This is a ramen chain and they are in multiple location in San Francisco and they open until very late and some location at 3am. Eventhough we visited Chinatown often, I never pay attention as it is considered ou the outside of Chinatown. We visited this one when we tried to find dinner place around China town. We are on the way back and saw this and decided to give it a try. The exterior and interior were nicely decorated you will be greeted with rhe traditional drum when you got your table. There are plenty item to choose from the menu , from appetizers, ramen, bento combination and alcohol drink. We chose the hinodeya ramen and gyu don with mini ramen. For mini ramen we chose spicy miso. Our order was ready pretty quickly. It was still hot. The ramen noodle is the thick and chewy which I love. The soup for house ramen hinodeya was yummy and umami eventhough a bit salty. The topping is good. I love the charsiu and the bamboo shoot doesn't smell. If you love garlic, you must add the fried garli which is available on the table beside the red chili powder. The spicy miso ramen soup is also yummy. I also love the gyu-don. It is yummy. The ticd though , the portion is a bit a lot for us. We ended up only finished less than half of the rice. The price is reasonable and somecare quite high. It was a nice late dinner. read more

I was so impressed with Hinodeya! I got the spicy miso ramen and the soup was packed with flavor, and the noodles were cooked perfectly - just the right amount of firmness. The chashu was rich and marbly, and the egg had the perfect gooey yolk. The price was pretty standard, around $19. They also offer combo meals with a small ramen bowl and a rice bowl, which I definitely want to try next time - the price for that looks great too. Service was okay; it took a bit to get a server after trying to flag one down, but we came on a Thursday night when it was pretty packed. It took about 5 minutes to be seated. Hinodeya Ramen Bar located in the Financial District is another favorite spot while on business travel in San Francisco. Parking in SF can be a hassle but not for this place, there is a parking garage nearby across the street. Hinodeya has been one of my regular ramen spots. It is very clean and cozy inside with a dining bar. I typically sit at the bar unless I'm with a colleague(s) then we'll get a dining table. The ramen here is awesome and top notch!! I switch up orders between the ramen bowl only or the bento with mini ramen. Can't go wrong with either option! This last visit I ordered the chicken karaage with spicy miso ramen. This bento meal is served with edemame, vegetable spring roll and steamed rice. I also ordered gyoza on the side and matcha hot tea. Food here is fantabulous!!! Everything is so tasty. Make sure to add chopped fried garlic in the ramen, I add A LOT! Lol And gotta have mochi ice cream for dessert too! The staff are cool and very courteous. Service here has been very good. I just realized my last review was for the Union Square location of Hinodeya, not the FiDi one! Last night I *actually* did go to the FiDi location. Parking: one friend drove and found parking on a Thursday around 8pm within a couple blocks. They were busy, but there was no wait for 2 of us around 7pm on a Thursday. Service was ok, but we had sat for several minutes and someone came to get our orders, only to realize we never got menus. We had to ask for water and wait a bit for that. We got our starter but didn't have plates or flatware. Things always came quickly once they realized, and it didn't negatively affect our meal, but there were just several of these small things that should have been a given in terms of a sit down meal. $22.79 total per person - two of us shared one gyoza starter and one bento box. * Gyoza - 3.5 stars. Could be more crisp! * Shrimp Tempura Bento Box with Spicy Hinodeya Ramen - 3.5 stars. The tempura was very thick and dry, the shrimp a bit overcooked. The ramen was good, texture on the soft side. So good! We went for their sixth anniversary so they had a little mini raffle event going on. You better believe I signed up for their email notifications. I usually go for the more hearty ramens, but since their specialty is the clam ramen we went for that. Plenty of thinly sliced green onions in a light but flavorful broth and plenty of clams. My friend who lived in Japan for some time also approved! Note that for the noodles, there is an option to sub in spinach noodles for the wheat noodles. The spicy edamame was pretty standard, but the crispy chicken karaage stood out. The chicken was flavorful and very juicy, and the batter was perfect - crispy without being too thick or oily. The ramen was also excellent; as other reviewers mentioned, the broth is light but packed with flavor, and the noodles were cooked perfectly. They are also quite generous with the clams for the Hamaguri Ramen. The waitlist can get long, but the space is decently big and the turnover is reasonably fast. It does get pretty packed as lunch hour goes on so it is worth going a bit earlier to avoid the rush. The interior is pretty modern with high ceilings but is pretty tight with the tables inside. House Ramen - This was lightly spicy and the ramen broth had a rich umami and savory flavor to it. Paloma is a great server at Hinodeya. She is quick to greet and very hospitable with her friendly personality. Paloma is the main reason we dine here :) She is prompt and efficient, making sure we are served quickly and with orders to our liking. The financial district location is vastly different from Japantown--its much more high end with elegant decor and high ceilings. Plenty of tables as well to accommodate small to large parties. It's however oddly located in the middle of a nondescript alley by the Transamerica, making foot traffic a bit questionable. I appreciate the lunch specials offered here and will definitely look forward to returning again soon.
