Former patient of Dr. Han here as well, chiming in with my experiences for this new practice. I liked Dr. Han a great deal. Sort of grew up with him as my eye doctor, a truly nice and caring doc. So I was sad upon learning of his retirement, and went to try out the successor practice with mixed expectations. Well, as it turns out, I didn't need to worry. Dr. Chang is superb - just as caring and warm as Dr. Han, but with top medical expertise. It's a bit of a cliche, but I really didn't know what I was missing before - she caught things about my eyes that had gone unnoticed for years, but could flare up into larger problems if left unchecked. Amazing. The testing equipment is almost all new, and top of the line. The staff is great because they seem genuinely passionate about their jobs, which is rare and refreshing. They spent a long (emphasis on long - I'm picky...) time helping me find the perfect pair of prescription sunglasses and thoroughly explained all the various options with no upsell. They're still working out the kinks of some of the office policies (it's a new practice, so understandable), but made up for it and more in dedication. Great selection of trendy, imported, hard-to-find frames too. So. I'm sorry on a personal level that Dr. Han retired, but very honestly, this is an upgraded, thoroughly modern practice which I recommend without reservation. read more

Review update! I honestly have (next to?) nothing but good things to say about this place. Everyone here goes above and beyond to make sure that I'm being taken care of, despite the fact that I spend most of the time on the other side of the country. I admit that I'm a little paranoid about my eye care, but I can always count on Dr. Chang and her staff to take care of me. They always get back to me in a timely manner when I email/call the office and even go out of their way to get in touch with me outside of business hours, including weekends. On a recent occasion, I had a careless moment with my contacts and didn't really have suitable alternative. I emailed Dr. Chang about my predicament and she had Marianne call to save me. Marianne called me day of from her personal number after business hours even though I wasn't experiencing a medical emergency and answered my (usually numerous) questions without rushing me even though I was taking up her personal time. She ordered new contacts for me and had them shipped to my address on the East Coast with no hassle on my part. She followed up with me regarding shipment by giving me a tracking number, then called me back the day of when I said I was unable to track the package (turns out it was shipped with USPS and I had thought it was UPS). She even reminded me about updating my Yelp review like I said I would in my original post; she is literally on top of everything! Note: after my first review, Dr. Chang called me personally to thank me for the comments. Marianne and Rosa also thanked me for the positive review when I visited the office. It showed me that Cupertino Optometry really cares about what patients think, which I think is crucial to patient satisfaction. On a slightly different note: my mom is also a fan of Marianne. About a week or so after my mom's last appointment, I called my mom to ask how it went (this was also at the request of Dr. Chang, who wanted to make sure my mom understood everything that she told her during the exam--my mom is primarily a Korean speaker) and mentioned how Marianne was able to explain all these insurance billing/copay business in a way that she could understand. My mom noted that despite the language barrier that did not exist with Dr. Han's practice, she has a better idea of charges billed with Dr. Chang and said that Dr. Chang was very lucky to have someone like Marianne handling the office duties while she sees patients. So I have ordered two pairs of glasses and two types of contacts from the office. I am a pretty indecisive person, do naturally it took FOREVER to decide on a frame, and the staff was amazingly patient about showing me at least a dozen frames and have me no fuss when I eventually decided to bring in a frame from elsewhere. (Btw, they will order frames in different colors or styles if what you want isn't in stock at the office. Also, I remember that they have a sizeable collection of frames that can come with or without nose pads, which is helpful for Asian faces.) My contacts and glasses all came without issue, and the office was really good about rushing my orders (my California visits are not very long) and/or making sure I would receive my materials wherever I would be across the country. Note: I believe they have added another optician to the practice; I saw her twice in May 2013 and her name is Bernadette. She seemed a little frazzled but it was her first day when I saw her and may have overwhelmed her. I needed to sort out ordering+billing for reading glasses, contact lenses, and distance vision glasses. I did notice that she repeats herself verbatim a lot though. Perfect experience! I keep reminding myself I owe this amazing place a 5-star rating since I got my new glasses. My old glasses got broken and I had really hoped them to break soon as I never liked them. My last experience at a different optometrist in mountain view wasn't close to good: needed to run there twice because the first time they didn't notice the dots inside the glass and the frame I got finally had loose legs. I wasn't so sure about Cupertino Optometry and simply testing my luck. Surprisingly their service is top notch: everyone was very patient and nice. I got my new glasses in about a week and they even offered me free cleaning of my backup glasses. Definitely a wonderful place to have your glasses replaced/ upgraded. I had great experiences with Dr. Toy, Dr. Pan and the front staff (Betsy, others) in my last two visits here. Everyone is knowledgeable, thorough, patient, and friendly - truly an office full of professionals. My first appointment involved an eye exam, optomap (retinal scan), and a contact lens fitting. I was blown away by how much time the optometrists spend with you since I'm normally used to healthcare offices that are always rushing through patients. I learned so much about the why and how at each step of the process. I was scheduled to come back for a follow up to see how the contacts were fitting my eyes. There was a minor snafu where my appointment wasn't on the books - but Betsy told me to come in anyways and catch the doctor at his lunch break. I ended up having to wait 30 minutes which was a bit annoying given the miscommunication with scheduling. However, this was made up by the fact that Dr. Pan didn't see me the first time but still took time out of his lunch break to answer all of my questions. A true class act. Definitely would recommend this place for a superior optometry experience! read more

I got my Ortho-K lenses here under the help from Dr Yang. She is very kind and helpful and also professional. She could speak a fluent Mandarin which makes the whole process of treatment easier and more pleasant. She always answered my question patiently and didn't hesitate to help me reorder the lenses until we found the ones that fit my eyes best. The stuffs in the front desk are also nice and always have a warm smile whenever I talked to them. I love this place! Would definitely recommend anyone who want to get a pair of CRT or OrthoK lenses. It is indeed amazing how your response attempts to avoid the main issue, so let me recap here: 1. Your lab allegedly started work on an unsigned prescription, for a frame that was not even in your possession. 2. Your office charges 60% amount in restocking fees for a job that has not even started. Upon asking for the proof that the work was started, the front office person says she is not involved in the lab work and cannot help on that. If they were honest enough, they would at least agree to show the lens for which they allegedly started working on and charged 60% restocking fees upon cancellation within hours of order placement. The main objective for this Yelp review is to alert potential or current customers on this horrible experience. Never came across such a business practice, who instead of appreciating customer's concerns, brings up irrelevant points in order to defend themselves. Not only this business charges 30-50% more on similar products and services than the other businesses located in less than 5 mile radius, they insist that their products are best suited for any prescription they provide. People use Yelp for posting honest reviews, please adhere to ethical principals rather than misrepresenting the facts. Let me explain again the sequence of events so readers are aware of misrepresentation of facts in your response. 1. We had requested to cancel the glass order specific to replacing lens on a personally owned frame, the 2nd order that was going to use a new frame chosen at your store was not requested to be canceled. And the reason we requested you to cancel the first order was because we could not locate the frame that was supposed to be given to you to process the order. The cancellation request was made just few hours from placing the order when we looked all around our place and couldn't find the frame. It is extremely hard to believe that you'd order your lab to make a custom lens for a frame which you do not even have in your possession. And charge 60% as restocking fees for cancellation of a job that wasn't even started! 2. The two glasses were ordered for a total out of pocket expense of ~$900, out of which FSA card paid around $700+ and remaining was paid using a personal card. As you can recall, we have a receipt showing the exact breakdown, so please watch your comments. 3. We never requested a specific method of refund, your front-desk person asked for a specific card where she could issue the refund and we provided the same. The 40% refund (after you deducted 60% restocking fees within hours of canceling) was made to the personal card which didn't even cover the amount paid with the personal card. So again, stop misrepresenting the facts here. You are welcome to check with insurance company or FSA. I hope the readers realize who is bending the rules of professionalism here and think several times before they order anything from here. Good luck with the few extra hundred dollars you made with the restocking fees! -------------------------------------------------------- Update (6/21): It has been 2 weeks since the glasses were ordered, still no ETA from their office after repeated requests for a status. I tried several doctors for my kid's night contact in South Bay, and eventually found this best one for my son's needs. Dr. Anthony Toy is both very professional and very considerable for the services, especially he quickly identified the issue and rapidly solved the problem. This office is more focused on its quality service which is totally different from others where making money is the first priority. I once used another doctor just across the De Anaza Blvd who gave my son wrong contact causing infection and serious problem in the eye. i wish i can give 0 star. I have never been treated this badly by any other business before. I went there for my eye exam and new glasses on August 15. I picked a frame and a few weeks later the new pair of glasses came in. My nightmare started then. The glasses did not sit well on my nose. I went back FIVE times to have it adjusted. I am a working mom with two kids so the only time I can go back is Saturdays. I tried to be patient, but i don't understand why they cannot make it work. after five times, the nose pads still put marks on my face, and if I wear the glasses for a few hours, i start to have headache. I called and talked to Ashlyn at the front desk on 10/19. I told her that they have been trying to fix my new glasses for 5 times, and i used my insurance coverage and another $250 or so to pay for the new glasses, all i get is a pair that does not work, and i think it is reasonable for them to replace it for me without additional charge. Ashlyn said she will talk to the doctor, who happens to be the owner of the business. I did not hear back. I called back a week later. the next day (which is today, a few minutes before they close the store), Besty from the front desk called me. she informed me that the owner Dr. Tiffany W Chang said they have policies, and they cannot replace the glasses for me, because I selected the frame, and the glasses are customized for me and they cannot sell it to anyone else. I explained to Besty that i have been wearing glasses for 20 years, and have gone through many pairs of glasses from different optometrists, never had problem before. and they are professionals, they are supposed to know how to adjust the frame for their patients, and if they fail after FIVE times, they need to show some sympathy and take some responsibilities. Besty said if i get a new pair, they will charge me 60% restocking fees. I told her that I paid hundreds of dollars and what I get is a pair of glasses that i cannot wear. and it is unreasonable if i need to pay more money to get a new pair (plus, i am not sure that they can make it work even if i get a new pair). She reiterated their "policies". at this point, i can see that the owner Dr. Tiffany W Chang set the policies, policies not to serve their patients / customers professionally, but to reap as much money as they can (or save as much as they can). I asked Besty to give me Dr. Tiffany W Chang's phone number so i can call her to discuss. Besty said the doctor cannot talk to me, all i can do is to email her. I went there after reading the good reviews. The eye test went fine. They charged me a little over $200 for reading glasses (just lenses, no frame) with VSP insurance. This is on the expensive side. When the frame and lenses started to come apart after a few months, I took them back to get it fixed. They tried to fix it but ended up breaking the thing. Instead of sending it to their lab and getting it fixed w, they asked me to pay for repairing it myself! These guys should take responsibility for the things that they make. Finally got to see Dr. Toy again. I had such bad insurance through my old job (ahem, cough Eyemed, cough) the last three years that I was unable to see Dr. Toy for awhile. Thankgoodness I am back on VSP! I have been following Dr. Toy since he was at Silicon Valley Eyecare, then to Focus Optometry in Milpitas and now here. I was pretty sad I had to go to Kaiser for my eye exam. I was in and out at Kaiser within 20mins and turns out I had to pay over $100 for my exam cause my insurance did not cover it. I felt a little rushed and wasn't quite sure the exam was thorough enough. I just felt like they were rushing me out so the next patient can come in. Unlike the other optometrists I have seen before, Dr. Toy is one of the most attentive and sincere optometrist I have had. He takes his time and doesn't rush through the exam like other Drs I have seen. He makes sure to explain what he is doing and looking for during the exams. He also makes it a point to remember who his patients are and makes small talk about my life and what is new. I like that he makes a point to get to his patients on a personal level vs just looking at them as patients only. As for the office and staff, office is nice and plenty of parking. The staff is very nice and accommodating. They're also not pushy when it comes to selling glasses or anything. Definitely recommend Dr. Toy to my friends and family. The best optometry experience I have ever had! I am very pregnant (should be waiting until after the baby for an exam) and it is the end of the year (everyone is trying to get in to use insurance by year end). I had every intention of waiting a few more months to find an eye doctor close by and getting my exam/new glasses. All that being said, yesterday my glasses broke...my only pair of glasses...beyond repair. After I could stop crying about it (silly pregnancy hormones), I went to Yelp. I called Cupertino Optometry. The girl that answered the phone (please forgive me for forgetting names) was extremely kind. Unfortunately, they were booked up for today, but she immediately offered me a spot on their waiting list. I got lucky! Within 30 minutes of our call, they had a cancellation and she called me back immediately! They were able to get me in on the last day of the year. When my husband and I showed for my appointment, we were greeted right away. We were checked in and seen within minutes of our arrival. Each process was clearly explained and we were truly put at ease. After the completion of the eye exam, Dr Yang spent time going over and explaining my new prescription, as well as the overall health of my eyes from the images that they took. She even explained why you should generally wait until after pregnancy to get an eye exam, but also understood my blind predicament. She graciously offered to re-examine my eyes after the pregnancy, if I experienced any vision changes/concerns after labor. After the exam, another very kind girl helped with the frames selection. She is amazing! She asked questions to gain perspective on my style and went right to trying to help pick out the perfect glasses. They even went as far as getting the doctor and the other girl at the desk to help vote because my husband and I just could not decide! Once all laughs were out and all votes were in, we picked out the perfect pair of glasses! I was also able to get my prescription so that if I have it for my records. What a great little gem in Cupertino! I went into this office for the first time the other day and had a great experience. It might be a little hard to find at first but just walk directly behind Aqui's and it'll be one of the offices in the De Anza professional building. I needed to get a new prescription for my contact lenses and one of my friends told me that I should check out Cupertino Optometry. I called in to schedule an appointment and luckily they had time for me later on in the week! Everyone at the front desk was accommodating, cheerful, and helpful which was a huge plus. My appointment was with Dr. Lee who seemed professional, knowledgable, and very thorough. She took the time to answer all my questions and explain to me what she was doing during the exam. Oh, and they took a picture of the back of my eye which was really cool to look at (luckily, mine were very healthy). I don't think any other optometrist has done this for me in the past. When I was first told my five year old son needed glasses, I was anxious and sad at the same time. Since I myself do not wear glasses, I did not know what to expect or how the entire process worked. Dr. Chang was extremely patient and explained my son's eye conditions clearly and thoroughly. She noticed the prescription I received from the ophthalmologist was more than a month old and even offered to redo the exam. I'm so glad she did because it turned out my son's eyes had worsened! She recommended frames and options for the lenses, all the while being very practical and trying to help minimize cost for us. Even when my son messed up his frames, her office did everything they could to replace new frames under the warranty. If you need children's glasses, this is the place to go - they have the biggest selection of children's frames I have seen. In essence, Dr. Chang is definitely a champion of all things optical and I would highly recommend her office to anyone needing glasses. read more

What can I say about Dr. Chang and her staff. They are outstanding. I followed Dr. Chang from another office. First let me say, I was passed on to her from another doctor at that office and that was the best thing that could have ever happened. Dr. Chang has been nothing but patient with me. She listens and lets you ask whatever questions you may have. If I didn't know better I would think I was her only patient. She explains my conditon in plain English and makes sure I understand and explains what she is doing. Recently I have been going to see her every couple of weeks, or so it seems. Everytume I am there she shows concern for my condition and explains to me what the treatment will be and what may happen, good and bad. She has also seen my kids and demostrates much patience with them. She explains to them what she is doing and gets them involved in the examination process. Her staff. Her staff is outstanding. They are respectful and just like Dr. Chang explain everything. They have always demostrated a willingness to help and have always been available to answer any question, no matter how lame it may be. I was a patient of Dr Han until he retired and Dr Tiffany Chang took over his practice. Dr Chang does a very thorough eye exam. She also takes the time to listen to any concerns you have about your eyes. She is friendly and explains everything. You can tell she cares about eye health and has made it her mission to keep her patients' eyes as healthy as possible. She uses state of the art equipment. Dr Chang's staff are very friendly and helpful. I was given superior customer service by them. The reception area has really been improved and looks so much better than it used to. I had a highly positive experience with both my appointment, and then, on another day, with my daughter's appointment. Even though she is only 9, they paid her as much attention as they did me. Her eye test was equally thorough and she enjoyed all the attention. My appointment began at its scheduled time, as did my daughter's. I would highly recommend Dr Chang. read more

First off, I'd like to be clear that this review is not for Dr. Chang, as I have never seen her as a patient (I was a longtime patient of Dr. Han, who used to be at Cupertino Optometry). This review is for Dr. Chang's staff and office practices, not for her services as an optometrist. I recently went to a new optometrist and requested my records from Cupertino Optometry. I was first sent an email that the charge for obtaining my medical records would be $15, but I needed to sign a release. After my current optometrist's office faxed in a signed release, I received a phone call from Dr. Chang's office informing me that in order for them to release my files, there would now be a charge of $25. I was then emailed a link to the CA laws for charging for medical records, which are 25 cents per page if requested by the patient. They told me that the $25 charge fell under the vague category of "reasonable clerical costs." The law also states that transfer of medical records is currently not covered under the law, however it is usually a "matter of professional courtesy," but apparently Dr. Chang's office would prefer to charge instead. I sent a single email response, pointing out that I thought this was unreasonable, rather than reasonable, since this charge is equal to the copay for my contact lenses through my current optometrist, that I would no longer need my records from them and that I would be posting about this on Yelp. This email did not need to be responded to; however, I received back a very unprofessional email telling me to be careful what I put in my eyes, implying that the contact lenses that my current doctor has prescribed must be sub-par. And a second email with the law previously emailed, enlarged to 24pt font. I would just like people to be aware of this. read more

Unfortunately, my latest experience here a while ago was not as smooth as the previous one. I was on time, but had to wait, was taken in and out of the room while Dr Pan (who was new to me) was also taking care of someone else, and most importantly, was not informed about extra charges (although I had specifically asked). Although I know that Dr Pan didn't do anything hugely wrong per se, for me, he also lacks flexibility and understanding for his patients. For example, giving someone who has had contacts for 20 years detailed, long, and robotic explanations about basic stuff is annoying. read more

Ive been a long time patient at Golden vision optometry and love Dr. Yang!!! She's always really patient and thorough with me. I can always trust her to keep my vision strong and healthy. I was really sad to learn that she left golden but at the same time so happy for her that she opened her own clinic. I came here to the clinic for the first time to get an eye exam last week and got new contact lenses since my heavy metal frame glasses have been giving me bad headaches with the excessive screen time. Her staff, Betsy and Ashley, were very warm and welcoming and also very efficient and accommodating. I had to bring my 6 month old here and they helped me babysit him. : ) I love the decor and the ambience. It feels very calming and kid-friendly. Dr. Chang is hands-down the best optometrist I've ever seen. She's taken the time to explore options for my super-bad eyesight and to explain everything in a way that's thorough and understandable. She's also the only person who's been able to fit me with contacts that are wearable at my high prescription. Maryanne and Rosa are also super friendly and helpful office staff--I've never met an optician who could fit glasses as comfortably and quickly as Maryanne. The facility is modern with state of the art equipment. All three doctors take the time to carefully examine and describe the health of your eyes. It is apparent from your first visit that these doctors take their work seriously and love what they do. They obviously care for their patients and it shows. I have toddler boys and all staff have worked with them with patience and care. I am confident knowing that our family is given the best care available. In addition, the office staff is simply fantastic. They eagerly help you choose glasses that suit you and expertly help you navigate your options with your insurance. I am a former patient of Dr. Han as well. I liked Dr. Han very much because of his thorough examination. I am in mixed feelings about my visit to Dr. Chang's office, Dr. Chang tried to sell several unnecessary products to us several times in just one visit. Her charges are astronomical and she and her staff sells eye exams and products that are not covered by the insurance beyond limits. Having said that her eye examination was thorough but I ended up paying way more than I have done in the past, All her charges are atleast 50% or more greater than other optometrists' charges in this area and the reason they gave me is that there are several levels of Optometrists. Went here to get CRT lenses and in the beginning it was okay. However, in the recent year or so, they have constantly flaked on me getting my new lenses even though I was supposed to get them last year. They said they'd "call me back about my lenses the morning after" but never did, and when I called they didn't pick up. My current CRT lenses are fogging up my vision and it's hard to see in class. Even with a solid 8 hours of sleep my vision is still blurry and I have to wear my glasses. They were supposed to have my lenses a long while ago but never got to it, which is not okay when my current lenses are not working and sometimes even causing pain and much inconvenience. Unreliable business and the price only exponentially increases every year. I didn't pay hundreds and hundreds for poor service and blurry vision. Update: I've gone off the CRT lenses and will be switching over to soft ones since CRT no longer works. Ridiculous that they didn't allow me to try both trial lenses while all my friends who've worn contacts were able to freely try multiple contact types before choosing. Forced me into getting multifocal contacts which are over $80 more per box than regular ones even tho I'm not farsighted and my vision is no longer changing. Outrageous that they were not accommodating at all and never even got my lenses and refund. Never got an email back about trying out the other lenses and the current ones have been giving me migraines, dryness, and blurry vision, not to mention being over 3 times as unnecessarily pricey. Just seem to be taking my money and not providing reliable service. read more

Dr. Sharon Yang is one of the best optometrists I personally ever met. My whole family had been doing eye exam with her for the past couple years. Dr. Yang recently took over this place at the begging of 2019, which she is the new owner of Cupertino Optometry. For me personally, I am Dr. Yang's Ortho-K patient and I recently decide to follow her to her new clinic that she opened by her own. Since every time when we have a follow-tp that she went through everything as detail as possible as well as reminding me to get the amount of sleep I need. Not simply for the best performance of Ortho-K, but also for my health as well as my mental health. Dr. Yang is a really professional optimist as she went through everything throughly in a professional manner, and try to explain to us in understandable way as well as answer all questions patiently. Dr. Yang is a doctor that actually cares about her patient, as she makes sure the product you are getting are essential for you, and she also do a follow-up call to make sure everything is good. Unlike some other places that all they do is trying to sell you the product even though you don't even need it. Couple weeks ago I had a minor hordeolum/ stye eye that I called her that I want to have a visit to her clinic, she told me that I can try to have hot pack on my eyes as well as having lighter diet. After couple days, she called me for the follow-up about my stye eye and I told her everything is all good now. I totally recommend her, she is a very friendly optimist and really cares all her patient. PS: She can speak both mandarin and english fluently and explain situation to patient professionally in both languages. read more

I went here for a thorough exam before having eye surgery. They are nothing short of awesome. The front desk are very patirent, informative, and helped the whole process go smoothly. Dr. Anthony explained every thing going on with my eyes, made recommendations, and never felt pressured to buy from their store (I did, their Kate Spade collection is awesome!). I was very happy with the service I received here. I don't think I have ever had such a thorough eye exam, and had it explained to me in such detail. I got to try 3 different sets of contacts to really figure out which ones worked the best for me, and I am very happy with my resulting good vision. When it came time to pick out frames, Marianne was extremely helpful and spent a lot of time helping me choose. Rose (I hope I got your name right!) was also very pleasant and helpful.
