This was my first time to Cuppa Tea. I was told about the pineapple butter bun being a thing. I've visited East Asian countries before and tried all sorts of stuff but had never heard about the butter bun. We went out of the way to find this place. It's funny how we were just in Rockville and didn't know that there was a location there too. We came here on a Monday afternoon so it was easy to find parking in the garage and there were plenty of seats. The egg waffles were decent. I prefer them be be crispier but I know that a lot of shops serve them soft like this. The butter bun was what we came for. This is my first eating something with a chunk of butter instead of it being fixed in with something or spread over something. It is conveniently located near UMD College Park campus and has its own parking lot, it is my go-to dessert spot after a lunch meet-up. They sell their house Hong-Kong style milk teas in an old-school glass milk bottles that you could take home and reuse. Their teas taste good, like real tea, not powder teas. Their coffee is OK. Honestly, the coffee (with milk and sugar) tastes like Maxim mixed coffee. I don't think I would order it again. Their breads are also decent. They have a selection of coconut cream, coconut buttercream, scallion bacon, and hot dog buns. All of them are very decent in quality and they sell day-old bread as buy-one-get-one deal. Finally had the chance to come down and try the tea. I wasn't sure how I felt about the idea of some of the snacks but I ended up loving everything we ordered. It's also nice that if you bring back the reusable glass bottles they will take 10% off your orders in the future. We ordered the mango sago, signature milk tea, golden cheese toast, and the pineapple butter bun. Everything came out in a timely manner and I loved how it came in a tray while we sat inside. The golden cheese toast sounded really good and came out nice and hot and toasty. The pineapple bun surprised me, living in Montgomery County I have tried a lot of pineapple buns but never with a slice of butter! It was warm and toasty, not as sweet as other pineapple buns but had a nice salty hint from the butter. It was a good blend of flavors as a snack with a sweet drink. This was my second time coming here and I don't think I'll be coming back. I'll start off with the PROS, I ordered the Sunset Orange Iced Tea and it is super refreshing, I really enjoy this drink! So 2 stars there since it was actually good. Unfortunately, that's the only positive thing I have. For CONS, both times I have come, I waited quite awhile for my drink(s). The first time I came I ordered 3 drinks and it took 30 minutes, it wasn't too busy, but a consistent crowd so I gave them the benefit of the doubt and decided I would still come back. Today, I ordered 2 drinks and the curry fish balls. I placed my order at 12:35 and didn't get my order until 1:07. Idk, 30+ minutes seems really unreasonable for 2 drinks and fish balls. I went up and asked to check up on my order when it hit the 30 minute mark and they said the fish balls had just finished and was getting them for me. The guy was apologetic about the wait which I appreciate, but it definitely was still frustrating because I had a 1 year old waiting in the car with my husband. If I knew the fish balls were going to take 30 minutes I wouldn't have ordered them in the first place. Also note that you get charged 10 cents for a bag fee regardless of getting a bag or not and I was also charged a 50 cent convenience fee, not sure if that only applies to the kiosk (which is where I ordered) All in all, the drink isn't worth the wait. read more

We tried the taro pearl milk tea (with brown sugar), pineapple fruit jelly iced tea, and lemon iced tea. The drinks were high quality, with chunks of real taro and fresh fruits in each sip. The sweetness of the drinks can be customized, and the teas are served in beautiful high quality cups that we ended up keeping instead of throwing them out. They even have some teas packaged in cute glass containers, which makes great options to buy as gifts. What helps this boba shop stand out from its competitors are its cafe menu selection. It offers many different snacks, including egg waffles, pineapple butter bun, and curry fish balls. We tried the ehg waffles and pineapple butter bun, both of which were fresh and delicious! With its fast and friendly service, relaxing setting with plenty of seating, and great menu offerings, this place makes for an excellent study spot! I only wish that I could be a UMCP student again in order to frequent this more often. The bubble tea and food are all great. The ambiance is cool too. The service is unfortunately infuriatingly slow. I've tried them a few times now. I thought at first they were new and just had to iron out some kinks. Apparently not... it's been a year now since the first time I tried them and every time it's the same... wait cover 30 minutes for bubble tea. They give you a time which says around "20 minutes" and you think "oh wow, I'm sure it won't take that long..." then that 20 minutes comes and goes and you're still waiting. Often when they finally call your order something is missing. They say, "sorry, 5 more minutes" but you wait another 15. Hire more staff, get more equipment, whatever it takes... this is insane. Hong Kong style bubble tea place!! A recently new bubble tea location near college park with authentic Hong Kong style snacks and bubble tea. It was quite a drive, but so WORTH IT! For drinks I got both the fresh lemon iced tea and the mango passion fruit jelly iced tea. Where do I even start.... DELICIOUS!!! Both taste very authentic, not too sweet and the fruit tasted soooo fresh (yes, they use fresh fruit). For the snack, I ordered the curry fish ball, missing it so much since my trip to New York, and it really felt nostalgic. The curry flavor was strong and the fish ball was hot, nice, and chewy. There's seating inside and the place is super nice and clean. They made this environment to imitate the Hong Kong town style which makes them so different from other bubble tea places in the area. Overall, if I could get this everyday, I totally would. There is a small parking garage between their shop and the hotpot place next door, but the parking spaces are super cramp, so if you have a large car it might be a bit tough to park. Cuppa Tea has a surprisingly large seating area and serves up various food dishes amongst its boba offerings. I ordered the Pineapple Butter Bun and the Cold Red Bean Pearl Milk Tea. The Pineapple Butter Bean was a clear favorite between the two. The taste was the epitome of comfort! The bun was warm on the outside, and the contrasting cold butter had the perfect amount of salt. The milk tea, however, was slightly disappointing. I felt like the tea flavor wasn't strong enough, and I wish that the red beans were actually on top of the drink, as advertised. The combination of the red beans and the boba being at the bottom of the drink made it difficult to actually sip up the two, leaving you with a pile of boba and red beans at the end, but no milk tea. I would definitely go back for the Pineapple Butter Bun, but not the milk tea. read more

Convenient location and delicious teas. There is no Asian bakery close enough to where I live so whenever I come to this area, I stock up on the bread for breakfast for my daughter. She loves the bacon bread (and bubble brown sugar milk). My husband likes the hotdog one. Parking spaces are so small, so my minivan can't help but take two spots. I tried the Signature milk tea and it came with a glass container that I can keep! I recently had an extremely unpleasant experience with the drinks and snacks from the store, which I found to be far from hygienic. (I ordered the drinks and snacks from FanTuan App). Shortly after consuming one of their beverages, I was afflicted with high fever, severe stomach ache and diarrhea, a distressing situation that directly resulted in my inability to attend work for several days. I have never had that serious food poisoning for years. I also guarantee I did not even any not unsanitary food before eating anything from Cuppa Tea. Food is just about 3 stars but I deduct 2 stars for their misleading marketing and pretending to be a famous brand from Hong Kong. Dont know where the claimed 800 stores worldwide are either. Simple google cannot turn up any other stores in Asia. They only have one store in Maryland, one in NY and maybe 4 in Canada. This is 'Kwong' Fong Yuen, not the Famous 'Lan' Fong Yuen in Hong Kong which probably has 800 stores world wide. The 'Kwong' character looks very similar to the 'Lan' character in Chinese. I think its obvious they want you to think they are Lan Fong Yuen. Its ashamed that they deploy such tactics, their drinks and foods are decent enough to be called their own. I am very disappointed at their misleading and deceptive marketing tactics. read more

Excellent milk tea. Some places get the milk to tea ratio off and it ends up being too milky. I got the amber pearl milk tea (less sugar) and it was delicious. Icy tea with warm pearls at the bottom. This place will surely be competing with Gongcha and KungFu Tea in the area. They do not offer dine-in atm but I hope that changes because they had a very nice, cozy space. I'd make this my go-to morning caffeine spot if it wasn't $5.00. The egg puffs were okay. It wasn't crispy enough but they're fairly new so hopefully they'll improve. The taste of tea is much stronger than all of the other bubble tea shops. The store is well designed, clean and spacious, and the service was also very friendly.
