I didn't have the worse first visit to culvers but not exactly great. So I've always wanted to try this place and had no idea they were so close. I went through the drive thru and it moved along pretty fast. Impressive imo. I ordered 2 burgers, 2 fries, 2 small shakes, 2 of the cheese curds and 2 cheese dips. I paid and then was given a number to hang off my door handle as to wait a little further down. They came out within 3 mins I'd say. Handed my small shakes and guy read off the items and I headed home. I get home and no burgers or cheese dip. I called and spoke to a manager. She states they didn't do it proper and gave me options. She gave me two value baskets for then or later in the day. I came later around dinner time and was given the meals. No cheese dip still but I didn't care anymore. My main experience story over lol. I love crinkle fries. So glad this place has that. The shakes are good. I didn't try anything crazy. Cheese curds are fine, but not melty types. I think curds don't melt? Not sure. Now one of the burgers I ate was the mushroom swiss one. Wow so tasty. I think double is the way to go for any of the burgers. At least for non kids. The burgers are not thick so just my preference. Being a gal from the Midwest, I was thrilled to see a Culver's restaurant come to Knoxville! My husband & I just got back in town & found it swamped on a Wednesday evening at 6:50 PM! It was extremely busy inside, too but people didn't seem to mind the wait for their food. I asked one guy if he had been there before & he had. Since its only been open 8 days that's telling that he was already back from Maryville, none the less! I've worked in food service before & although there were a few mistakes, it is too be expected when they were so overwhelmed. You could tell that they were all trying very hard to serve their customers well. Anyway, the food was great, as always! I got a 6 piece shrimp dinner with onion rings, coleslaw & I upgraded my drink to a root beer float! Their root beer is delicious! Not only were they quick to offer a drink carrier for all my drinks but when I came back for my missing meal they volunteered to cook it fresh ( it was about a 40 minute commute to come back for it). I went thru drive thru on their second day. Although the line was long, they were extremely patient and friendly while I waited my turn to review their menu. Once I paid for my order, I was given a number and asked to pull around the corner to wait. I received my Oreo Concrete Mixer immediately and it was delicious! Thick and creamy custard with a delicious consistency and flavor. The restaurant manager was unloading a delivery and stopped to deliver the rest of my food with a smile. Not one employee looked frazzled. I was very impressed with their attitude and grace under pressure. This is a very rare occurrence with a brand spanking new restaurant. Few things are as good as you remember.... My husband and I lived in Austin for six years and Culver's was our mainstay for frozen custard during the hot summers. We did have a better burger option (Hut's downtown) but for a quick fix near home, nothing beat their butter burgers. Didn't see much of the interior for the sheer mass of people. Despite the huge lines, we got our burgers and frozen treats within about ten minutes. The staff were polite, helpful, and friendly as always. The burgers and fries were pretty much what we remembered. Culver's is one of the top of the fast-food burger and fry pyramid. The bread was fresh, the meat tasty and moist, tomatoes were ripe and juicy and the onions crispy. Fries were crispy and delightful too. And the custard -- oh my yes. We got pumpkin in honor of the season and you could tell there was real pumpkin in the concrete mix. Plus, the ingredients for my pumpkin gingerbread were mixed clear through. The best burgers in the Midwest come to East Tennessee and I for one am very happy! I finally got by a week or so after the opening and even at 3 PM on a Saturday afternoon the place was packed to capacity from parking lot, to the counter and seating as well. For my first 'new' visit I went with the standard Butter Burger and fries with Culver's in-house root beer and was not disappointed. We've been here a few times since they opened. The food has been spot on and the employees are delightful. There were some new restaurant snafus but that's to be expected and they handled them very well. I know last Sunday was especially stressful on them, but we had a good lunch and were happy.
