It's nice to have a gym so close by that I can just go for some climbs for an hour any time I want…read more Although this place is located in an odd area, there's so many friendly climbers on a daily basis, I don't worry about my car in the lot. Coming into the parking lot, I'd say be careful driving past the gate; the gate isn't secured properly to the cement on the floor, so it pops up, making it hazardous for your tires. The workers here are very chill, just like any other gym, though climbers are very chill in general. They're very helpful and friendly if you ever need them. They keep the gym very clean and the bathrooms well stocked. They are also always quick to notice you and provide support if needed. The routes here are a range of difficulties. The basic routes here feel slightly more difficult than other gyms, helping you build your core. They reset the walls on a weekly basis, which encourages you to come back. On the weekdays, it's ridiculously packed where people don't wait their turn in the walls. Lots of newcomers and people who come after work. If you like climbing freely, wait for weekends in the evenings!

I love visiting the other gyms as well in upland and riverside. In over a decade of climbing here, I've met some wonderful friends and climbing buddies. Front desk staff has always been the kindest and most knowledgeable of any of the other gyms. I'm hoping today was an aberration, but I have never been treated so rudely. No empathy, just plain cold at the front desk. I will continue to support and recommend Hangar 18 to new and we experienced climbers, but hoping they ask the new front desk staff to treat guests with young kids better.

Parking is not the best especially during peak hours; I find myself parking inside the residential areas just to come to gym. They have auto belay, a top out area, and a very large bouldering section. They don't have a super long slab wall, but they do have a wide variety of problems and types of boulder holds. As an avid v4 climber, I think the routes here a fairly easy for my grade, yet the problems are very fun in itself. The interior is very clean and the workers are diligently checking the gym, restocking, and cleaning restrooms. They have merchandise for purchase, too. On very busy days, the students from the colleges are here to climb. I'd avoid climbing in weekdays after 3 PM if you want more time on the wall without competition. Other than that, it is a nice gym with nice workers.

Walked in after work to do some bouldering while traffic simmered down, and to sus things out for my fiance who also climbs. Small but looked like people were having fun! I was met with SO much hostility from the front desk, thought I was hallucinating. Did their waivers and training video as expected, worker had left us to our own devices entirely. Huge line at the front, I'd been there at least 45 minutes at that point. Then I saw this adorable microscopic font sign, super endearing You could have just told me you don't take walk-ins, instead of being brazenly rude. When clearly that policy isn't even enforced. Other patrons who also walked in didn't receive quite as much vitriol. I was told I'd have to test out, no biggie, but nobody else was told this. Nobody else was asked "do you climb?" with a whole lot of attitude. Yeah I climb, and I enjoy walking in here looking like a corporate loser about as much as you enjoy seeing it. Just wanted to change into jeans and a t-shirt and boulder a bit. Might go to some other hangar 18 location someday, but won't be enthused about it. Not a lot of options around. Saw the sign and left because they hadn't asked me to pay yet, and I'm not paying for that attitude. I can only assume she was giving me attitude because I walked in looking all corporate, which is ironic to me because this is the most corporate looking rock gym I've ever seen. Y'all can keep it.

I'd only rate it higher if it were 24hrs so I could go at 2am but I understand that that is unreasonable on my part due to funding and student employees'schedules. POSITIVES It's close, if you live in the area, since there's no other decent gym that can compare. The attendants are friendly.. Not expensive if you're not affiliated. People are cooperative if you ask for a spot. Good place to find a workout partner if your looking for one. Great activities at reasonable prices. NEGS My only beef with the gym set up is that all the bench presses need to be pulled away from the windows bcs it's impossible to replace or remove the 45lbs plates w/o struggling. Some attendants should stay on the floor supervising in order to ensure that all weights are returned and workout stations are broken down. Sometimes there are people that have absolutely NO clue what they are doing so some should ask for some initial workout instruction assistance w/o feeling embarrassed. But really, these are minor gigs bcs I keep high standards when it comes to gym etiquete.

They have plenty of equipment and personal training at a ridiculously affordable price (Emily is the best!). My only complaints are the blasting air conditioning (I try to avoid the invasive vents, anytime I am positioned underneath one I leave with a sore throat) and the hours. I really wish they opened a little earlier so I had time to work out more before work.

They offer both top-rope climbing and bouldering, and both require an orientation--which I appreciated as a first-timer. I was surprised by how many people were bouldering, from novices to very experienced climbers. There's also a small gym with basic equipment. Overall, it was a fun, spontaneous activity for a random free day--kind of like bowling, but more physical and engaging. Definitely requires some strength and problem-solving. Would absolutely come back!

Well, the 30 min class turned out to be only a 5 min introduction to the rules of the rock climbing place and the only technique taught was how to fall. The instructor hastily dismissed the kids and said "Have fun". That was basically it. i thought the class would cover more bouldering techniques. I have just pulled up the class description (see pic). Had I seen this while we were there, I would've spoken to a manager about this. This is not right at all. The instructor only spent 5 min with our kids. There was only so much the girls could do on their own with that inadequate 5 minute "lesson". It could have been a fun playdate if they were given more instructions so they could've done more than climbing up 3-4 steps on just the 2 easy routes. 1 star and not likely to return. You did not deliver what was promised and wasted our time and 25 bucks each. Poor business practice. Thumbs down.
