The three star average of the reviews for the place is pretty apt for the most part. In terms of the positives, the space is relatively clean and the staff is fairly attentive. That being said, the complaints from the 1 star reviews are pretty spot on also, especially about the hours being not quite what they list on the website, which can be frustrating since 6:30pm or so is a bit of an early cutoff time even for Queens. Like with a lot of other things these days, their business model is to nickel and dime you with periodic rate increases and forcing you to buy a $5 lock of their own that they charge you like $20 for. Storage facilities have become a part of my life most recently here in The Big Apple, previously in Cali and multiples in South Caca-laka. Call it streamlining, collecting, downsizing, call it what you will, whatever your needs -- these are not pleasurable places but quite necessary. Necessary again for me, so I took two and my 8 x 10's were priced quite reasonably and only three miles from home. Staffers are few but fantastic, always ready to pitch in when they can and some of these fellows are big dudes and I think what a help they must be to the older customers. The street the facility is located on a tiny and tight street (112th & Jamaica Ave) with potholes and cars, always tightly parked on both sides, a large auto mechanic shop and another something or another that requires eighteen wheelers to squeeze through, so you can imagine the allotted parking spaces within Cube Smart can be tricky to get a hold of. So far though, no problems there and the hand push carat are smooth rollers and can manipulate just about every sharp angles turn with a kick or a tug. To de-stress as I pick up or put away, I walk the white cubed halls envisioning fighting off Storm Troopers with Luke, Han and Chewy to meet Artoo Detoo in the control room to rescue the princess from the depths of the Death Star. Then I depart into the jungle of a world that is here and wish I was upon the Death Star, as it sounds much more of a relaxing experience. I open the sliding aluminum door and pick up or put down again and sometimes I'll spend a bit of time going through my rock and roll memorabilia, pluck a few things to have Ebayed or to display on the shelves of my bookcases which makes my happy. I guess it's more of those groovy vibes the 70s items seem to give off that I just can't seem to let go of. read more

It was Great until recently. Cubesmart in Woodhaven area below train. They used to play music at a nice low, soothing level. This was fine. And then for months there was no music. Which is ideal. But recently, the music is blasting at close to 65 decibels on the speakers. And the speakers are all over, you can't escape the sound. How is someone to concentrate on their move, or want to take a casual pace in their storage locker when high level music is blasting all the time? It is annoying. If anyone their reads this, I will revise or if can't revise, then I delete this review and give it 5 stars otherwise if the music is either at the low soothing level of last year, or gone. But as it is now, it is not acceptable for people who want to work and concentrate on what they are doing. read more

I can not wait to move my belongings from here. Their entire set up is a bit frustrating. All of the smaller units are located above the larger units, which means you need to legit climb to and from your unit, hoping that you don't fall in the process. It's very uncomfortable, as a solo mover and occupant. 2. A couple weeks ago, I went in to clean my storage and had to give up the staircase to my unit, due to the facility only having 3 staircases. Question...what if the storage facility was full of patrons, what then - we all have to adjust our times and wait to do the things we need. Having only 3 staircases for the smaller units is horrible. 3. There is no outdoor trash compartment, no trash cans, no dumpsters...they expect you to travel, in order to dump trash. I've never experienced this from other storage facilities. As a solo mover, the front desk couldn't even offer an alternate option for me. It was literally like "oh well." 4. The hours suck! 6:40pm close? What's wrong with closing at 7pm, at least? And the staff is rushing you out of the facility by 6:15pm, so it makes it considerably uncomfortable. And once you're about to depart, there is no EXIT for customers...they've already shut the garage opening, the door connected to the front desk says: Employees only. There's no button or phone to contact the front desk, in order to exit BUT they want you out at 6:40pm? I really despise this facility and can't wait to relocate to a better one & now I know that I'll need an extra hand. 5. oh! Oh! Oh! I will never forget my first day there when I asked for assistance with my larger suitcase (since I had to climb a staircase with it) - there were 3 gentleman at the desk (2 working the desk) & NO ONE provided assistance. They all just looked at each other - so disappointing. What happened to being a gentleman? Or offering great customer service? Can't wait to vacate! read more

I had a really great experience at this location and am very happy with my first foray into self storage. We looked online to find the best price and location for us. Cube Smart came out number one. This location is right on Jamacia Ave making it really convenient. They offer a loading dock in both the front and back of the building among many other amenities. There's free coffee and tea (k-cups!), free use of their super shredder, free use of their moving truck, you are able to donate clothes right at this location, they offer shipping and receiving services, and use of their outlets and wifi if you need to work out of your storage unit. The customer service is also top notch. The girl who helped us was very knowledgeable and very sweet! She set us up quickly and never once pressured us. Definitely check out their websites for special discounts. We got a second level "locker" which is basically a smaller unit reached by those stairs on wheels. It is small, but not the size of the locker we all first think about. I was able to fit my beach cruiser bike and about 10 boxes in the locker. My only gripe is that the top "locker" is not fully enclosed. The "ceiling" of the unit it a wire gate that opens into the ceiling of the entire building. One can technically access my stuff by going through the top- but they would have to go through a lot of trouble to do that. I was explained that the open ceiling was do to a fire safety thing- but it leaves me feeling like the $23 lock I got is kind of just for show. The door also didn't feel totally secure as it swings open and is held in by a small metal bar in the middle that slides into the wall to lock in place with locks you purchase. However, the security of this facility is pretty good. You need individualized codes to get in the area of the units and it of course has cameras everywhere. This is not a 24 hour facility, so you can only get in during business hours, I believe its 9am to 7pm. Did I mention they're very clean and play good music? If you are looking for high security storage for very valuable items, I wouldn't go with a locker here, strictly for peace of mind. Definitely look into the bigger units or another place all together. But if you are looking for somewhere inexpensive and professional to store stuff, this is a great place to look into. read more

I rented one of their storage units about a year and a half ago, at what was a decent price. After 6 months... boom, $7 increase. 12 months later... boom, another $5 increase. Not much, but actually thats a 30% increase in 1.5 years, worse than the actual rental market in NYC. And both these increases came WITHOUT notification. After the first time they assured me that the price was locked in for 24 months, which didn't happen. When I called to inquire about this second increase they were pretty unhelpful. I mentioned that I saw a quote online for HALF of what they were now charging me and a competitor, and I even told them if they reverted my rent back to what it was (still more than the competitor), I'd stay... no luck. They didn't even consider it. They are completely willing to let a customer walk away over $60, after they already got a 15% rent increase a year ago. It's unfortunate, the city really needs to monitor these storage facilities more closely. ~14-15% increase year on year is waaaaayyyy beyond the standard cost of living increase, even in New York. As for the facility itself, it is clean and well maintained, I will give them that. read more

If I could give this company zero stars I would. I reserved a 5 x 10 unit online and found both the website and customer service line to give the impression that this company cared about its customers. Boy was I wrong. I showed up around 6:15pm on a Sunday with my loaded rental truck to complete my move in. The posted hours on the website, the confirmation email, and all over the facility were 9am-7pm. As soon as I walked in the door, the manager began complaining about how it was close to closing time and at exactly 6:30pm the elevator and the gate would automatically shut down. I explained to her that the hours on the building right in front of you as you walk in say that closing is 7pm. She immediately blamed it on Cubesmart customer service for not informing me and acted like I should have known better. When I mentioned that I only had a few items that would probably take under 30 minutes, she continued to argue with me and waste more time. She even gave me a "tour" of the facility and unit while insisting that if I'm not 100% done at 6:30pm it's too bad for me - I'd be locked out of the building and would have to drive my rental truck back to the rental place and come back another day. After it was apparent that she wasted enough time for me not to make it inside by 6:30pm, I went back to the truck and called Cubesmart. The rep told me he would contact his "district manager" and they would get back to me another day. I told him thanks but no thanks, and I drove the truck right out of there and into Manhattan Mini Storage. Furthermore, a week before this incident I went to another Cubesmart location on Shell Road in Brooklyn about a half hour before closing to purchase some boxes. As soon as I walked in, the manager there started complaining that she had to close -- as if purchasing 2 or 3 boxes would take more than a few minutes. Mind you, there was only one other customer inside the store. The manager also couldn't answer any of my very basic questions about the boxes, such as how much weight each of them holds or what kind of tape comes in the moving kits. When the other customer in the store offered me her used left over boxes, the manager started warning about how if I take them they are "my responsibility". She did all this with a friendly demeanor, so I wanted to like her. But her total lack of knowledge of the products and unwillingness to lift a finger aside from warning me about what I should not do made it a really bad experience. I had hoped that it was just an isolated incident, but clearly that is not the case. Bottom line - this company wasted hours of my time and my money, and couldn't care less about it. They talk a good game about customer service but they do not deliver. Avoid like the plague. read more

Good rates, clean building coupled with a friendly staff make this a good place for storage to me. There's a large garage out front you can use to get in, should be able to fit about 4-6 cars in there tightly. The only time I had an issue getting a parking spot was during the weekends when they have their auctions. They've also got carts you can use for free. read more

This scummy company hiked rent 25% after just 4 months of renting. Even more offensive is that they lowered the price 30% for new customers, so new customers are half what I pay now. Of course there was no mention of prepayments to lock in the price. read more
