Himalayan Curry Kitchen in Richmond Hill is hands down one of our absolute favorite restaurants…read more The service is always warm and welcoming, and the food--every single dish--is nothing short of phenomenal. We've celebrated so many special moments here, from Diwali to my son's first solid food (butter chicken, of course!), and it's become our go-to spot for both the lunch buffet and countless family dinners. There is truly something for everyone on the menu. My personal favorite is the paneer makhani, while my kids are obsessed with the butter chicken (I can't blame them--it's incredible). The chicken tikka masala, curries, and kormas are all rich, flavorful, and perfectly spiced. My sister and I can't resist splitting the chili paneer, and we never sit down without ordering a few vegetable samosas and plenty of garlic naan for the table. It's just as delicious when ordered on DoorDash--which we do often! My only complaint? They're closed on Mondays, and for whatever reason, we always crave it on Mondays. If you're looking for authentic, flavorful, and consistently outstanding Indian food, you can't go wrong with Himalayan Curry Kitchen. It's a true gem in Richmond Hill, and we feel lucky to have it close by.

I've had 2 interactions with this business…read more The first was a catered house party. The food was delicious, and a great value for the money. It was excellent overall! The second time was the Weekend Buffet. The variety of options was great... all the Indian staples were well prepared and tasty. My personal favorites were the goat vindaloo, and the tandoori chicken. There were many good vegetarian choices as well. This is nearly a 4 star visit, but the service was solidly average. The waiters came around, but at one point I had a small mountain of used plates and bowls on the table. The restaurant itself was clean, but not overly so. Overall, Himalayan Curry Kitchen is worth a visit to fix those Indian food cravings.

The…read moreplace looks awesome inside--super spacious, modern, and clean with a chill vibe that makes you actually want to hang out and enjoy the food. We kicked things off with the crispy chilli baby corn, and it was straight-up snack heaven. Crunchy, spicy, saucy -- basically everything you want in an appetizer. Washed it down with a mango lassi that was creamy and refreshing without being sugary sweet. Already winning at this point. But then... the kebab platter showed up. And I swear, it's one of the best kebabs I've had in a long time. So flavorful, juicy, perfectly cooked -- the kind of dish that makes you stop talking mid-sentence. We also tried their special biryani, and it hit all the right notes -- aromatic, tasty, and not greasy at all. Long story short: I now officially have a reason to come back to Pooler again, and it's spelled Naan Appetit.

We visited Naan Appetit for the first time last weekend and really enjoyed ourselves. There are a…read morecouple of notable things about Naan Appetit that I feel I must share because there is a similarly highly rated Indian restaurant within a stones throw away from Naan that it that also deserves comparison. I will review that restaurant under separate cover, but just know that when comparing this one to Persis, I would rate Naan Appetit as the better restaurant. But ultimately they are two different experiences within the Indian food category and for that reason are very hard to compare (more on that in the Persis review). But now let's talk about Naan Appetit. So what I really like about this restaurant is the value for the ambience and atmosphere. This is a very nicely appointed restaurant that I actually thought was a furniture store before we realized it was an actual restaurant. Very well appointed well designed and upscale in look, feel and function. Service is very strong with multiple servers and front of house greeting you immediately upon entry. We were seated within 3 to 5 minutes of walking in, and this was on a Friday night with a fairly full house. Once we were seated, our server immediately came over, provided us with menus and gave us a bit of information about the restaurant. We then proceed to ask a couple of questions about level of spice, and were really pleased with the servers descriptions of the various items on the menu and which ones we may or may not want to avoid depending on our spice level preference. I really appreciated the way the menu was set up which allowed for fairly easy decision making when it came to what we wanted to order. We went with mostly traditional entrees, ordering the lamb vindaloo, and the korma. Both were authentic and very well seasoned and spiced. We also ordered a couple of the garlic butter Naan bread, which were also really good. And lastly, we tried out the tandoori wings, which I had read on previous Yelp reviews were a highlight of the restaurant. When we first asked the server about them, he seemed a bit reluctant to recommend them because of the time it would take for them to be delivered to our table, which was approximately 30 minutes. We told him we weren't in a rush and didn't have anywhere else to be so we were totally fine with ordering them. It turns out that they ended up coming to the table before our appetizers even made it. So a bit of an overblown concern there. Outside of that little wrinkle, our overall experience was really pleasurable, especially given the sub $100 price point we paid including tip. This is definitely one of the restaurants we will be going to during our stay here in Savannah. And if I had to give the best advice on the difference between this restaurant and the other, I would say pick this for date night and pick the other one for family night.

So I backed out, drove over a few spaces down and then pulled back into another parking spot. When my kids and I walked in, we were immediately greeted by a man as he was sweeping the store. That's one thing of the first things I noticed that it was really clean and organized. I asked him if the store was new and if it had just opened. I have been to Viet Huong quite a few times, as well as visiting the countless other businesses in that complex and this was the first time I had noticed Al Maddineh Halal Meat & Grocery Market (AMHMGM). No, he said, we have been open for about a year and a half now. Whoa! Really?! I have never noticed it before! - What you will find - I found the "Shan" brand that I have previously seen it at an Indian grocery store. It seems to be a variety of boxed spice mixes for various dishes like Kofta and Vegetable Masala. I actually bought a couple of them at the Indian grocery store upon that owners recommendation on Tandoori chicken, but I have yet to try them. Anyway, they have quite a variety of flavors of that brand. They also have bulk spices, dried pastas, canned goods and pita breads. They have a milk section as well as a refrigerated section where I found Labna!!!! It's probiotic and it's so good with really any fruit. I had some figs so I scooped out some labna and drizzled maple syrup because (a) Canadian side and (b) I didn't have honey. I am so glad I found this gem here! And of course the Halal Meat. There was a customer there at the time of our visit and the butcher was working away at cutting it the way she requested. The meat looked fresh and I've included the price list (see pics). They don't have any meat displayed in glass fridge cases, so I am assuming they butcher the meat upon request? There is also a small section of prayer mats and scarves there as well. I love discovering ethnic grocery stores and finding cool new food items to try. I also love seeing the different packaging of the same products we get here! Note to self for future - try some of the cheeses.

I ordered chicken biriyani, as I'm not a fan of sauces. Ah-mazing. It's such a simple dish, but it was bursting with flavor. The only down side was that it wasn't spicy enough. They offered extra spices though! Being a white girl ordering things "Indian spicy" usually gets me "white girl spicy" I wish I knew how to assure restaurants I can handle heat. Anyway, I also got the mango mojito. It paired well with biriyani and cut the heat quite a bit.

My visit at 2:00 PM (during an off-peak hour) was marked by lengthy delays in seating, menu distribution, and order-taking. Dishes arrived flavorful but lukewarm. Management may want to look into staff efficiency; the floor seemed poorly managed, with tables remaining uncleaned for long periods and an unequal distribution of labor among the waitstaff. Furthermore, the "Guest" Wi-Fi network is active but restricted, which can be misleading for international travelers; renaming the network would easily resolve this. Additionally, there is a lack of transparency at checkout; the final receipt does not show an itemized breakdown of the detailed charges, displaying only the final total with tax. Most importantly, the restroom lacked soap during my entire visit, which is a critical health and safety concern for both guests and employees. I am leaving a neutral rating today, as excellent food cannot entirely compensate for a compromised service experience.
