I needed pesos for a trip to Mexico and I doubted that I had enough time to get them from my bank. Called the business owner to find out if he had them on hand which he did. Before I hung up he said that he was going to text me the directions because it can be confusing. True to his words, I got directions he promised. It was a good thing he did because it was confusing. You have to find the building and look for Suite 100 which is an office with lots of suites. There is a receptionist at the main desk who will buzz the business owner. He truly had plenty of pesos! I'm amused by the reviews here about exchange rate. The owner has to pay rent for Regus in Pleasanton (~$1,500 a month) and his employees (or his time). Even the mega banks with already existing facilities don't charge the published exchange rate. That's their arbitrage. My bank needs one week advance notice and they only support SOME currencies, not all. Currency world supports all currencies. You don't need to plan for using them. They also got robbed in their previous location in Castro Valley. If you want to compare them to anyone, compare them to the currency exchange counters at the airport. I did. Currency world is 13-15% better prices than the airport vendors. Are the airport vendors ripping you off? No. They're providing you a service at the gate. If you don't like it, go without forex. I've been using Currency World for years, always a quick and efficient process. The owner very professional until today. I called to inquire about getting Swiss Francs. I've been tracking the exchange rate for a couple of weeks and it hovered around $1= .82 CHF. When I called he quoted around $1= .73 CHF. I asked why that rate given the going rate was different. He said it was too complicated to explain and that I should google it for answers. I pressed and stated that several exchange rate sites where all putting it at $1=.82 CHF. If I could give zero stars this would be the case. I came here today in the morning to get notary services done. Since they have it posted on their site and inside the lobby as well. As my partner and I walked in. The gentlemen was sweeping and asked for us to wait. Ok. No problem. We waited for a few minutes. We then said we're here to get a notary done. Okay, I'm a slacker. Literally waited until the day before my son left for a trip to finally get around to thinking about money. If I could give zero stars to Currency World USA in Pleasanton, I would. My experience here was shockingly bad, all thanks to an employee, I assume, named Vipul. From the moment I asked a simple question about the exchange rate, he asked me if I work in tech and he responded with a snide, insulting remark about people in tech and IIT (premier engineering college in India) graduates not being able to do basic math. I don't even come from that college and all I did was just ask that question about the exchange rate. I didn't even make any remark. I was stunned by his arrogance and disrespect. As if that wasn't enough, when I asked what happens to the old notes I was exchanging--since they're not usable in the market--he rudely told me it was "none of my business." Well, what business did he have when he asked me where I work. I have never encountered such unprofessional, condescending, and downright rude behavior at any business before. If you value being treated with basic decency and respect, I strongly urge you to avoid this place at all costs. There are plenty of other options--don't waste your time or money here. To clarify: My comments are not a reflection on the business as a whole, but rather on this particular person mentioned above at the Pleasanton office. Overall I had a positive experience at Currency World USA albeit the location can be a little tricky to locate. When you arrive at the 4900 Hopyard building, take the WEST building (not the EAST). The **very** first left you will be met by a nice person at a desk who is managing **all** of the suites. Just let them know you are there for Currency World USA and they will page the owner. I had a nice experience with the gentleman managing the business and walked into his office. I brought $800 USD to exchange for Chinese Yuan (CNY). As of April 28th, 2025, the current trading rate is: 1 USD for 7.29 CNY . From Currency World USA I got a trading rate of 1 USD for 6.75 CNY. At the **true** market rate as of today: 800 USD for 5836 CNY. At the Currency World rate I got: 800 USD for 5400 CNY. This means the processing fee for the gentleman basically came out to 436 CNY or $59.77 USD. That means the processing fee was: 0.0747125 or 7.48% (if I've done my math correctly which I believe I have [59.77 / 800]). For comparison, if you were to trade currency at the airport, ICE (International Currency Exchange) would sell today: 1 USD for 6.18 CNY. This means from ICE's exchange rate, the transaction fee is: 8.45% (6.18 / 6.75) That is a saving of 11.47% between Currency Exchange USA and International Currency Exchange @ SFO. That's pretty good in my book! All in all, the trading rate from Currency Exchange USA was very reasonable and I am very happy with my experience! I have exchanged currency at this establishment twice, usd for pesos. The man who owns this business is very friendly and will try to break bills in the increments you want. Although I've noticed he prefer to give you larger bills, which isn't the best case for Mexico. I highly recommend making an appointment so you can tell him exactly what you want a few days in advance. If you exchange over 1200 usd to any currency he will not charge you a fee, anything below that is a 10 percent exchange rate. If you're looking for something convenient to have cash before your trip, this is the place to go. Although I fe like 10 percent is kind of high. If you take time to walk around the airports and look at different exchange places you can definitely get a little more bang for your buck but like I said, all about the convenience. This place is a scam. Avoid it. They charged a US$5 fee upfront, but that's not the real problem. I went yesterday to exchange USD to EUR and paid USD$914 for €720. Today, I exchanged money at Bank of America and paid US$115.30 for €96 -- meaning at BOA, US$914 would have gotten me €760.80. So I effectively lost about US$69 in hidden exchange rate fees on a $900 transaction. That's outrageous. I called them about this, but they denied any wrongdoing. He didn't want to do my fingerprints resubmission manually because it was "too time consuming", yet he didn't have any other customers at the moment. These guys were nice enough, and their rates were the same as my bank. I was able to get British Pounds the same day while it would have taken days to order from my bank online. The only reason this isn't a 5 star is because they gave me old money. When I used it, it worked but people were like, "where did you get that!? That's really old!" Apparently, their newer currency is smaller and has additional safe guards.
