She was clear about managing our expectations without being condescending, unlike every other jeweler we'd met up to that point. My husband and I purchased my original engagement ring from Jean Dousset and loved it, which is why we trusted them again for an upgrade. This was supposed to be my forever ring and a really special experience for us. I received the upgraded ring on June 25 and was immediately devastated. The setting was much bulkier than expected, the craftsmanship was disappointing, and the ring was visibly crooked. I contacted Jean Dousset THAT SAME DAY asking to return it. This was not buyer's remorse weeks later--I knew the moment I opened the box that this was not the ring I expected or wanted. Despite contacting them immediately, I did not receive a substantive response until July 9, when I was essentially told no. I then sent photos documenting the issues, including the crooked setting, and followed up two more times with no response. On July 16, I was told my concerns would be passed to corporate. I then waited until August 3 for a meaningful response. Their solution? I could return the upgraded ring, but receive NO REFUND on the nearly $10,000 total involved. They would simply return my original ring--the ring we had ALREADY purchased from Jean Dousset years earlier for close to $6,000. To be clear: their proposed resolution to an upgrade I rejected the SAME DAY I received it was to return my own previously purchased ring to me while providing no refund for the upgrade. That was the point at which I truly felt taken advantage of as a client. I do want to distinguish the individual client care team from the company itself. The representatives I dealt with, although often delayed in their responses, were kind, understanding, and very helpful to me, and I understand that the ultimate decisions were outside of their control. My issue is with the heart of the company and the decisions being made above them. In my experience, when there was an opportunity for Jean Dousset as a company to stand behind its craftsmanship and prioritize a longtime client over policy and profit, it chose not to. The communication issues have also continued. Last week, after months of this, I specifically asked to speak directly with corporate. I was told the appropriate person was out but would contact me the following week. It is now Friday of that following week, and I have heard NOTHING. Most incredibly, I sent Jean Dousset my original engagement ring in MAY. It is now mid-September, and I STILL DO NOT HAVE A RING. I was patient, kind, and understanding throughout this process. But when someone spends this amount of money on an incredibly sentimental piece of jewelry, receives something she believes has clear craftsmanship issues, and contacts the company the very day it arrives, I would expect concern and a genuine effort to make it right--not months of delays and rigid adherence to policy. The saddest part is that I loved my original Jean Dousset ring. We came back because we trusted this company and were excited to have them create my forever ring. Instead, this experience has taken the joy out of something that meant so much to me. After this experience, we will never purchase from Jean Dousset again. I cannot recommend trusting this company with a purchase this expensive or sentimental. In my experience, when something went wrong, protecting the company and its policies came before taking care of the client. Whether this was intentional or the result of a severe lack of attention to detail, the conduct was egregious and unacceptable.
