I don't know how this is at 3.5 stars this coffee shop is a solid 5/5 all day. Delicious drinks and food, quick friendly service, and it's a whole vibe inside and out. A great place to have a cup of coffee and a sandwich and watch the world pass by. If I could give them an extra star for the variety of their customers and conversations I hear sitting here I would. There's a reason this place has been here for 35 years and is still going strong no matter how much the landscape of Hillsborough Street changes.

Lots of flavors! Very nice and polite service. Lots of seating which is great. Yummy white chocolate latte.

Cup A Joe was a cute little spot near NC State. The employees were very nice when i walked in and welcomed other customers as well. I ordered a cold brew with irish cream. The drink all together was very sweet, maybe no cream and 1 pump next time; but it wasn't a deal breaker because the coffee itself has amazing flavor, smooth, bold taste and not bitter which is hard to do with cold brew. I will be coming back to try their regular coffee and espresso...just leaving out or seeing if i can adjust that sugar level. Make sure you clarify Irish cream syrup and not baileys (luckily the crew making the coffee caught it).

My wife got a medium cup of Caramel Latte for us to share, and it tasted as rich as what we usually get at Crema Coffee in Raleigh. We both enjoyed the creamy, caramel taste. The coffee flavor is flawless. 3 shots of coffee were fine with this blend. Love the positive energy of the barristas serving, with their excellent & fast customer service. Inviting ambiance also makes this an ideal spot. Cup A Joe is a highly-recommended coffee shop for sure. | Overall Score: 4.7/5

Trainwreck with vanilla and oat milk

I definitely recommend getting a Trainwreck coffee when you go! Lots of caffeine and really good! The service is good and definitely a cute spot. Lots of seating. I wouldn't recommend the food here just basic. I got the egg bowl -- it was just reheated eggs that were shaped for a breakfast sandwich in a styrofoam container. All the drinks have been great though and I've been back multiple times!

Definitely getting a great review. Food was ready quick and tasted amazing. Their coffee (latte) was so good!! Want to come back to try their cookies!

Cup a Joe is one of my favorite spots in Raleigh. Affordable coffee, friendly staff, and a great place to work or study. I come here at least once a week because it's a great place to relax and enjoy a hot cup of coffee :)

8am and packed with people getting their morning caffeine going. Several people with laptops already typing away, a few reading newspapers and a few psychopaths not using any electronic devices and simply talking with their friends. What's that all about? The don't do a cortado here but the young lady behind the counter did know what I wanted and came pretty close with a double espresso and hot milk. So a real plus there for that. They do breakfast and there's even a "keto special" which is no bread. I ordered the double scrambled eggs with ham. Nothing special but exactly perfect on my eating regime. Table was wobbly and I had the feeling that they would really prefer folks to be moving on. Nothing formal about it, just a vibe. So after breakfast and coffee, I moved along. They do have a dedicated parking lot in the back which is important as parking in this area is otherwise difficult. [Review 12287 overall, 2071 of 2019.]

Staff was friendly and helpful. I tried a decaf Voltaire as suggested by the barista and bought a pound of decaf espresso beans. I made this trip to try these beans at home I will revise this review after brewing the beans for a week.

That brings me to the next point. If you go on the busy days be ready to wait long sitting times, is not because of the place itself but because people will overextend their stay and because the local is small it could fill up very quickly. On my visit here I waited over 50 minutes to be sit. Rather than a critic is more of a heads up so that it doesn't take you by surprise. To touch on the food a little bit, I specifically got the breakfast burrito and it was incredible enjoyable. Got some fries as a side and some mushrooms and everything was tasty and fresh. If you aren't sure what to order you won't go wrong ordering that. I would suggest that it be nice to see a traditional american breakfast on the menu. 9/10 would definitely come back!

Drinks: I ordered a matcha latte, iced with oat milk. I knew it was a mistake as I watched them make it and the match came out of a squeeze bottle. My mom ordered hot black coffee, claiming it tasted burnt and was undrinkable. Mains: I ordered the strawberries & cream pancakes which came with three extremely tiny pancakes, that tasted like whole wheat. The "fresh jam" was overly sugared and had a smoothie like consistency. For $16 I was hungry and disappointed. My mom ordered the grain and egg bowl, wait it was underwhelming. Shocked there are so many positive reviews.

I loved the cheese on top! I was not a huge fan of the flavor the almond flour gave them but it was not overpowering. I would probably get them again! They had a lot of options as far as specialty lattes but I am glad I went with the Vanilla Maple. I was worried that the maple flavor would be too much but it complimented the vanilla well. I think I prefer a savory or salty biscuit, but it was still good. i'll I really enjoyed the fried egg because of the runny yolk, especially since most of these biscuits use a scrambled egg so this was unique to me. The bacon and cheese on their own were also good. My friends and I shared a Fruit Cup/Bowl which was actually refreshing. The fruit was actually sweet and not tart! I did not try their drinks, although I probably should have considering how well-liked they are. I would come back if I was in the area to try the other items on their menu. If you live in Raleigh, you've heard people rave about Boulted Bread - from their titular bread to their morning bun to their croissants, they have everything a carb connoisseur could desire. I visited with a friend on a Tuesday morning (they currently are not open on Mondays) and it was busy. I ordered their seasonal fig leaf latte, the morning bun, chocolate croissant, and a tartine that was kind of like a pizza on a piece of bread. The latte was delicious - it has brown sugar in it, which was perfect as the iced version. The morning bun was delightful - probably my second favorite morning bun/cinnamon roll in Raleigh. The chocolate croissant was filled with chocolate ganache - which I was not expecting - it was messy but also very good. Lastly, the tarine, which like I mentioned, was kind of like a pizza on a piece of toast - it had cheese tomato sauce - simple and savory and tasty.
