Ive had more than my share of milk teas here in the US, overseas in the land of boba, Taiwan, and in HK and this place sadly fell short of what it could be. First, their location is very inconvenient unless you are on foot, which may be great for U of MD students, but if you are in a car, its a disaster when it comes to parking. This business even has a sign saying ask about a parking pass and they are not responsible if your car is towed. This alone makes this place already super unattractive. I fought my instincts and gave this place a try, but honestly, felt like I wasted $12. They have a digital kiosk where you can order your drinks and I chose a HK style milk tea (hot) with less sugar and also a jasmine milk tea with boba. The ordering for the jasmine tea was weird because it has an option to choose $1 extra for boba but if you scroll a little further down, you can get boba, no extra charge. I thought that was a bit sneaky, which I didn't appreciate. I waited about 15 min and then my order was ready. The HK style milk tea was supposed to be in a glass container but I only saw the sign after I ordered that they didnt have glass containers. That really sucked. The other issue is that when my HK style milk tea (hot) was ready, it was barely warm, which also was disappointing as it was a bit cool outside and I wanted something hot to warm me up. The HK milk tea also wasn't that great either, nothing special. I've had HK milk teas for about $2 elsewhere and they were great, but this was overpriced and lukewarm. I wont be ordering this again. The other drink seemed OK as I ordered it for someone else. I also thought this place was kind of dirty and could have been more clean. Not sure why the windows looked so dirty. I found the place kind of gross and it just didnt feel as clean as I like businesses to be. Overall, a pretty underwhelming experience. I've visited a lot of the boba tea shops around UMD and I adore this one. Among the dozen or so boba shops, Cuppa leans into being a little piece of Hong Kong here on Baltimore Ave. The boba menu is small but thoughtful. While they don't have a million flavors like some of the others, the drinks just taste of higher quality than some shops where they have 25 flavors but it all tastes like powdery flavored water. As I said, the teas taste fresher and a little more special. The bakery stuff and foods are a cute little treat. Not sure where they are made but I love being able to pick up asian pastries without having to trek to Rockville or Ellicott City. And of course, the fresh bubble waffles to go with your boba tea. When you walk in, there is a kiosk to self order but it is right next to the ordering counter. So it seemed kind of pointless to have it so close together because depending on who is ordering at the counter, they may be irritated that you are so close to them while they are ordering from the employee. It is so close that you are able to visibly see the numbers on the payment card while the system slowly reads and accepts it. With that being said, you might as well just wait in line to order from the employee then get yelled at by another customer for being so close to them. If they reposition the ordering kiosk a little farther from the ordering counter, it would give the customer a little more privacy. Ordered cold milk tea and they served it in a resealable glass container. The lady at the counter was boasting about how amazing the tea was because they brew it themselves, but I was not impressed. It tasted a little watered down in my opinion. Also ordered a classic bubble waffle, which was the perfect amount of sweetness. It was nice and fluffy and was a hit with some of the children with me. They have a lot of seating and tables to sit down and enjoy the sweet treats which was nice. They are family friendly and have plenty of board games to choose from if you wanted to play with your family or friends. The only thing that I was not happy about, was that they don't automatically give you the receipt or ask if you want it. And they automatically charge for a plastic bag when you order a bubble waffle. The silly thing about this is, they serve the waffle to you in a little paper bag and then place it in the plastic bag. If I were to tell them I don't need a bag when they were about to give it to me, I would have paid for something that I did not want and they wouldn't have told me. It is quite strategically wrong to get the customer to pay for a plastic bag without asking them if they needed a plastic bag to begin with. The venue is super cute chic and clean. The cafe had a little telephone booth like in London. I think it's just for show, but it was a nice touch. Been to Cuppa Tea a few times now. Have tried a few of the pastries along with the milk teas and coffee. Ordering at the kiosk the first time was a bit confusing. I'm sure I'll get the hang of it by the end of first semester at UMD for my niece though! All the drinks have been great. I like that you can adjust the sweetness and the amount of ice. I haven't tried the fruit teas yet, but will try next visit. All the pastries I've tried so far have been yummy. I'm partial to the pineapple butter bun! Just as Cuppa Tea is dangerous for my waistline, the parking garage is a bit intimidating for my car! If you're going to park, be sure to enter on the south entrance to enter the retail/restaurant garage area. The north side is the exit for the garage. As soon as I stepped inside, I was greeted by a wonderful and inviting aroma. I ordered a mango milk with bubbles and a chocolate egg waffle. The mango milk was honestly amazing, and the chocolate egg waffle was very delicious. The waffle was crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. My son and I enjoyed it so much we finished it quickly. I'm looking forward to returning to try more of their pastries. I highly recommend giving the mango milk a try. I love getting their Signature Milk Tea and Sweet Velvet Milk Tea (both come in glass bottles, but only without toppings)! I'll have to try the Coffee Milk Tea (also comes in glass bottle), but I'm sure it's delicious. The bottles are hefty and quality, and I think you can bring back to refill for 10% off! Even the Mango Passionfruit Jelly Iced Tea is good, but can get bitter at the end. Their boba is perfectly chewy and sweet. I've enjoyed their Egg Waffle and Pineapple Butter Bun sooooo much. The waffle is just like the ones at the Asian mall in Toronto (fond childhood memory)! So crispy AND soft qt the same time. The pineapple bun is better not toasted and letting the butter melt slowly. My friend and I shared the "Fresh Taro Pearl Milk Tea" with 0% sugar (only options were 0%, 50%, and 100%) and it was pretty tasty! The boba had a nice chew and was already sweetened, I believe. There were real taro chunks (pretty small bits) in the drink that enhanced the drink nicely. I really enjoy having real taro in my boba drinks since most places with taro drinks tend to use taro powder. The milk and tea ratio wasn't too bad either, but if I recall correctly, more milk taste than tea. Overall, I'd recommend this drink and happy that we tried Cuppa Tea while we were visiting College Park. It's a bit expensive, but if you want good boba, this place is worth a try. They also have some small snacks and apps that are worth sharing. Definitely will get some of those the next time I go. read more

This recently opened tea & pastry shop has a lot to offer! They serve handcrafted bubble tea (that goes through a HK tea pulling technique as seen on the video) and Hong Kong style snacks. They come in these glass bottles and if you bring them back you can get 10% off your drink! I think my favorite thing was the golden cheese toast which is a grilled cheese with condensed milk on top. A sweet and salty combo! The pineapple butter bun was good but didn't taste as fresh. Egg waffle was good and made to order. I enjoyed the hotdog buns and other breads that were there for purchase. Not sure if they get them fresh daily but they were refilling while I was there so I got them fresh. They also offer small mousse cakes which were tasty. And as a consumer of all things Asian style tea drinks, I have been to a decent amount of bubble tea shops. And I say all of the former because I'm A) Incredibly loquacious, but B) Cause I want to qualify the next statement: Cuppa Tea is a bit different. *Wait... he said all that... to say that... sighs... here we go* Yes! Cuppa tea is a bit different in atmosphere, in offering, in feel, and in taste. But how: First off is the obvious, their milk tea and coffee milk tea is sold pre made in glass bottles that sit in a refrigerated display in front of the store. Unique drinks can be made into the bottles too as I requested milk tea with no added sugar. Wait... if it's premade in bottles... it can't be that good right? Wrong. I'm telling you, this was some of the most delicious milk tea and coffee milk tea I've tasted in or out of dodge. Second, Cuppa Tea is proud of it's Hong Kong heritage which is apparent throughout decor in the store. Third, Cuppa tea has this adorable little pastry table filled with Hong Kong style baked goods, some savory and some sweet. Fourth, Cuppa tea makes bubble waffles to order and it's right behind the counter so you can see the whole process. The waffles when being cooked fills the entirety of the space with a scent trail that would wingardium leviosa any 90's cartoon by the nose. And Fifthly, Cuppa tea has a separate Hong Kong style drink section that is filled with unique beverages like fresh banana milk, Hong Kong style malted milk, and Southern Aroma coffee. If Cuppa Tea was closer to me, it would surely be a dangerous proposition.... as far as my budget for ordering drinks outside of my home goes. I can honestly say that it is some of the most tasty tea I've had, and though I didn't get boba in my milk tea ( I know a bit of sacrilege - but B's on a diet), it was truly such a treat to have. Located directly next to Lao Hot Pot, my best recommendation would be to go gorge on AYCE hot pot and save just a tiny bit of room for tea afterwards.
