Super tasty! I found this place on a whim and I'm so glad I stopped by. I had just visited Japan a few days prior and was craving Japanese curry. This place definitely hit the spot! Service is fast, friendly, and no frills. Ambiance is definitely more casual and loud. They have a decent amount of seats, so it's good for both small and larger groups.

This place has really good curry and tonkatsu! I got their chicken katsu curry but wish I got the pork, because I think that was juicier (my friend got that one). Anyway, the flavors were great and service is fast!

3.5 stars, rounded up, because prices are pretty reasonable. The milk tea was way too sweet (it's more like condensed milk with a splash of assam). The breading on katsu seem more dense than I remember. This was my go to curry place but I think they're more similar to other curry places around the area these days. Friendly service and very responsive to the service button on each table. Comfortable booth seating. I got the oyster katsu curry, a winter special item. It hit the spot. I do feel like I could get similar fried oysters elsewhere though. I'm sure I'll come back but expectations will be tempered.

This is my favorite Japanese curry restaurant in the entire bay area. The meat is so-so but the curry is amazing. It has the right amount of contrast with the meat and white rice. Too bad some of it spilled all over the plastic bag while I was transporting it. The food came out quick at around 4:30pm on a Sunday. Pork curry $17, karaage chicken appetizer $8.50 and potato salad $5.50 goes well together. Good job my friends at Curry Hyuga.

Awesome bang for the buck!!! Very good Japanese curry spot. Delicious tender pork tonkatsu with killer curry sauce. Little spot in a strip mall. Great friendly service.

Really loved this spot! First, the portion sizes alone make it such a great value. You get so much food for the price. I ordered the signature curry with a hard-boiled egg, and everything about it was so good. The rice was cooked perfectly, the curry was rich and flavorful, and the katsu was super crispy. We also ordered the chicken karaage, and it was just as good. The portion size was also huge for an appetizer, and every piece was juicy and well-seasoned. The location is convenient, the service was friendly and efficient, and everything moved quickly. We were seated immediately, someone took our order immediately after sitting and the food arrived just as quickly. Would definitely recommend!

I've been to Curry Hyuga in Burlingame about 4-5 times now, and every single visit has lived up to a 5-star experience. It's one of those spots that's just consistently dialed in, food, service, and overall vibe never miss! The ambiance is warm and casual with a cozy Japanese diner feel. Nothing overly fancy, but clean, comfortable, and perfect whether you're grabbing a quick meal or sitting down and taking your time. It always feels welcoming :D !! Signature Katsu Curry (with egg) This is my go-to every time. The curry is rich, savory, and has that deep slow-cooked flavor that just coats everything perfectly. Not too heavy, not too sweet--just balanced. The katsu itself is crispy on the outside and super juicy on the inside. The breading holds up even with the curry, which I appreciate because nothing's worse than soggy katsu. Adding the egg takes it up another level. Once you break it and mix it into the curry and rice, it makes everything creamier and even more indulgent. Rice & Sides The rice is always cooked perfectly and soaks up the curry really well. The pickles and potato salad on the side are small touches but add a nice contrast to the richness of the dish. What keeps me coming back is the consistency. It tastes just as good every single time, which is honestly rare. Service is always smooth, food comes out quickly, and the whole experience feels effortless, the elder couple who helps serves everyone always has smiles on their faces! Definitely one of my go-to comfort food spots in the area. If you're craving katsu curry, this is the place

Curry Hyuga has been on our must try list for a long time (years) and a chilly night in the Peninsula was a perfect opportunity for something cozy and filling! They are located on Broadway in Burlingame in the heart of a ton of local shopping and dining; there is a good amount of metered street parking but it's often busy. If you go a block or two away from Broadway, there are a few lots (also metered) and some free street parking-just be mindful of people's driveways. Curry Hyuga is definitely a cozy spot-there are around 5-6 alcoves with two tables each, and can seat groups of 2 to ~10 in one of these areas. We didn't have to wait long to be seated, but they were decently busy with in-person patrons and takeaway orders on a Monday evening. As usual, the #YEShusband and I had perused the menu and went in with a plan to share and try as many things as possible! I hadn't really had Japanese curry, so I was particularly intrigued by the description of it being more of an umami gravy-like sauce. Here's what we ordered: - Corn Pottage Soup (super rich sweet corn, spice, milk, and chicken consomme): Super creamy and flavorful. This was a reasonable size to share between two people. - Teppanji (sizzling chicken with onion infused namban sauce): WOW! We knew we were in for something delicious after reading the description, but this one exceeded our expectations. This karaage style chicken is served topped with a hot (temperature-wise) green onion oil on top. The flavor is next level! - Signature Katsu Curry (hand breaded pork loin): Iconic dish and Curry Hyuga executes it perfectly. Their curry sauce is savory, just the right balance of saucy and gravy-like consistency, and goes well with everything! I should have ordered an extra side of the curry-rookie mistake! This comes with a half plate of rice, a side of their potato salad and fukujin pickles which provide a cool contrast. - Karaage Curry (Japanese shio-dashi marinated fried chicken with house blended crust): It was nice to try their karaage on its own-the breading is flavorful and not too thick. It's served with a creamy, aioli type sauce which was a nice option to dip the chicken in. This also comes with a half plate of rice, a side of their potato salad and fukujin pickles. - Potato Korokke (side): this is similar to a potato croquette: a mashed potato ball mixed with corn and onion, coated in panko, and fried. It was so yummy and had a great flavor. Great side to dip in extra curry sauce! I highly recommend coming to Curry Hyuga for a hearty, homestyle meal that is also reasonably priced! Huge thank you to the Curry Hyuga team for a tasty first visit- can't wait to come back for more! IG: @waitingtoeat

They have a few new items on the menu. We tried the cheese noodles and it was good! Perfect place when the weather is a little chilly out. Recently came for a Friday lunch and it was tough to find parking nearby. We ended up parking a few blocks down in the residential area which actually isn't that far and it was easier to get out than if we parking on Broadway. Service was prompt and friendly. Food was yum!

Yum! Big portions and sweet staff. Our party was able to walk in on a Sunday and get seated right away. I went with the chicken katsu curry and added on a potato croquette. The curry is savory and I love that the katsu comes over a bed of shredded cabbage as sometimes you need a little veggie. The katsu itself was juicy, and the batter was perfect not too thick and clung well to the meat. Would recommend the croquette, it's like a fried mashed potato ball with corn inside. Definitely come here for a warm and hearty meal! I was even able to bring come leftovers :)

Got lucky and was able to find a parking spot in a lot nearby. The curry was really good! Solid curry to rice ratio. I also enjoyed the crispy chicken katsu. My regret is not trying any of the spice powders :( I forgot to. I also liked the sweet corn soup. The establishment is on the medium side, I think should be able to get a seat relatively quickly. Also there's a bathroom in the back!

Curry Hyuga is a true comfort food gem. We visit often, and they are incredibly consistent with both their service and food quality. Our go-to order is the Chicken Katsu with cheese and added vegetables. The katsu is always perfectly fried--crispy on the outside without being greasy. The curry sauce itself is thick and flavorful, and I love that they provide different spicy peppers so you can customize the heat level to your liking. Highly recommended!

My friends and I decided to stop by as they said it's the best curry?? Ordered the Signature Katsu Curry ($17) and I'm amazed of how well the breading held up against the curry sauce. A generous portion of curry and rice hiding underneath the katsu. A satisfying meal nonetheless with fast service.

No big deal since I've been to other Japanese curry places like this. I've had a mix bag where the katsu was deliciously crispy and moist on the inside and days where the meat inside is dry, even drenched in curry. Hot curry sauce is Japanese hot, so it has spices in it but not spicy at all. The workers do their best for the lunch rush, so that's a plus at least. Service was quick and polite - they even have an outside window for takeout. Tasteful presentation, but don't let that fool you. It has a legitimate kick, so calibrate accordingly. Paired it with their Honjozo dry sake cup, which was a nice complement to the meal and exactly the right call for a mid-afternoon bite.
