I must say, I'm impressed. I had donated plasma off and on about 20 years ago, during my college days and in my early 20's when cash was tight and I needed a bit of extra income. I appreciated the flexibility (I could go anytime during their open hours) vs. the commitment that would be required with a part-time job. Recently, I decided to look into plasma donation again as a way to "do something" for others, and to get some extra spending money for an upcoming vacation. I did a quick Google search and I was excited to find that there is now a location in Bloomington. Upon arrival, I was immediately impressed. The location is large, well-lit and very clean (a bit different from what I remember from their St. Paul location so many years ago). The process is quite efficient, and you can donate in roughly 45 - 90 minutes (thought allow 2.5 - 3 hours for your first donation so that you can go through the sign-up and medical screening process). Also, for that first donation, be sure to bring 3 forms of identification (for me, I brought my driver's license, my social security card, and a piece of direct mail that had my name and address on it), and I think one of those IDs must be your social security card and another must be a state-issued photo ID. Also, if you have donated in the past under a different name, you'll need to bring proof of the name change (I needed to bring my marriage certificate). In terms of compensation, the payment incentives vary. But, currently, you are paid $50 for each of your first 5 donations, and you can donate up to 2 times in a 7-day period. You are compensated via a Visa debit card that is loaded after each donation. If you're looking for a great way to do something for others while also making money, this is a great option. I came in on Tuesday, February 18th, and was sitting in the lobby for almost an hour. Waiting to be called for my exam. Since I'm considered a returning, but new client. I tall man with red hair and a beard had come to the lobby and asked if somebody's car was in the alley, when in fact he was really wondering was somebody in my car while I was in the lobby on top of which he told me that I was to wait my turn? I didn't get appointments because they don't make appointments and he's very busy and he was very patronizing rude. And I will never go back there again. I'd rather go out of my way to go to another clinic. I do not understand what the point of having an appointment system on there Website is? I will never trust my healthcare to a place that treats their patients like that. That's absurd. There's no amount of money that would make me want to donate anything to a place like that. read more

I am a returning donor. The wait in line is 3 hours and then 45min to 1 hour to donate. At $45 per donation. Makes the wait less than minimum wage. If I worked today, I would have had to leave. $45 doesn't even fill up my gas tank in order to get here. read more

Regular hard working friendly staff. Sparkling clean facility and bathrooms. I try to make it up at least twice a month and if I don't its because I'm drinking too much coffee. Even though it's just usually about $44/donation; you have to keep in mind that you're helping someone live and maybe even save another life by taking an hour or two out of your day. Keep in mind, preparation is key here, drinking plenty of water the day before and the day of, as well as eating a full and balanced nutritious meal right before you come in is optimal. Make sure your hematocrit levels are below 54 before you come in and to ice your vein after each donation. Also this makes an easy way to get through a chapter or two of your current book you may be reading. read more

The first time is long understandably, but the second time there was computer errors so I checked in on my phone, I accidentally answered a question wrong. Their system didn't let me go in and edit, (seeing the last time the answer was NO) so I got kicked back around to the whole process all over, having to see the medical because of an error on the survey. Friendly staff, overall good experience besides this older gentleman with grey hair I assume is one of the managers. He does not have a name tag so I'm not sure exactly his title in this facility. I watched him berate one of the female workers in front of everyone over something small, and he got in the face of another person giving plasma over him having gum in his mouth. I can't believe how they promote bringing in a referral you get compensated. twice I brought in a referral. went in there in person with them they take down my name and come up with crazy reasons why they can't pay. As I sit out and wait the two and a half hours past what it takes for my donation And I would hate to receive any medications made from the plasma they take as there are donors using needles in the parking lot. i have given my plasma at the red cross with no issues at all. a world renowned company. i am o negative which is a high need type of blood. i spent over an hour at csl plasma. the lady who did my orientation was kind but i later found was a complete act. i know for a fact that a lot of avtice drug, iv users have come here and make money to support their habbit and are approved. she insisted on looking at my arms and i had a tiny bruise on my right arm. which i was unaware was even there. she wanted to know every piercing i ever had. even though closed. which i was straight forward with and answered. mind you this girl has neck tattoos and piercings everywhere. i told her i had a tat on my low back and she referred to it as a tramp stamp. and started shaking her head no at her fellow employees which her judgment if me and basically calling me a hoe. was causing me anger and knowing tht they were intentionally trying to harm me, annoy me and do everything they could to make sure my heart rate was raised above the point where they don't except donations. then after insulting me and angering me. another asian lady came in and said nothing but was staring me down and causing me a panic attack. just staring at me and not blinking. knowing this would cause anyone stress. regardless of the fact that my donation is to help people in critical care!!!! that my intentions are above good and right. i felt intimidated and knew that they even though my blood is needed and as are my platelets and that i foud out i can make money for this donation. i decided to come to csl. rather than the red cross i am disabled for mental and physical chronic pain and not yet getting disability. i deserve to be paid for my donation and not be discriminated upon by a horrible company whom i know for a fact pays meth heads and heroine addicts money for their platelets who's donation could kill somebody in need and who donates an is approved constantly..i am free of all std's haven't had any kind of sexual contact in over four years! they purposely made me made raising my heart rate. then i had to wait fifiteen more minutes to try to bring my hert rate down. which is easily medically explained by an anxiety diagnosis and easily explained by noticing that she insulted me an the placement of my tattoo. i grew up in a very sheltered christian home! i had no idea what a "tramp stamp" was and my "husband" who appearantly, loved me and who should've informed me of this when i got it. knew damn well what this.was called and never mentioned in to me! and even her reminding me of this and basically calling me a whore. then angering me. spending and wasting over an hour of my time when i am already broke and hard up and never thought i would be in such a position to get stuck with a needle for money. but left with no other financial options. knowing the red cross took me immediately but being completely screwed over by everyone and convincing myself that i deserve to get paid for my priceless donation. to know these women ganged up on me. that she was so unprofessional! intentionally harmed me. after i waited for 45 minutes and waiting and watching crackheads walking in and out and getting paid! i waited in line again. the rep didnt even acknowledge me in her seat and when she did. she grabbed the smallest cuff. pressed and made sure that cuff gave me the death grip! and the same asian lady sat and stared at me the entire time. giving me negative vibes. giving me dirty looks.there were 3 different women staring straight at me which would cause anyone anxiety! i really can't even afford food. i don't do drugs! i am not a whore and to be treated like trash. to be attacked purposely and to know they are a business who accepts active drug users and pays for their dirty platelets. but won't take a high need and prized blood type and an ideal patient. to not only reject me. but to bully me and deny me which i know was intentional is horrible. hurtful and wrong as heck! read more

I've been giving plasma for a couple months now and every time I go everyone is always so nice and helpful. Your first time does take some time but, they just want to make sure you are safe enough to donate not only for yourself but, for the people who receive the plasma. I'm there for 45 mins to 1 hour. Yes it's nice getting paid but, I would do this free cuz I'm saving people who really need it. I don't know about other plasma centers but, the one on Penn Ave is a fantastic place to go. I can't say enough about how clean the place is and how helpful everyone there are. If I could give more then 5 Stars I would !! Thanks for always making it a Great experience for me. Kim read more

SSSLLLOOOWWWW!!! Do not come to this location if you have something else to do that day. One staff just walked back and forth chatting with another staff member taking her time to sit down and process people (her job), while myself and 22 other people stood in line. I timed it and it took 40 minutes to get through 17 people just getting checked in with five people working. They should send some employees from the lake street location to show them how to manage a line of people. I will be avoiding this clinic if I can help it. read more

I went in for my second visit today with the little pass that's supposed to let you go to the front of the line. I showed the pass at the front desk and the receptionist told me to go to the kiosk and log in. I couldn't sign in because I was flagged for "interview". So I got in line and waited 20 minutes for the 3 people ahead of me to get through. When I got to the booth, they said I needed to see the nurse. So I waited 15 minutes for the nurse. She verified my identity, asked if I got sick then I was there the first time (no) and fiddled with the computer for 10 minutes, then said I could get back in line. I have no idea why I was had to see the nurse but ok. So back to the line I go. 10 minutes later I get called back to the booth only to be told I need to go to the kiosk and sign in but that I should come to the front of the line when I'm done. 63 questions later I'm back and a few minutes later, I'm back at the booth. More questions, blood test and weigh in and I'm told to wait again to see the nurse again. Another 10 minutes goes by. This time it's the other nurse. The one I nicknamed quaalude girl. So after another 5 minutes drags by, she looks at the bruises (both arms) from my first visit 2 days prior and says, "They can't stick you because your bruises are more than an inch and a half." A this point these folks have wasted an hour of my life for no reason. Does it really take an hour and 6 trained professionals to figure out they can't stick me? I was obviously going to bruise before I left from my first visit. A quick "If your bruise is more than an inch and a half on each arm, wait until the bruises are smaller to come back." would have prevented this whole shit show. At this point, I'm annoyed. I ask to speak to the manager. The employee (#7) who goes to get the manager comes back but doesn't tell me if the managers is coming or how long they will be. In fact, she doesn't speak to me at all. So I stand there marveling at the absolute lack of communication and wondering if I am going have to ask how long it will be before the manager will show up. At this point employee number 5 reappears, talks to employee #7 and says I can wait in room 8 and points vaguely to her left. So I go and find room 8 and wait. The manager eventually wanders in. I explain I am annoyed that it took an hour (now an hour and a half) and six people to tell me that the clearly visible (I'm in short sleeves) bruises from last time would prevent them from sticking me. I Sid that the employees I had interacted with didn't communicate effectively with me or seemingly with each other. I also mentioned that when there were the most people in line, two booths closed because the employees wanted to go to lunch before anyone else was available to take over their stations. The takeaway from my time with the head honcho was that he lets them work as slowly as they want because if they make a mistake he gets blamed. The man is a hostage to his employees and they are doing about as little as they can get away with. ZERO concern for the donors experience. NO recognition that they wasted my time. And that fact that this could have all been prevented but a quick mention that since I was obviously going to bruise, I would need to wait donate again until the bruises were under a specified size. In short, he took no responsibility for anything and will do nothing to improve the donor experience. Everyone loses but he avoids confrontation and change so that's ok. read more

Two months ago, my bowl broke. Rather, their bowl was faulty and caused me to be deferred for two months. Yesterday, i went back for the first time and here's how it went. I went thru the protein testing and such and was told I had to see a nurse, due to my deferral resulting from a faulty blood bowl. I waited forty minutes for a woman to call me in to a room and input two answers into the computer. I then donated. When my machine turned off, i sat for 20 minutes waiting to be unhooked. I then went to check my balance and the machine said inactive card. The same woman I waited forty minutes for and who flippantly told me "it's called clairol honey", because I haven't dyed my hair lately and my grays are out, issued me a new card. Balance zero. So I called. I was told that not the $30 I had agreed to would be loaded, but $24 due to a $6 charge from google play, tho I have no games in my government cell phone and have never heard of Google play. I tried to argue but due to exhaustion at having been in CSL for 3.5 hours by now, i gave in and agreed to $24. An hour later, $18 was actually loaded. I made a $12 charge leaving me with $6. I woke up today and they had helped themselves to $3 more for a monthly service fee, though I'd had my new card 12 hours. An hiur ago I checked again and am now four cents negative, due to google play trying ten times today to charge my card, costing me 25 cents each hit, though I was assured yesterday this wouldn't happen again. All in all, i got $12 for plasma that will net hundreds for CSL. Enjoy, low lives, i wont be back. You and your awful employees and card issuing thieves will never make another penny from me. Have a nice day. And eff you all. If you enjoy being spoken down to, stolen from and treated poorly for "saving lives", knock yourselves out. Youve been warned. read more

I used the location on Lake Street. I will never use this location again. The website states the process should take approximately 90 minutes. I have gone (3) times to donate plasma. The first two times took over 4 hours. The last time I went, I left after 3 hours and I was still waiting to donate. There is no sense of urgency or respect for the donor's time. The center is understaffed and unconcerned about efficiency. One of the admin's had a man at her station for over 30 minutes flirting with him, while MANY others stood in the line waiting to be assessed. The nursing staff sat with their door open, no patients in their room, on their computer, adding over another half hour to the wait. When I asked how long the wait time was, the nurse responded "there are more people in front of you," yet stayed on their computer and did not invite anyone to their exam room for an additional 20 minutes after my inquiry. It is very frustrating to experience such a monumental lack of regard to their donors, be bounced around from one station to another, and waiting unbelievable amounts of time at each station. I will not be going back to this center. read more

Usually pretty good, but understaffed during rush hour times. They were better when they 1st opened. A lot of good people have left, and the staff lately seems slow. They are also lacking in experience with sticking your arm. I see them constantly helping each other with bad sticks. They have bruised me recently a few times. It is a nice new building, and everyone is super friendly. They do have a few good people, however they are not around a lot lately it seems like. I think this is the best csl center i visted so far. The staff is always helpful and the center is always clean. I miss Carol but Leo and the rest of the crew are excellent at what they do. At times ot ,ight seems like it takes forever to get to thw beds but o believe it because they timing the whole process. I honestly usually just let my bad experiences go and keep mental note for myself to not return, but in this case I just felt needing to do so. I typically am scheduled at a different Plasma donating center in the Metro, but drive a distance to get there. I felt since Bloomington CSL Plasma was only 8 minutes away I would give it a shot. My first call with them I learned it was a first come first served basis and was informed they hope to get people in and out within 1.5 hours, which is longer than I typically am at my center usually. Still I gave it a shot. I arrive at the location 11/30/20 about 5:15pm with lines across both sides of the center. As a new donor to this center I follow the huge sign on the ceiling stating " New Donors" assuming this long line was for new donors, no one was at the front desk for any clarification. After 5 minutes of standing in this line a tech informs me I should check in at the front desk first and not stand in this line. She gathers my info and directs me to a side room to go over comprehension of reading..pass this. I sit in the lobby reading the material and watching the CSL donating video on my phone. After being completed for about 5 minutes a tech states someone else will be with me shortly. Another 10 minutes goes by. Finally getting to the iron prick etc, this process took many minutes also between switching techs to help me in a room I did not feel was entirely clean. I then wait another 10 minutes for a nurse whose cell phone was going off several times, and answered while I was in the room. I was telling myself several times at this point to leave and this just wasn't the place for me. Skip ahead and I get to the donating area. The tech here placed the IV in a place that stung me several times and dug around with it in my arm to try and adjust, still hurting. I have never been deferred in all the time I have donated plasma but told her it hurt so bad I was not willing to even try the other arm. I feel bad that this location is understaffed, I could see the overwhelming faces among all staff, I felt people were there only for the money aspect and not so much the care to help patients in need. I believe I was paid for this visit still, but will not even consider returning, I will continue to make a further drive to be in an organized, clean, and appreciated setting. read more
