Hugo did an amazing job inspecting the home we almost got (he literally just saved us from buying a lemon of a house based on so many things the sellers tried to hide/dismiss). He asked us questions that we didn't even know we needed to ask to make sure renovations were to code. He also cared so much about safety and took the time to explain minor issues versus major, hazardous issues. You can tell how experienced he is within one minute of meeting him. So I've been in the house since April, and have had time to see if any problems came up which were not caught in the inspection report. I'm giving 3 stars despite the 5 star average from other users because: -first of all, they spent less than an hour inspecting the house (one inspector only). I unfortunately could not make it to the inspection (probably if I was there he would have spent longer answering questions etc, so maybe this is my fault). Still for the price, I would have preferred the one person to spend at least 2hours. -now here's the reason that I decided to write a review: just found out that the pool filter that I had is WAY too small for the pool. This was NOT mentioned in the inspection report. In fact, the reports mentions very few details about the pool. Based on the fact they have a relatively high charge for the pool inspection (at least $50), I would've liked them to have done a more thorough job The PDF report they send you is nice (much better than the big binder I got from the inspector the last time I bought a house) read more

Unlike others in the business, he pulls out an amazing array of hi tech equipment (drones, infrared sensors, thermal imaging etc) that make him stand out among his peers. We've hired Hugo for 3 inspections for pretty different buildings: two single-family homes and one commercial property. We were very satisfied with his work on each job. Hugo is extremely thorough and a great communicator. I'm the type who likes to understand everything and that's great because Hugo is the type who likes others to understand. They deserve 0 star. That 1 star belongs to the receptionist Candy. She was very nice and accommodating over the phone. The inspection took about an hour. Majority of the time the inspector was taking pictures. No high tech tools/instruments. The inspection was very BASIC and not thorough at all. You can learn more from Google. After we moved in. These were the issues: No proper drainage system in the back yard. It flooded with the rain this week. What a disaster, we just moved in 2 days. THIS IS A MAJOR DEFECT that they missed. Sprinkler system was also damaged. Heater doesn't work in one of the room. 3 broken window frames. Kitchen sliding door was missing the lock, couldn't close properly; door handles were also loose. Some Light bulbs were dead but didn't indicate in the report (we pointed those out during the inspection and requested to put in the report which it didn't...yet, when I spoke to the owner he blamed that it happened after the inspection) Good luck trying to talk to the owner. He's very defensive. He has excuses for everything. Right the way he blamed on the builder. No genius!!! Who doesn't know that it's the builder's fault but that's why we paid you $399.00 for the inspection and relied on your expertise. Then he went on and said that I should call the builder because under California's law the builder provided warranty of 10 years for the house. WHAT??? Where did you just get or make up that so call "law". He'd say anything to refuse that's not their fault. I'll end this reviews with some of the direct quotes from their blog, you be the judge: "...It means that no matter how good an inspector is, he will miss something."..."No home inspection guarantees that any home is free of defect." (They have absolutely no pride in your company and the work that they do). ..."what is in the eyes of the client, a really big issue. It's not!!!" So lightly for you to put it that way. When you wrote these did you even consider how it would feel for a new home owner, a first time buyer, or someone's lifetime of savings to get their dream home and have so many problems due to your lacking of knowledge and detail. Of course, you don't because you've already taken the money and who cares what happened to someone else's home right? I would not work with or recommend this company. If you don't want to spend the extras $$$ and all the unnecessary headaches don't hire them. read more

I had a good experience with these home inspectors. They were very good communicating their findings on the spot. I don't know that I'd consider them super great at discovering everything, and would rate their thoroughness and inspection ability about the same as most other good home inspectors. Update: A year later, I finally used the AC in my home, only to discover that it does not stay cool. The inspectors check was apparently insufficient. Now I'll have to find out how much this is going to cost me. I should have mentioned this in my original review. Their inspection is rather superficial, and may sound great to someone not very experienced with the more technical aspects of a home inspection. For example, they'll tell you general things like the microwave is working, these outlets are not grounded, etc. That's very basic stuff. The more important stuff has to do with structural integrity, foundation, deep plumbing, sewage, etc. They are not your guys for a truly good, high end inspection. Generally, this will not matter because chances are, there's no major problem with the house. But in those times when there are problems, it's going to bite you. read more

Hugo is amazing! I was originally going to go with my broker's inspector, who ended up not being flexible with his scheduling. When another agent suggested Hugo, he was not only flexible but CHEAPER than the other 3 companies I called. In addition, he is super friendly, knowledgeable, and takes care of us as the client. He makes it known that he does NOT work for a realtor (even though he is a realtor himself) to give the buyer the most informative report as possible. He is neither there to persuade or dissuade but to help us make the decision that is best for us. He also gave us home owner tidbits that were good to know for any house we decide to purchase. I found CSI on google & yelp while browsing for home inspectors. The reviews on yelp were all 5 stars so I decided to give them a call to get a quote. Just by speaking with Hugo on the phone, I already knew that I was in good hands. He was very informative and mentioned that his brother, Aris, would be doing the inspection the next day. Aris arrived ahead of time and was very professional. He had all his high- tech stuff and his iPad ready to go. (Not even I have an ipad! lol) He took photos of the exterior, interior, attic, and even under the house. He tested all outlets, appliances, doors, faucets, alarms...everything!! Aris inspected the home as if it were a home that he was buying for himself. It is good to see a company care for your well-being. Gosh, Aris was very thorough in his work. He's also super cool and funny! He paid attention to detail and he taught us so much about how to treat problems and/or how to prevent problems from arising. CSI is great! Hugo answered my call Thursday afternoon and squeezed me in for an inspection appointment Saturday morning - earlier than they usually start! The team arrived on time - Hugo and Aris - got their tools and went to work. But along the way, both took the time to show and explain the various items they've inspected and suggested fixes along the way. Our 900 sqft home inspection took about 2.5 hours. These guys use high-tech tools for inspection, photographed every inspected item, and used an iPad to note down their findings. They went up, down, and side to side in the home and found items that needed immediate attention - if not for their attention to detail and professional thoroughness these items would have been overlooked very easily. They email you a report the following day, which is very intuitive. They layout their findings and have the photographs as reference. My fiance and I are looking to buy our first home and we were looking at a quaint home in Upland that was built in 1912. Obviously we had our concerns about moving into a home that is this old, so it was necessary to have a thorough inspection. After an extensive search for quality home inspectors, I was actually given a recommendation for CSI from another home inspection group. I called CSI and a very nice and professional receptionist named Candy answered the phone and scheduled a meeting time that worked with my crazy schedule. The inspector's name was Hugo. He arrived early and started early. He also didn't mind that I was hovering over him for the whole experience. To him, my presence was another opportunity to educate a client on how to protect themselves. Hugo came well equipped with a thermal imaging camera to check the air conditioning, the heater, and other areas potentially water damaged in the past. He also had moisture detectors to tell if there were current moisture problems. When all was said and done, he discovered many problems that would have bankrupted me and my future wife, or forced us to live in an unsafe home with the potential to fall over with any seismic activity. Oh, and did I mention that it had rats living in the roof, there was a gas leak in the back, the wiring was a fire hazard, and the entire back addition was not attached to the foundation! CSI completed my pre purchase inspection on 6/27 and delivered the report on 6/28. The two inspectors Joshua and Brandon did a great job of walking me through the property and explaining each item they found, what code was and what repairs should be made, in addition they pointed out shutoffs for each utility in the event of an emergency. The inspectors are well trained and know what to look for. Chances are if you are like me you look at a new home with a bit of a blind eye because you are excited about the property you are about to purchase. This impartial view will make sure you are getting a clear picture of what you are about to invest in. They will serve you well. Finally let me say that I am in the construction industry and had a colleague also in the industry with me during the inspection. I never clued them into this as I wanted them to hear what they had to say. As someone who does commercial construction almost everyday I found their insight very useful and will be using the report they sent me to build a materials list for my trip to the hardware store very soon. We used Hugo 4-5 times to inspect 4-5 houses in different area. I've used a few other inspection service when Hugo was not available. God, you can tell the difference between Hugo and other inspectors immediately after the inspection begins. Hugo always brings some high tech gears, which helps you understand what the deep problems are. Each inspection report hugo delivered was so detail oriented and each inspection report was very honest that we never trust any other inspector. Ask him for a sample report, because the final report you got is very much like the sample report. I do not know why Hogo can find so many things we never notice, but Hugo says he was a former detective/sheriff, which helps him identify issues. The only thing I want to "complain" is hugo's availability. You usually needs to reserve a spot 2-3 weeks before the inspection day. He was totally booked up in April May, when the real estate peak season begins. read more

Here's the deal - Aris is really THAT good. If you are a home buyer in escrow, call CSI now. If you are a seller or a seller's realtor, you should be scared of an inspection from CSI. They find everything and they use heat sensor infra-red equipment to inspect wall interiors, gas, mold, etc. Aris was very professional an explained everything. I had no idea that carbon monoxide detectors should ideally be placed on the top level of the house because carbon monoxide weighs less than air and rises to the top. Even our experienced realtor learned something new. did they go overboard with their inspections and recommendations? Yes. You don't need to worry about everything that they recommend, they are just militant with detail and it's up to you how you interpret their recommendations. We got the yelp discount definitely ask for it. Also our seller had turned off the gas so we had to have Aris come back out to inspect gas appliances and we even had him inspect the termite inspection report. CSI did not do the termite report but they were glad to review it thoroughly and check all the areas where problems had been found/fixed. Nominal price for the second inspection: $75. No big deal. These guys are excellent and as Aris will tell you he is a 'stickler' for safety. Glad to hear it. Seriously, call them now. Stop looking at other reviews for home inspectors on yelp. Long overdue review for CSI which Hugo did the inspection on the house we bought in Yorba Linda last October. Hugo went above and beyond, very thorough inspection (even using a "drone" to inspect the rooftop) - so much so that the (previous) homeowner's broker (agent) was rather upset since she believed what Hugo found as dysfunctional and damaged apparatus, appliance, etc. was outside the "normal" inspection's parameter. I had CSI come out to inspect a older home in Newport Beach last week, and they did a fantastic job. Aris spent about 4 hours looking around the property and walking me thru each section of the house as he finished up and moved to the next section. He was extremely professional and knowledgeable, not only identifying all of the issues, but where things could be repaired or where they needed to be replaced outright. He also pointed out were issues didn't necessarily need to be fixed, but would benefit from safety improvements or modernization. All in all, I would highly recommend this service (and specifically Aris) to anyone looking for an inspection. I felt that the price was very reasonable given the job he did. read more

When we bought our house last summer - our first house - my mom said "A good home inspector is gold. Make sure you ask your agent for a person they know and trust." Our agent had Hugo do our inspection before purchase and it was as thorough as you could get: a spectacular level of detail, including photos and descriptions in the report you receive at the end, and a rating of "here's how important/dire this is." And I'm reminded of why I needed to do this review because today Hugo saved us a world of drama and heartache when an electrician, coming over to fix an outlet that was broken, said, "Your entire electrical panel isn't up to code: you need a new panel and you can't have these things on the same circuits." It sounded dire and it sounded expensive and we freaked out. We called our agent who said "You know, Hugo's report was an A+ on the electric and it was all brand new... you should call him and see what he thinks." Hugo was able to look at his report and the pics of the panel and say "There's nothing wrong with your electric: it's brand new, they did an amazing job on it, your electrical couldn't possibly be any more safe: that's an unscrupulous electrician trying to upsell you on something you don't need. You're fine." And this is why you hire a home inspector who's honest, has a good reputation, and knows what he's doing. I'm breathing a massive sigh of relief today because of it.
