Based on the advice of my mechanic, I took my automatic Honda Element with a jolting shift between…read morefirst and second gear to Laires to be evaluated. The transmission worked fine otherwise, it just had a harsh shift between 1st and 2nd. They drove the car and determined that I needed a $3,500-4,000 rebuild. I did further research on this problem and found that a common issue was a bad 28260-PRP-014 Transmission Dual Linear Solenoid. A part that did not require removing the transmission as it bolted to the outside. I ordered a rebuilt one from Amazon for $50 and had my local mechanic install it for an hour of labor. Transmission is now good as new. Shifts smoothly in all gears. I rather doubt Laires has never heard of this problem as it affects Honda Civics, Accords, Pilots etc. I avoided being scammed by doing my own research. To be fair to Laires, another local transmission shop gave me the same advice and slightly lower pricing. Buyer beware.

Yesterday morning, as I was on my way to a doctor's appointment at the hospital, my muffler literally fell apart. I threw myself upon the mercy of Martin's auto repair and the owner came to my rescue at 8 o'clock in the morning. He put my car up on the lift and showed me exactly what the problem was then began making phone calls. Any muffler shop would've forced me to replace the entire exhaust system. Mr. Martin found a parts place that would sell him only the part that was really needed, then he did an expert welding job producing an exhaust system that sounded like new, for half the price of a new system. Not only that, but he did this all within an hour and a half putting the job ahead of two other cars so that I could make my appointment at the hospital in time. I will never take my car to another shop! Martin's is the real deal - a family business that takes pride in their work and has consideration and compassion for the working people in the community.
