This Sandwicheria absolutely delivered another favorite meal for me with wonderful service. I ordered the vaca frita & subbed the maduros for yuca... the best. This is one of my top favorite dishes in Denver. The beef is so juicy while getting those crispy edge bites. It's rich and indulgent, but leaves you feeling satisfied. The side of fries with garlic sauce are exactly my favorite style in that thin and crispy almost shoestring cut. The garlicky/oily dip is my dream garlic dip. I need my garlic kicking with some spice left and this is it. I don't even care that I will smell like garlic the rest of the day. It's worth it, baby! Finishing the meal with a cortadito is the cherry on top. I love the sweetness of the condensed milk and the punch that the espresso packs to lift you after your meal. So my wife and I were ever so slightly let down by this place. I was hoping for food that packed a little more punch, but perhaps I am not the best judge of Cuban food. I am now addicted to yucca fries. I had never even heard of them until BF took me to Lola, over two years ago. I was thrilled to discover that Cuba Cuba makes them, and adds garlic and cheese. The order is small, usually 4-5 fries, but they are very filling. Thick cut, crispy, and just TDF. The Cuban sandwich is amazing, usually. Once it was slightly underdone, but all the other times, it was flawless. BF tried the picadillo, but it wasn't like his mother's, so....lol. We stick with the Cuban sandwich, although we might try the steak with chimmichurri at some point. The flan and tres leches are small, but absolutely delicious. BF loves them. The platanos maduros are always perfect, sweet and deep brown. I tried a capirinha on a recent visit. Wow. Another new favorite! I tried the Paloma another time, but I like the capirinha much better. I'm sure that the mojitos are probably delicious too. There is a mojito happy hour from 2:30-5:30 M-F. Haven't made it to one yet, but I will some day. The staff is GREAT! Competent, always friendly, and efficient. We have never walked in to see a dirty table. You bus your own plates, etc, after you eat, but the tables are quickly wiped down when guests leave. None of our orders have ever been messed up. The bartender is terrific. The restaurant is small, very clean, colorfully decorated, and has a fun atmosphere. There's salsa dancing on Saturdays. Cuba Cuba is our new go-to for sandwiches and fries. They do have shoestring potato fries, apparently, but I prefer the yucca and have never tried them. I think this place has a ton of potential but unfortunately my experience didn't live up to my expectations. I ordered the pork sandwich and while the meat and flavor were super good, the "toasted" bread was completely soaked through. It was so soggy that I couldn't even pay attention to the other stuff on the sandwich. I only ate about half (and picked off most of the bread) before discarding it. I think the food is great, but I would love to see some lower carb options as well that maybe include other sides than rice and beans, and also I love the Picadillo wrap (ground beef) but it always falls apart right as you start eating it - I would love if they could find a way to fix this.
