Still with a drink $4 Lassi and tip = $22.00 for one person, so we split an entree which should be aok if both aren't mega hungry or you take leftovers for dinner. Would liked to have tried another red curry were a more reasonable lunch price available. As expected it was a ghost town, being the sole diners. Since the doors are open, would be a better business model to make it an $7-10 meal deal with a chai or lemonade to bring the lunch crowd in, with everything on one plate, scaling down on dishware and portions. Took 15-20 mins, as only customers, so not a quick stop if you are in a lunch hurry. Server, Cashier, Cook were the owners I assume, and very nice and personable. The dining room has nice murals and comfortable booths, some Indian music would of been nice. Could hear faint commentary from a soccer game instead. There is a bar attached, dark at lunch. We had a terrible experience ordering through Curry House on Uber eats. Food was delivered in cheap plastic containers that melted and curry got all over our house. Mixed vegetables tasted frozen with no flavor. Naan was burnt. They also charged us for something that they were out of and I had to be the one to seek out a refund. This was a while ago and I wish I sought out a full refund. It took an awesome experience at Tandori Bites last night to remind me I never left this place a bad review. read more

Finally got in to "check it out"! Went in for lunch but really was an early dinner due to the menu. We were the only patrons @ this time; outside street parking, competent service in a clean environment. Now on to the menu items ordered as shown in my pics. The food was good, definitely "Indian" flavors! The Rice was outstanding, flavorful Sauces and the Naan was very fresh and tasty. Odd experience as we were the only ones in the restaurant. A man who I'm guessing was the owner was our server. He was nice enough, food came out promptly. Food was ok, not horrible, not great. Did not have the depth of flavor I'm use to from a lot of Indian places. Felt like the quick and easy version of the dish. It will sooth your Indian food craving in a pinch, but I would not seek this place out. This is Mom & Pop Indian Curry Dining which is Straightforward with No frills. I see the premise or concept as, "The Ambiance is what you make it. Let Our Food do the talking." And this is what this place is, I'd call it an Indian Restaurant/Dive with excellent food that is worth the drive to little Ferndale. Each meal comes with Soup, Rice, Naan bread, and raita. They have vegetarian options too. Which is a Deal in comparison to my last Indian restaurant experience in West Seattle which was so not worth the High Tab I paid, and the diarrhea I had from it for the following 2 days. This place is way better in all ways than my previous experiences elsewhere. I had the Lamb Vindaloo which tasted and felt homemade. I feel like I could be Anthony Bourdain exploring Indian Cuisine in small town America and as I am I am extremely surprised and delighted I have just found a hidden gem. As I finish, I'm sipping on Chai Tea with Coconut milk while dipping into a little bowl of Kheer which I simply describe as A rice pudding with Cardamon. Horrible... The hostess was lovely and quite helpful. Samosas were ok, served with sweet & sour sauce and green chutney that was crazy spicy. We were served a soup(?) It was bean and lentil soup(?) that was flavorless and decidedly unappetizing. My colleague ordered Malai Kofta, instead of the normal nutty sauce it was yellow squash. The sauce was tasty, but not authentic. The 'balls' were rather flavorless and starchy. I ordered goat curry and was hopeful for a tasty, goaty meal. The goat was tender and tasty, unfortunately that was the end of my enjoyment. The sauce had no discernible curry flavor and tasted like canned tomatoes. The chai was decent and water cold and wet. Just wanted to warn you guys about the horrible interaction I had with the Curry house today. I have a friend in town and wanted to order curry for her to try, she's never had it before. I ordered our usual, two orders of butter chicken and two orders of garlic naan. Usually it's been great, but today when we got home and opened it up to eat, the naan bread was completely burnt and tasted burnt, and the butter chicken was horrible. I paid $40 dollars for this order, so I decided to call them and let them know. The daughter answered the phone and you could tell the dad, who I am pretty positive is also the owner, was in the background telling her what to say. She said "if you come in next night maybe we'll fix it" then she says "oh we can give you one free naan" which is like $8. The entire order was just didn't taste well, which isn't my usual experience, so I reached out, and was told they "might" fix it if I come back and order and pay again....or that they could give me "free naan" which they burnt regardless and should've fixed. Then the owner I presume, comes on the phone and tells me that he can't help me and that he can offer me 20% off for the next time when I come back and order again...I let him know I felt that was highly inappropriate and not a way to treat repeating customers and he hung up on me...I am NOT HAPPY. I do not advise going there. They treated us horribly and did not make the experience right. I ended up paying $40 for burnt food. Hanging up on customers, being rude, and not willing to make your screw ups right is definitely how you drive a business into the ground. I was very kind and just wanted them to make it right. I cannot believe how inappropriate they were. I think people forget that although it is a privilege to be able to afford to eat out, that we work hard to earn the money we do have, to be able to eat out. A sad disappointment. Really a terrible experience. Under new ownership. Original owners were a family and they treated us well. Previous Food was good, of generous portions with condiments and tea included in the meal. The new owners charge for everything (Change that to OVER change). Food was acceptable, service very poor. I was willing to make allowances for Covid 19 conditions and the struggles of Resturants today , but eventually my disappointments added up enough to realize I was dealing with a new owner and management. I am sad to say goodbye to the best Indian food in Whatcom County (speaking of the former owners). The server seemed to want to explain why they did things the way they did even though I did not ask. I checked out the most recent reviews and was hopeful for Curry House. Called in for a pick up order. They called me to let me know when the food was ready which is why this is 2 stars, not one star. When I paid I was told it is customary to leave a tip for take-out orders- news to me, but at the time I was looking forward to yummy food, so fine. Once I got home, I realized that this 4* rated establishment actually isn't at all what it's supposed to be. My order: butter chicken and garlic naan. I can honestly say that the rice was the best part of my food. The butter chicken was watered down. The sauce had lost most flavor and was super thin- almost soup like. The naan was burnt and the garlic... either forgotten or so little that I barely tasted/smelled any. Big disappointment! Great curries. Bhindi masala and baingan bharta make the drive from Bellingham worth it. Staff is so helpful too. When our favorite place in Bellingham closed (Punjabi Junction), we were so sad. I'm giving two stars because the rice was delicious and perfectly cooked. I rarely write a negative review, maybe it's just our tastes and my previous experience with actual Indian food from England and Vancouver. Management told me the reason their food doesn't taste like most other Indian food is because they don't use oil or ghee to bloom the spices or to cook the onions/ginger/garlic ( the mainstay or basis for much/most of the dishes). They use water. It's healthier. Okay then. This makes no sense to me, as of course the flavours will be dilute. We ordered the aloo gobi (cauliflower) and it was absolutely tasteless. Also the chicken tikka, which is pretty much a staple across the world, nope. It was like a squash soup. Didn't resemble anything familiar. The naan were tough although plentiful. And the samosa didn't make it into the order. Bill was 39$ I did speak with management and they did offer to replace them but I think we will stick with other establishments especially My Shanti. The 20 minute drive to get there is a non issue when you taste their food. And it's all cooked by women Or downtown at Naan and brew. Or even Taste of India beside Home Depot. read more

I would have loved to have enjoyed this place. Indian food isn't exactly plentiful in Whatcom County and to find a delicious Indian restaurant way up in quaint Ferndale would have been awesome. Remember those frozen packs of mixed vegetables, containing corn kernels, lima beans, peas, carrots, and green beans? They're pretty bland and taste kind of like paper, but maybe you ate them when you were a kid? Well, buckle your seat belts, because the Navaratan Special Korma is full of the stuff. It reminded me of something randomly thrown together when you're trying to empty out your freezer, except you're paying the price of a restaurant meal. The whole dish was just thin and poor quality and unappetizing. Normally I gobble down Indian food right down to to the last bite. Here, I left about half on the plate and didn't ask for a box. I also got a Mango Lassi, which was equally thin and off-putting. Even the water didn't taste too great. My friend got the Chana Masala, which was this bright, fluorescent red color that really should only be found in Las Vegas or on a Christmas tree. I don't know if they poured food dye into it or what, but it was BIZARRE. And bland tasting. She said it was the worst Indian food she's ever had. Not helping matters was the interior of the restaurant, which was dark, drafty, and depressing. The building was old and had that kind of sickly, musty smell more likely to be found at an antique shop than a restaurant. Doesn't really put you in the mood for eating. As noted earlier, the waitresses were friendly, but service was slooooooow. (Even though the place was nearly empty). And their attentiveness was inconsistent. They asked my friend if she wanted a water refill, which she did despite the weird taste. Then they never came back again. My friend drank my water instead. My wife is a Bellingham Area Elite with Yelp and she has been wanting to try this restaurant, so we went there today for lunch. Oddly, they do not haver a "lunch menu" it is simply what you would call a "dinner menu". That is part of the problem that I have with this restaurant. Going there for lunch and for the quantity of food that you receive for the price that they charge it is not enough for what you have to pay. I had Chicken Korma at $13.99. We spent most of our lives in Denver, Colorado and ate Indian food there numerous times at numerous restaurants. The restaurant that we most frequented was India Castle in Greenwood Village. Yes, their Chicken Korma is $15.95 but the quantity served was probably a quarter more as much as what we received today, but I can only recall going there for dinner once. Normally we would go at noon when they had an All You Can Eat buffet for $10.95 and the food was exceptionable. OK, enough whining about price other than to say that we are finding that all of NW Washington seems to be uping there prices which, we believe, is an effort to establish this area as "five star". Let's talk about service. Our waitress, who was probably the female half of the ownership, was very attentive. She was also what I would call a bit pushy, but she is probably an owner. We told her that we normally go to Canada for good food. Her comment was "...now that you found us, are you going to go to Canada again ...". We did not respond, but yes we will go to Canada again. Still, I would rate service at four stars at least. Now let's talk taste. I had no problem here. My Chicken Korma was medium spicy as I ordered. My wife thought it a bit too spicy, My daughter had Chicken Polak which I tasted and thought was very good. My granddaughter had a vegetarian dish, the name of which I cannot remember, but I tasted it and it was very good. The three of us also received with our meals a small cup of a bean soup which was very good and plain naan with raita all of which was good. My wife chose to go ala carte and had an order of two Samosa and Garlic Naan. The Samosa was very good, but they only have one type of Samosa. The Garlic Naan was very good, but did not differ much in taste from the standard naan despite the $1.00 per serving charge. Overall I would say that this restaurant gives you a good Indian food experience, but I cannot go 4 stars or higher because of the amount served for the price charged. read more

We live in Ferndale, we love Indian food and have eaten it all over the country in some pretty amazing restaurants (and England too) and the Curry House is most certainly among the very best Indian food we have had anywhere. Hands down the best in Whatcom County, for sure... sure wish they had a buffet! The naan is wonderful and plentiful, the Tikka Masala and dhaal are delicious and try the Chai - it doesn't come out of a box cuz it is homemade! We don't like the styrofoam either, so we do bring our own containers (or borrow a plate!) and they have no problem with that. I notice that they have been closed for a week for remodeling (open on 5-24-10 again) and can't wait to see what they have done. read more

Ambiance: The decor is lacking but the restaurant is clean. It looks almost like it was done in the early 90's and its just been maintained since. There is a small retail area of spices/mixes and ingredients that are for sale up by the cash register. You can see into the kitchen from most of the restaurant and it looked clean, but outdated as well. The Menu: Perfect. I love Indian food, and all of my favorites were present and accounted for. My husband had Lamb Vindaloo and I had Saag Paneer. The Paneer was good, although a little light on chunks of cheese, heavy on the spinach. My husbands portion of lamb was much larger. The rice was perfect and the garlic naan was good, although the garlic tasted like "canned minced" so it wasn't as spot on as it could have been. Sodas come in a 20oz bottle, if I had known that I would have ordered tea or something else. The service: wasn't BAD, she was nice, but just kinda... bored? Our waitress didn't seem to engaged in her job, let's put it that way. It wasn't as welcoming as it could have been. But, we enjoyed the meal - the food was delicious. This was just what we were looking for this evening; a quiet, friendly restaurant with really good food. It was busy but not full when we came in around 8PM on a Saturday. It's spacious enough not to feel cramped. The woman seated us right away and gave us enough time to look over the menu without rushing which is the case at a lot of restaurants it seems. We ordered some pakora, vegetable korma, and I asked if she would make a paneer korma as I saw they had both paneer and korma but not together on the menu. She said that would not be a problem. The soup she brought out was delicious and just the right portion, a small cup. Didn't fill you up but got you enjoying all those great Indian ingredients and flavors. Very light actually. Then came the pakoras which were nicely done and the sauces didn't look like they had just been brought from another table either. The entrees were very well finished and I think the level of spicing was spot on with what we wanted. Lots of rice and the Nan bread was good. The regular non was a bit more doughy then the garlic one for some reason. Didn't like the styrofoam boxes, but that's a personal thing. Hopefully when they need to replace them they'll do go with something a bit more recyclable.
