Me, the woman in charge, & her coworker were the only ones in the building. Verrrry quiet & all attention was directed to me. Paperwork took most of the time and it was explained very thoroughly before signing. Seeing as this was just my initial appointment, they only did a blood collection of 6-7 vials to test for diseases before I am permitted to donate white blood cells once cleared. The blood collection was taken in a very cushy chair where you're almost laying down. Afterwards, they gave me water and a snack and made sure I was ok. In the end, I was given $25 for the initial appointment. When you do an actual white blood cell donation (which I was told can take up to 3-4 hours!) the payout is a lot more. They also told me they have things like iPads with Netflix, magazines, etc to help keep you occupied during that time. They also gave me a free shirt! They told me that they had been up and running for 2 years but just started accepting clients within the last year. Anywho, the employee whom worked with me was super down to earth and great to talk to & answered all my questions. I'm currently waiting to hear back regarding white blood cell studies now so that I can start donating :) seems like a wonderful facility doing great work!

Targeting…read morelate morning between the morning and lunch rushes means there isn't much in the way of a wait -- I'm typically in and out of the lab in 15 minutes. Phlebotomists are great: I've had Jennifer and Dawn, and both were friendly, professional, and got 3+ vials without pain. Front desk staff are hit or miss -- I've gotten some curt responses, especially over the phone, but mostly friendly ones. It's not a huge deal, but I have a similar job and have always made an effort to be pleasant even when I'm losing my mind under stress. The clinic itself is clean, comfortable, and I'm glad to see they are following social distancing techniques for the waiting room (blocking off chairs, no more checking in via communal touchscreen). I was surprised they didn't separate out used pens but otherwise I didn't feel like my safety was endangered by my visit. One note about this clinic: when my labs are faxed in physically, they don't ever seem to get to the clinic. I don't know if this is an incoming or outgoing fax issue, but my recommendation is to always call ahead and double-check to see if your labs are there before you leave the house.

John has been training Austinites for 12 years and he keeps it fresh, funny, and smart (and most importantly, memorable!) every minute of those 6 1/2 hours. I was exhausted when I showed up this morning (we're in the thick of SXSW atm) and it seemed unlikely that anything he might do or say would stick, but I am feeling 100% Certified and Ready. Minus one critically important star because the Red Cross is so disorganized and unprepared and frankly messy where its finances are concerned. When hurricane Harvey hit, I was on the horn looking for ways to help with my Spanish, my blood, my time. Never got a call back. I waited for days. I called several numbers... even one that our Mayor Adler provided. NADA/zip/nothing/ZERO. Fed up, I sought CERT and CISM training elsewhere and finally crowned those incredibly useful hours with today's skills. Total: Fifty hours of emergency and disaster relief training! Bring it on. On second thought, don't you dare bring it on :) Thank you, John! You're a jewel in a box full of old potatoes. Sorry, Red Cross, but I'm calling it like it is.

I figure I better write this review before a year is up on it. This was not a plan visit but then…read moreagain what hospital visit is planned. I'm just gonna cover the highlights of what makes this good and bad in my opinion. First and foremost with any hospital ratings is the nurses. I've got to admit this ascension Seton has more outstanding; above average nurses. Like around 70%. Then about 15% our average and 10% are below average. Unfortunately, there are about 5% that are in the category of why are they even nurses if they hate people? I found these mostly to be the Night Shift people. Next step is the hospital beds, they have two types. I'm gonna call them the Chevy and the Cadillac. Needless to say they are both uncomfortable. The bar that gets them to move up and down so you could sit lay down have your legs up or also what sticks in your back the entire time making sleep impossible. The Chevy beds I have to admit did at least have convenient factors of a cell phone charger right in the framework so you didn't have to try and stretch it to the wall. It was also easier to make the bed go up and down, which is extremely helpful around meal times. It is a pain to get your food served on a tray that needs to slide under your bed, except it doesn't give you room to sit with the table in front of you. There were so many times when I had to eat almost laying down with just my neck above the food tray, not comfortable The temperature throughout the hospital it's always a bit chilly. I can't remember the reason for it but it's medical. One room they had me in. I was freezing and I like the cold. I asked for more blankets since most of the blankets they have are so thin. My favorite was they asked me if I wanted a heated blanket and what they do is they throw it in the dryer for about 15 minutes then bring it to you. So you have a short amount of time where your body can absorb that heat before it's all cold again. My main point being is that freezing room was freezing because the air conditioning was broken in it and it was probably about 62° until they fixed it. Now the most important factor the food. Most of the time they will hand you the menu items that you can order off of they don't tell you about the off menu items. Get to know the lady who brings around the menus and be real nice to her and she will tell you what off menu items that she can get for you. There were certain things I did, which I don't normally do. I told them I was allergic to pork because that pork was so overcooked. It was disgusting. Don't order extra vegetables. It basically is overcooked mush. And whatever you do, don't eat the eggs in the morning. They are the fake powder kind that you mix with water and fry up. Trust me it taste fake. Some of the favorites of the off menu items were the spinach, strawberry pecan salad and the grilled chicken sandwich. I don't know about anyone else, but I basically saw my doctor for approximately two minutes before I went in for surgery and that was it. You mostly deal with the nurses or the doctors assistants. During my time there, they were renovating the hospital because it was an older one. So if you were brought to the basement to have test done, you get to go by the new cafeteria being built, which was going to be huge. I don't want to say I wanna be here again but as a hospital, it was OK

They lost 2 of 3 payments and I have been trying for months to remedy this with zero help and even less action. It's as if the Billing Department is not quite sure how their own system works ? I have sent copies of the checks they deposited as well as Bank statements of the deducted checks they deposited. Only to be told they cannot locate the money or my account. I have provided every single detail they have requested more than once and still nothing. I unfortunately cannot do their job or due diligence for them and this is so very sad . I give up ‍
