Been coming here for years whenever we want a quick, hot, home-cooked style meal. You can either pick from the hot food line or grab one of the ready made bentos. The flavors are kind of a mix of Japanese, Korean, and local-style. We usually order the two choice plate with rice from the hot food line, which also comes with your choice of three vegetables. The side vegetables lean more Korean style. They dish out a pretty generous portion which is usually more than enough for the two of us. Our favorites are always the chicken, saba, and roast beef. The salmon is a hit and miss. Sometimes they can be dry. I don't care too much for the fish jun or the meat jun. It's not that they're bad, they just don't have any flavor and the sauce that comes with the dish doesn't do much to elevate the it. Terrible customer service. Young Lady serving food kept staring at me and not responding to my requests. She was so very rude, I asked her with a simple request and gave me a cold reaction while staring at me for a very long time. I tried to understand her but after speaking with one of the managers there, I still feel dissatisfied with their service. I am willing to pay for food but not invest in that kind of attitude. I was respectful to begin with. But decided to leave and not quarrel and left peacefully. I just read Brian F, Carina Y and Lara S' s review about AJA Sushi & Bento's customer service. I couldnt agree better. Now it makes total sense. I 100% agree with them moreso, if I had known this earlier. It happened to me today. Their service was so terrible to a point they lacked proper customer service etiquette. The young lady there gave me a rude stare and not answering my questions and not responding at all. I brought up to the manager that I am not happy with that type of attitude to customers. Id rather pay and invest elsewhere than support them. I still left dissatisfied. she shouldnt be working there at front. If she is, she is the face of the company. and that speaks so much volume. I can forgive but at the same time, move on to elsewhere. There was no apology from that young person. I'm a sucker for a good Korean savory pancake. When I browsed the selections for the afternoon and saw a delicious looking seafood pancake on the grab and go counter I had to get it. In fact, I grabbed the last two packages! It appears this grab and go counter has a nice selection of both Japanese/local and Korean prepackaged items and made to order. Prices appeared to be more than reasonable. And in the afternoons may even be discounted. Not sure what time that is though. The paejun was deeelicious. Sauce provided gave the perfect seasoning. Sure it wasn't as crispy as if just made to order. But for what it is I would absolutely buy again. Located in the Makai Foodcourt of Ala Moana Center, Aja provides a nice option amongst many options. What the heck happened Aja!!? This place used to be good. Supposedly known for their garlic chicken and now it's literally all batter!! Tough, bland roast beef and the meat Jun (barely any beef) no taste and rubbery. LITERALLY WORST KOREAN FOOD IVE EVER HAD! The beef was inedible; I gave it to my dog. Also, I called trying to get a refund and the manager would not refund my money unless I came back with the old food and receipt. I told her I could give her the receipt/transaction # that was texted to me after I used tap to pay. She said she wouldn't use that either. I also told her I live all the way in Mililani so I can't come back to town. She basically said too bad that's all she can do. That's terrible customer service!! Walked around Makai Market Food Court to see what I wanted to eat. Out of many options, I decided on Aja Sushi & Bento. They offer many selections such as garlic chicken, gyoza, grilled fish, japchae and many more. Prepacked for easy grab and go. Everything looked really good. Asked if they're open... glad they were open. Ordered the two choice main and 3 choice side. Asked what substitution is available for no rice, they said +1 more side. I was a bit overwhelmed with the amount of options in the Makai Market food court, but the variety at Aja was appealing - you can try several Korean dishes in a bento! I ordered "double" box - 2 proteins, 3 sides, and white rice. For ~$15, the amount of quality food you get is ridiculously good. I got the fried zucchini (they counted this as a protein option), salmon, japchae, seaweed salad, and gai lan. Everything was seasoned well and fresh. I split the "double" box with another person, and we were both full. They also have to-go sides that can be quickly scanned at the register. I like that the set up is like Poke Bowl, where you get to pick your base, your main and 2 sides. I was in serious carnivore mood. I haven't been in the food court for years so I kinda took a long around. I was starving so I was willing to pay mall prices for food. Then I saw Roast Beef! Yowza! (If you see my posts I've been on Yelp for a while. I've gotten old and now disabled. Consequently I no can eat as much. Now a mini is just right for me. So sad, I love food. I was a fatty, a chunk but now I lost over 60 lbs.) I got the roast beef mini with 2 sides, tofu and japchae. This was about 2 pm so nevah have too many hot food choices. They had the usual Korean sides like fried zucchini but I can go to Palama Market and get it all for much cheaper. The RB is $1.89 more, so my mini was about$16+. Small pieces but it was sliced thick and hard for eat with chop sticks. I really needed a knife and fork. Y'all look at my pix and tell me if it's worth it. I did and was full but I ate it all. I asked for the fattiest beef, I love fat. I like the idea of having "fresh" sides but I did miss my Mac salad. The RB was ONO! Very tasty with the gravy. The male cashier apparently is on some kind of talking limit or is mute. I'm not use to Apple Pay (I'm a dinosaur ok) so I asked questions and he didn't answer me. Just stood there like a statue. I asked do I tap or insert my card. No reply. I think he used his finger to tap. And the nerve that it automatically asks for a tip. Why should I tip a mute dummy. Is he training to be a mannequin? One of our friend recommended Aji so we checked them out and walked around to see the other options. We ended back at Aji which offered a large selection of Korean/Japanese items consisting of pre-packaged items and food on the steamer trays. Saw the Bento choices and opted for the Two Choice Plate which consisted of 2 mains, 3 sides and rice. I selected the saba and garlic chicken for the mains and gai laan greens, yellow radish and japchae for the sides. The saba was flaky and tasty, just beware of the bones. Great spot for a wide array of bentos, Korean sushi, and musubis for a decent price for being in Ala Moana. They also offer ala cart bento, 1 choice, or two choice plate options with Korean sides. I got a two choice garlic chicken and Saba plate with Jap Chae, Kim Chee, and bean sprouts. The chicken had a great crunch and a light garlic flavor, for most it is probably to0 over breaded. Albeit I enjoyed the crunch. The saba was awesome, thick piece with all its umami flavor. The one slight downside, was the meat was room temperature and not hot. If it were hot, it probably would have been much better. Overall, a great spot for a solid food via bento or plates and I will be back again...probably next time I want my Saba fix. read more

You just tell them what you want and they'll box it for you, so no wait time. I usually get the two item plate. I get the shoyu chicken and garlic chicken. Their garlic chicken is one of the best. I'm not sure what they put in their batter, but it must be super batter. Their garlic chicken stays crispy even after being drenched in the garlic sauce. (They open daily at 8am - except for Sundays when they open at 9am.) The food fragrance drew me to their counter where there were many bentos ready to go. Located near Auntie Anne's and next to The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Aja & Bento has some good looking Kimbap and Banchan. I thought I'd get a Jun Bento - it had two zucchini Jun and two Korean pancakes. The zucchini was yummy! The chewy pancakes had a few bits of squid and some chives. I used the dipping sauce to pep up the flavor. If I need an early and reasonably priced meal, I wouldn't hesitate to return to Aja & Bento. It's efficient and convenient. One of my favorite places to grab lunch. It's very convenient and quick. They offer an option for you to build your own bento with hot options available on the far right, with preset bentos on the left. You can watch as the employees plate the bentos that they are presetting, so you know that they aren't sitting for too long. My favorite bento to grab is the Ajapac with 2pcs of Shrimp Tempura, Garlic chicken, and 3 Fried Gyoza. Ive tried the Meat Jun and Salmon PACs as well, but wasn't a big fan. The Meat Jun is a little blan and doesn't taste the best when it's cold(probably better to get when it's hot), and the Salmon tends to be a bit over cooked and dry. All in all, you get a pretty decent value for the price $14.99 for the original Ajapac and $12.39 for the Mini Bento. Zero customer service from all staff. Asked about the roast beef and if it was available by itself. Was told no, ok ask for the one choice bento with the roast beef, they add $1.89 to the price if you do. $13.70 for the one choice + $1.89. They give you 4 of the smallest pieces. I asked is that all we get for $15? The reply was, "Yes the cost of beef has gone up." I noticed that was a response from the staff stated in another Yelp review from 2017. Told them to forget it and walked away. By comparison you can get a Zip Pac for $15.65. Won't go back, not worth the high prices and small portion sizes. read more

Love coming here for their crispy garlic chicken and their kim bap also known as korean sushi. Located in the Ala Moana Maikai Food Court next to Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf. It is similar to a fast food korean restaurant like Yummys or Tasty's where you can choose banchan with your dishes but they have other items like saba, shoyu chicken, braised beef, meat Jun, and veggie Jun. They also have pre-made bentos. Their service is okay. Once I tried to order a plate with one choice and the employee working stated that I could not order 1 choice and only 2 or 3 choices. They have several workers working the counter and 1 cashier. Some are friendly and some just do their work. I tried their shoyu chicken and it was very peppery. Didn't like it much. The other food was okay, but my favorite are the garlic chicken and korean sushi. So so delicious! The garlic chicken is very crispy and tasty. Sometimes piecea have more crunchy batter, but still so so good. The kim bap (korean suahi) is a mixture of daikon, carrots, choice sum, egg, and bulgogi beef. They add a spicy soy sauce in your container which you can add and makes it even better. The flavors in the sushi are good like all the korean goodness in one bite! We came here at the recommendation of a friend. It seemed like a good choice since there was no line. We picked out a mixed bowl. It looked good. There were 2 shrimp tempura and garlic chicken over jap chae and rice with a takuan pickle and broccoli. Everything was ok except the garlic chicken was almost all batter. Ok, the five stars is specifically for their garlic chicken and taegu, so if you get something else and don't like it uh sorry but I didn't recommend that. It's like if PF Chang's Honey Chicken had a baby with Panda Express' Orange Chicken, wasn't as orange tasting but had this wonderful surprising sweet outer layer satisfying CRUNCH to it. My gosh, I had no expectations and now I'm going to have to go to Ala Moana for this delicious chicken. Oh no. Shopping and eating yummy chicken, sounds terrible. Lol just kidding. Anyway the one choice plate comes with rice and two sides (Taegue, japchae, Kimchee, mac salad, radishes, etc) , which they don't put not in the plate and with your rice and main dish, but in a side rectangular plastic container! I love this place. There are always 2 to 3 fish choices, and they are grilled, not fried. I like the saba and salmon. Yesterday, they had unagi (eel), so I tried that, and the garlic chicken just came out, so I ordered that too. It was excellent, crunchy on the outside, moist on the inside. The eel was cooked just right and it melted in my mouth. There are many sides to choose from. I got the chop Chai, watercress, and bean sprouts. Generally, I get one main item. I've been eating here since they opened and never posted a review, now i'm gonna post why I always go back....when at ala moana food court, this is my go to meal, love aja chicken bento, its the chicken thats onolicious. Always has a slight crunch under the sauce. Service is good, accept if you go when super busy, then you feel rushed. Love they prepack bentos, sides, etc and leave out for you to select what you want or you can create your own if you go early enough. Each bento is asst or you can get only chicken if you want, love to browse and see what combo they have created for they day, sometimes it meat jun, salmon, fish, mandoo, noodles, it's like a chop suey of bentos and sometimes you can get all meat jun or a fish, all depend. It's in the food court so what ambiance you get is just typical food cour atmosphere. Nothing more or nothing less. Grab a table if you with others, they tend to fill up quickly. For me, they didn't have much. Lots of fried food, lots of soy sauce and after walking around the whole food court, we ended up there. My husband ordered a dish and ordered the inari for me. They were dry and flavorless. And since it was first thing in the morning, before their opening time of 11 am. I had some better expectations for them. They had some bento boxes that I could have put together, but I didn't want to wade through all of the dishes to see which ones I could eat and which ones I couldn't. Another problem is that their menu consisted of a bunch of pictures. I saw some other pictures online of menu items posted, but they had a bunch of things out on the counter with signs and on the lit signs above them they had pictures and prices. Used to come to the UH location when I was in school, so I already knew their food was decent. Typical bento/local Korean food, but slightly high on the price. They had a bento with 2 fried shrimp, 1 mandoo, garlic fried chicken, and rice for about $12 with tax and a large portion of garlic chicken only for about the same price as well as some fried fish for around $8. The chicken was quite hard but the flavor was good. Fish was a bit tough. I also tried their kimbap which was pretty good, but I heard their veggie one is the best.
