This hardware store is amazing. Small, but seems like they have anything you may need. I was surprised at the amount of merchandise they had. Went in there for a specific shut off valve, got exactly what I needed and the gentleman that helped me was very knowledgeable about the part I was looking for. I will be coming back to this store to find the things I need. Nothing but industry professionals here. Customer service at its finest. It breaks my heart to have to give such a bad review because I love to help the little independent local businesses, but the way I was treated by one person here (every time I come in over many days) is just inexcusable. And I fear he may be the owner which is a shame because the only consequences he will have to experience are some bad reviews and loss of business. First of all, there are other guys that work here who are wonderful and are helpful. One guy has long gray hair and is helpful. Another older gentlemen who has more gray hair, and genuinely likes to help. Then there there is an awful guy with salt and pepper hair, not as much gray as the other guy. You can't miss him because of the scowl on his face and cloud of negative energy that surrounds him. He seems to truly hate his customers! A few day ago I came in to get some screws & I didn't know what I was looking for & needed some help. He pointed to an aisle with hundreds of drawers with various nuts bolts and sizes and said "It's over there". We were literally the only 2 people in the store. I went over and was immediately overwhelmed and confused and asked him to help me. With all the passive aggressive energy inside him he came over, pointed to a couple of drawers and said "you can find it in these drawers. This is why I set this up so you can find it yourself" (there were 8 different sized screws in each drawer) He didn't even look at me to see if I was okay or still needed help but immediately turned around and almost made an exclamation as he blew me off and walked away without ever looking back at me. I also didn't have my glasses because I'm used to the guys who help me grab exactly what I'm asking for without me having to check them. Needless to say, I had a challenging time finding what I needed. After struggling for about 10 minutes I found the very small nut and screw and took them up to him at the counter. I later found out that these run about .35 cents apiece, but he rang nothing up and said "that will be $2". I didn't say anything, but I was astonished and thinking "Wow! a dollar apiece for this tiny screw and nut - they don't need a gun to rob you these days." I got no receipt either. A few days later I came back because I was installing a ceiling fan and didn't know what size a few of the screws were, so I had to get multiple sizes to see which size worked. The gentleman with long gray hair helped me grab 5 bags of different sized screws. (and surprising, the receipt verified that they were, in fact $.35 cents each - I knew it!) I called before coming in and asked and then asked again but I explained my situation and asked if I could return the screws I didn't need and both times it was confirmed that I could. So later I brought back the ones I didn't need and wanted to grab a few more of a different size to try. The other older gentleman with mostly white hair was about to help me when the angry man said "I can help you, it's over here". So he never once looked at me, led me back to the same aisle, opened a drawer, turned and walked away from me without saying a word or giving me the help he offered. And then I went to the counter to check out and I set my bags of screws down and said I needed to return these and in a very snarky and condescending tone he snapped "We do do partial returns!!" I said, "What? You don't do returns?" And he said "NO - you can't return these" and then smirked. I then said "I was told twice, that if I got these to see which ones work that I could return the rest. I called, and I think I actually talked to you. And then I was told again when I bought these." He shook his head with smug anger and disbelief, never looked me in the eye after that and didn't say another word as if to silently scorn me and shame me for having the audacity to challenge him. He set my money down without ever looking up at me, turned and again walked away as if to say "I'm not even gonna look at you". Ok, first of all sir, I come here to your store because I believe in supporting small local businesses. I also come because of the friendly, helpful service of the guys who have been working here for so many decades and genuinely want to help people! I can go to Home Depot and get ignored or helped by people who have no knowledge of what I'm asking about just as easy as I can here in your store. But at Home Depot, I won't pay near as much as you're charging and they will at least treat me with respect, dignity and at least pretend to care about me and what I need. So if you wonder why your business is dwindling? It is because of your seething anger at the world in general and your sour demeanor, your inflated prices and your propensity to gouge people who look like they don't know any better. But is especially because of your arrogant, condescending lack of care and compassion, and for trying to make people feel stupid and insignificant. I just went and bought some spray paint. The spray paint did not work so took it back. The worker was so mad, took it outside, and as I dripped all over the place told me it worked. I told him no it doesn't work. I need another one. He hurries in and gives me my money back and tell me to go away. Do not give this store your business! I bought a craftsman hand tool from Ace Hardware. When, I picked up, it did not work. I was told me a new one would be ordered for exchange and to pick up on Friday. I went to pick up and was told by Sam the manager, Ace wouldn't refund my money, was very indigent, told me he would throw it in the trash and told me I was getting on his nerves. On multiple visits, I have tried to ask simple questions of the people working there but can never get a complete answer, and have had to buy things elsewhere or do further research myself to get the proper response. Their selection leaves a lot to be desired - on a recent visit when looking for a flathead driver bit for my drill, was told they don't carry the 4 inch size because nobody uses it these days (an appalling statement...). I can see how I personally could improve in communicating my thoughts when trying to converse with the people trying to help, but 2/3 times i've had a question the response has been clueless, pedantic, or sarcastic. I hope to never have to visit this particular store again, and if I do, I should hope I don't need a professional opinion of any kind. read more

I am a big fan of Culver City Industrial Hardware. I've been going there for years. The "screw wall" alone is worth the trip. The place is not glitzy like Home Depot. This place sucks. Staff is useless and rude. One of their staff members advised me to buy incorrect items that didn't work for my needs, and then they refused my returning of the items despite having a receipt and the parts being immaculate, unused and in their original packaging. The actual name of this place is Culver Industrial Hardware. Just sayin'... Go here all the time for various items. Today I needed a lock box for my back door. I lock myself out about once or twice a year so the lock box is essential. Put in a key, when you need it, input the code number and the box opens. They're not cheap -- over $20. Today, I only needed 8qty rivet nuts and 8qty screws size 10-24. A middle-aged man helped me and charged $20.99 ($1.39 per rivet nut, .99c per screw + tax). It seemed extremely high, so I questioned it. He said it was correct. Since I was rushing to an appointment, I thought, although high, maybe it was acceptable (?) so I chose to pay the amount, and would look into it asap. After some quick research, I came back an hour later. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and mentioned that I thought he may have accidentally overcharged me, he said he didn't. When I stated I wanted to return them, he said there was a 20% restocking fee. Really?! I asked where on the receipt it stated that amount (nothing). He directed my attention to a sign in the store, which said 10%. I pointed that out, he hesitantly came around to confirm, acted puzzled, quickly said they raised it to 20%, but grumbly honored the 10%. While processing the return, I told him that I found a bag of 100qty rivet nuts selling in many places online for $10. He shot back an attitude like "so"? Now, I don't mind an upcharge for an individual piece, especially at a local business, but 14x more (& .99c for one screw)?! In my opinion, restocking fees are often absurd, especially on already overpriced items, with no repacking needed, etc, but fine. And finally, just zero concern for customer satisfaction, his attitude from start to finish was off putting. I never leave reviews, but this exchange bothered me enough to do so. After reading several here, sadly, I'm not the only one with a disappointing, overpriced experience. I'm also joining the others who won't be coming back. read more

I witnessed the manager being rude to his staff by making comments that showed impatience and disrespect for his staff. In addition, he was rude to me. I asked where I could find a certain product. He instructed me where the product could be found. When I told him that I couldn't find the product, he started to yell at me and made comments, to the effect, that he couldn't understand how I couldn't find the product. A very well stocked store . Some of the help are extremely friendly and helpful, others think they're doing you a favor by taking your money ~ _WRONG_ . When I went to pay, the manager charged me $1.09 per foot. I told him that I was advised I was quoted .79 . He told me the staff was wrong and refused Original quote. VERY RUDE. Abra who is the locksmith and also wears other hats is fantastic. Very helpful and super competent. He managed to program my smart key fob when my mechanic who had a machine that was designed to do so, couldn't. Also his price was half at least of the Toyota dealer. Best hardware store around. Ive been going here for ten years or more since the hardware closer to me closed. The guys have good knowledge in most departments. An unbeatable selection of bolts. Most bolts at home depot are grade 2 and will break, Culver hardware has better quality and every type of bolt. Super selection of tools, plumbing and electrical supplies. I took a friend there and he commented " boy, if it's not here, you don't need it". I've always had great help from the staff. I was really disappointed with my experience here. I had ordered something online at the end of December, and I was going to pick it up in mid-January. I knew that I was picking it up late, but I called them before I went to make sure that it was there. The person told me - Of course it's here! We wouldn't send it back! When I arrived, the item was NOT there, and they asked me to come back the next week. I don't live near this Ace, so this is a big challenge. They blamed it on all the orders being sent back, which doesn't make any sense because they would have had many upset customers. Oh my! This store has got to be every man's fantasy. Tools tools tools! So many nails - from top to bottom. I'm sure every woman wishes her man kept his nails as organized as this place, labeled by name and size. Fiancee and I were able to find the right nails very quickly, for $0.69 a piece. Quick and easy trip, and the guy at the counter was helpful in pointing us in the right direction. Culver City Industrial Hardware has everything Marshall's had and a lot of old time esoteric hardware items too. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful. Most importantly they know where everything is. Stuff is packed in pretty tight in this place. Don't waste a lot of time trying to find it by yourself. Just ask they'll tell you exactly where it is. If you're a maker or a builder, a geek or construction worker this is your place. Why drive all the way to a Lowe's or Home Depot? What a hassle! This is a small hardware store but it is jam packed with inventory. It reminds me of a workshop that would belong to a mad tinkerer. The only thing missing is a bunch of cuckoo clocks mounted on the back wall. They have an extremely large inventory of nuts, bolts, screws, washers etc. If you need some kind of obscure size this is the place to get it. If you are looking for more common items that would be at your local home depot then it would just depend on which one is more convenient. read more

In time of need for supplies and when people need to help people and watch out for one another these guys are selling own branded mask 800% markup a .65 cent mask for $6.50 and a .85 cent mask for $9.00 if you do the math that is basically $140.00 to $180.00 for a box of twenty. How is that not taking advantage of the situation. We have people sick in the hospitals and elders at home because of shortages of mask and gloves and these guys are selling own brand mask that are probably not even certified or cleared for accuracy. Came in to get neem oil for my plants and only after traversing the cramped shelves, I finally found it. I know it's an ace hardware but step up your shelving game. Couldn't find anything and on top of that there were rat droppings near the pest control cages. Luckily I had taken a picture of my sink and showed it to one of the employees here. He just happened to be a retired plumber! Great place to find small screws! Came in after running around Home Depot, orchard hardware, and hardware freight all within a couple miles between them: no one helped me like they did here. No one bothered to help me like they did here. At Home Depot I got the usual head shake of confusion and same with the other two spots. I've been many many times, and I can remember once they didn't have exactly what I needed. Most recently I needed a weirdly-small (M2.5-45x25) metric machine screw, and when five minutes at the bins didn't find anything, the clerk went to the "weird-screw" box and found one that fit in another two minutes...and then wouldn't even take any money for his time, insisted I take the screw gratis. They're insanely well-stocked with hard to find things, all the clerks know what they have and how to find it in an old-school overcrowded store, and I just couldn't be happier that they exist. read more
