When you walk inside, you're greeted by a large, open space with a clean, minimalist design that feels modern without being cold. The menu is where this place stands out. There are a lot of fun choices, including several unique options you don't see at most coffee spots, which makes it worth exploring beyond your usual order. I kept it simple and went with a red eye, and it delivered--good, solid coffee with the extra kick you want when you're in the middle of a workday. Overall, a convenient stop with a cool atmosphere and a menu that brings something a little different to the table. Definitely a good spot to keep in mind if you're in the Cary area.

There's plenty of parking in the adjacent parking lot. There's plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. They have breakfast & lunch menu's. They don't have a ton of options, but just enough. They have a huge drink menu, coffee, cold brews, their famous coffee smoothies, juice smoothies, and all types of teas from matcha to milk tea. There's so many options. The team behind the counter were very nice & helpful it being my first time. It's not fancy, but cute and cozy. There's lots of seating, plenty of outlets for laptops, it's a great place to work. The outdoor patio is covered with plenty of tables. I ordered the iced coconut latte and one of the baked goods from a local bakery on display at the counter. The latte was delicious & the Crumbcake was fresh and okay.

The café has a welcoming atmosphere, friendly service, and quality food that goes beyond just coffee. I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu. I couldn't get a hot matcha latte the other day because the espresso machine wasn't working (which I'm sure is out of their control) and so I opted for a hot lavender earl grey tea (pictured here). I was able to get the hot matcha another day and that decent (also pictured). Just a pro-tea tip-- there was no reason to have THIS LARGE AMOUNT of tea leaves here. This was enough to brew an entire pot! So the cup of tea I had was EXTREMELY bitter for that small mug. Wayyyyyyyyyyy too many leaves. You only need a teaspoon (maybe two depending on the tea) and that goes for any loose leaf tea. This is often an issue at places that primarily serve coffee, so perhaps some education on proper tea brewing would help.

When you walk in you'll be transported to a cozy, charming, and relaxed atmosphere. The staff are also extremely nice and welcoming. I ordered the seasonal latte which I can't remember what it was called. It had turmeric and some other spaces, I believe it was called the bee latte and it was excellent. I hear the Orange Blossom latte is also really good. Also, check out the upstairs seating area. This is a great coffee shop to spend some time in and also for remote work.

I went back to ask for it to be remade, since this is not what I wanted and I haven't touched any of the product, which usually would be no problem, especially since the young man at the counter was very new. The first answer I got was "we don't do that here", which is not true, then the somewhat curtly brown haired white girl said "well I can just pour it in there for you! It will be the same thing!" Laughing and rolling her eyes. Which I prompted that I really would rather have it remade, since it will affect the flavor and it was not what I had ordered. She continued to try to go back and forth with me about remaking my drink trying to make it seem like it's a problem and telling me "the way you came in was a lot" even though I asked multiple times, very nicely and tried to make clear, that my problem right now is about the attitude my complaint was handled with because I understand that mistakes can happen. I also understand that it shouldn't be a problem to make it right at the end without making fun and rolling eyes. My remade drink was still wrong and it was obvious that it was purposely this time, since I told her my order again, she repeated it and still proceeded to use a LG cup instead of a regular, but continued using regular cup measurements+ 1 espresso shot (which is also not what would come in there regularly). Even after I mentioned, again, that it was supposed to be 3 espresso shots( she charged me for another 2 shots,which is fine, I'm not here to get anything for free, I really just wanted my one drink made right) she handed me a regular matcha, 3 espresso in a large cup, filled up with milk to the top. Again, this is not what I ordered. But I had to go to my own job so I had no time to go through this again. Side note: a large drink would usually come with 4 shots. Parking can be a bit tricky here as the coffee shop is located in the heart of downtown Raleigh. The vibe inside this coffee shop is bright and open. I ordered a caramel latte which was excellent and the latte art was also a nice touch. If you are trying to work remotely there isn't much seating available here. If I'm in the area again I'll definitely be stopping by black and white coffee for a cup of coffee.

The downtown Raleigh location is fantastic too. Their seasonal menu was small but mighty -- just a couple of options -- but the kind where every drink looks so good you wish they'd never rotate them off the menu. I started with the orange cardamom flat white, and it was perfect in every way. Beautifully presented and incredibly balanced. The espresso, milk, orange, and cardamom all complemented each other without any one flavor taking over. It was nuanced, aromatic, and just a joy to drink. For my second drink, I ordered a Rodrigo Sanchez pour-over, a co-fermented Colombian coffee labeled with passion fruit notes. It was everything I want from a pour-over -- bright, juicy, and expressive, with the kind of sweet stone fruit and berry notes that make light-roasted coffee so exciting. Black & White continues to prove why they're one of the most respected specialty roasters around. If you love adventurous coffee with huge flavor and careful execution, this place is an absolute must-visit.
