The staff are incredibly friendly, and when I asked if they could prepare more Shepherd's pie I was happy to find they cooked up a new batch and I ordered all of them. Their whoopie pies are also a great treat for anyone with a sweet tooth. I must have eaten at least a dozen in the month or so I've been here on Plum island. When I placed the beer upon the counter, the older African-American woman who was working asked me for my ID. When I pulled out the paper ID, she got very angry and said "I thought I told you to stop coming in here with that paper!" (I had never once been inside this gas station, let alone attempt to purchase anything.) I told her that I had never been into this store and that she probably had me confused with someone else, but she was still angry. I turned to walk out without my items, but she stopped me and said that she'd "let me buy beer one last time." (Again, I had never before been inside.) So, I said okay, and asked if I could also purchase a pack of Marlboros. She again got very angry with me and said she can't take the paper ID as it would be "breaking the law" However, she was still letting me purchase the beer. (Huh?) She then proceeded to tell me "just have one of your friends come in here and buy it if you need it that bad." I laughed and asked well wouldn't that be breaking the law? To which she had no reply but further angry mumbling. Again, I get I shouldn't expect every gas station to not scan my ID, but if you're gonna do that at least be consistent with it and don't contradict yourself. I just don't understand how you can sell someone beer but refuse to sell them cigarettes.

The credit card interface on the machine is like the worst I've ever used. It's so slow, and then after you get approved, there is a long delay to fuel because the workers inside need to allow the pumps to turn on for you. I was out there in the pouring rain waiting for them to turn the pumps on for me what seemed like 5 minutes. When I finished pumping, I looked in the window and saw the 1 attendant working being overwhelmed by gambling degenerates at the lottery machine.
