This is my Express Service Advisor, Anthony. Really took care of business very helpful.

Since moving up to Morro Bay from Hermosa Beach 3+ years ago with a newly purchased CPO Subaru Outback, I needed a local dealer I could rely on for the required six month maintenance services. My first service appointment was in December on Friday the 13th...as luck would have it. Happy to say no problems at all - easy to schedule - and the Express Service is nothing short of amazing. In and out and on my way back to Morro Bay. Anthony, my Express Service Adviser was knowledgeable & turned things around with a cordial demeanor. Going back soon for my next service appointment.

Took my car there for a Recall, everything went great! Finished in less time than estimated, and even washed the car. Very happy.

Well I never thought this would ever happen ! I was happy with my service experience…read more I checked in for service today at 830 am my appointment time and was quickly assigned a service advisor. Joshua Whitlock. He was very helpful and professional. I have only had previously going back about 20 years, all horrible to bad experiences here with sales and service. So today being pleased was unexpected. It was a long awaited service for a factory recall on the passenger front airbag sensors. Check sensors and if needed replace them. He said 70% have been needing replacement when checked. To make matters stressful for me I came down from Paso. I explained to Joshua that my son in law was supposed to be off today so I could do my car appointment in SLO but due to fires burning all over CA he was not released from his CDF station and I would have to get back to Paso by 1125 to pick up the little one from Pre K. I had called my son as a backup to get him in case I was delayed at the dealership. Well the car was finished in less than 90 minutes. The Seat had to be removed to check sensors and replace them. So all was great and I was able to leave early and get back to North County to pick up the Grandson. I was very pleasantly surprised .

But they changed me anyway and now I have to wait for a refund by mail that they said will take 2-3 weeks. Ok so first off: 08/18/26 Took my car in for an oil change. We're talking about a 2025 xse Camry. They told me I needed a new radiator. And that at my previous oil change in 04/08/26 they noticed a coolant leak and allegedly fixed it and didn't charge me and that I declined the diagnostic. Wouldn't you think that a service advisor would be looking out for their customers and inform me that a 2025 Toyota Camry shouldn't be having a coolant leak and that since I'm still under the 36K warranty it be best to check it out. NOPE they didn't say Shit. Instead I was charged the diagnostic fee and they advised me not to drive it. But yet I had drove it there completely fine and had been driving it completely fine. Same day I contacted my insurance and got everything squared away. Toyota said it should be done 08/24/26 due to having to order parts. 08/21/26 Toyota sent me a video showing they replaced the radiator and that everything was now fine and the car was ready. I called Toyota and Aaron said that since my service advisor John Espinoza was out there was nothing they could do. But that he would let John know to call me first thing Monday morning 08/24/26. Did John Espinoza call me early morning 08/24/26 NO did anyone from Toyota call me on 08/24/26 NO. 08/25/26 I called Toyota and asked if my car was ready since I received the video from Toyota showing my car was ready on 08/21/26. John told me the bumper was not sitting right and they needed my permission to have caliber collision to pick it up on 08/25/26. Before I could even agree he said oh they are here walking in the door. 08/26/26 I finally got my car back and my bumper isn't on right. 08/28/26 I called Toyota to ask for my diagnostic fee refund and John said oh yeah let me ask my manager and I'll call you right back. Did John call me right back? NO. John did not call me back. 08/29/26 I called Toyota and John answered his phone and after stating it was me calling again he said oh yeah I forgot to call you back. Did John talk to his manager? IDK. He said that they would have to mail me a check and that it was take 2-3 weeks to receive it. Did John confirm my information such as my mailing address or anything... NO. John called me back a while later and asked for my address. I asked if there was any way I could receive a refund in person since he first mentioned that I'd most likely need to go in person for the refund. John said he didn't have authorization for that and that I could speak to his manager. I asked if he could speak to his manager and let him know everything that's been going and and if he could make an exception and he said he already spoke to him and that he said this is not what they do and that I would receive a check in the mail. Please avoid this place they do not care about you or your car. Oh yeah and to top it off they refused to give my husband a ride home because we live in Grover. And the last time in April they agreed to give him a ride home and he waited a d waited and no one gave him a ride. They said they thought he asked to get picked up. Like hello ! These people don't even know what they are doing and clearly have extremely poor communication with their departments.

Sales Are Sales, But One Service Guy Stands Out…read more.... Sales: - Aside from "Financing": 4 - "Financing": 2 Service: - Advisor: 5 - Scheduling: 4 - Kept Up-To-Date: 5 - Prologue Software (it's a combined effort with GM): 3 - Waiting Area: 3 (almost always crowded) - Shuttle to Nearby Areas: 4 - Location of the Dealership: 5 This review actually covers 2 parts of the business: Sales and Service My wife and I owned several Hondas over the years and, since I wanted to get an EV in June 2024, I bought a Prologue Touring model. The salesman, who I believe is no longer at the dealership, was reasonable. In fact, all the people I met seemed "reasonable". Of course, maybe that's just the nature of most employees in sales. One incident still sticks in my craw. Right before I finalized the paperwork, my sales guy said he just heard from the "top brass" that in order to immediately claim my tax credit of $7,500...I needed to finance "part of the purchase price". Otherwise, I'd get that $7,500 when I filed taxes in 2025. I was ready, willing and able to simply write a check for the full price, but they said "you'll need to finance around $20,000 of the $62,000 total. Just pay it off after the 1st month. The cost to you will be about $80". It was and I did.....although that seemed like a smarmy way to make extra money from people who fail to pay it off. Now for the better news. My Prologue ran well, didn't have any problems and was a really great experience to drive from June 2024 until October 2025. At that time, parts of the large dashboard started to go blank and error messages began to pop up. The car still rode well, but I wanted to know "what's up". On November 4th, the Service Department said I needed software updates and tried every way possible to get that done, but nothing worked. They determined - together with Honda USA Headquarters in LA - that new "communication hardware" had to be installed. Unfortunately, that wouldn't arrive until December 23rd. Sunset Honda offered a free rental from Hertz, but indicated I'd need to leave my Prologue on their lot for 6 weeks until the part arrived. I declined and kept the car so it could be parked in my garage each night. The hardware did arrive on December 23rd, but since installation could be a multi day process, I scheduled it for December 30th with a pickup on January 6th (I live 35 minutes away). They gave me a loaner from their lot for that week. Everything has been fine since then. I got a recall notice in mid March 2026 to install 11 software updates, but when I brought my Prologue in they discovered it only 1 because of previous work on the car. Through it all - everything - I've had a really great Service Advisor.....Matt Simpson. Matt understood. Back on November 4th 2025, you could almost see the pain on his face when he had to break the news news that each attempt to download new software failed. He seemed to do everything within his control to cushion the blow with each visit in November, December and January 2026. The other Service Advisors at Sunset Honda might be great, but I'd ask for Matt Simpson.

I have an extended warranty, and I was explicitly told by a Subaru employee that they would be willing to work with my warranty company, so I trusted them to handle the situation. When I arrived, I was greeted by a rude staff member who spoke down to me and was incredibly dismissive of my concerns. I was understandably worried about the possibility of needing a full engine replacement, but I was assured they would take care of it. I called every day for four days asking for updates and whether they had contacted my warranty company. Each time, I got vague answers that they were "in the process" of working with the warranty. After leaving my car there for two full weeks, I found out that no repairs had been performed at all. No one ever called to approve work, no one told me my car did not qualify, and no one even contacted me to tell me to pick it up. When I spoke with my warranty company, I was told there is NO RECOND THAT SUBARU EVER REACHED OUT. The man named Jim, or possibly Jeff, at the Subaru service center was especially dismissive and unprofessional. I left two voicemails requesting an update after they had had the car for over a week and had to threaten speaking with a manager to get a callback. The whole experience made me feel ignored and brushed aside, and it was especially upsetting as a young college-aged woman trying to get help with a serious car problem. I would not trust this service center.
