Small space, foods taste normal , Bentos need more selections and it is not cheap for small portion in a convenience store.

There are two sections to Nico's - a take out are where you can order poke, poke bowls, Hawaiian food, as well as fresh fish; also available are beer in a cooler and wine. Next door is a busy restaurant with a full bar. My sister and I wanted some poke and based on her friend's recommendation, we decided to visit. I ordered the special ultimate poke bowl (three fish selection) and it's amazing where there is more poke than rice! My sister's choice was also tasty. As we were checking out, the young cashier stated we could eat next door in the restaurant - wow, a pleasant surprise. It was during lunch so the restaurant was busy, but we found a seat. What's goes great with great fresh poke? Great fresh poke + beer, which was available at the bar! A great combination. Located off of Nimitz, Nico's is located on the far end of a converted warehouse, close to the pier, park and walk. It's worth visiting.

Lunch menu has more variety and the dishes are done well (Blackened ahi sandwich is sooo good, truffle fries, chicken katsu ) This review is for the dinner service: Ambiance: it's a good view, it's right on the pier, and it's dog friendly. (4/5) Staff: Hostess - we asked to sit outside and asked for a table near the railings - she told us that the table wasn't available but it was available the entire time we were there and there were several other open tables. (3/5) Waiter: quick service (mostly) & friendly. But didn't refill our water or inquire - tbf he was covering a lot of tables.(4/5) Food: (5/5) Poke Nachos. Order these, you won't be disappointed. Creme Brûlée Cheesecake - this was so good. (4/5) Drink/After 7: I like when the presentation looks like the pic; This did not but it was delicious. (3/5) Garlic chicken bites / average - crunchy but a little bland Edamame / fresh but average Monchong (catch of the day) the fish was fresh but the seasoning was bland Steak fritters- the steak was well cooked and flavorful, but the fries were way over salted and tasted previously frozen. (2/5) The burger - the patties had too much filling and not enough "burger". I got the side salad instead of fries and it's just green leaf lettuce, a little wilted, withe house dressing, and the dressing is not great. Desert slices are small and cost 8.50-13.00 (go down the road to Liliha Bakery instead) Vanilla Caramel Crunch cake - there wasn't a real "crunch" and the caramel layer in the top is way too thick. Chocolate cake - too dense Mango cheesecake - too tart

So I'm so glad to have found another... until yelpers give this place a lot of business as well. Just checked out their Yelp reviews and noted they cook their great seafood to order in the attached food court - winner!!!! As for the poke, which I did get this time, they let me sample the California, Hawaiian, spicy ahi, and another one which I actually bought but forgot the name. It looks similar to spicy ahi without the super spice. All the poke was super fresh and tasty. The guys working the counter was super nice and they're cutting the fish fresh. It's a great addition to the Blue Market fresh seafood stalls in the Maunakea market. Im going for the fresh steamed fish next time!

Some steamed, some deep fried. It looked so good we had to come back another day. Spoke with the gentleman running the counter and he told us to go to the adjacent seafood monger (same company) and pick your fish. They have all kinds to pick from including shrimp, clams and oysters. Some fish are better suited for steaming versus deep frying. For the most part deep fried fish is delicious but most fish deep fried will lose its fresh taste. The monger said the Onaga fish will have a firm texture when steamed. Once you pick the fish they take it back to the kitchen to prepare it. Pricing is based on the fish per pound and then they add on $10-$20 for the preparation. We ordered a 1.8 lb Onaga fish whole "long tailed red snapper" Steamed... I'm telling you it was fantastic! fresh and flavorful. Got a bowl of white rice as well... dang it was good! The seating area is narrow but a vibrant scene. Was packed and lots of folks ordering from the various other food vendors in the space. Give them a try!

Our favorites are the siu mai and fried shrimp balls, the shrimp balls have these noodles on the outside which make it super crispy and fun to eat. The restaurant wasn't small, but there were just a lot of people. We waited about 20 minutes for a table. What's great about this place is that they have these paper menus. You can check off what you want while you're waiting. As soon as you get seated, you can just hand over the menu to the server and it makes the process a lot faster. It didn't take that long for us to get our food. We ordered a lot of items. We got the shrimp dumplings, black bean spareribs, beef look fun, Shanghai pork dumplings, steamed salted egg custard buns, pan fried turnip cake, seafood bean curd roll, sesame balls with red bean, taro puffs and chicken dumplings. Everything was on point except the sesame balls with red bean. They were small and the breading was thick. Pass on those. My two favorites were the black bean spareribs and the salted egg custard buns. I love salted duck eggs. The prices here are a bit more than the average dim sum spot. Most of the steamed baskets were $7-$8. If you use your American Savings Bank debit card you get a discount: $7 off $50, $15 off $100 or $75 off $500. Free parking in the basement of the building.

Upon walking in, my boyfriend and I were warmly greeted and guided to the seating area for all you can eat. Fountain drink is included in the AYCE rate. You can pay extra for sashimi. Tons of nigiri, rolls, hand rolls, fried foods and sides on the menu. You must finish whatever you order in a round before ordering again. Make sure not to waste! My tip would be to order more nigiri, as the rolls/hand rolls are made with a lot of rice. Very filling. Loved the miso soup! The service was good. Everyone is super friendly! The EXPERIENCE however was terrible. I've been to Ahi & Vegetable many times prior to moving and have always enjoyed their bowls, however, It was my first time trying their AYCE sushi. I'll start with the good. I enjoyed the poke bowl and crunch roll. The menu didn't offer a lot of options and many options costed extra per order. It was an interesting set up. They give the table 1 laminated menu and a pen. The table has to decide how much of each item they want and write it in. Apparently the menus are numbered according to table which is how they keep track of orders. They do warn you that they charge for food not eaten. There were no instructions on how to order or a check in of who has been there before. We came hungry so we ordered. Our orders took a long time to come. One of our tables didn't even get their order which makes me think their ordering system failed. Our food comes out but not all of it. They hand back the menus. We order again. Again it takes a while, but dishes sporadically come out and they keep handing the menus back. All of a sudden all these plates are coming out, some I swear we didn't order. We are trying to keep up, the finished dishes are piling up because the staff gave up bussing tables. I kept track of my personal orders and noticed the orders were duplicated and they were bringing out food we didn't order. The lady tried to bring the menu out but the math wasn't "mathing". There were bowls already in take out containers as opposed to the dine in bowls in earlier orders. This signals an expectation to take out. FYI dry erase can easily be changed by staff. Anyway we ended up with a ton of unfinished food and had to pay extra. I had to take home food no one ordered. It was a mess. I want to blame our large party, but my other coworker was there the same night with just her husband and even they were being handed food they never ordered. Do I think their system is a scam to get you to pay more? Absolutely. Would I go there for AYCE again? Absolutely not. Would I take out a small order? Perhaps.

The restaurant was pretty cute both outside and inside, and I could tell it draws a good crowd for football games, which is a plus. For the poke bowls, we got the Spicy Shoyu Ahi, Furikake Salmon, and Ultimate. Overall, they were pretty good and decent bowls. I liked that there was a condiment bar at the end to add any toppings you wanted. The fish was fresh and well seasoned, with no fishiness at all. I just wished there was a bit more white onion for crunch, but it was good regardless. The Fish and Chips were really good. The fish was super crispy, the meat was firm, and the fries were nicely fried. The tartar sauce or maybe more of a lemony aioli, was the star. It wasn't your usual tartar sauce; it had a homemade lemony sweetness that made it delicious. My only complaint was that the batter came off the fish pretty easily, which made it a bit tricky to eat at times.

Nice to have the text system to let you know when you're table's ready but (they only give you 5 minutes to claim your table so don't get too involved doing something else!) We thought the combo would be too much food for just the two of us. My husband also wanted to try some things you can't find anywhere else. So we ordered a basket of the Fried Soft Shell crabs. It comes with cocktail sauce but they'll give you tartar sauce if you prefer. It comes with your choice of Cajun or Lemon Pepper Fries. We got the Lemon Pepper. We also ordered the Lobster Roll - non-spicy. Our server was very honest about the size of the roll - two King Sweetbread rolls. This also comes with fries so we tried the Cajun fries with the lobster roll. Hardly any wait time. Everything tasted wonderful. Little hidden spice in the soft shell crab batter but not too much. My husband also ordered Gumbo (no rice). Delicious! Five shrimp (yes, we counted them) and tasty Andoui sausage. Okra (not too slimy) on the top. Service was excellent. No pushing. Very patient with the questions and explanations. They put a star on your table to designate first time visitors so you know they want to male your first visit the best. Everyone kept checking back with and manager stopped by too. Parking validation took $4.00 ofd our parking. Not bad. Leigh and Brandon and one more female server (I'm sorry I didn't write down your name!) are the best!
