J Rieger is one of the coolest spots in KC IMO. So much history and a beautiful space. It is always a good time. They do a seasonal Christmas pop up that we've made a tradition to go to. The food, drinks, and service have been great on all my visits. I still need to do the tour! I will continue to frequent J Rieger and recommend to others. read more

We had a lovely tour of J. Rieger distillery today. Joe was our tour guide. He was amazing! The tour started with a 10 minute movie about the history of KC, the distillery and older businesses. The tour was full of interesting information and history. We enjoyed the details and descriptions of the distillery operations. The rick house was impressive. We finished with a tasting of four spirits. The vodka, gin, Kansas City whiskey and coffee liqueur. All were excellent. J. Rieger is the top distillery in the metro, for sure. Highest quality. They even have a spiral slide from the restaurant down to the bottom floor. We enjoyed the tasting room and cocktails outside where we could hear music from Knuckleheads next door. We've enjoyed coming here several times already, but this was our first distillery tour ( finally! ). The guide was very knowledgeable and engaging. The tour itself had a lot of information, so it made us appreciate this local brand even more. You get to see a lot, except the bottling, as it is at a nearby facility and is not part of the tour (opportunity for an upgrade in the future?). The tour price includes a flight of their 4 signature spirits along with a token for a free cocktail. Second time here. The Electric Ave area was closed which is the only reason we wanted go. We did eat and the Ruben and turkey sandwiches were very good. The appetizer of smoked nuts and seasoned popcorn was a total rip off. The servers knowledge of the drink menu was top notch, however the service lacked in many aspects. We had a reservation during restaurant week for four people at 5:30. Restaurant wasn't full when we arrived but was still pretty busy. We were sat immediately. Then we waited. When are waitress arrived, she asked if we were ready to order but we had no menus. We jokingly asked if menus were provided and she brought us one. One. I asked if we could each get a menu and she brought us one more and told us we'd need to share. Cocktails were ordered and enjoyed. Appetizer ordered, then our meals. We ordered from the RW menu and off the regular menu. The food was good. The portions were small. But the service continued to be poor. At one point, a server, not ours, walked by and grabbed my drink but I wasn't finished with it. Just those little things that add up that make the experience not great. This whiskey tour is a must do, when in KC, MO. The building itself is beautiful and carries great history and weight to it. Our whiskey tour guide was extremely informative and fun. I had some delicious cocktails from J Rieger recently. They put a ton of care into the ingredients used in each drink. I tried a whiskey drink and a vodka ginger drink and both were packed with flavor and not an overwhelming alcohol taste. My husband and I have been to J Rieger a couple times, for an event and a fun summer afternoon with friends. The first time we went, we hung out in Electric Park and played giant jenga, swung on the swings, and tried a few of the cocktails at the outdoor bar. It was so much fun!! They had a frozen drink I don't recall the name of but I remember it was good! The service was quick and we made sure to stop at the store to get a bottle to take home! They have recipe cards and all their liquors available for sale. The food is really dang good! And you can't forget about the slide! Definitely take that as transport from the top floor when you go :-) We haven't taken a tour, but I hear you can! We went to the Kentucky Derby party there and now I can't wait for the next one! There are different ticket levels, we just got the basic one. Even though it was the least expensive, we still had a helluv an experience. There was a huge buffet with sandwiches, biscuits, traditional Derby items like a hot brown, grits, various desserts, and a huge charcuterie table with herby mixed nuts, roasted curry veggies, several cheeses, meats, and jam. I dream about that spread! They had a full custom Derby cocktail menu at the outside bar at electric park, I hope they have some of those in the summer on the regular menu. This establishment has many things to offer. Wish for a tour & tasting of the distilling process? A night cap? Dinner? There is even an indoor slide! We had reservations in the Monogram Lounge as we wished for dinner. Upstairs there is plenty of space and views! Our table enjoyed a variety of cocktails from the menu and a delightful charcuterie board prior to dinner. Service was great--staff very attentive to our table, refills of drinks, etc. Although the entree menu is limited, the portions were perfect. * note: both the salmon & tenderloin were extremely high in sodium--we were able to eat, but would have been happier with about a quarter of the "saltiness." What a wonderful time. I learned things about my city that I didn't know. Rieger was already my favorite whiskey now I love it even more. The tour starts with a 10 minute video about the history of the company and the city which was done beautifully. Next you move on to the production floor. It isn't temperature controlled so be mindful. We went in the summer so it was VERY warm. They do provide water so take advantage. You can opt for a tasting at the end, where you get to sample four of the distiller's creations. Our tour guide was AMAZING. She was knowledgeable and made the tour memorable. We got to do our tasting in the Jacob Barrel room and OMG! What a beautiful space. It's designed to look like a sleek barrel. The intention of the design is beautifully done. We ended the tour by going outside to visit Electric Park. Another beautiful space. There is a bar and a food truck out there. My only regret is that we didn't take a ride on the slide. I've been to J Rieger a couple of times to visit the electric park, but this time around I went for their Sippin' Santa Christmas pop up bar. 10/10 experience! Super fun decor and drinks! The staff were accommodating and were able to help make a substitution for a drink for us. The drinks (as always) were delicious and creative. OMG! A great place to go. We went to celebrate our 43rd Anniversary. We chose J. Reiger based on recommendations and kind of random. I emailed the distillery to just get a better feel for what the experience would be and gauge whether worth the drive in from Columbia, MO. Trisha responded to my emails and really did a 5 star effort in not only coordinating but making recommendations based on my responses to her questions. Joe was the tour guide of the distilling process and he did a GREAT job! Thanks Joe! Trisha not only handled making our reservations, but also requested to be our server in the Monogram Lounge for an early dinner. And she did an awesome job at that also! And we both learned we shared Texas roots! We were scheduled to enjoy some time in the Hey Hey Club, but we ran out of steam for the day and decided to head back home. Came here on a double date with some friends, we were told they had a Christmas pop up bar inside so we decided to check it out. This was my first time ever coming to one and man was I blown away! The tour of this place was the perfect event for my bachelor party. The tour guide had a great relationship with the bachelor party group. We loved learning about the history of KC on the tour. My favorite part was being able to look down in the tanks and see it actively fermenting. Also, the smell of the rickhouse was just perfect. Can't wait to come back here. read more

Electric Park Garden Bar is a blast. Outdoor bar, food truck, cool seating - booths, tables, swings, outdoor games, dog and kid friendly - what else do you need?? Alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks sold. Some of my faves were the: route sixty spritz, caffe' colada - a frozen drink, box car julep and giddy up float with ice cream. Food options include mostly burgers and chicken. Grill cheese, tenders and a salad round out the menu. Vegetarian and gluten options available. The vegetarian burger is a black bean patty with grilled onions and pimento cheese. I had the fried chicken Sammy. It was juicy and delicious. We also tried the chicken tenders and they were a bit tough. Get the truffle parm fries - yum. The regular fries are also very tasty. Staff are super friendly and helpful. If you're a first timer be sure to go to the tasting room and go upstairs to slide down the slide. This is a great spot for groups, couples and friends. Final observation: this spot is environmentally friendly using recyclable flatware and providing recycling and composting receptacles. read more

Visited Electric Park with a couple of friends and had a great time. On a Saturday, it was super busy. Nearly every seat was filled, however the line for the bar/food truck were painless. There's also a QR code assigned to each table, so you can order drinks right to your seat. The drink/food selections were pretty decent, although the frozen drink machine wasn't working during our visit -bummer! Especially enjoyed the seasonal g&t, the gardenia, and the truffle parm fries. Overall, this is a great garden bar experience and I love the history behind Electric Park. There's tons of seating options, from a swing set table, to fire pits, and lounge seats, but note they do fill up fast. I do wish there were more shaded spots/umbrellas available because the sun beaming down does get pretty hot - anytime a group got up from a shady table, people would rush over to snag the spot lol. Despite the heat, our drinks kept us cool and refreshed, and the atmosphere was uplifting and inviting. On a quest to visit all the best happy hour locations in Kansas City and this one is making a good case for being #1! Bottom floor has a self-guided tour area, gift shop and leads to electric park. Dogs are allowed outside and there are great drinks, food and additional food trucks out there. Beautiful space! We went upstairs for happy hour and got a pretzel and the fingerling potatoes to share. Okay what an Awesome experience! My boyfriend and I stopped in this distillery when visiting KC for the day and we Loved how versatile it was!! They had so many different ways to experience the distillery including a tasting room, patio room, museum, upstairs restaurant/monogram lounge, and an outside/garden experience with a food truck, frozen drinks, swing chairs, and music! Each one was a completely different vibe and had different drink options! Your tab can span across all places and you can explore the distillery while you drink as well. They even have a slide connecting the top floor to the bottom floor you can do! We also thought it was cool that you had the opportunity to bottle your own-which is pretty cool. We went during happy hour and got great prices of $6 for our cocktails! Everyone we encountered was also extremely friendly from entrance staff arms wide open (literally) to the bartenders helping us out. We just wanted dinner and to "slide" (no time to do the distillery tour) but was told to make reservations online for "upstairs" at the Monogram Lounge. One point lost due to the slowness - slightly understandable for a Friday night though. Facility: 10/10 - beautiful historic old brick industrial building with hip urban upgrades inside. Loved it! Clean and cozy. Tables not too close together. Some seating are couches with low coffee tables to eat on, some are normal height tables with chairs. Food/Drinks: Drinks: 7/10: My teens asked for Shirley Temples but J.R. doesn't have grenadine (they make most of the drink mixes from scratch so no grenadine). They did instead get a old fashioned cream-sickle soda which they loved. I got a simple coke but it was flat. Boo. Hubby got a martini - he said it was good. Food: (mostly family style and for some reason the food pics aren't in the profile on yelp so you have to look at the reviews). Brussels Sprouts: 10/10 - requested them extra crispy and they were good! Salmon: 10/10 cooked well and seasoned well Pretzel: 7/10: Cheese was not hot and it had an overly condensed milk taste Cheddar drop biscuits: 8/10 - should have been served hot / warm.
