On a block that has 3 diners, this would be the cleanest and most unique. It's a 50's style diner with jukeboxes at the table. Lots of seating in booths and at the "bar". I went in for breakfast, got their famed "bananas foster french toast". Good god, it's filling. I could only eat half of it. It's one gigantic piece of french toast, but the bananas and syrup were overwhelming. It was good, but just too much for me. There's nothing else all that creative on the menu, but they do have the staples, lots of omelets, and the service was fast and friendly. read more

I'm off today so decided to go to a diner. Bad way to start my morning. First I had to seat myself while the white guy behind the bar is on fb on his phone. Second two white ppl that work their sit about 4 to 5 booths ahead of me just talking. Mind you I been sitting down for 15 minutes in a diner with one person at the bar drinking coffee before I get some service. After being looked at constantly but no service I yell " excuse me can I get some service " dude comes over and says "you ready" and take my order. He leaves, all my thinking is these fucking racist ass ppl they didn't wanna serve me anyway and I'll be damn if I find something in my food let me leave. I work close by and have been here a handful of times. I was really happy to see that they have a veggie burger, Betty Bop, on the menu. It always tasted fine, and I appreciated that they were able to get me my food in a timely manner so I could be back at work before my break was over. However, the last time I went there I noticed that they "cook" the veggie patty by popping it in a microwave. Come on, if I wanted microwaved food I could do that in the comfort of my office. I've been going here on and off for more than 40 years. It's a fairly new owner named Plouffe now. It was a great change in looks. I took my wife for lunch as she has never been here. What a great menu. I got the bacon burger and she ordered a similar burger (I forgot the name). The waitress explained the ingredients and answered any questions. She had a great personality and even sang the tunes on the juke box (in a good way). The experience was great. I used to go to the Cup n Saucer when I was a kid but a few years ago, it closed (I believe the owner had a fatal accident). It's now been re-opened and it looks terrific. No more dingy faux-Tiffany lamps and cracked vinyl. It's clean and retro feeling and well put together. So far, I've only had breakfast there. It was tasty if not spectacular. The menu was standard diner fare. Not that there's anything wrong with that! Also, if you're a French Canadian Blackstone Valley-ite of a certain age, you're certainly going to be grateful for the Plouffe's pies. It's a pretty small place but the service is great (although if I just took one sip of my coffee the waitress would come by asking if I needed a refill). I went here in a rush for coffee to-go one morning and there was a $15 minimun on CC purchases. I didn't have any cash so Carrie, the super friendly lady behind the counter gave my husband and I free coffee. SHe just made us promise to come back to see her and stay to eat. This is the kind of charm and warmth I LOVE in any human being. THe next morning we made it our priority to go see Carrie at Cup and Saucer so we could properly thank her and try the breakfast. The diner is decorated like a 50s style diner and even has mini jukeboxes on each table. The place looked VERY clean and there were a good amount of customers when we showed up Sunday morning. Carrie sat us immediately (she remembered us) and gave us menus. The coffee was GREAT and there menu boasts lots of pretty interesting items for a small diner in downtown Pawtucket. My husband ordered the cornbeef hash (he is on a mission to find the best one in RI). It was made with sweet potatoes and served with eggs and home fries. I was tempted to get the Bananas Foster french toast with rum sauce, but it is made with Portuguese sweet bread and I am unfortunately not that brave yet. I opted for the wheat french toast. I had everything served on the side because I hate soggy french toast, but it was only served with a little bit of confectioner's sugar and a cinnamon butter. I opted for cream cheese but both were on the side when it was served. The food was okay, but a little lack luster. My french toast was kinda salty and his hash was a little too sweet. We noticed that they have a yummy selection of lunch and dinner menu items so we will be back to try these for sure. This is a fun 50's retro diner type place that looks pretty nondescript from the outside. I came early for breakfast since I dropped my car off at the mechanics around the corner. It's seat your self and they have booths, tables and a counter. It looked like it was full of regulars and the server gave me a friendly greeting as I found space in a booth. Because of other reviews I got the bananas foster french toast and a side of bacon and it was huge. The french toast was a little sweeter than I would have preferred it, and I thought it might be from the description but I ate most of it! The bacon was hot and crispy, just the way I like it. The coffee was weak, but not offensive (burnt, old, etc). Overall a good diner breakfast experience and I'll be back to try other options on the menu. read more

Has potential. The decor was ok, very busy. Couldn't pick 1 theme I guess. The coffee...diner coffee is always a foodgasm...hard to screw it up! Bacon cheeseburger and handcut fries were decent. Weiners were disappointing...who doesn't put diced onions on a Weiner! Half of my "Quebec" fries were undercooked and is use the quotes because they're not Quebec fries without mozzarella cheese. The gravy was bland. I hate adding salt to my food but had to lay it on pretty heavily. The shining stat was quality mass produced mozzarella sticks with some fantastic sauce! Service was wonderful. Prices were great for the portions. Our whole order was $23.00 not including tip and we brought home some leftovers. Very clean. Creepy mannequins that take of valuable table space in the tiny place. Hours are weird. We'll try again for breakfast and see if its any better. read more

Cup n Saucer is right down the street from my newly-rented studio space, so I've had lots of large coffees with sugar to go. Today it worked through lunchtime, so by the time I got down there I was well beyond the need for coffee. So I ordered the Betty Boop Veggie Burger, of all things...with fries. This was not a pre-made boca burger, but rather it seemed to be a custom-made pattie with tomatoes, stacked with baby spinach leaves, and crumbled feta in a soft eggy roll. The fries had their skins on, and were a little dirty with a light spice; I had to wait for them to cool down a bit, but the malt vinegar on the side helped a bit. Irish Omelet (homemade hash & cheese) w/ homefries--A+. Great funky décor, very clean, tidy, and looks newly remodeled. Kids were fascinated with the table jukeboxes and eclectic, but well-themed memorabilia on the walls. We drove to Pawtucket for an art show at The Foundry (The Pawtucket ArmoryCenter for the Arts) just a few blocks away. A lot of new artist galleries/design centers nearby. This was a great gastronomic stop before our art show afternoon. Cup n Saucer is an authentic, family-owned establishment (circa 1914) with excellent prices, a terrific diner menu in a clean, remodeled, fun and easily accessed location. We'll be back! read more

Downtown Pawtucket... huh... uummm... are you sure that's where you want to go? First thing that came to my mind (being born and raised in the "Bucket"). But, I said what the heck.. lets give it a shot.. because I love breakfast places and find myself going to the usual joints... so think outside the box time. I am so glad I did.... I efffiiinngg love this place. You walk up and it is totally 50's dinered out... dressed up mannequins in the window, jukebox.. checkerboard ceiling.. sweet breakfast counter, lots of cool black and white photos and stuff on the wall.. mix in some chrome and motorcycle parts and you got yourself a breakfast place. First off, the place is new looking and super clean... the waitresses are quick on the coffee, not sure I ever got below 3/4's of a cup... and there was such a welcoming vibe to the place. Carrie our waitress was so sweet. Now the important part... the food. Great menu.. lots of typical breakfast fare, some neat specials... but nothing crazy, which is fine its breakfast.. and my motto usually is keep it simple, stupid. Ha. Having formerly owned a breakfast joint for a while.. the true test is the over easy egg. I ordered Homemade hash and eggs... cause I love hash.. with toasted portuguese sweetbread (such a good idea..) and because I was feeling gluttonous got a side of chorico.. the good Portugy that I am. So satisfied. I do not know what the people who rated the breakfast at this place poorly were thinking... out of their mind. the over easy eggs were perfect... runny yokes, cooked whites.. spot on. The home fries.. not seasoned to death like some places.. were warm and soft on the inside, with a nice crisp exterior.. the toasted portuguese sweetbread brought back memories of my childhood, being over my grandmas house eating fresh warm sweetbread out of the oven with butter.. the chorico was good, and crispy on the outside.. and finally the hash. Oh hash, such promise.. I want to say I loved this hash... it was just the right mix of corned beef, potato, a little onion, carrot (which was a nice surprise) and thyme. The first few bites were great.. nice little crust from the flat top, and with the house made hot sauce.. so good. But the more I ate, the more all I could taste was the thyme.. why??!!?? I wanted to love you... anyways, it was not a deal breeker. Would return here for the food, service and vibe in a hot second. The dying Pawtucket downtown can't afford people who don't care and that was the overall vibe that this place out out. I'd been here for breakfast years ago and I loved it. Hot food, friendly wait staff and cool retro decor. Everything a diner should be. Lunch felt impersonal and took forever even though the restaurant was empty. My friends and I just felt unwelcome and the time lapse between drinks, ordering food and getting the check lowered the quality of the food itself and the quality of my visit. I hope next time I go is a better trip because I adore downtown and I hope to see it make a recovery from whatever disease it's suffering from. read more

Everyone in there greeted us! Food was ok, coffee was good. They take a long time to get your bill, etc, and my food is never made quite right, but they're so nice you can't stay mad. Waitresses and customers came up to us to make small talk and tell us about local shopping spots - and we're not even tourists, we're local! If you want to see how good humanity is, come here! Ordered the turkey club sandwich and an Al Capone on seamless. The turkey club came as literally just turkey on bread and the steak on the Al Capone was ordered rare but came well done. Can't believe I have to say this, but I guess if you order a club sandwich, make sure you specify that you actually want all of the ingredients that make up a club sandwich. read more

I remember Cup and Saucer from many years ago when Charlie and his wife ran it. They had very good food but the place needed a lot of work to make it look good. The new owners have done the old place proud. It is clean,the hanburg I had was great.,in fact it was a real diner burger. Service was very good. The decor was very nice and I loved the ice cream tables along with the large ice cream sundae in the front windows. Bikers and others will love the wall decorations from a museum but very well done. All in all. Very nice. It is places like this in Pawtucket that will help to bring the old city back where it belongs. Now we need the ice cream to top it off. A good place to go. BarryN read more

2014 Update: My original review was 3 stars, essentially just averaging the 5star good and the 1star bad. That decision has tortured my poor mind for a year. Having half the meal nearly inedible is just unacceptable. If you do decide to head here, choose your food VERY carefully. The Good: Very cheap food in rather large quantities. Nice atmosphere. Fantastic 5-star Bananas Foster French Toast. I highly suggest it to everyone. The Bad: Ordered a Steak, Cheese, and Peppers Calzone only to get Steak, Cheese, and Pepperoni. And the calzone was horrible! Bad dough (it tasted old) and the steak had quite a lot of gristle (and appeared to be more ground beef than steak). Not to mention the marinara sauce tasted awful and was greasy and microwaved. The Other Stuff: 3 star Bacon Cheese Fries. A little burnt but decent. Waiter was friendly, but getting his attention was a hassle (they were not busy). read more

I've gone here about a dozen times in the last year or so, and everything I order ends up being magnificent: french meat pies, stuffies, hamburgers, clam cakes & chowder, the gravy on the mashed potatoes is to die for, the skin-on french fries are insane, a gourmet cabbage (not cole slaw) side dish was so good that I literally had everybody at the table try it. Everything tastes like it was made from scratch, and probably by a trained chef, judging by the quality. There's a parking garage right across the street. This place is a real hidden gem. read more

The atmosphere is cozy and comfortable, and I appreciate that the owner is trying to open up a candy shop across the street ... it takes guts to try and start a business in the area, and it seems the Cup N Saucer is doing quite well. Slowest restaurant I've ever been too. I've been here twice. I work nearby and there isn't much around for the lunch scene. The food was decent diner food both times and if it wasn't for the service I'd probably go more frequently. The servers are all friendly but the kitchen takes forever. I've never waited so long for sandwiches. I have an hour lunch and both times I've gone it took the whole hour, because of the wait for the food. If you have time to eat at leisure I'd check it out but if you are on the clock you better chew fast. read more

We've driven by this place a million times and finally decided to check it out. We were pleasantly surprised by the interior it was nice and very much like a classic diner. We ordered our food and were looking forward to trying the belgian waffle special. We were waiting for a little while and heard the "ding" from the kitchen, so we figured it may be our food. Never came. We than heard a more aggressive "ding" a few minutes later. Turns out it was "most" of our food. They delivered ice cold belgian waffles (not even luke warm) and only one of the side orders of bacon, which also wasn't warm. After a few minutes we called the server over and let her know to cancel the other side of bacon and we actually didn't want our meals since they were too cold to eat. I gave this place two stars because the decor was nice and the workers were nice. The manager erased our bill and apologized. It wasn't just us, as we could hear the table behind us asking for their order to go because of the wait time. read more

Well, I would title this restaurant as "All dressed up and no where to go." Sorry to disagree with the other reviews, but here are my experiences: I went there shortly after their grand opening. The breakfast was very ordinary. They weren't busy, but I was virtually ignored by the server and had to call her over twice to get what I needed. The coffee wasn't good and I didn't consider it a good value for the price. Although I had no reason to return, I just came back from lunch there. That will be my last visit. The diner-style restaurant is nicely decorated, clean and attractive. " Do you want a menu?" Hmm, I thought - How would I know what you have? I ordered. "Oh, we don't have that. It's a new menu and we won't have that until next week." What they did have was a few sandwiches. That's about it. I ordered something from the few choices. The food was okay. Nothing special. It came to $9.72. I paid with a $20.00 and received the receipt back and with it - $12.17 in change. I pointed it out to my server and she went back to the register to correct it. "Ha! I gave you a dollar too much." Not - "thanks for pointing that out, or sorry about the mistake"... Rhode Island probably has more restaurants per the population than any state in the nation. I always wish for businesses to be successful. Especially do I want that to be true in downtown Pawtucket. I don't know how some survive when they have little to offer and spend their time on decor and advertising, rather than on food and training. read more

We showed up during a busy time. The manager said there would be a little wait. We were seated but it took 10 minutes to get a menu and that was only after we asked for it. 15 minutes later the waitress took our order. Meanwhile people were seated after us got their orders in before us. Over one hour later we got our food....well I got my food. The cook messed up my boyfriend's order so he had to wait even longer. There were a lot of apologies from the waitress but she really should've waited on the customers in the order that they were seated. Also the manager had her baby there and she and another waitress was holding the baby while serving people. Oh and the guy who bussed our table had cuts all over his fingers, he was wearing a latex glove and the blood was pooling up inside it. This was the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant. We were considering walking out 30 minutes into the visit. I wish we did. read more

decided to try this place after a few good reviews. but my experience here was less than great. i ordered the "Montreal" fries which i assumed was their version of poutine. but it didnt come with ANY cheese curds. no cheese at all. they should just call it gravy fries. and the service was pretty bad. took us a while to get the check or any service from our less than enthused "waiter". i dont hope this place closes or anything but they definitely need to up their game. read more
