We arrived 30 mins early for our appt on a Sunday afternoon. They were able to accommodate us but we should have showed up at our appt time. They only serve one family at a time which I think was helpful for our son. He was able to sit in his own chair this time. They had a show on that kept his attention the whole time. Mike was patient and helpful. Our son was so happy with the whole experience he high fived Mike and said he wants to come back. So thankful for this place. I took my daughter here for her first haircut on 4/2 after the rave reviews I read and even traveled from east bay. However, it's taken me nearly two weeks to finally post my experience because of how our appointment went and I will definitely not be returning. 10/10 do not recommend. This is how it went - 1. Our appointment was at 10AM and despite receiving several reminders to ensure that we are timely, the stylist himself was late to arrive and open. 2. The stylist did not introduce himself to our daughter and despite all the prep I did, she was still very nervous because he didn't make any effort to connect with her. At a certain point, I let him know that if he made the slightest effort to engage, it may help with the situation. He tried but it was not helpful at that point. 3. The pictures speak for themselves - I asked for one length cut but this is what we got. Choppy and completely uneven. For the fear of taking off more length, I now need to wait for it to grow out before correcting this mess. read more

Mike did a great job for a toddler's first haircut. Booking the appointment online was easy and I got a quick confirmation. We arrived shortly before our appointment time and only had to wait a couple minutes before we could go in. The space is set up to be very kid friendly with toys, cool chairs, and videos playing. Mike spent time asking us what we wanted from the haircut and if we wanted to save any hair (first cut). Unfortunately the toddler was not happy sitting in the awesome kid's chair, so he sat on my lap. Mike worked around wiggles and nervous tears, but still did a fabulous job. We had attempted our baby's very first haircut around 6 months - it took us forever since we had NO idea what we were doing...he freaked out so bad and cried like a hot mess! I found this place near where we lived and decided to drop-in - we got super lucky as there was ONE open spot right after we got in. The facility is catered to children. There's lots of fun stuff to keep my son entertained as we waited for our turn. Come time for our turn, my son was safely buckled into one of the fun chairs and my request was granted to make the first cut. Note that only 1 parent is allowed in the cutting area at a time. Took my daughter here for her first haircut today. She's almost 2 and in the midst of serious stranger danger, so we prepped by watching haircut videos and talking about how a stranger was going to touch her hair and give her a haircut. We fully expected she would flip out and we'd have to leave. But instead, we were shocked to have such an excellent experience. She had fun playing with the toys for ten minutes before her appointment. Then she met Mike and checked out all of the cool Elmo decorations in the salon area. She sat in the car hair station and let Mike do his thing. He asked us a lot of questions about what we wanted, and was very quick and skilled with her. At one point, he could tells she was getting wiggly and he grabbed her an Elmo book to get her to stay still. Overall, my daughter had a very fun and not at all traumatic first haircut. I have a 2 year old who HATES to have his hair touched. Even washing his hair is a struggle for me, so, although I cut the hair of my older child, he was a no-go. I needed a professional and I turned to Cubby Cuts. I walked in for our first appointment and explained the situation. No worries. My job was to basically hold my kid down while his hair was cut. 3 minutes! It was done and looked better than anything I could have managed myself. $25 for a kid's haircut is at the upper end of what I'm willing to pay. This is our go to place for my daughter's hair cut. This place is THE place for kids haircut. There are small tv units with Disney shows going on that draws kids attention. The chairs are in shape of train, tractor, cars and trucks and the kids get to chose what chair they want to use. The stylist here is very good with kids and very calm. Took my 2 year old son to Cubby Cuts today and it was a fantastic experience. My son felt very comfortable and no crying. His first experience getting his hair cut by a professional a few months prior today was not a good experience cause my son was screaming bloody murder but that was not the case today. He liked sitting on the Wiggles Car and watching TV. The stylist was very polite and was great with my son. He did a fantastic job on his hair. We will for sure be back again for his next haircut. Update: been here two more times since the first time I brought my son. They are still amazing with my son by being really good with him. Let me start this by saying that my 3 year old son has autism and other special needs, so while a lot of kids dislike haircuts he's usually a level beyond. His meltdown at another kids hair salon required two hair stylists to complete the cut (and I think we were about to get kicked out). Needless to say, haircuts are usually a stressful and sad experience for both of us. I hate to see him unhappy, but he was way overdue for a cut. I warned the staff at Cubby Cuts about this ahead of time, and they reassured me it would be no problem. I've heard that before, so I had my doubts - but we gave it a try and made an appointment for this afternoon. Right off the bat, my son loved the play area, and I appreciated that the kids are pretty much fenced in so I could let him roam. Eventually the time came to start the haircut. After a brief discussion, Mike took charge and cut and clipped away. The whole process was super quick (maybe 10 minutes if that), and the haircut looked great. Amazingly, my son didn't scream or cry AT ALL. This literally hasn't happened since his first haircut almost three years ago! I know every kid is different, but for us, Mike was just what we needed. Kudos for his confidence and speed, and mostly for his willingness to work with kids with special needs. As other special needs parents know, people who can work well with our kids are a godsend.
