Mary truly is a gem. She's meticulous and friendly. There's parking in the back. She's cash only. She has mostly DND colors, but I've brought in my own OPI gel polish for her to use. I think Mary's true magic comes out in her fills. I had two nails where the polish came off and she filled around it like nothing happened. The picture of my nails doesn't do it justice. Mary is a wonderful person and a hard worker. She does an amazing job with your nails and is honest if she doesn't know how to do a certain design. I really like her, however, there is a need for better sanitation. I've personally witnessed her not changing out her gloves between customers. Because she stays so busy, it's one person after another, I can't tell to what extent everything is cleaned between clients. I know in part this is happening because she wants to see more clients. I was in the salon at the same time, and the description in that review does not match what happened. The nail technician and owner showed nothing but patience, professionalism, and kindness. At no point did they "blame" the customer. The client had chosen regular polish, which naturally takes time to fully dry, but repeatedly pressed on her nails before they were set--causing the dents herself--while insisting she had to leave for work. The staff even went so far as to offer to walk her to her car to prevent smudging them further. I've been coming to Mary for 4 months, and she always spends the extra time to get the shape and finish exactly how I like them. Her work is meticulous, and I leave happy every time. Mary sends me a text message the morning of my appointment to ask if I can come in at 10:45am instead of 11:00am. I texted her that I could try to get there as fast as I can because I had another appointment somewhere else. The first appointment ran late and it was raining cats and dogs, but I rushed out of there to get to Crystal Nails at exactly the appointment time I had booked one week in advance. When I got there they were barking orders at me to sit down, but I had to use the restroom. That's when she said I was 15 minutes late already! WTF! I'm not the confrontational type, but this rubbed me the wrong way. So, I reiterated what I had texted her and reminded her that my actual appointment time was exactly the time I got there and left! I was furious!!! The place is dingy and small. Did not get the clean and relaxing feeling, on top of the poor customer service. Taking my business elsewhere! One word to describe my 1st visit to Crystal Nails by Mary...AMAZING!! I had a pedicure ( her massage chair was absolutely the most comfortable chair, I didn't want to get out ). I then had a new set of acrylic nails put on. She recommended I try the coffin shape but I decided to go w/the Squoval shape and she shaped them to perfection. Apparently Mary runs the show here. I was a first timer here also a walk-in and got stuck with Romi. Romi kept making unnecessary comments about my nail width and complaining about having to use the wider tips for my set. Also, I asked for square shape and she kept insisting with unsolicited advice that I get coffin because "it's better for my finger structure". On top of everything the nail quality and shape didn't meet my expectations and within 6 days the acrylic was lifting. I payed ($60) for a short, squared, solid colored set that didn't last a week. I had a pedicure done too ($50) and I was so uncomfortable because of the fact that they don't use liners for the water tub. I was desperate to finish and get out of there! If I had not been limited with time before my vacation, I would've got up to leave before finishing. It's so upsetting how difficult it is to find a decent nail salon. I am visiting home and needed my nails done, and Mary graciously squeezed me in last minute! My nails look sooooo lovely. I got simple single color gel for $35, and for that price especially this is the nicest set I've ever gotten. Mary is personable and attentive and listened to exactly what I wanted with the shape of my nails and the thickness of the gel. I requested a design on one nail that she wasn't able to do, but she was persistent in her efforts and accommodating when I asked to remove it. It's a shame Yelp won't let me add photos to my review because my nude almond nails look great!! This woman comes into the shop dripping from the rain, and holds out her wet umbrella and sandals to Mary and seems to already be in a bad mood. She was asked to sit down in a chair to pick a color, which she ignored doing and continued to walk around with her wet shoes, getting water everywhere. I was excited to come here based on the high reviews but unfortunately I didn't have a great experience. The woman- (not sure if it was Crystal) didn't write down I was booked for both a gel manicure and a classic pedicure so she asked if I could come again tomorrow for my feet since this was an evening appointment and she needed to go home afterwards. I couldn't due to my schedule so she said she would only do toe nail polish- which I was fine with. Mistakes happen, and she was apologetic which I appreciated. Her technical skills were great- my toes came out really nice considering how fast she worked. After she was done with my pedicure she asked me to go to the mani section. I was about to slip on my sandals but she told me to walk barefoot on the floor to protect my nails. Mind you, this wasn't the cleanest salon. And even if it was, all of the salons I've been to provide temp foam sandals to slip on - even to walk 2 feet... Images of what were under peoples shoes that walked on that floor still makes me cringe. At that moment ironically I felt like my feet felt dirtier coming out of a nail salon :S The mani was going ok but I couldn't help but notice how dusty and dingy the area looked which didn't make me feel good about the tools being used on me. During my mani, another customer came in and I realized- this was why a full pedi couldn't be done for me. She started rushing my nails and when I pointed out air bubbles on my nail she was a bit rude and said she would fix it. I've been rushed before, but with everything that happened leading up to that moment, I thought I was pretty patient and deserved a bit better customer service. The nails thankfully came out well, and I think she gave me a discount on my pedi which I appreciated. With all these reasons, I'm not sure I'd come back. I'm glad my nails look great but the experience overall was subpar and hope they will tidy up the area.... If I ever do give it a second chance I'd make sure to avoid an evening appointment so the job isn't rushed. read more
