The food is okay, a bit overpriced and not much vegan or vegetarian options. It seems like they just want to make money selling things to people who eat dead animals. Plus when the check came, they gave us another table's check which was double, and they said that they cleared it up, but they wouldn't give us avoided receipt. The story, the waitress told us, and the story, the hostess told us were completely different. So we're still not sure if we got charged over $130 for the other tables check. My check was less than half of that, because I only ate by myself and my party that was with me, just had water. They said they fixed the bill, but they charged my card twice, with no voided receipt, shown to us, so you be the judge. They did give me a free vegan cookie, supposedly it was vegan and when when I got home. It was not fresh at all and I threw it out. read more

****LONG POST INCOMING**** I wanted to take this time to write a through post about an experience we had at Cupitol this Sunday. We are frequent patrons of the Evanston location (Grove Street) and love it. It was my daughter's baptism, and we had many people traveling from out of town, so the Cupitol location near the highway made the most sense. Knowing that brunch service is semi-self service and there are no reservations, I went to the restaurant beforehand to speak to the manager (Vlad) and maître (Racheal) and give them a heads up about my party's intended arrival time and number of guests. They were very receptive and explained while they could make no promises, they would do their best to help accommodate. Fast forward to morning of, our guest count doubled. The manager, Vlad, had made sure that we had space and even worked with the surrounding guests to see if he could move them to other areas in the restaurant to accommodate our party. He did this in a way that didn't feel intrusive or inappropriate to these other parties (I asked them). Since there are no servers for the brunch service, my wife and I collected the orders, and Vlad did his level best in entering in the order with names, food, and beverage options. Everything came out wonderfully and as expected. If there were items that took longer to prepare, he assured guests were informed and asked if there was anything they needed while waiting. A plus. Moving on to the support staff. Luis and Andres worked diligently to help with drinks (not their job), attended to spills(whoops), deliver food, bring condiments (not their job), pre-buss, and did this all will grace and smiles. They did most without asking and helped with any requests we had outside of the scope of their typical requires tasks. Hats off to these rock stars and their colleagues. All of our guests were blown away at the food, drinks, service, and ambiance. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Did I mention there were 8 children! They had food, drinks, and enough space to prevent any potential melt downs. The owner even came by a couple to ensure that everything was up to par (golf reference intended), and we explained that it was far better than that. Birdie, eagle, double eagle, condor, albatross, or ace. Take your pick. I will recommend to anyone, when looking for a place that goes above and beyond, with a staff that will bend over backward for you and guests, Cupitol is the place. Self Serve! One of the most modern self-service restaurants I have been to. You get seated and then order at the counter. We ordered and our food literally came out 2 minutes later! They have cute bistro outdoor patio seating where dogs are allowed, and larger couch seating area in the back for larger groups or to casually work. The orange juice was fresh squeezed and delicious. I had the shroom omelette, hash browns (which I would've liked cooked a little more brown), and wheat toast. Everything was great! I'll definitely be back in the summer with my dogs. read more

Well, this is crazy. I came here last Friday to meet a friend for lunch who I hadn't seen in ages, and it happened to be Good Friday. Apparently the first (and only other) time I came here was Good Friday last year to meet a different friend for coffee. I didn't realize it had been almost a full year since I had been here. I've been wanting to try their food because it always looks so good on Instagram, and I wasn't disappointed. My friend ordered the mediterranean salad and a side of berries and tea, and I ordered the vegan soup of the day (tomato basil) and a side of fries. The fries were probably unnecessary because I didn't read that the soup came with bread, but I ate all of them anyway because they're delicious. Service was great, and we sat there for almost 2 hours and they didn't kick us out (unlike last year, it wasn't that crowded this time. We came at 2pm, so it was not as busy of a time, I guess). We were in the restaurant part, and the vibes are great. As a note: for counter service make sure you tip, as they still have servers bringing out the food for you (it's not like Panera). I feel super bad because I didn't realize that it wasn't included in the price. (We had looked at a few different places online and both Bar Siena and Hampton Social include an 18% gratuity automatically, and I think my brain was thinking that Cupitol also does that. But they do not. So many places do that now, some of which still ask you for an extra tip, so it's hard to keep track). Next time I go I'll tip double. The first time I went to Cupitol at the Old Orchard Mall, the experience was not great. I met a friend here for an early dinner and we stayed for about 2 hours. Within those couple of hours, a staff member came to check on us every 10 minutes (no exaggerations here). It was nice in the beginning since I knew they recently just opened this location, so they wanted to make sure they were providing great service. It became annoying. Our server kept asking if we wanted to order more food. It became irritating. Fast forward to a couple of months, I met up with former colleagues here. It was great to know that they offer Happy Hour food and drinks. For both visits, I've tried: SPREAD TRILOGY- all components were good BLUEBERRY LEMON PANCAKE- delicious FALAFEL BURGER- good flavors but it was overcooked CORTADO- good ESPRESSO MARTINI- great APEROL SPRITZ- good Overall, the second visit was better. We were not interrupted every 10 minutes by anyone. Our server was attentive, pleasant, and efficient. The place is clean, and parking is a hit or miss since this mall can get really busy. The Cupitol is a casual restaurant with an elegant setting, excellent food, outstanding service, and dangerously good cocktails! This was for dinner; breakfast and lunch are "counter service". You order at the counter and the food is delivered to your table. Our appetizers were the Athenian Toast and the Yaiyias Meatballs. Both were amazingly delicious. Our drinks were a Pineapple Tiki Tiki and Metaxa 1885 so refreshing and exhilarating! Braised Lamb Shank. A meltingly tender shank that had me at hello. You can't help but stare at the presentation before the aroma takes over your senses .... and must dig in. Served over a generous portion of whipped potatoes that sit on "bordelaise sauce" so rich you would want to order extra bread to lick every last bit off the plate. Faroe Island Salmon Seafood lovers would appreciate the intense flavor of this salmon with a moist and flaky interior. Prime New York Strip Steak A 12-ounce slice of meat lovers' heaven that was both succulent and delicate. Don't overlook the pasta dishes. They are fantastic! Here's what we tried: 1. Paccheri pasticio Their take on this Mediterranean comfort food is amazing. Shredded beef that melts in your mouth is stuffed into large pieces of cannelloni pasta. Prawns bisque linguine  The rich and intense flavor of bisque is used as a sauce for these large shrimp. Served over a bed of linguine with a hint of sauce that feels surprisingly light. And then comes dessert..... The Basque Cheesecake here is so decadent, it's out of this world. It all had felt too casual and self-serve - ordering at the counter with my assigned table hand-written, a water cup station, and no check-ins at all. This was just not what I was expecting from what I had heard. The food was ok, but overall underdelivered. For my meal, I had gotten the Chicken B.L.T.A. and Matcha Sparkling. The sandwich itself was fine, a standard combination of ingredients. The country white gravy was very runny and soaked the bread quickly, and the bread itself was already not toasted. Nothing really special that I noticed eating it. My drink was fairly plain too, would have preferred a green tea if I knew it would taste very watered down. Additionally, there wasn't much "sparkling" in it, as it was mostly flat. My girlfriend had gotten a bowl of Chicken Bone Broth that was served with some bread. The soup was very standard and had an ok amount of chicken chunks, but not that much of that or anything else. The chicken came out to be slightly dry too. The soup was served in a very wide bowl that was fun, but I understood why it is not too common. The soup quickly cooled and was no longer an enjoyable temperature halfway through, but it was still ok for dipping the bread in afterwards. Sat down for a first date at the Old Orchard location. I'd been to the Evanston one before for a coffee on the run. This one is larger and nicely appointed. Very friendly staff upon entering was seated immediately. Slightly chilly inside but it was a cold wintry evening. Started with the cinnamon tea to warm me up, wait staff was delightful and attentive in refilling it with fresh hot water and little side of honey for me. It was delicious and perfect. Sorry, Cupitol - I feel that the Evanston location is so much better in terms of consistency in the coffee/beverages - we ordered a White Chocolate Mocha and a Latte with almond milk to go, with a pastry (that was incorrectly labeled, by the way) - the drinks were just not prepared well. The White Chocolate Mocha tasted like a latte, with no flavoring, whatsoever; the Latte was mostly steamed milk. Service was friendly, but note that after 4 PM, you are to be seated in the dining area to order off the menu; you can also order coffee/pastries as well, but you'll have to know which pastries to order from the case, since they're not listed on the menu themselves. Kind of inconvenient, as you would think there is a better process to this (order up at the cashier, be provided a table number, and have these called out or delivered to your table, perhaps?). I recently had light dinner at Cupitol Old Orchard and maybe that is not the first place that you think to have dinner at because of its popularity for breakfast. The dinner here was as good as well. I had the Cobb salad and it was fresh, well mixed and tasted very very good. I also tried one of their hot teas and was impressed by the variety and beautiful presentation. Service was very friendly and I enjoyed my dinner. Cupitol is a very mediocre, cookie-cutter brunch spot. You don't get waited on; instead, you walk in, receive a number and a menu, wait in line to order at a kiosk, then seat yourself and wait for your food. Everything is self-serve, even your water and condiments, so it definitely has a fast food feel, in that respect. I am hopeful that this is not the direction that sit-down restaurants are going in; however, I understand this is a casual place and it's nice not to have to worry about tipping sometimes. This is my first visit to any Cupitol and I had some pretty high expectations considering the reviews I had read about all the other locations. Upon walking into this location at old Orchard for the first time on a random Sunday afternoon, first of all, there were a ton of people standing around, waiting to be seated and the place was completely packed. Please note there is no waiting area if you were waiting for a table, there was also no waiting area if you are doing a to go order and I have to wait for your drinks and food to get packed up. I took the food to Go opened it all up at home and here's where things continue to go downhill The lattes were OK and we ordered two different ones. First a regular latte and a Nutella latte. Well they do some simple art with the foamed frost milk, which is fantastic. The cups aren't really fully filled and they are not that hot. The blueberry scone barely had any blueberries once you took a bite, and it was like a game of trying to find the blueberries. The cheese danish had a very impressive dough. However, the cheese itself was bland, and the entire danish was not sweet. The cinnamon roll while it looks impressive and it warms up well. Isn't something to write home about. The raisin Danish as well looked pretty good from the case but again it was another game of find the raisins once you took a bite. I have to say that this was a little disappointing. I expected more and considering all of the bakeries around the Chicago area they really need to step up their game. Also, the fact that you're paying a premium of food tax at old Orchard makes it hard for me to justify the expense. read more

The service here is hit or miss if I am honest. They do not ask you for your number for rewards so if you don't tell them it is lost. Their email customer service has not gotten back to me and it has been nearly 3 months since I reached out about getting my points added from my receipt. The food is a 5/5 always light and not overly greasy. The price is decent for the type of food they have but it is a bit pricier than other breakfast spots. This is mostly a self service kind of place. You come in through the doors and they will ask if you want to dine in. If you say yes they will give you a table number. When ordering the table number is what you will tell the clerk. This is a decent spot for breakfast or as a cafe the ambiance is nice but it can get noisy depending on when you are there. read more

I went here last year and their entrees are to die for. My girlfriend at the time had the lamb shank and it was so tender and I ordered their one of their steak entrees and it was cooked to perfect. This new restaurant has opened in the space that was once the Corner Bakery. It's certainly had a glow-up though; very sleek and sophisticated with an all black exterior. It's larger than their other locations and a lot more spacious. When you enter, there's a counter--based upon some of the other reviews, it sounds like you order at the counter whether you're eating in or to go. I picked up a couple drinks and breakfast sandwiches. Cupitol's drinks are fine, nothing special to write home about and but their breakfast sandwiches are super delicious. I'm not a croissant person but their croissants are so good, and elevate their breakfast sandwich. They also cook the bacon totally through which seems to be a rarity nowadays, much to my chagrin. I think I'd like to eat in sometime. I wonder also if they have will have some outdoor seating in the warmer months. They add a "service tip" automatically, at least when you order online. So check your bulk to make sure you understand what you're being charged. In some ways, they paid careful attention to detail with regards to accessibility, but in other ways they made some funny choices. They don't have an automatic door opener button to enter the restaurant so it might be hard for somebody who uses a walker or a wheelchair to get in particularly if they are by themselves, though the door does swing open both directions. There are three bathrooms--two that are barely more than a closet--and one that's significantly larger that is accessible (and also includes a changing station). The accessible bathroom has a door that pushes in while the other two have door that open into the hallway, which is another of those thoughtful accessibility details. read more

A friend and I stopped in for lunch this afternoon. Cupitol is in the old Corner Bakery space across from Bloomies. A staffer gave us a table number while we made our selections. You place your order at the counter and they bring your food out to you. There's a handsome bakery case with croissants and another with petite tarts and slices of cake. There's a mix of breakfast dishes, sandwiches and salads. My friend ordered a shroom patty melt and I ordered a shroom omelet. We also split a pistachio croissant, large and prettily striped, flaky and filled with almond cream. The little two-bite tarts were attractive although the pastry shell was a little soggy. My omelet was nicely cheesy, had sliced mushrooms and hashbrowns as well as toast with bread and butter. Nice. My friend thought the patty melt was delicious. I asked them if they would have liked more onions and they agreed a tad bit more onions would have been good. This is a nice and comfortable space with lots of small tables and velvet/ plush chairs, with an airy feeling and lots of windows. It was quite full when we dined. The OG CB has been upgraded. When you walk in, all the pastries were gorgeous and delicious looking. You order in the front and they give you a number and you go sit and they bring the food to you. I got the country Benedict. I wished the biscuits weren't so dry. My husband got the Spanish chorizo bowl. There was barely any chorizo in the dish. We got the pastries in the front, it's nice to see that they have mini ones and bigger versions. The fruit tart was our favorite. Cupitol ("the capitol of food & coffee") is owned by the Georges family of the successful Elly's chain. Yep, these folks know the breakfast/brunch biz backwards and forwards. The Westfield Old Orchard café is their 4th location. Few eateries in this area span breakfast/brunch/lunch/dinner, so the wide-ranging menu replete with wine, beer and cocktails truly fills a void. It's a very upscale café with an urban vibe. As you enter the front room, stanchions funnel you towards the bakery counter where you place your order (the bar opens at 11 AM). Beneath three elegant chandeliers, the décor of the bright high-ceiling main dining area is otherwise minimalist. A lounge at the far end of the room offers comfortable seating in a more intimate setting. There are three individual gender-neutral restrooms. Service is also minimalist. You order at the counter and the cashier assigns you a numbered table. A server brings your food and beverage. Or, just take your goodies into the laptop-friendly lounge area. Coffee refills are free, but you need to bring your cup to the front counter. The menu offers both caloric and healthy choices. Don't expect rock-bottom diner prices or supersized portions of average-quality food here. Bakery items are prepared in Cupitol's West Loop bakery and delivered fresh daily. The Missus and I shared a blueberry scone and it was a wow, moist and bursting with fresh blueberries. We both ordered breakfast sandwiches ($10). Hers was on an exceptionally good butter croissant. I ordered mine as a keto wrap ($2 upcharge), but they didn't have any so they substituted a whole wheat wrap (no upcharge). Which was fine, except that the wrap could have been at least 25% larger (I observed that the portions of other dishes emerging from the kitchen were more generous). Their coffee is superb. Oh, we will definitely be back to work our way through other breakfast, lunch and dinner items whose menu descriptions look appealing. read more

Had a couple of their sandwiches which were a bit dry and overpriced for a casual spot. But tasty enough where I'd still come back for the vibe. The fries were excellent. The drinks were good. We had aperol spritz's which were nice. The food was pricey for a casual spot and the ordering process is a bit of mess. I don't expect to stand in line and pay upfront to order cocktails in that atmosphere. At that point just run normal checks. Overall not bad. I tried out Cupitol's new restaurant concept at Old Orchard on a Sunday morning at 9am. The interior is modern and classy with plenty of cozy seating. Upon entry, there are pastries and desserts and the counter to place your order. My friend and I both had the CBH+Eggs, which is their corned beef hash with poached eggs. It was tasty and came with toast, butter, and jam. There are plenty of other beverages, including a thorough coffee bar, lots of lunch items plus a dinner menu so I'll have to come back and try it. I will definitely be back for pastries as well! Everyone was very friendly and accommodating! The place was clean and well lit. My only concern is that it can get tight around the entrance if a lot of people enter at the same time to place to go orders, but I am sure the flow will improve as this business continues to grow. read more

On December 26 at 4:30 PM, after an especially long work week and a demanding day, I decided to stop by Cupitol in Old Orchard Mall for a well-deserved dinner during happy hour. I ordered a cocktail and a Caesar Salad, expecting a relaxing dining experience. Unfortunately, my visit did not meet even basic expectations of quality or service. As I began my meal, I discovered hair in my salad. I immediately brought this to the server's attention; he appeared surprised, took the plate away, and after a short time returned to ask, "Another one, right?" I declined and requested that the item be removed from my bill and asked for the check. The issue was handled mechanically--without a sincere apology, acknowledgment, or any effort to recover the situation. When I asked to speak with a manager, I explained that my concern went beyond the food issue itself--it was about the complete lack of response or recovery. The manager apologized and asked if there was anything she could do, but at that point, the gesture felt more procedural than genuine. I rarely write reviews, as I understand that mistakes occur in food service. However, a foreign object in food is a clear violation of quality and sanitation expectations outlined in Illinois restaurant safety standards. Incidents like this should be treated with care, transparency, and urgency to ensure guest confidence and safety. We are living in a time when dining out is increasingly considered a discretionary luxury. Guests should feel that their experience matters, especially when they choose to support local establishments. Unfortunately, Cupitol fell short on every front--from food quality to service recovery. As I finished my Passion Fruit Mojito and looked around, I noticed other guests receiving friendly and attentive service. Meanwhile, my experience remained unresolved--a disappointing reminder that basic hospitality and accountability are, regrettably, no longer guaranteed. read more

Came in just to get tea and coffee. It's busy here! You order at the counter then find a table. We weren't hoping to stay but the menu looked good to try the food next time. Good tea! Hibiscus. No caffeine and warmed us up since it was so cold outside. Coffee is just eh but their baked goods looked good. Could be where they shine. Tons of parking since it's part of the Old Orchard Mall.
