There seems to be a lot of good, bad, and indifferent reviews of The Barn, so we decided to try it out. Cute updated Barn converted to a restaurant. Full bar, indoor and outdoor seating. We sat inside this visit as it recently rained and was still wet outside. Updated hours so the open up at 12 Friday and Saturday, 10-4 on Sundays. Wednesday and Thursday 4-9. We were greeted by friendly staff and seated quickly. Ordered the "Smokey Margarita" mezcal replaces the tequila and a tahine rim, very delicious. Ordered the RI Stuffies. Quahog, chorizo and cornbread, interesting and comforting. I got the cilantro lime fried chicken sandwich with fries. Sandwich is delicious and the fries are crispy. The coleslaw on the sandwich make it tough to eat and a bit messy, but still good. Michele got the fish and chips. Their fryers are gluten free safe. So she was happy about that. All in all a great meal, wish my sandwich wasn't so runny with the Cole slaw. I would come back to try their pizza and other offerings. read more

Not sure what's happening here . Beautiful barn ( no air conditioning ) it is an old barn so that makes sense. The patio and grounds were really nice. The staff were great but the food ,was awful so bad and it was not cheap either. The pizza was burnt and so thin it was like a tortilla with dried up cheese and minimal dried out basil. The fried chicken sandwich was supposed to be lime and cilantro but it was a dried out piece of chicken with some coleslaw? ( maybe left over from the night before and heated )I don't know it was all inedible we ended up throwing it out after one bite of each . The fries were the only thing that was edible but for $11.00 they should be . We had done take out as it was too hot to sit outside or inside. Would have sent it all back had I eaten there. This place has such a great vibe. Very casual. Several nights a week they have live music, either in the bar, or on the deck. The barn has big wide open garage doors overlooking a large grassy yard area and pond outside. Inside has a mix of tables, high top bar tables, and bar seating. The outside has a mix of tables on a large back deck, and picnic tables. They even have some lawn games. Very family friendly place. The menu is simple, think burgers, pizza, pasta, fries, and some appetizers and salads They have a full bar and cocktail menu. The food is good, the service is friendly...except for some teenagers who need a little more customer service training, but they are young and haven't been coached enough yet. For example...the teenage hostess, before even saying hello, good evening, welcome, asked us if we had a reservation, without a shred of a smile. We said no, and she walked us to a table, at which time we decided to sit at the bar for better view of the outside space, and slightly further from the live music. Keep in mind there is no air conditioning. The evening we went it was hot. We sat at the bar, and the sun was to my back through the open garage doors. It was so beautiful, and although there were fans, they didn't do much to cool it off. I love the heat so I didn't mind. I really like the vibe here...very casual, beautiful rustic setting. My husband and I had a gift certificate and decided to try it for lunch on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. As many other reviews have stated, the barn itself inside has a nice ambiance. The owner was the only person taking orders and serving. After being served, at least 45 minutes after placing our orders, on paper plates, she disappeared into the kitchen. Waited 20 minutes into our meal to ask for salt and pepper. She brought them over while talking on her cell phone, and my husband had to show her his empty glass to order a refill....which came 15 minutes later. So, in a nutshell, disappointing.....not great food, not great service. Will not be returning. read more

This is located in a more residential area, so I feel like many haven't discovered it, unless you live nearby or have attended an event. The inside is a beautifully decorated barn. It would be such a charming little spot to have a special birthday party or a rehearsal dinner. The outside had seating on the deck and the backyard had picnic tables, corn hole boards and a fire pit. It would be a great place to bring your kids so they could get their wiggles out, while you had a better meal than you'd find at the McDonald's playhouse. After ordering, our waitress returned to our table to let us know that she had actually given us an old menu. My friend was bummed to find out that what she ordered was no longer available and she'd need to make a different selection. Although the dish I wanted wasn't on the current menu, they still had the ingredients, with the exception of a different cut of steak, so they still whipped it up for me. The steak was cooked exactly how I requested it (medium). The mashed potatoes were clearly made in-house and were a nice consistency. This is a beautiful hidden gem! We went this Sunday for their new Sunday brunch buffet and so glad we did! Do not miss this! All you can eat eggs Benedict, scrambled eggs with red peppers, asparagus, onions, AMAZING French toast with blackberry compote and mascarpone cheese, breakfast meats, salad, potato salad, penne with large shrimp, roasted tomatoes, and artichoke hearts, among other items. I have eaten here for dinner once before and the food was also very good. The ambiance is a 12 out of 10! Gorgeous renovated barn. They have a different nightly band during the week and on nice days, you can sit outside out back or on their deck. The service has been very good each time I've been there with friendly and attentive waitstaff. The parking makes it look busy as cars are often parked up the street, but don't let that deter you, as many of the cars seem to be for employees or pick up for Milly's skillet next door. read more

Ordered a $30 dollar pizza consisting of a blob or uncooked dough, perhaps two sliced mushrooms, and half the cheese one would normally see on a normal pizza, let alone the fact I ordered "extra" cheese. And to top it off a snarky attitude manager/bartender. Arrived for book club and loved the space with the folksy touches like grape vines on the ceiling, lilacs and rosemary on the tables, and the rustic rafters. The outside also looked quite inviting and seems like it would be a nice space to hang out. So space = 5 stars. Food and service, really 2 stars at most compared to the last 6 months of service at various restaurants around Portland. The sever was very pleasant, but seemed to be quite green and yet she was training another server who never spoke. - When I asked the lead server for a gin and tonic, and asked what gin they had, she said "oh, there's a lot - Beefeater, Hendricks and ... Bacardi". ?! - We had been there for about 45 minutes when we were told "happy hour is about to end - did we want to order happy hour?" This was the first we were hearing about happy hour! ... I did remark that it would've been helpful to know about happy hour specials when we arrived, at HAPPY HOUR, not an hour later ... So we listen to the specials as "happy hour" is about to expire, and were presented with a "happy hour spicy margarita for $5", described in detail, which most of the table ordered, only to have the server come back and say, "they decided not to do the spicy margarita for happy hour." I proposed that since that was what we were "sold" and ordered that, that should be honored, but it fell on deaf ears and instead we paid double + for cocktails. - Most of the table ordered the $10 happy hour pizza, which despite being cooked in a wood fired oven, lacked flavor and was only a step above frozen pizza. One of us had inedible charred crusts on a few pieces. Definitely a large portion for the happy hour price of $10, but nowhere near the quality of any restaurant pizza I've had in 2022, and if I had paid the non-happy hour price of $17, I would've been outraged. - When we asked for to go containers, the server returned with big pizza boxes, which she said were folded inside out. Apparently this was to stamp the Milly's Skillet logo on the box, but it just made the box not hold together well and the stamped logo wasn't very visible anyway. - When it came time to pay the bill, I appreciated the convenience of being able to process the payment directly at the table, and that the server had made separate checks for all of us, but as the iPad was circulated around, with each of us signing with our fingers, I questioned the sanitation of processing payment this way. Very easy to transfer germs, and there is still COVID going around... - There was someone who appeared to be supervising, but she really seemed ineffectual. For example she took a carafe of water that was 3/4 full and topped it off, checked in a couple of times, but only in the manner of "everything is good, isn't it?" without waiting for response. When we left, she was chasing ducks out of the parking lot, and overall seemed to be quite distracted. Trust me when I say that we "WANT" to love this place! We have been here many, many times over the last several years and it continues to fail in various areas. My husband and I have never had a palatable cocktail here. What a fail! Who wants to go out for cocktails and dinner only to receive unpalatable cocktails? The pork tacos that are currently on the menu are nothing like the ones that were on the original menu. This used to be our absolute favorite and we would go out of our way to order these every chance we got. But...then they changed chefs and the tacos were and have been terrible ever since. It is incredibly disappointing as the space itself (inside) isn't too bad and the outside space is amazing. I wish that they could get their bartenders, servers and chef on the same page. read more

This was our first visit here, but it definitely will not be our last. We chose to sit indoors, but there is a sprawling lawn with picnic tables, as well as a gorgeous deck. The ambiance was very warm with flowers and a candle on every table and beautiful string lights and vines running along the ceiling. We ordered the chicken eggrolls, the brussel sprouts, and the mussels to start. All of them came out promptly and were delicious. For dinner we both ordered the bistro steak, which was amazing. We really liked that the menu offered both upscale entrees as well as some more casual bar food. It really allows the guests to enjoy their food and restaurant for a variety of different occasions. Our server, Mackenzie, was amazing. She was so welcoming and kind without overdoing it. She managed to anticipate everything we would need, without us having to ask. We also had a really positive interaction with the manager who was not only doing her rounds to check in with the tables, but was running around assisting all her staff with bussing tables/refilling waters/etc. After dinner we enjoyed a pumpkin espresso martini which was delicious and very on theme for the season. Loved this place! I'm up from NC visiting friends and I'm so glad they brought me here! Very kind genuine staff. We were lucky to get a reservation. I really liked sitting up stairs bc we could hear the love music well but could still talk. The server suggested a fantastic hibiscus cider for me that I thoroughly enjoyed. The Brussel sprouts appetizer was terrific and flavorful. The pesto mushroom pizza is excellent and there is a really wood fired stove outside! My friend got the fish and chips which was a very generous portion and well made. I would happily return to try more options because the menu was full of delicious sounding dishes. read more

We were lured into a false advertisement for Mother's Day Brunch 2023. A picture of a bountiful buffet was displayed including Mimosa's for $45 per person and $15 per person for all Mom's and Kids. This is all fake and simply a bate and switch con. When I called for the reservation, I was not asked if I wanted indoor or outdoor seating for my party of 7. The line to get in was out the door and not moving. I am 70 and have limited mobility, allergies and it was windy and cold outside. They put us at a picnic table outside with no umbrella, tablecloth, silverware or napkins and self serve water in plastic cups. The so called buffet was primarily picked over plates of unappealing food that was cold and dried out due to the amount of time it was sitting out. We had to asked for plates and silverware. The bulk of the so called buffet was inexpensive bread items. No fresh fruits or vegetables. One undercooked type of beef, unappealing eggs and cold potatoes and a pasta salad that had been sitting out too long. I did not want to risk food poisoning. The staff were arguing loudly with one another about who was supposed to be handling the different customer services. It was chaos! I and many other people were voicing their displeasure and demanding their money back. This is Mother's Day and this should not have happened. After speaking to a very young girl who said she was the manager, she had the owner come out. She was tired, angry and unprofessional and was completely overwhelmed by all the negative comments from most of the patrons. She told me the advertisement was incorrect and she wasn't in business to give free food or alcohol away. She then told me to back off in a very threatening manner. We left along with another large party who was disgruntled. The saddest part is that we were there to celebrate 3 generations on Mother's Day and all we got was a very bad memory. My grandchildren were very confused and we left there hungry. I say "Shame On You to this restaurant" !!!! Buyer beware and I hope we don't end up with food poisoning. The 1 star rating is just for the view out back. Everything else is a complete disaster. The health department should take a close look at this place. read more

I've been wanting to visit since I heard it was opening a year or so ago. I FINALLY made it in ... and am wishing I'd found it months ago! I LOVE the atmosphere here, the food, service, friendliness and attention to detail is outstanding! I'm strictly gluten free and (a couple other things not as common) and the options were few, but I LOVED the steak tip "sandwich" that was adapted to my needs with corn tortillas. On the cocktail menu is a drink that's a Rose Tea. Oh.my.gosh. I LOVE ROSE...and I had NO IDEA there was such thing as a rose liqueur. It was DELICIOUS! We went tonight, as a same day plan, because we saw there was live music and we'd never been! It's a seasonal place, so our time was limited. We sat at a high top and everyone was so friendly and helpful...the host, bartender, etc. We didn't go outside, because there was music inside, but we plan to return for happy hour (4-6pm, M-F) and enjoy sitting by the outside firepit! Their open hours are 4-9:00/10:00, M-F, with private functions Saturday and Sunday. I used to go to the original Smith Farm as a young girl with my grandmother. I'm only giving Smith Farms 3 stars because our server Mackenzie was so FANTASTIC!! My husband and I haven't been excited about excepting an invite to dinner here after several disappointing experiences. The meals are often disappointing, as was this last experience. I ordered a caprese flat bread thinking I was getting a pizza, not the case, I got a thick quesadilla with fries. This seemed very odd to me, perhaps they should indicate such things on their menu. I watched pizzas being cooked outside thinking that was my dinner, nope, if you want pizza you have to go to the "restaurant" next door, I wish I had known that. My husband ordered a burger, simple enough, medium rare, it arrived VERY well done, why ask a temp?? I'm sticking with my original review, Smith Farm has a lot to improve on. read more

Much to our surprise our usual, wonderful experience at the barn was marred by poor service. We waited 10 minutes for our server to acknowledge us. Once we ordered m, our meal came out promptly but our bar order was never delivered. When asked our server blamed that the bar was backed up.Mind you we'd ordered a soda, a glass of wine and a beer( can't you the server figure that one out?) Another 15 minutes and we'd finished our meal sans our drinks. After 10 minutes of waiting to get our servers attention we asked for our check. Another 15 minutes elapsed and we had to go up to the bar to get our check printed by another member of the staff. We were asked to wait to speak with the manager but after another 10 minutes elapsed we'd had enough waiting. Our food was delicious but the rest just spoiled a beautiful evening opportunity. Ps... just don't take tables if you're short staffed or at least warn your tables that you're running behind. I'd always prefer the transparency and given a chance we'd have just rescheduled our visit. read more

I checked this place out after looking at their Facebook posts. It's a seasonal restaurant and bar with local spirits and produce. I tried the Mainehatten cocktail with Liquid Riot Bourbon and absolutely loved it! The corn and chicken egg rolls were good but not $9 good. I was a bit disappointed in the paper containers as well for that price. Would still be interested in a full dinner and drinks sometime. They have to be incredible at these prices though! Whoah what a gem ! We got to go last night to smith farm on their last night. Too bad we discovered such an awesome spot on their last night but regardless it was SO GOOD. They operate as a function barn on the weekends so they are only open M-F usually May/June through Oct/Nov. They had blankets for event guests and I got to wrap myself up in one while I sipped wine and waited for my dinner. The ambiance is so charming. It's like the laid back vibe of fore side tavern but with the ambiance of granite estate barn in Norway. Multiple chandeliers and a cute sitting area upstairs as well, it's such an adorable spot! Also the FOOOOD. My lemony pounded chicken was So so good. The chicken was perfectly tender. Folks this is how you cook chicken. Also the pork tacos were filled with soft delicious meat and flavor. The egg rolls were also great. They had an all veggie lavender sautée I almost got but will have to wait for next year. Love this place! read more

I tried the place for the first time tonight with a party of 5. Great ambience, great live music, just a really cool place. We first placed an app order. They came out and were very good. A creative cheese plate and the best fries ever. We shortly thereafter placed main course orders. A salad, a fish and chips and three mixed grill orders. 90 minutes later - still no food. And our waitress could not predict when the food would leave the kitchen. So we left with no food. Now the waitresses were doing there best. But there were two servers for a large venue. Seating in the restaurant, on the deck and on the lawn. But they were hustling and doing their best. The issue was NO FOOD was leaving the kitchen. I have never seen such a large place with so little food being served. It was weird. And when our waitress asked for an ETA, the kitchen bit her head off. So we left with no food served. I really hope they get their act together. Because the ambience and location is awesome. But a restaurant needs to serve food (kind of obvious I guess) and they could not get any food out of the kitchen. Maybe they were short staffed. But then they should have turned customers away. And if you read Yelp or TripAdvisor reviews, this is their big problem and it has been for over a year. When you get food, it's sounds great by the reviews. But there are far too many people making posts like this. So I am now making French Toast on a Friday night because they were past 90 minutes with no forecast on when I would get something to eat. Tonight sucked. And I won't give them a second chance. read more
