Being an Independence resident, but knowing somewhat about the history of Kansas City (my dad…read moreworked for KCPL for 35 years, and used to take me up and down those streets), I was vaguely familiar with some of the history. It's quite fascinating. But the little bits and pieces I didn't realize were so deeply important. I'd only been to 2 of the locations on the food tour, Grinders, and Grunaer's. That is funny cause I thought I'd been to more places around the area. The American Royal Parade was going on, and parking was an issue, if I'd not found a spot in Grinder's across the street parking lot, I don't know what I'd have done. I never intend to learn to parallel park. It scares me to death. We met Rebekkah at Grinders, and she presented us with maps of where we were going, with facts on the pages. Frankly, it'd be easier to park kind of in the middle of the tour. That maybe something worth mentioning. I don't know the significance of the Crossroads itself, other than I am drawn to that area, as opposed to the Power and Light District which I try to avoid. There is alot of history in the Crossroads that is important, and it was touched upon in this tour. It also gave me an idea to keep an eye out for other city's walking food tours, as I travel sometimes for a month. I felt like I wanted to know more history. I wanted to dig deeper. I don't know why I feel this way. Maybe I want to know the very importance of the area, besides Tom Pendegrast, which is extremely interesting. The tour touched on a few restaurants along the way. There were a couple I wondered why they weren't mentioned, and I'd love to know the history of the Manny's Building, though Manny's isn't a favorite of mine, the building is interesting. And why is Town Topics just in this area? And Lulu's? Hammer Press as well, even though it's not a place to eat...oh well, can't cover everything...I thought there was something missed, but also alot of interesting history gained. As far as food, each place provided a very small amount. A variety was present and they were able to accomodate both vegetarians and meat eaters. There isn't that much food. I would tell someone that, as well. The places that stood out in my mind were Snow and Company, Grinders, Elbow's and Cafe Gratitude. Tons of walking to get back to our cars. We stopped back at Christoper Elbow Chocolate. Rebekkah created a customer out of me, and I will be eating at Cafe Gratitude and going to Snow and Company. With these thoughts in mind, I would recommend this to an out of towner if you were in the city for a while. But be prepared to eat afterwards. it's a great way to find out about Kansas city and what it has to offer. Knowing the history of Kansas City makes me appreciate it a bit more.

You can also add on the bbq museum to your tour which is a fun stop where you can also learn more about bbq and the different regions in the country. Shout out to John the owner for also being very enthusiastic in his museum creation! Go to the tour hungry! There was so much food! It was all so good!!! We brought our four year old along with us a lap child. I did not expect them to give him any food but they gave him a mini plate at every stop. I was so grateful. I think my favorite part was driving past all the historical sites and getting some of that Kansas City history. Only thing I wish they added was ice cream at the end of the tour . In terms of spice, the BBQ is not spicy to me unless you use a spicy sauce. Everything is dry rub and you add whatever sauce you want. So if you don't like sauce (like my husband) you will still love this tour. Highly highly recommend!! Final note: bring some cash to tip these hard working folk!

He was amazing!…read more The tour started with a 10 minute movie about the history of KC, the distillery and older businesses. The tour was full of interesting information and history. We enjoyed the details and descriptions of the distillery operations. The rick house was impressive. We finished with a tasting of four spirits. The vodka, gin, Kansas City whiskey and coffee liqueur. All were excellent. J. Rieger is the top distillery in the metro, for sure. Highest quality. They even have a spiral slide from the restaurant down to the bottom floor. We enjoyed the tasting room and cocktails outside where we could hear music from Knuckleheads next door. We'd go again and bring more people. So much fun!!

Not the strongest start. Once inside, the atmosphere had its ups and downs. The space itself is beautiful, but some details--like visible weeds and black tablecloths--took away from the overall polish. That said, things started to turn around once we got settled. I had the chance to meet the chef, who was incredibly personable and clearly passionate about his craft. We kicked things off with appetizers, and this is where the kitchen really began to shine. The lobster rangoons and tempura shrimp were both excellent--crispy, flavorful, and well-executed. For entrées, my daughter and sister-in-law both ordered the chef's burger and really enjoyed it. My niece had the steak frites and absolutely loved it. My wife ordered the lemon brick chicken with gnocchi and olive tapenade. After tasting it, I felt the gnocchi could have benefited from a quick sauté in clarified butter, finished with a squeeze of lemon and fresh herbs to bring out the depth the dish promised. I went with the Wagyu burger. The cook on it was spot-on, but the execution fell short. It came topped with three large slabs of bacon hanging well over the sides, making it difficult to eat without taking it apart. After adjusting it myself, I noticed it was under-seasoned--something as simple as a finishing salt would have elevated the richness of the Wagyu significantly. Overall, Ophelia's has a lot of potential. The food shows promise, the chef clearly knows his craft, and the space is visually appealing. With a few adjustments in both service and execution, this could easily become a top-tier spot. I'll be back--and I'd still recommend giving it a try. 4 out of 5 forks.

United upgraded me to first class yay!! There's no much selections in terms of shops and food u liek Chicago O Hare. but getting from TSA checkpoint to B50+ was 10 mins depending how fast you walk.
