From day one, Chris was responsive and helped me make my dream staircase happen. I choose a dark finish with black, high quality ornate wrought iron. I am very pleased with the results. Like with any home project, the cost can make you gasp a little bit. Talking to Chris I learned he employees full time employees not getting day laborers to work. These amazing men like the carpenter, Elmer; site manager, Steve; breakdown employee Hayden and stain finisher, Rodrigo worked hard to get iAll these guys are skilled workers. My project took about 3 weeks. Each stair had to be painstakingly made and fitted by Elmer. Chris was very good about keeping us informed what the next step would be. He wasn't the cheapest but I wanted my stairs done right and what I was hoping was professionally. The project was delayed and we moved into the home the following year before noticing all the imperfections. He stated that the job was done more than a year ago so he's outside of the warranty. However the job was not completed until the staining was done, which was months later. Ultimately Chris is unprofessional and rude. the quality of the stairs (white oak and white paint) and a white oak handrail with white balusters was great. however there were multiple issues working with CSS. they left dust all over the house. there was some confusion about what we received because there was poor communication from Chris (we weren't aligned on the size and molding on the posts). they promised to touch up the paint on the walls after payment but after two weeks I'm likely going to have wait another couple of weeks until after the holidays or do it myself and I had to reach out to Chris to get status on the touch up. not awful, not great, 3 stars. read more

Could not recommend Chris and CSS stairs enough. Christ was easy to talk to and helpful in planning what we wanted from just a few conversations and pictures. Then Steve showed up with Elmer right as planned with much of the work prepared ahead of time. During the whole process we were able to access both floors of our house aside from a few hours while the finish was drying. Near the end of the project my wife and I weren't quite happy with the stain we had chosen, no fault on Chris or CSS. Despite this, Chris and Rodrigo when out of their way to make it right and we couldn't be happier!!!! In our research we there are really no there places that do this type of extensive and detailed work with such precision and experience. We have no regrets for making such a good investment into our home, it's a clear centerpiece when you walk in. They have my highest recommendation! Let me first say I'm a bit of a finish carpenter myself so I'm fairly picky when it comes to woodworking craftsmanship and these guys know how to deliver Chris is the owner and always was prompt on all communications. After being in the business for over 20 years he knew what decisions to make on his own and which ones I needed to weigh in on. Even if something required a bit more work he would typically agree on my decision and went forward.....knowing you have a guy working on your house that works contentiously on a project, always wanting the best, is so rare these days. I called and I believe I spoke to Chris and I told him what I wanted to get done was staining on my staircase, a beam, and front door and was told to send him pictures what I wanted to get done and inspirational photos of something I wanted it to look like never heard back from him didn't get any response after I sent him video and pictures and just kind of rude and unprofessional.. Every morning he was there on time, he communicated well, and my kiddos loved him too! They subcontract for the staining and paint, and even the subcontractor was great! Our stairs came out amazing! Great quality and craftsmanship. I called several stair contractors. While CSS was not the cheapest, it was the most value for the price and quality of work. I was originally thinking of going with someone cheaper but Chris had mentioned to make sure that the stairs they were providing were not pre-fabricated. I'm so glad I ended up going with CSS stairs because everything is REAL wood and made with excellent craftsmanship. You can definitely tell the difference! I recently had our floors replaced and needed to get our bannister redone. I found CSS on Yelp. I wanted the bannister stained and the balusters replaced. I wanted a company close to our area and found CSS. Normally I usually get three bids, but Chris impressed me immediately with his knowledge and "no pressure" salesmanship. I chose him and his crew. From sanding to staining ( magnificent job done by his guy Rodrigo) to balusters set, the entire project was completed within a week! There were a few "hiccups" but Chris got his guy, Steve, to immediately come and correct them. CSS did a great job for me. The job was to replace an existing stair railing that was dated and install a new metal railing, with stair treads and wood posts. The carpentry work and the stain/paint work was outstanding. The job was timely and the site was left clean. My only criticism is that there was some imperfections in the wall texture where the old railing had been. They ended up doing their best to make it look good, but it really needed a texture job and I need to do that separately. But I still give them 5 stars. By the way, I got several bids for this work and CSS was the best price and also the most straightforward in explaining the job up front. read more

I just finished my staircase with Chris with CSS Finish & Stairs. I'm assuming that CSS is Chris' initials, since his last name starts with a "S." Anyways, I'm surprised that he hasn't been Yelped, yet. He has a ton of 5 star reviews on Service Magic- which is where I found him. http://www.servicemagic.com/rated.CSS.18136478.html Let's get down to the business end of this Yelp review. I got a new crib, needed to update the place. I searched high and low for a good staircase contractor. I got about 8-9 estimates. Most staircase contractors are corporate- meaning the guy who gives the estimate does NOT do the work. I found only two businesses that were small where the guy giving you the estimate are the people who do the work. Chris is guy who gives you the estimate, the guy who consults with you regarding your ideas, the guy cutting wood, the guy using the nail gun, and the guy collecting payment. Basically, he is the guy, who also is the guy, who also is the guy, who also... you get the idea. His work is impeccable. I have no complaints in regards to his workmanship. He shows up to work on time and he is very patient with my VERY picky wife. I would estimate that his prices are below the average licensed finish and staircase estimate that I received. I thought Chris' attitude was professional, friendly, and basically outstanding. My wife showed Chris a magazine photo of what she wanted on her droid phone. Chris uploaded it onto his droid phone. And he delivered that photo into our foyer. Amazing work. Reasonable cost. And most importantly- awesome customer service. I'd use him again in an instant. read more

Over 6 months ago, my husband and I hired someone to install a new bannister. The guy did the demo, but kept dragging his feet to install the new one. After several months and multiple no shows, we decided to move on and hire someone that would actually get the job done. We chose CSS bases on the reviews here and on houzz. We are so happy that we did. Chris came out right away to take a look at the space and provide us with an estimate. After scheduling the installation, he was very responsive and accommodating to our design changes. He also shared some ideas with us. One installation day, Steve showed up on time and worked for hours and hours to get the job done. If I remember correctly, I think came at 7:30 and didn't leave until 3:30. He did an excellent job! We were happy with the look of the bannister. We were also impressed by how clean he left the place. In the past, we had workers who left a mess behind. This was not the case with Steve at all! Aside from some dust (very understandable) that we had to wipe down, he left the inside and outside (where he built the bannister) immaculate. Steve also hauled away the materials from our old bannister, which Chris was kind enough to say was okay. About a week and half later, Rodrigo came out to paint the bannister. Chris said he could get another painter to us earlier, but we didn't mind waiting. Similar to Steve, Rodrigo came on time and worked hard to get the job done. Overall, he did a great job. However, after he left, we noticed that there were a few scuffs on the wall and there were holes left behind from where Steve had to move a bracket. We let Chris know and he came out to take a look at it. When he was here, I also let him know about a gap between the handrail and baluster, as well as a missing block under the handrail. I told him it wasn't a big deal because no one would see it unless they were looking closely. But, Chris insisted that he would take care of it. Rodrigo came out the next morning and took care of everything in an hour. We definitely recommend the guys at CSS (and have already referred them to a friend). I went on Yelp to find this review as my family was looking to have Crown Moldings done in my 4,343 Square Foot home. The job took 3 days to do as we did the entire home. The painting took 3 days as well. These guys were 1000% professional and are legitimate. We are so damn happy with the job that I'm raving about it to everyone I know. The painters took very special care of not just the moldings but of my wall. I never asked them to repaint my room but they did because the paint we received didn't match anymore if they just painted right below the moldings. That had to do with the quality of the paint. So we bought new paint and they re-did the entire room. These guys are not satisfied with the work until you are. I highly recommend them for moldings. read more
