    Morning bun
    Kelsey A.

The morning bun is my absolute favorite. Coffee is 10/10 especially the lavender flavoring but all of it is delish. Any pastry I've ever gotten I haven't been disappointed. So clean and such a cute spot. They also have drinks in the fridge, but if you are wanting to get a coffee, expect to wait a little bit.

I'm becoming surprisingly obsessed with boulders bread. They have delicious coffee, pastries and fresh breads. The service is always good and quick and it's really nice to chill inside and watch the bread making in the works while you enjoy your coffee. I'll definitely keep coming back for more, it's definitely not just a hype.

While the bread was spectacular, I don't know that it was worth standing in line for. The coffee was well done. The bread in the raspberry chocolate pastry was so stunning that the filling felt distracting in comparison. I'd be back to buy loaves of bread from here. The morning bun, however, was underwhelming.

One of the best bakeries in Raleigh! There can be a long line on the weekends, but it moves pretty quick - even if you order a specialty coffee, it's not too long of a wait. I really appreciate the mixture of both sweet and savory pasties. The menu rotates seasonally with special offerings on the weekends - there is always something new and unique to try!

All I can say is wow! I have heard nothing but great things about this place and it certainly lived up to my expectations. Upon getting there, the line thankfully wasn't that long but it is such a cozy spot. My only gripe is that there are definitely not enough seats (which is telling to how good this place is). I got an assortment of things - a chocolate croissant, everything croissant, morning bun and a cheddar scone (not the name for it but that's my best shot at a description). The croissants were incredible - both flaky, light and with the right amount of "chew". My only complaint with the chocolate croissant was that it was so fresh that the chocolate basically shot out of the other end when eating it. The everything croissant was amazing. It was filled with a scallion cream cheese which to me, was heavenly. The morning bun was definitely more indulgent and heavy, but still incredible. The layers were fluffy and had exactly the right amount of sugar and zest. Finally, the cheddar scone was awesome. I think I would've enjoyed this as a breakfast sandwich to be honest with you but it has layers like a biscuit and such a kick of spice at the end of the bite, it was fantastic. I can't wait to come back and try everything else that they offer!

When you approach the street your senses are overwhelmed by the delicious smell of freshly baked bread and pastries. We knew we were close when we inhaled the good bread smells. We came in on a Saturday around 11:30am so a lot of the pastries were already sold out, but we snagged an everything croissant and chocolate croissant for breakfast. Both were well crafted, flakey, and delicious. We loved making a trip here and would absolutely come back earlier next time!

I found this coffee shop and bakery on TikTok and had to check it out since everyone was raving about it. The line was out the door when I got there, which felt like a good sign. Service for the pastry was super fast, but I waited about five minutes for my coffee which was fine. The coffee itself was really good, but the pastry I grabbed was way too salty for me. I'm guessing I just didn't pick the right one because this place is clearly popular, so next time I might need someone to point me in the right direction on what pastry is worth trying. Overall, I'd definitely come back for the coffee, but I'm still figuring out the bakery side of things.

A trip to Raleigh feels incomplete without a trip to Boulted Bread! The morning buns have a crunch, caramelized exterior with a soft interior flavored with cinnamon. It is easy to order, staff is friendly, and the pastries are a great breakfast treat or afternoon snack. The Dorthy Dix park is also nearby.

Wow. I've had a lot of different bread in my life but these are freshest and tastiest one I've had. It's probably better than Republique in LA. The staff was very nice and the place just smell of blissful. There's plenty of seating inside. I'd definitely comeback and recommend everyone to come and try them! All the bread I had were delicious.

Really enjoyed Boulted bread one of the best ham and cheese croissants. The egg tart like pastry was very good loved the light citrus flavor. In general I was really impressed by the bread. Was also impressed by the mill and seeing the croissant lamination machine putting in work! If I had one issue it was the service. It was our first time there it just felt a bit rushed and there wasn't much help. Just a silent person watching us waiting for us to tell them what we want. A simple "how are you doing, please let me know if you have any questions". The space was perfectly fine. The highlight of the space was definitely the visual of the bakers baking.

    Any vegan pastries?

Alas, no. Thanks for asking. Their bialys are vegan, but they are savory and chewy, not sweet and tender. I hope someday they expand to vegan pastries. If anyone thinks this can't be done amazingly well, check out the Bklyn Bakery in Durham.

Iris Coffee Lab is where you bring the friend who can tell you the origin of a bean after one sip,…read morewho gets excited about extraction methods and tasting notes, and who genuinely believes coffee deserves the same reverence as a fine bottle of wine. Iris isn't trying to be trendy: it is unapologetically devoted to the craft. The interior reflects that philosophy. A restrained palette of white, charcoal, and soft gray keeps distractions to a minimum, allowing every cup to remain the focal point. It's clean, modern, and intentionally understated. If you're someone who typically reaches for cream and sugar, I'd encourage you to order at least one cup black. Iris sources and roasts exceptional coffee, and tasting it without distractions is the best way to appreciate the nuance and balance that have earned the café such a devoted following. That said, the seasonal menu is every bit as thoughtful. On this visit, I ordered the Mango Sticky Rice Matcha Latte, a drink layered with tropical sweetness, creamy matcha, and just enough complexity to keep each sip interesting. The final few sips, where all of the flavors settled together, were unexpectedly my favorite part. My brother-in-law chose Iris's signature blueberry-forward latte, while my niece ordered the house-made chai. Before she'd even finished half the cup, she looked up and declared, "This is the best chai I've ever had." Her father, after trying it himself, agreed without hesitation. The breakfast menu compliments the beverage program well, offering thoughtfully prepared dishes that feel every bit as intentional as the drinks. Like many destination coffee shops, Iris tends to attract people who settle in for a while. Laptops are open across nearly every table, conversations are minimal, and the room has the focused energy of a shared studio rather than a bustling café. Because of the open design, voices travel easily, making it a better place for quiet work than lively catch-ups. The café is meticulously maintained, including spotless restrooms that reflect the same attention to detail found throughout the space. Parking can require a bit of patience, though I've almost always managed to find a spot without too much trouble. Iris Coffee Lab isn't trying to appeal to everyone, and that's exactly what makes it special. It's a café for people who care about coffee, how it's sourced, brewed, and experienced. In a city with no shortage of coffee shops, Iris has carved out a distinct identity by putting craftsmanship ahead of trends, creating a destination that's as much about curiosity as it is about caffeine.

The downtown Raleigh location is fantastic too. Their seasonal menu was small but mighty -- just a couple of options -- but the kind where every drink looks so good you wish they'd never rotate them off the menu. I started with the orange cardamom flat white, and it was perfect in every way. Beautifully presented and incredibly balanced. The espresso, milk, orange, and cardamom all complemented each other without any one flavor taking over. It was nuanced, aromatic, and just a joy to drink. For my second drink, I ordered a Rodrigo Sanchez pour-over, a co-fermented Colombian coffee labeled with passion fruit notes. It was everything I want from a pour-over -- bright, juicy, and expressive, with the kind of sweet stone fruit and berry notes that make light-roasted coffee so exciting. Black & White continues to prove why they're one of the most respected specialty roasters around. If you love adventurous coffee with huge flavor and careful execution, this place is an absolute must-visit.
