    Coleslaw from cod dinner
    Doug M.

Stopped by for a takeout order of their Cod dinner and kids cheeseburger with fries and a soft drink. The cheeseburger went over well, the fries needed a little salt and the diet root beer reminds of A&W, tasty, yep I snuck a few sips prior to coming home with the order. I ordered the cod dinner with fries and comes with coleslaw, which I saved for later. I spaced on getting a picture but it was tasty, and due to the Lenten season I figured that the fish would have a big turn over so it would be fresh and not fishy tasting. I was right, it was a nicely cooked piece of fish that wasn't fishy tasting. However, I don't much fried food and I think that could be the reason why my body prompted me to the bathroom a few times about 20 minutes after finishing the meal. Other than that, the service prompt and the wait was not long at all for an early lunch. Remember, they cook their burgers from fresh meat, so it is well worth the wait for a quality product. We will be back, although I might skip the fish next time.

    Where's the Oreo?

I've been hearing some things about Yelp as a whole. Rumor has it that Yelp purposely deletes the good reviews from businesses to sabotage them. I used to think that this is dumb, but I'm starting to think that it might be true. Culver's is a good restaurant! Sure, they have their off days, but everybody does! You can't expect them to be perfect all the time. It's a good restaurant and it deserves a try. The only problem I had on this particular day is the flavor of the day. It was cookies and cream. I got hardly any Oreo, only the crumbs were mixed in. This isn't typical, so I'm putting it aside and giving this Culver's 4 stars.

I finally tried Culvers. I ordered a cheeseburger, the worst one I ever had. The meat was burnt and looked all shriveled up. NOT HAPPY.

I ended up getting the Gelato Cake Batter and Southern Caramel Pecan. The others in our group came up with their own amazing combinations. The counter with all the toppings was well stocked and organized, making it easy to put together whatever combination you wanted. I grabbed a bunch of different toppings, with most of my choices somehow involving chocolate. All three of our cups ended up filled with an assortment of yummy ingredients. Service: There was one employee there who seemed to be taking care of customers while also keeping the serving and dining areas clean. I would say they were efficient, but not especially chatty or friendly. Atmosphere: The place is well designed. It's easy to figure out the process for making your own dessert, and there are lots of different areas for sitting. Big windows let in plenty of natural light and make the space feel open and inviting. One thing that really stood out was the number of signs mentioning that the premises are being monitored by cameras. Even in the bathroom, there was a sign saying that if teenagers are suspected of vandalism, the cameras may be used to identify them. It made me wonder if this location has been dealing with issues involving younger customers. There wasn't any trouble while we were there, but all of the signs definitely made an impression. Overall, this is a good place to go for a delicious frozen yogurt treat. I would definitely come back and try another dishful.

Food: We got the Bacon Cheeseburger, Junior Cheeseburger, and a side combo of fries and onion rings. They make the burgers to order, so they took a while, but they were fresh and hot when they arrived. The patty was cooked to about medium, which was okay, but for a smashburger, it would have been better to leave it on the grill a bit longer to develop those nice crispy, lacy edges. The additional lettuce, tomato, and onion were generously portioned and fresh. Service: The staff was super friendly. The person who took our order was cheerful, helpful, and professional. Atmosphere: When first driving into the lot, what you notice is a very uncared-for, weedy front patio area. It's not very inviting, and nobody was sitting there. The parking lot pavement could use some refreshing as well. Overall, the exterior is a bit depressing. Inside, however, the restaurant is well lit, clean, and has a friendly atmosphere. You could tell there were lots of regulars catching up with friends and having pleasant conversations. Glad we stopped in.

The "best" local place that was open in January was The Chocolate Chisel. My family and I stopped and each got a cone. I also got three truffles. The truffles I bought were chai tea milk, experimint milk (ganache with peppermint extract), and peppermint hot chocolate. The chai tea and experimint milk truffles both tasted like they should based on their descriptions, but I wouldn't wantto buy either again. The peppermint hot chocolate had some crushed peppermint on top, but other than the chocolate being in the shape of a mug, nothing about it reminded me of hot chocolate. Ultimately I don't think any of them were worth the price. The ice cream was lackluster. Both of my kids got cookies and cream in a cake cone and thought it was skimpy on the cookies part. My wife and I sprung for waffle cones with ours and were both disappointed in the excessive cone to ice cream ratio that heavily favored the cone. She got plain chocolate and it was fine. I, however, got banana-rama and ended up throwing it out because it tasted more like butter pecan than anything banana related. I even went back inside and verified with the employee that it wasn't mislabeled in the case.

When we first arrived, the restaurant was not busy. Only a couple other tables occupied, so expectations were fairly high for a smooth experience. Unfortunately, things quickly went downhill. The food took quite a while to come out despite how slow it was. When it finally did, it was first delivered to the wrong table before eventually making its way to us. The food runner then randomly grabbed a ranch from our table and brought it to another table. He seemed potentially new, but overall the service felt very disorganized and clueless, especially considering the restaurant wasn't busy. We ordered the cheese curds to start, and they were disappointing. The breading was mushy and extremely greasy, and the cheese itself tasted low quality rather than the fresh curds you'd expect at a Wisconsin pub. We also ordered several wing flavors since they were on special: garlic parm, buffalo, bourbon BBQ, and lemon pepper. One issue right away was the lack of flavor variety overall on the menu. The wings themselves were inconsistent. Sizes varied dramatically, which clearly affected the cook quality. Some were fried so hard they were like chewing leather, while others had soggy, undercooked skin. Flavor wise the buffalo were almost completely flavorless. The lemon pepper was extremely mild. The garlic parm was probably the best of the group, though still just average. The bourbon BBQ was rough. The sauce tasted like an overly sweet, overly salty cheap jarred glaze rather than an actual house-made BBQ sauce. My wife ordered the Mary Mac burger without a bun and was told extra lettuce leaves could be substituted to make it a lettuce wrap. Instead, it came out with just shredded lettuce. The burger itself was overcooked and lacking flavor. The fries were decent enough, but nothing memorable. Overall, this felt like a place with potential that just missed the mark on both execution and consistency during our visit.

Signage outside indicated that they have fish fry on Wednesday night so that was a plus for me. He had a water street melt with chips and fried cheese sticks. He asked for his burger to be cooked medium. The menu indicated his burger had onion spread on it. His burger was not cooked medium but well done. The onion spread was a "sauce overload" and not a pleasant addition to the melt. The cheese sticks were wrapped in a won ton wrap and deep fried. They were served with a marinara. The cheese sticks could have used some type of seasoning to give them flavor. Very bland. I had the fish fry special of fried perch. Mild fishy flavor and definitely frozen. Thin crumb breading that had some type of seasoning. I choose fries, coleslaw, and rye toast. The fries and toast were the best parts. I wanted tartar sauce for my fish but it was so sweet that it wasn't good with the fish. Service was fine. She needed to leave before us and asked if we wanted to close our ticket. We didn't plan on staying as we're traveling so we closed it out. Location was easy to find. Bar area was clean.
