My house roof ridge wears out and needs a fix. Some contractor with good review came and gave a quote of more than $10k to reroof. Thinking to get some others opinions, I called Dave for an estimate. Dave walked over the roof with a careful check, told me a new ridge is all I need since the other parts of the roof are still in good shape. He also suggested a ridge vent to keep the attic and house cool in the summer. It was May 30 and I asked if he could get the job done in June. What was especially noticeable was the clean-up at the end, both on the roof and around the exterior of the house. I found only one scrap of tarpaper; everything else was picked up. He oversaw the entire process of the new roof, installation of two solar tubes, a skylight, gutters, and gutter screens--no more plugged drains, and abundant light in the living room and the garage! These guys were great. It started with the tear down crew. The teamwork was excellent. They rarely spoke but each guy knew his part and when he needed to stop an help another. The same went for Dave and Nate installing the insulation with the thermal shield and paper followed by the actual composition roofing. The gutters look great and everything was set up just in time for my solar panel company to start their installation. Nate even thought new what Uff Da! meant as well as who Sven and Ole are. Super delayed review: The whole re-roof process took me ~2 months as I received a wide range bids from various roofers. Micah from Cupertino Roofing was the first to provide me a quote and was patient throughout this whole process. He understood that it's a major project -- I can't simply just go with the first quote I get. I ended up going with Cupertino Roofing not just because of the fairly quoted price, but also because of Micah's patience and his quick & prompt response whenever I had questions (by phone, email, text). We even went around the neighborhood and he pointed out the various styles/colors to choose from (in addition to the long list of addresses he provided should I want to look at more roofs). Actual work took about 4 days, starting right before Christmas and going into the holiday week as the rain pushed the work out (due to safety). His team cleaned up at the end of each day and made sure my roof was fully covered so that I would make it through the rain since the new roof wasn't installed yet. Dave the owner came out a few times to check on the work and was just as approachable as Micah. I also had them install a custom sized operable skylight to help cool the attic as it gets really hot in the summer - works amazing! This is a bit late in the coming but I can't tell you how great Micah and Dave were when it came to the whole roofing experience. Last July, we finally bit the bullet and decided to install solar panels on our house. We hadn't done it before because we would have had to re-roof from the old shake roof. Micah was attentive, informative, and just plain great! Along with our own research, he talked us through the different roofing options. They gave us a competitive bid and then went so far as to suggest a solar installer who was just as great, kind, and informative as they were! Their teams---from the guys who tore out the old roof, to the guys who installed the new roof, to the gutter guys---were clean, efficient, and knew their stuff. Micah came by every day there was work being done and made sure everything was running smoothly. They installed the new roof in a week. That kind of clean, efficient service earned them the first four stars. Here's the part that earned them that fifth star for above and beyond service. When the project was done, we needed to put up the canvas awning over the patio. It had been anchored into the roof so had to be removed with the project. Micah and Dave came out, got up on the roof, made sure to put the eye rings into solid wood, and then added sealant to ensure there would be no leaks. *Then* they helped us put up the canvas cover...all while cracking jokes and chatting. Cupertino Roofing removed the old roof on my two story home and installed a new roof mid January 2014. The job was started and completed as scheduled; the final cost the same as the owner, Dave Smith had estimated. The two subcontractors Dave hired to remove the old roof and build and install new roof gutters and down spouts were on time, efficient, and very competent. Most notable was the cleanliness. The outside of the house, inside of the garage, roof, and the grounds surrounding the house were left much cleaner than before the work started. Dave's two 20 year employees, Tom and Tim, who installed the new roof are worth their weights in gold. It was a pleasure to watch these two work as a closely synchronized and efficient team; most of the time without a word spoken. Both men also deserve all the praises given in the preceding two paragraphs. But, a more important additional praise has to be given these two men: they do work they're proud of. Never taking a short-cut, doing a task over if not quite right, staying past normal quitting time if more effort was needed, etc., etc. There are many tens, if not hundreds, of small, medium, and major tasks involved in installing a new roof. Most I never thought of such as color of paint to apply to the chimney and exhaust stacks, sufficient attic heat ventilations, drip edging, city/county inspection criteria. Came out to fix a leak in my garage roof early the day after I called, even though it was raining. When a second leak popped up during the last big storm, inside the house this time, they scheduled me for first available sunny day just a week later. Previous quotes I had received before calling them were scheduling 4-6 weeks out! Work was done quickly, thoroughly, and with photos showing the completed work (including cleaning out gutters, roof valleys, and some patching). They even got up in my attic crawl space to make sure the leak didn't require more extensive work. Two days ago, I noticed a crack in the vaulted ceiling in our bedroom and it was damp. It was in the area under one of our solar panels. I called Clean Solar to ask if they could check it out. For roofing issues they had me call Micah and he was responsive to the situation. However, with the storm it would not be safe for him to access the peaked roof on our 2-story home in Alameda. Meanwhile, the rain got lighter and the area around the crack started to dry out. He scheduled to come out the next morning. When Micah arrived, he assessed the bedroom ceiling, then went onto the roof and did not think the leak was from the solar panel install. There was a pipe jack with a bad pipe collar. He quickly replaced it and today with the new storm, no leak, so far. Cupertino Roofing is a reliable referral and will call them if I have other roofing issues. read more

They were hired by a general contractor to install a new roof and I haven't written a review because of issues with the contractor. But, Cupertino Roofing's customer service the worst. I had water shooting up in the air and over the cutters from rain. I kept calling them and sending them emails and they would not respond. I ended up having to hire another roofer and found out that besides that problem Cupertino Roofing left 10 feet of exposed wood and roofing debris in the gutters. We would have had a real problem with all the rain this past winter. The new roofer had me climb on the ladder to show it to me. They showed up 6 months after I had it repaired but I think that was because I filed a complaint with the CSLB against the contractor that hired them. read more

Dave and his crew from Cupertino Roofing did a superb quality job resurfacing our Metacrylic flat roof and completed it 2 consecutive days. Our roof was 10 years old and needed resurfacing prior to installing a solar system. I received 4 bids with 3 of the bids that included additional work than was not needed - including one that would tear off the whole roof and replacing it with a new one. Dave pointed out exactly what needed to be done and not needed to be done and subsequently was not only the lowest bid but I felt was the best quality bid. He also fixed a valley area of our composition roof. His commitment to his work was apparent when Dave worked closely with the solar installers to make sure their hardware was properly sealed to the new surface, with the correct material, and then took the time to inspected it after the solar stand-offs and rails were installed.
