i was a regular up until scheduling an appointment became an obstacle. it seems they prioritize certain customers over others which i'm not a fan of. i've called countless times and even dmed stylist only to never get call back and to just be left on "seen" or "read". i don't care how good someone cuts my hair i will not subject myself to this type of experience/treatment. so sad to leave this review when it used to be 5 stars from me. This will be the first time I can write a positive review without having any service performed. Today I entered a very calm, spa like salon, I was immediately, warmly greeted by Donatella. I've had some disastrous cuts due to the lack of knowledge from the person cutting my hair when it comes to curls. From my very first appointment with Donatella to my most recent it has been exceptional. I booked it through Vagaro. She does get booked up quickly so it does takes patience. The first time I booked the appointment I had to wait 2 months but I really wanted my hair cut by someone who had knowledge and experience with curls and was not disappointed. These people are SO unprofessional, the receptionist is a HOT RUDE MESS! I am in Hawaii on vacation I'm on a boat when I get a text message from Donatella's rude receiptionist. Now I have heard he's rude, disrespectful and talks to you aggressively and is not friendly at all. I recently moved back from NC, I have a career which is in high demand not sure if anyone else knew or heard of the pandemic well a virus that killed millions called Covid made itself known. So you've guessed it I work in a HOSPITAL! Not sure if folks know it's considered frontline because this establishment wasn't aware of the pandemic or virus the seriousness of it and how you really shouldn't be around folks if you've been exposed. I've actually caught Covid at work twice. And these people still obvi wanted me to come in and have their business shut down for cleaning. Well we will never know at this point. I am very honest and won't go somewhere if I can expose people to this virus that's killed many. So instead I "RESCHEDULED" my appointment not canceled but RESCHEDULED that means try for another date and time. Because they obvi think canceled and rescheduled is the same thing. Now I could have been like others and roam the streets and spread it without saying a word right?! well I don't do things like that it's dangerous and it's irresponsible. I actually started going to this place in 2016 left Cali in 2019 I even came back asked could she do my hair for my wedding she said "NO" I should have known then but you will see why below.Well the clerk messages my phone and says I'm going to charge you the cancelation fee for your appointment tomorrow which is 06/20 my appt is for 06/22 he decides he wants to cancel after he called my phone leaving a vm on some bs. I'm on a boat living my BEST entire life! Covid finally died down I'm out here living !!! I don't have time to interrupt my selfies to argue with a clerk. Once I heard the tone of his vm my tone changed as well. First you hit me with the wrong date, your grammar and tone was irking me and the vm you left was trash. The fact the Donatella allowed him to do this is mind boggling When I use to frequent them Emily use to color my hair because I didn't have 20k followers on social media now that I think about it Donatella did my hair one and a half times I traveled from Corona, CA in LA traffic btw and Emily did my hair two to three times, Ezzy maybe once and once they left me hanging had her brother who stocks the place, sweep the floors and talks shi*. I was so bothered by the clerk I reached out to Donatella immediately via Instagram I didn't even go under a photo because I wanted to keep it cute. She did what most people do that are not smart when it comes to customer service and earning a coin or shall I say KEEPING THE COIN SECURING THE BAG she sided with her employee lol I've given you 100's of dollars even after she told me she doesn't charge influencers what she charges us common folk . Now Donatella knows good and well IVE PAID to sit in that salon She doesn't charge influencers what she charges us, she told me majority of the influencers are rude and don't take any advice she gives in regard to maintain their curls. I came in wanting to learn, kept it cute on mute and was NOTHING but nice to these girls every single visit and you allowed a Clerk tell me I can't schedule anymore because I cancel appointments. Could he not see my history of payments?? Donatella knows we've had conversations on influencers vs us common folk I was a loyal customer to her moved out of state and came back. The influencers would demand appointments even when they were sick or dealing with stuff and they would break their necks in the clinic to see them. But I'm a "nobody" so hey your business doesn't matter here which is completely fine I want to be treated fair so her season of playing in my hair was up. I can't move quick enough to confirm my appointment for Wed you're mad. Especially on Juneteenth this is a HOLIDAY leave me alone! I almost don't want to write this review and keep this amazing place a secret or word of mouth, in the know spot. But that is not realistic and every curly haired person should know about the amazing talents of Ezzy and Donatela. They were recommended to me a few years ago and once I got in I've never or will never leave them! Like many with curls we would go to stylists and colorists that were good, but not good with curls. We tolerated the wet haircuts and eh color jobs. Never truly happy with either. How many of us ended up with mushroom head, $400 highlights that looked the same as when you went in, hair falling out from terrible bleach jobs, asking for 3 inches cut to see 8 inches on the ground, etc. I finally did myself a favor and went to a curly hair specialist in San Diego who recommended Curls One on One to me when she got too busy. It was meant to be because Ezzy and Donatela have given me the curls and color I've always wanted. They are always accommodating to my schedule. I realize they are in demand though and do my part to be flexible with my schedule too. Be realistic folks, there are only 2 of them and their amazing assistants. Don't only give them one day/time you can do and get upset if they can't accommodate you. Give them a few options and I promise you they will do everything they can to work with you. They are honest and realistic about what your curls can be. Their goal is to keep your hair healthy while giving you an amazing style and color. They refused to bleach my whole head when I wanted to go pure blond and boy am I glad they did. They will get you to what you want while keeping your hair healthy. I think the pricing is very fair and on par for the L.A. area. You will pay more than going to a run of the mill hairdresser, but you get what you pay for. And it is WORTH IT!!!! Invest in yourself and quit trying to bargain shop on your most important asset - You!!! I moved to AZ a few months ago, but refuse to leave Ezzy and Donatela. I simply catch a flight to L.A. when I need my hair done. I already know I won't find anyone comparable in AZ. or any other state so why bother. I spent 1.5 months trying to schedule an appt with Curls OneonOne. I called and left voicemails multiple times without response. Texting was extremely inconsistent. Rate was $225 for hair cut only (without a wash). This felt confusing to me, as my kind of curly hair needs to be very wet for an effective cut. The person I was texting with shared $225 was a deal and already included a $50 discount. This was inconsistent with other prices listed on their Yelp reviews (despite hair being same consistency and length as mine). For me, $225 for a hair cut only (no wash), with regular price $275, and awful communication is simply not worth to invest in a long-term relationship with a stylist. read more

Where do I begin? I came in today for a consultation, and before I knew it, I was walking out with a cut, wash, deep condition, and style. And they were packed! Now, I don't want to get anyone's hopes up just in case they aren't able to do this for everyone, but I think Donatela saw the state my hair was in, and that I was serious about starting my hair health journey, so she squeezed me in. And I am so grateful!! Thank YOU, Donatela!! A few things I noticed: 1. All of the staff were so kind, not only to the customers, but to one another. There was one point when Donatela was about to begin washing my hair, and I was again thanking her for making the time to do all of this for me, and her sister Ezzy came over and said "She doesn't even make time for an appointment for me." And we all laughed together. They really do what they can to make everyone feel comfortable in the small space. 2. As Donatela and I were talking, she shared that her favorite part of the job isn't necessarily the cutting and styling, but the education and confidence boosting. She was so knowledgable at every single step and kept me informed about why she was doing what she was doing, and how I could replicate the routine at home. Rule #1: stop taking hot showers, for the sake of my hair! You can see how damaged, dry, and broken the top layer of my hair is, and one of the first things Donatela said to me during the consultation was "You like hot showers and touching your hair." True and true. She knows what she's talking about, y'all! 3. My phone camera is busted, so Donatela took the before and after pics for me and shared them with me!!! I told her my biggest frustration with my hair was being unhappy with the shape. I had recorded a video where the shape was so stiff at my shoulders, and it just looked like a mullet. I hadn't gotten my hair cut in years (at least 7+) so I knew that had something to do with it, and within the last year or so I had been transitioning to more curly-girl methods (no oils, plopping, scrunching, etc). But I know the journey is only beginning and Donatela filled in a lot of the gaps for me, by informing me about silk pillowcases, showing me how to properly put my hair up, showing me how to massage my scalp and product into my hair, encouraging me to get a hair pick, to use clips at the root during the drying process. i learned SO much during my few hours there. While I am interested in coloring my hair in the future as I've never colored it before, both Donatela and Ezzy told me to hold off. Donatela recommended I wait at least a year until my hair gets stronger. I will take her advice! Overall, I had a GREAT experience, and I am SUPER DUPER thankful that Donatela chose to squeeze me into her very busy schedule when I was only there for a consultation (that I mistakenly originally made with Emily, who specializes in color). Basically, I was a hot mess and they really helped me out. I am looking forward to continuing my relationship with Curls OneonOne as I move forward in my curly hair journey!! read more

This is my hair sanctuary. I love it here and I love the staff. I go to Donatela for my cuts and Ezzy did my highlights once. Both are great. I'm so happy that I found Donatela. I happened to go to her a month before Devachan Culver City closed down and she later told me that she would be opening her own salon with her sister. I was disappointed Devachan closed down a month after I decided to go, but I'm happy now because I can still go to Donatela! I went to Donatela for a "Diva Cut" and it looked pretty good after I left and weeks following, but when I went to get my hair straightened and curled by my regular hairstylist, she noticed uneven chunks and choppy parts of my hair. I contacted Brandon and he was very sweet and sympathetic to my concerns and needs and told me Donatela would email me, since I was out of the country. Well I never received a call or email from Donatela. After several weeks of no contact I reached back out and of course she was very defensive and made excuses for her horrible "Diva cut". She did refund me my money, but after I threatened legal action. I do not believe her horrible "Diva cut" was intentional, but she was unprofessional in how she handled the situation and she never took accountability for her actions. I do believe it was unlucky circumstances and I may have sat in her chair at the wrong time and wrong day(meaning: Bad Day). Since moving to LA my hair has been dry and difficult (I came from humidity). I also needed my color blended to be more natural. I tried CurlsOneonOne after finding them on yelp and I am so pleased with the results! Donatella is a curl expert and took time to teach me the products and process to follow to retain moisture. Charls is amazing with color. They were so flexible (I had to reschedule) and nice (I ordered lunch during the process). She first asked me what I wanted, then proceeded to tell me what was possible, which I appreciate. She shaped my hair exactly the way I wanted, while asking questions about products I use along the way, and making sure that I was ok with the length. I usually go to the curl Doctor for my haircut but the last few years I have been working remotely and traveling. During that time, I had haircuts in Michigan and Atlanta where I had great luck with finding people to do Deva cuts. So when I got back to LA, I thought I could find someone that wasn't as expensive as the Curl Doctor. I had Donatella cut my hair and sadly it wasn't good at all. My hair was long past my shoulders, so I asked her to bring it up right past my shoulders and she just grabbed one side of my hair and cut it like you would if you were donating your hair for a wig and then did it to the other side. Both sides of my hair she just grabbed and cut, so it's like no dimension, no layers. I also told her I don't use DevaCurl products, and she sprayed the DevaCurl hair spray on my hair. read more
