Plenty of cabinet space and drawers. The kitchen also has a large double stainless steel sink and faucet. The wall across from the kitchen has a large closet for storage and also a full size GE washing machine and dryer. The living room has plenty of room for a large recliner, a grandfather clock, a 65 inch Samsung TV and a large double door cabinet where I have my 27 inch iMac computer. Between the recliner and outside wall I also have a 36"x36" pedestal table, where I have a large hammered copper lamp with shade. The two walls forming the corner behind the recliner and grandfather clock, have two large glass windows covered by Venetian blinds. Moving through the lockable door into the bedroom there is room enough for a queen sized bed, and a three drawer cabinet with lamp. The outside wall has a large window covered with Venetian blinds. Sliding double doors lead into a closet with plenty of room for hanging shirts, and with shelves that hold baskets for socks, and underwear. Under the shelf on the right there is room for a large four drawer cabinet where I can store pajamas and a large collection of various shoes. A single sliding door leads into a spacious bathroom, complete with a shower, toilet, and lavatory. There are two spacious cabinets and drawers next to the shower. Another reason I picked this third floor apartment is that it is located next to the fire escape stairs. I never use the elevators because I like the exercise I get walking up and down the stairs. My apartment is also located at the very end of this wing of The Reserve apartment complex. Consequently I don't hear or see any of my neighbors. Thanks for your time and attention. From the activities, to the food, to the full time nurse on staff, to the overall love and affection she received, Arden Courts was exactly what we hoped it would be. At one point I said to one of my brothers after observing a particularly poignant moment of their work, "The staff here are like saints." He reminded me of this when I told him I was going to write a review. I've been reflecting on this review since I first moved my elderly parents into this facility a…read moreyear and a half ago. I hesitated to write a review earlier, because I did not know if it would affect their care. Sadly they have now both passed. If I could have offered this feedback directly and felt that it would be heard, I would have done that. But my strong impression dealing with the management here is that they are not interested in feedback and do not view it as a way of learning or improving as a business, but rather as a waste of time and a source of resentment. So I just want to make sure others have an informed understanding of what they are getting themselves into here. The kind of review that I wish I had had myself when I first uprooted my parents, both of them with advanced Parkinson's Disease, and moved them across the country from Pennsylvania to live here. Highlights: - The facility is very beautiful. That was what I was sold on originally. - The sales team is kind and good at their job. I feel that they did their best to lean in and smooth the way for my parents and for me, even though when it came to actual management of the residence, that went beyond their scope. - There are many individual nurses and caregivers who are very caring and good at their jobs. - Overall I believe that the facility is mismanaged. The leadership of the center is inaccessible. They do not come to work. They do not pick up their phones. They do not respond to emails. There are no company email lists that allow you to get greater visibility for your communication so that someone higher up will hold the facility accountable to respond--your email goes into an individual email inbox where it is largely ignored. - The nurses and caregivers are not actively managed. No one helps them organize themselves or facilitates communication. No one is present to see first hand when they are over-stretched and cannot handle all of the individual needs on their floor. This results in some pretty serious mismanagement of medication. One time I discovered purely by accident, because I happened to visit, that my father had not received his Parkinson's medication for 3 days, because they had not re-ordered it from the pharmacy or had some type of snag. And they did not call me or make sure that it was resolved. They just let the medication lapse. - Once I saw that was happening, I went far, far, far out of my way to create written medication schedules to try to ensure medication was administered correctly. Multiple times my father himself caught incorrect medication, even though he was barely in a cognitive state to be able to do that and it was very unfair for him to have to be concerned with it. Again, I do not attribute this to the nurses. They are good, well meaning people who want to do their jobs. I attribute it to management that does not put in place systems for them or help organize things or ensure good communication. They just are sort of left there to function as best as they can without leadership. - Most of the nurses / caregivers they hire are good, but some are NOT good. Early on, there was a nurse on the team who got into a very adversarial relationship with my mother, trying to force her to go to bed or to get up or something that she did not want to do. When I came to visit after a week trip I found her in a paranoid, delusional state, convinced that someone was trying to hurt her. Of course she was very sick and it was basically a delusion. But when I interacted with that nurse myself, I understood why she felt that way. He was aggressive and controlling. They did promise to fire that nurse. But then on a future occasion I came back and found him there. I had to complain again. - Memory care is a bit better. But primarily it is better because once someone is on hospice, they have access to a separate hospice provider who comes INTO the facility to provide care. And that hospice provider is excellent, top to bottom. I cannot possibly say enough good things about them. But they are not employed or managed by the center. They just come in on a daily basis to provide care. - In the last month of my father's life, he developed very severe delusions arising out of Parkinson's related dementia, and became aggressive. It was very sad and very hard to watch. My father was a mild-mannered mathematician all his life. It simply was not him or his character to behave in the way he did. - I was so upset by the way the facility handled this. They called the police on him. I had to drop everything and rush over to keep them from escalating past a point of no return. When I went up to the apartment, Brenda, the leader in charge of AL, was smirking and laughing at him and his delusions. It turned my stomach. It still keeps me up at night. If you have your parents or loved ones here, please be prepared to work directly with the staff yourself to ensure communication & good care. It requires constant vigilance.

My mom was struggling physically/mentally and would just moan. One caregiver told her to be quiet multiple times. Another one refused to help because she had asked for too much help. One was busy on her phone and didn't bother to put my mom to bed so my mom fell asleep on her recliner. I tried to talk to the person assigned to me for staffing and she didn't answer texts/calls. I cancelled with her because the people that they were sending were so bad, that it was better to have no one. I got no answer till after the weekend and I was told that I needed to give more notice. I explained that I tried to give notice, but that person wasn't answering their phone. They sent one last person out that they claimed was their best and no one had every complained. After that person got my mom to sleep, she turned tv to the station she wanted (in room next to my mom) and then started calling friends on the phone and talking loudly over the tv. Find your own caregivers. Staffing agencies send people that couldn't get jobs on their own.

A lot of people in and out to visit and hospice was there almost every day. They were so welcoming and accommodating and kind with everyone. More important was the incredible care they gave our dad. They couldn't have treated him with more attention, love, and skilled care. They consistently reported back to us how things were going in detail and were in lock-step with hospice. We felt so relieved to have him in such a wonderful place. And, it is clean, has a large parking area... a very comforting and homey feel.

The Grove is different than other luxury communities in that if a person moves into Independent Living and experiences a decline in health necessitating increased care (Assisted Living or Memory Care) the additional services come to the resident, and the resident does not have to relocate to a new apartment in Assisted Living or Memory Care. This is a very nice accommodation! Also, the Grove employs their own "Nursing Staff" who can attend to residents when there is a fall, skin tear, etc. The resident does not have to go to the doctor or an ER to get checked out. The nursing staff comes to see the resident in their apartment. The Grove is centrally located in Austin and has several restaurants within walking distance of the community. The streets are well-lit, and the sidewalks are new and wide enough to accommodate individuals who use walkers or wheelchairs and there seems to be plenty of parking. Many more pluses in the services offered in this community. Well worth stopping by to see if this community is fit for your family member or loved one.

At one point in the conversation she stated "How did you even get in here?". What concerned me most, however, were the subtle but unmistakable racial undertones in the interactions--particularly in the difference between how I was treated compared to the other guest.

A Heartbreaking Experience at Palmer Woods Memory Care When…read moresearching for a place for a loved one to spend their later years, always take a close look at the memory care unit--whether you think you'll need it or not. Unfortunately, I learned this the hard way. My father moved into Palmer Woods in September 2024. Initially, we were impressed by the beautiful facility, special chef-prepared dinners, happy hours, and affordability within his income. However, I did not thoroughly evaluate the memory care unit, as I didn't anticipate needing it. This was a devastating mistake. On his first night at Palmer Woods, my father suffered a stroke. After an evaluation, the facility determined he needed to be placed in memory care. He entered memory care fully capable of walking and talking. By the time I moved him out, he was in a vegetative state. I firmly believe this was due to the excessive medication he was given to make him easier to manage, as he was very active and required attention. Our monthly cost jumped to $6,400, with additional charges bringing our final bill to over $7,000. At move-in, we were offered a special plan: paying $5,000 upfront (instead of $2,500) for a $400 monthly discount. I opted for this plan, a decision I deeply regret. The conditions in the memory care unit were appalling once I had the chance to really look around. I did everything for my dad and I was not doing a good job. The staff was overworked and underpaid--many openly admitted it. One evening, I was locked out of the unit, and the front desk informed me that only two caregivers were working that night for over 30 residents. A staff member even advised me to contact Hospice because my father was not receiving adequate care. Hospice confirmed my worst fears. They alerted me to extensive bruising on my father's right side, evidence of neglect and possible abuse. This led to an investigation by Health and Human Services, which found Palmer Woods guilty of abuse, neglect, and additional violations. After removing my father from their care, he has slowly regained awareness and the ability to communicate--something he was robbed of while under their supervision. I cannot express how heartbreaking it is to know that I paid so much money for my father to be drugged, neglected, and possibly physically harmed. If you are considering Palmer Woods for your loved one, I urge you to think twice and thoroughly investigate their memory care unit before making a decision. No family should have to go through what we did.

They have a load of activities that she goes to and I think that's going to keep her mind sharper much longer than if she was still living alone. She goes to Mahjong, exercise classes, live music and recitals, plus a lively happy hour each Friday. Most of the folks there are so vibrant, coming from all over the US and different countries. They also have "armchair astronomy" classes and various lectures. The staff are caring, pleasant, and helpful. Dawn and Ralph, the managers, do a great job. I'm so glad we found this place. Mom was hesitant to go live there and she recently told me how much better her life is now that she's with other people.
