoever was working at the front desk that Friday night 9/24) were extremely helpful, and when our A/C and thermostat wouldn't work in our hotel room, they upgraded us to one of the houses at the top of the resort due to limited capacity, but free of charge! These folks went out of their way to ensure we had a comfortable stay, so we highly recommend! Can't wait to go back in the winter! read more

This review is for the summertime alpine slide. Super lame. Even with thin crowds (1 person every 8 lifts), it took 30-40 minutes to do one run because they don't manage the lines efficiently. In addition, the fun factor is very low because the carts are sllllooooooow. People regularly had to be pushed to the finish line by a staffer. And last but not least, they close daily from 3-4pm for a break. read more

We stopped here for a half day of skiing later in the winter. It's a smaller ski area than that in which we normally ski but it was super convenient from the place we were visiting and friends in the area highly recommended it. We were pleasantly surprised by the cost (relative to what we have paid in other places), the customer service (lift tickets, ski rental [we bring our own boots]), and lift lines (the parking lot was not full so I am guessing it can get a lot more crowded). The runs were not long but neither were the lift lines. The slopes were well groomed. The food in the cafeteria was pretty good and reasonably priced. Overall a good experience. We will be back in the area again to visit so I am sure that we will be back to this resort in the future. read more

Family vacation for 3 families- 11 people total. We stayed in 2 Wintergreen condos. This was our 2nd time coming- we were excited to return this year, but sadly it was one thing after another and we won't be returning. Due to COVID, they are not cleaning the rooms daily. The charge is the same, and when we called for clean towels and empty trash bags, the service was rude. We even walked our own trash to the hopper. The rooms looked really run down this year, mold on the trim in the bathrooms and lots of chipped paint. The process for scheduling activities was tedious, and most of the events we scheduled were entered incorrectly by staff and two of them got double booked by staff and had to be canceled with no apology or attempts at service recovery. Most of the events stopped at 6pm and there were no evening activities planned so it was as if they were forcing you to eat dinner at their restaurants. The store closed. The restaurants were pricey and didn't have great options for family meals. Breakfast buffet was great- but is only offered on weekends. I feel that it doesn't even get dark until 10ish, so why close the pool and concession stand so early? Why no evening activities for families?The pool was nice and warm. Not too crowded. The prices for activities was too much for what you got. We booked the rope course in the hour block, and were only allowed 2 runs- completing it in 20m. So why book for an hour if you aren't allowed to use the full hour. The staff actually working the activities- the rock wall, ropes course, pool attendants, and alpine slide were fun and friendly. The staff inside at the alpine slide were not friendly at all, and made several errors without apology for the errors, or attempts to improve the service. I reached out to the front desk with our concerns asking to speak with some one to see if we could improve the trip, but no one responded before we checked out. My husband and I both have customer service backgrounds, and small gestures could have saved this vacation for us, but none were offered. Disappointed. And unfortunately, we won't be returning. read more

I've gone to the Crystal Resort Spa several times and am always impressed at what a wonderfully relaxing experience it is. They do a great job ensuring you feel welcome. There are many free amenities that come with your service, like free shower supplies and lotions, a steam sauna and IR sauna. They also have a hot tub and relaxation room with cucumber water and snacks. You could easily spend a day relaxing there. I have had massages and the therapists are very responsive to requests. I had a specific low back pain and the therapist was great at focusing on that area. I've also had two facials and I appreciated getter a little extra treatment for middle aged skin just because the esthetician felt I needed it. I feel like the prices are reasonable for the service and overall experience at the spa. I'm looking forward to my next visit. read more

We made a late decision to head up north for some skiing. Have to remember that Holiday weekends are always a busy time for them. First we called for reservation and the girl on the phone said they might have a cancellation coming, if not they could work out something on a bigger room. We stopped in to check things out and the women at the desk told us everything is gone and the only thing left was $800 per night. She was almost rude. So we thought we should call again and see if the other girl we talked to was available. And sure enough she was! Found us a small condo that was just great to stay in and even helped us order our lift tickets too. We did have to wait until 5pm to get into our condo. That seemed to be normal for around there. Hint - Make a reservation if you want to eat at the restaurants at the lodge. The food there is wonderful! Hint - Try to go during the week. read more

My family really enjoys skiing at Crystal Mountain. It's not too far away and the setup at the resort is quite convenient, with easy access to rooms/cabins, parking, lifts, stores and other amenities. I can't say it is the most up-to-date or perfect resort I've been to, but it's very nice for the money. The cons: Some of the accommodations/rooms are quite dated with old appliances and heating/cooling systems. The restaurants all seemed to be plagued by a poor waitstaff-to-customer ratio and so the service can often be slow. I also noted that their staff is slow to clean the rooms (our room was not cleaned until about 5:00 pm, despite a cleaning cart being parked across from our room since about 10:00 am. The pros: The check-in process was easy and seamless. The slopes are well-maintained and well-groomed. The staff tends to be quite helpful and friendly, as a whole. The prices are reasonable in comparison to similar resorts. The food options are actually quite good for this level of resort and the breakfast at the Wild Tomato is way better and more expansive than one would expect (large selection of fresh items, healthy options, salmon, varied meat and pastry options as well as a manned, fresh omelet/waffle station.) Our dinner at the Thistle was marked by very good food, and the service was only a bit slow. The fitness center was well-maintained and had a broad range of equipment, including a great selection of free weights (it annoys me when 'fitness centers' only offer a few treadmills and a small selection of machines.) The shops have quite a bit to offer and there are many activities to participate in other than skiing, such as fat tire cycling, horse-drawn rides, snowmobiling and laser tag. All in all, a great resort for the money and our kids request to return every year. read more

We went to Crystal mountain for the Valentine weekend, Thursday to Sunday. We rented one of the Pinehurst studios which can accommodate 2 people. This resort is quite big and they have whole variety of different sizes of buildings. The check in was fast and the people are very nice up there. You can really feel welcomed by the staff. If you are a guest you get a pass for gym, pool and outside spa. We have only used gym and pool (it has hot tub inside as well), however we walked to see how outside hot tub looks--you need to check in with the pass and they have changing rooms right there. The room was nice, a little bit of a rustic style, definitely met our expectations. The most important thing it had a jacuzzi bathtub in the bathroom. When it comes to the slopes Crystal Mountain has wide variety of runs and you can also ski on the other side of a mountain and there is quite a lot of glades to have fun through the forest. There are four chair lifts but only 3 were open as it were not that many people to run all of them I guess.We were lucky because they got pounded with fresh snow for couple of days so there was no need for snow making. The runs are not super long but tho whole mountain gives you enough to have fun no matter if you are a beginner or intermediate skier. There are couple option to eat: 1. Cafeteria downstairs where you take the tray and can load prepared food and drinks with you-can`t say much as we did not use it. 2. Downstairs there is Wild Tomato for breakfast which is pretty decent but not great. Also on the same level there is a place where you can order pizza (very tasty), subs, wings, etc. 3. Down the road there is Thistle Pub where you sit and order A La Carte. We had some hamburgers and for one dinner we took duck breasts. Well made and hit the spot :) 4. Bar--drinks, beer and live music on weekends, best rated. The resort has very nice Spa for which you get $50 credit as a guest but I advice you get an appt before hand. We tried schedule an appt but they were completely booked already. The whole resort is very modern and it gives you a little bit touch of Colorado. They are expending the place for the future with new accommodations, restaurant and roof top terrace. I recommend that place for skiing in Michigan. By the way it is located roughly 45 minutes away from Traverse City so you can jump to the car and have fun there. read more

Our family has enjoyed several winters of skiing at Crystal where most us learned to ski as kids. We love the condo rentals and the closeness of proximity to the mountain. We were even more pleasantly surprised to find out the extensive activities (mountain biking, golf, mountain slides, water park, hiking, restaurants etc.) in the summer. We will most definitely return during all seasons - a fantastic getaway for our family and extended family with something to do for everyone! read more

We were SOOO happy today with the customer service we received when we visited Crystal Mountain for the horse carriage rides! We had a reservation at 2 pm and were wandering around the resort in search of hot cocoa for our daughter and ourselves to warm up. We first tried to stop at the little golf cart setup by the fall activities but she had already closed and told us there was no way of heating up hot chocolate because the hot water heater wasn't working or something, and she was closing early because of the rain. So another employee recommended the coffee bar inside the resort (bru bar maybe?), but they were also closed. Next we checked the little marketplace but they only had coffee. So as we were feeling discouraged about everything being closed, we went back to the horse carriage checkin and were conversing with the employees working there, Alyssa and Jake Maui, about how there weren't any options available nearby. Before the carriage ride took off, Jake hopped in a van and drove across the resort and brought us a couple hot cocoas to take on the carriage ride with us so we could stay warmer and make our daughter happy! We were so impressed with how friendly they were and their eagerness to help us out!! When we tried to tip them, they refused and just thanked us for being there. These employees are shining examples of what customer service should look like and what it really means to go "above and beyond" for guests! Drove an hour to take the chair lift to see the fall colors at Crystal. Said they quit selling tickets at 5:30 online as it's open 4-6. We get there at 5:10 and they stopped selling tickets already. Severely annoyed along with several others. Piss poor management!! Won't go back to this place again for golfing, skiing, and for sure not to see the fall colors! read more

I love Crystal Mountain! We stayed in a 2BR, 2 Bath condo in the Kinlochen building. Spacious and clean. Quiet. We can ski in and ski out. Lockers were provided to store our rentals. The staff everywhere you turn are so nice and helpful - from rentals to check in to the chair lift operators. Dining - The food from Little Betsie's Bistro is good. We had pizza, wings, and breadsticks - quite good. The next night we ordered subs from the same place - really good as well. And they deliver! We also ate lunch at the restaurant downstairs - Thistle Pub & Grill - excellent. Sirloin chili was yum, the Thistle Burger and Pub Tenders - must try. Service was excellent! All in all - a great getaway from the "exciting" winter season in Michigan. read more

We love Crystal Mountain! We have been vacationing here for several years. It is a perfect, relaxing resort in beautiful rural northern Michigan, with close proximity to Frankfort and Traverse City. Our kids love the pool area, there is so much for them to do there. We had a beautiful room and enjoyed checking out the grounds and beautiful flowers. This is for spa and lodging only. Oh my goodness, I cannot believe there is this cool little ski community in the middle of absolutely nowhere! I booked a spa package for my sister and off we went. 3 1/2 hours later we pull in and there are little cottages, some really good ski hills, a lodge, and a bunch of other buildings with restaurants and other amenities. We checked into our room and it contained a kitchen and fireplace! How charming! The next day was spent at the spa...and I mean all day. I've never been in terri cloth from 9:30am-6:00pm before and it felt great. We each got 2 spa services, read books in their meditation lounge, went into their private hot tub, sauna, and steam room. They had cucumber/mint water for us all day, and everything there was catered to making you relax. From the music to the fireplaces to the dim lighting. Even the staff spoke quietly. It was pure heaven and probably the best spa I've ever been too. We didn't even go skiing in this ski resort but we didn't feel like we missed anything. We'll be back for sure to do a little bit of everything. read more

This is one of our favorite Michigan ski resorts. I feel like it has the most fun runs, where we find ourselves saying, "Let's do that one again!" My husband can do every run here quite well, whereas I'm queen of the blues. I find the greens to be very easy and slow, perfect for beginners and those that like to cruise. There are plenty of greens, blues, and blacks--sure to please everyone! The slopeside bar is a lot of fun. It has a great view, good beer selection, and awesome sirloin chili. The resort has several dining options. We just ate at the cafeteria for the first time and got burritos from the Mexican bar. They were kind of like burritos I would get from Qdoba or Chipotle and were reasonably priced. Their lodging accommodations are top-notch. They are spacious, clean and fresh, and well-appointed. Their guest service is unbelievably friendly and welcoming. They're not the most reasonable, but you are getting what you pay for and staying here is a real treat. I don't love that there is only one outdoor hot tub and indoor pool for the entire resort and isn't connected to any lodging. Maybe that's not a big deal in the summer, but in the winter--whoa that's a cold walk back to your room. The phallic-shaped hot tub doesn't allow alcohol. While family-friendly, it's kind of a bummer. They have a large number of activities for those that don't downhill ski or golf. It's like they have a personal mission to make sure everyone in your group has a fun time. Crystal Mountain is a classy, fun resort. You will have a great time here! read more

Reserved a condo on mountaintop drive. Here they asked how many people are staying and they will accommodate. They told us our unit will sleep 6-8. Big mistake. Dont ever let someone who dose the give a darn be in charge of your vacation. We get to the Condo and they have a long bed and a king bed. It's two bedrooms so wife and I get the king and one of my teenagers get the queeen. What to do with the others. Oh wait there is a Murphy bed so we can use that for another kid and what about the last teenager? I know they have a pull out sofa bed!! Worst bed in history as are all pull out sofas. Also very time we used the oven it burns stuff. 3 times we tried and three times we threw away food and do t use the toaster, the fire alarm will go off and it wasn't even smoking. Again, when you have someone that doesn't have a vested interest in your stay they just don't care. I get it. Human nature . So ultimately my bad for trusting someone. Else it also there bad for selling crap they wouldn't put there own family in. We stayed on top of the mountain on mountain top drive unit 708. So if you ever stay here don't stay in unit 708. There are other units that other relatives stayed in up here that are much nicer and have a great selection of multiple beds. Just not unit 708. Also for the winter I'm sure this place is awesome but for the summer it's like someone said "maybe we should it in a couple pools, lame sports activities and not much to do and rent it out to suckers. They will come." Well we did. Stay away!!! read more

Came to Crystal Mountain resorts with me and my 29 best college friends. Yup-not a typo- 30 of us!!! We ended up renting 3 giant townhomes on the top of the mountain, all next to each other. (We did indeed book early so take note of that). The townhomes were UH.MAY..ZING! Beautiful 3 story cottage with a full kitchen, 2 full bedrooms, 2 sitting areas, a mudroom and 3 porches. Did I also mention the oversized jacuzzi and flip-switch fireplace? As a group that grew up together partying in budget hotels (obviously college)- we were all feeling like ballers actually being able to stay some place nice. Having a job definitely brings its bonuses! The place supplied all we needed and we brought a ton of food to cook in our brief 3-day stay. The skiing was top-notch too. Everyone was decently nice at the ski rental checkpoint and all lift attendants were as sweet and patient as can be. The rental equipment itself was really high-quality too! The slopes were well-maintained and, even despite the 15-inch snowstorm, the team worked hard to minimize the lift delays. Ski lodge was a ton of fun and we had a blast partying to the Mardi Gras themed bash on the slopes all day Saturday. I had such a good time that I will most definitely be back next year and recommend this resort to anyone looking for a fun ski weekend! read more

Everything exceeded expectations! We stayed in a friend's house on the Crystal Mountain resort. It was about a 6-8 minute drive to the slopes and spa. We went for a long weekend and our group split up so half could ski/snowboard and the other half enjoyed a full day at the spa. Crystal Spa called my name. I signed up for the Winter Warm Up massage with Tami and it was SPECTACULAR. Tami did an amazing job and I felt very informed from the moment we got to the spa. We were showed around, received a locker(electronic code), slippers, and a very nice robe. A lot of the spa services grant you full access to the spa for the entire day (they close at 8pm). We spent time in the sauna, steam room, and outdoor hot tub. There is a relaxing room with 5 different types of tea and all different kinds of small snacks. The customer service was really astounding. I will definitely come back to the spa. Pricing was reasonable as well. We ate at the Thistle Pub & Grill on Friday night. The hostess was pretty bad.. She was rude on the phone and had us waiting for 15 minutes while we watched 3 tables that could fit our group free up but no one came to bus them. The FOOD was amazing, and our server, Eric was very helpful. Everything was 5 stars minus the hostess. I can't wait to try out Crystal Mountain in the summer. a 40 minute drive gets you to 10+ wineries in the area and they are SO reasonably priced! read more

My new wife and I decided to come here as a sort of mini honeymoon after a hectic week of final preparation for our destination wedding. We got an amazing deal as our stay was during a non peak season. When we arrived, checking in was very simple and informative. However, when we got to the room, we found that were given a room different than what was agreed upon dieting the reservation process. The staff was quick to correct the issue and gave us an upgraded room at no additional charge. The only restaurant open at the resort was never busy, but the food was really good. Nothing spectacular, but flavorful and cooked well. The Spa, on the other hand, should be a destination for all guests. We had a couples massage that wad amazing. We left completely relaxed and stress free after a very lengthy massage and aromatic bath. The facilities at their Spa are top notch and they go out of their way to cater to your needs. Again, we'd like to go back sometime during a peak season to see all they have to offer as the services were slimmed down during our stay. Definitely worth the stay at any point though. read more

Thankfully the weather was perfect this past weekend at Crystal Mountain Resort. It's a perfect place for children to enjoy the fall weather. There are a bunch of activities and mostly, you can be outdoors constantly. There is anearby town called Frankfort which is not more than 30 minutes away, and it's so charming, with light houses, restaurants, etc. This resort may be too overwhelming during high season, but for the peak 2 peak race, it was just perfect. My partner and I have been here twice to ski and stay during UM's winter break. Both times it worked out perfectly. the season was just coming to an end, but it was starting to warm up and the sun was shining. The people at the resort are really friendly and because we were there during the week, we barely had to share the slopes at all. Also because it was during the week, we got a bogo special. For 3 nights and 4 days, we paid about $350 with three full days of skiing for both of us. We could have done it a little cheaper, but stayed at the suites to be a little closer to the slopes. We stayed at a suite in the Inn, and I thought it was really nice, although a little small. It had a large hottub in the room with plenty of room for two, two tvs, which was such a treat because we don't have a tv in the bedroom at home, a king-size bed, and a small fridge, micro and toaster. We had so much time to relax and were able to do it on the cheap by bringing some breakfast and lunch foods for the few days we were there. The only time we really spent money was at Thistle pub. We had such a nice meal. My partner had a steak slathered in all sorts of blue-cheese, mushrooms, bacon. He said it was delicious, but a little much. I had some turkey tenderloin with all sorts of unique sides--butternut risotto, pickled beets and cabbage (i think), cranberry dressing of some sort. The pickled vegetables were great. I don't have them all that often and they did a really nice job balancing the veggies with the vinegar. It was not overpowering at all. It was a bit of a pricy meal, but of good quality and with great service. It wasn't any pricier than you would have gotten at a nicer restaurant anywhere. They don't seem to bilk you because you are at the resort, even though they probably could. read more

Came here in the off season, and was surprised at how much there was to do. Alpine coaster, ropes course, and pool are definite must-see's. Staff is exceptionally friendly and everything is reasonably clean. Stayed in a hotel room, which had some of the oddest decor and layout I've ever experienced. Some mold in the bathroom, and dated decor and TV are the only reasons for knocking this down a couple pegs. Enjoyed two days of pre-Christmas skiing at Crystal Moutain. The snow was decent, but the majority of the expert terrain was not open yet. We stayed in the Crystal Colony Inn, which was newly renovated. The room was good and the cleaning staff was excellent and very friendly. We ate dinner both nights in the Thistle Pub and Grill. The food was not bad and the waitstaff both evenings were accommodating to our dining quirks. The only unusual situation was on Monday when we called the Thistle to make a reservation for three people for dinner. The person who took the call said they had no availability for a party that large until 8:30 pm. When our daughter decided to eat earlier with friends in the area, my wife and I went over to see if we could get a seat at the bar and have dinner. Upon arriving, we found the restaurant to be almost empty and were offered seats in any of the rooms. Not sure of the issue, but it was bizarre. read more

Such a drive but so worth it. This is where I learned to snowboard, and the tips and tricks I learned were well worth it. The boards were good quality rentals and easy to learn on from what I've seen at a few other places. Staff is friendly, looking back I acted like an idiot when I rented my board, but the guy was patient. He could have just let me have my way but he explained to me his way and made sure I would be able to ride comfortably and told me to come back if I was not happy. I was happy. The instructor was super helpful and patient as well and kept the class entertained. My parents also learned to ski, and the same goes for their instructor. If you want to learn, this is the place to do it. The mountain is one of the best that I've seen in the Midwest. There are so many trails to choose from with varying difficulty levels, and a terrain park. The lifts are quick, and it actually didn't get too crowded for a Saturday. The cabins were also spacious and comfortable. This place is worth every penny. read more

Painfully mediocre. Staff is friendly, yet aggressive. Nick, the evening server, was creepy to our family. Weak coffee. Spiders and insects with breakfast. Beautiful landscapes. Fun nature trails. Terrible beds. Wi-Fi has major problems: Open networks provide no security and expose all network traffic. If insecure Wi-Fi wasn't unprofessional enough, it's ridiculously slow and ultimately unstable. Absolutely laughable to consider having a business convention here. read more
