I was a new donor this past Monday (now Friday) at the West Ave location. The new donor intake process was a bit long as expected but not unpleasant. The gentleman who did my physical was great as were all the staff members who helped me with the intake process. The issue occurred during the donation process. I had donated at a different location consistently for about a year, but decided to try octapharma for it's convenient location. I never had issues at the other location regarding the stick. I don't have unusual veins in any way. This Monday the tech who stuck me had many issues with my vein. The machine was not receiving blood no matter how much I pumped. The tech had to move my needle around quite a bit, eventually with the help of another tech, until they decided to put the machine on "it's lowest setting". It was a long, and painful process. My arm hurt significantly from when I left the building until today. I called Donor relations on Wednesday to explain my situation and told her I had donated many times and had never had this much pain and wasn't sure if this was normal. To this she replied "yes this is normal for a first time donor"..... First time donor?? This is my reason for this review. Place is generally overall clean. Sometimes the clientele isn't so much. Some people just don't know how to bathe I guess! Employees are great, only encountered one with a bad interaction. I don't trust the manager that was on duty James Nebo as he makes excuses for everything they do wrong. I went to the Center located on West Avenue in San Antonio Texas on December 1, 2021 and the sign on the counter said 1000 for your first 10 donations. They lost my first blood sample so I had to wait two weeks to donate again. They allowed me to keep on the new donor bonus but now said it's only $700 for the first seven donations. I came today for my seventh donation and My pulse rate was high I asked the girl if I can go to my truck she said yes I went out there and came back and he told me I couldn't donate because I left the building. The entire experience was horrible they made lies up about me saying I went to the Mexican restaurant next-door and try to make an excuse for everything the manager James Nebo was about the most full of excuses of anyone I have ever met. He tried to justify everything and will change what he was saying to meet the need and cover his rear. I strongly recommend you stay away from this Octapharma plasma. read more

This place use to be really good could just walk get screen and seated past 2 months it's been horrible worse service you'll get from any plasma place walk in get screen and you'll be waiting for 1-2 hours just to be SEATED.. then you'll have to wait another 30 mins to be connected to the machine. Also they raised the donation rate but not the pay out.. most of the old staff quit they don't even take advantage of all the machines they have to offer. Place is just terrible now. read more

They make fake diagnoses. To stop you from donating. They make up diagnoses and scare you into contacting your doctor. I made appointment with my doctor and was advised my heart was fine. Also they could not make that diagnosis without any medical equipment. That doctors appointment cost me $180 for a fake diagnosis. I will tell everyone and anyone who asks. It was the head nurse. And he was rude when I asked questions. read more

While everyone who attends to you here is friendly I do have one MAJOR complaint regarding this location. It's a major health concern for you as a donor.... The employees are told that they don't have to change gloves or wash/sanitize their hands between each donor. So when they stick the previous donor with the needle they can take any blood born pathogens that donor might have and transmit it to your arm. As a healthcare professional I was shown through all of my schooling that you should ALWAYS wash your hands between patients be it with soap and water or sanitizer. BEWARE of this when you visit and make sure to ask them to use new gloves before they place a needle in your arm. They could be transmitting things like HIV, Hepatitis and other blood born illnesses. Simple healthcare 101: Always wash/sanitize your hands between every patient. read more

This place is slow , they move without urgency. Donating process use to take 1 hour tops (unless your new donor) , a bad stick will set you back . They seem to struggle with finding the right staff I get that but the staff they do have just completely seem hopeless . read more

So this used to be one of the best donation centers with high pay and great staff who stayed... in the 3 years I've come here it has totally fallen apart under current management. Donor fees now are one of the lowest for current and new donors... I highly recommend you go anywhere else. BioLife allows you to schedule ahead and guarantee your spot with new donor fees of $1000 and BPL (where most of the good staff went for better pay) pays 75$ each and every time without any stipulations for regular donors and also does $1000 new donor and let's you come back with tattoos with certain paperwork. Grifols Biomat is also at $1000 and 80$ per. Currently at Octapharma 90% of the staff I knew is gone. The lines are ridiculous not cus of donors but low staff who wants to work this job for pay that is degrading? It's really sad that this will be my last time at octapharma because of the way they treat their staff and them lowering their new donor fees by $400 to lower than regular donors is ridiculous. Everyone's fees have dropped HIGHLY AVOID this place now. :/ read more

Octapharma told me I had an STD. Timeline of events: 06/28/2021 Routine visit to health care provider. Regular Blood Work & STD tests were done. 06/29/2021 Results become available, all are negative. 07/03/2021 First Donation to Octapharma. They take a couple of vials of blood. Notify me that its for testing. I agree. I then continue to make donations regularly but missed a week due to being out of town. 10/22/2021 Notified me I needed to speak to someone. Sat down in a room with a nurse who proceeded to tell me that they tested my blood from my October 11th donation (no one took any veils of blood from me since my first donation) and it tested positive for Hepatitis B. First thing I ask is..."HOW? I havent had sex in three months. I haven't had sex since I started donating here." Additionally, I had zero symptoms. They have me sign some paperwork and tell me they will test the blood again and then let me know what the outcome is. 10/26/2021 I visit my health care provider and explain my situation. They draw blood and run a Hepatitis panel for A+B+C. 10/27/2021 Octapharma calls me. Says I need to come in and speak to them. They can't tell me over the phone. I tell them I will be in at my earliest convenience. Which is the evening of the 29th. 10/28/2021 Results are available: "HCV antibody was non-reactive. There is no laboratory evidence of HCV infection." HEPATITIS A IGM - NON-REACTIVE HEPATITIS B SURFACE ANTIGEN - NON-REACTIVE HEPATITIS B CORE ANTIBODY (IGM) - NON-REACTIVE HEPATITIS B CORE AB TOTAL - NON-REACTIVE HEPATITIS B SURFACE AB IMMUNITY, QN Patient does not have immunity to hepatitis B virus. HEPATITIS C ANTIBODY - NON-REACTIVE 10/29/2021 I go into Octapharma. They proceed to tell me that the test results were positive and wanted me to sign some paperwork. I hand them printouts of my results and tell them that I refuse to sign their paperwork. Then I left. More information: If a person tests positive for Hep B. They are disqualified from donating plasma for life. At Octapharma or anywhere since they can share their test results with other companies. Even if the person recovers and no longer displays symptoms because the antibody remains in their blood. The donation part doesn't bother me. It was free money. What bothers me is that they told me I had an STD and I started to loss sleep, become stressed and paranoid. Thankfully I was able to make a visit with my doctor and take time off of work to get tested on my own. But I was still panicking until I got my results. Incredibly needless to say that I will not be returning and I hope that others see this story and think twice about going here. read more

If you want to do a good deed for the world, this is the place to do it .All the staff is friendly very helpful, just be patient and go on a day that you have several hours and are in no hurry ; so I would say if your new donor give it about 3 1/2 hours. Very well maintenance and clean not painful. If you've been here before and donated give it about an hour and you should be fine. No appointment needed just bring your ID&social if you're a Texas resident, if you're have an out-of-state DL or license Bring in proof of residency and your social. I recently transferred to this center because the one off 410 has gotten slow. The morning shift at this location is the same. Don't sit me down if you're not ready to poke me and then the girl who will help me still walks away and is chit chatting like people have no where to go. Because we donate doesn't mean we don't have to go to work. I had to walk out because I was already waiting for almost 20 minutes and I was the only one waiting. They didn't seem short staffed just doing things slow like we have ALL the time in the world for them. I hope this is not the case every time I go in the mornings. One of the worst medical customer service location I have ever been to. Each of the staff was short and snippy with every new donor that walked in, granted some deserved it. I was there for an hour and a half before I was ever seen. They wouldn't give an estimated wait time, and at the end of the day wouldn't accept my proof of address forms I provided. Octapharma Plasma is a great facility to donate and help contribute to medicine. This location is very well organized, clean and comfortable. Televisions in line of sight of all the donation chairs keep you entertained if you forget your phone or it dies. They have subtitles on and if it's a popular movie or show, they have the sound on low so those without headphones can enjoy the entertainment. The machines that trade plasma for money are fairly new from what I'm told. The chairs are always clean and comfortable. The facilities are very clean and the entire facility is spacious and relatively peaceful. They are very generous to new donors allowing you to earn up to $250 for your first five donations. Not to mention all the bonuses they have for consistent donors! The flow of donators and processes being smooth and prompt as well as friendly and professional staff make this the location to go to donate plasma. read more
