Came with friends to get a quick dinner before heading to North Beach! The service was great, as the servers checked up on us and took our order swiftly. The ambiance was also quite nice. I enjoyed the wall decor, and the ambiance is a bit darker. As for food, two of my friends got the creamy vegan ramen (they're vegan and vegetarian). My other friend for a pork don with a spicy miso ramen, and I got the gyu-don with a spicy miso ramen. The food was very delicious - everything was cooked well, perfectly flavored. I like the rice plates as they come with a tiny bowl of ramen of your choice :) Overall, we would definitely come back again as we thoroughly enjoyed the dining experience!

This place absolutely hit the spot, and it was perfectly located in Chinatown ! Yu Lin Chi Ramen combo with mini spicy miso ramen weekday combo was ELITE! My boyfriend got pork Katsu, which was also very good. The earthy tones inside gave the restaurant itself a nice comforting, homey polish. The service was great, and they have a really cool story, with this restaurant originally starting at a Japanese embassy in the Netherlands. I would absolutely come here again and I low-key wish they had some in New York City!

Amazing food and quick service. Ambiance is nice and even tho there are a lot of tables in a small area, it didn't feel that way. Ordered hinodeya ramen with such good broth that reminded me of udon flavor (5/5) and spicy miso ramen (5/5) that was great. Ordered gyudon for the kiddos which we appreciated the option to order a mini ramen for, and the meat well done with such good taste (5/5).

The Highs: we were seated quickly after we entered. The Brussels sprouts were really good although they were more savory then I'm used to. I'd prefer some balsamic on it. The ramen was really good! The pork (even though I don't typically eat pork) was super tender. The Lows: the noodles in the ramen were a little thicker than I like. It was still really good though. The In-Between: we found this spot online while hanging out by the Ferry Building. It was about a 15 minute walk. Our server was friendly. The food was good. The broth was yummy. I'd come back for sure.

This is a ramen chain and they are in multiple location in San Francisco and they open until very late and some location at 3am. Eventhough we visited Chinatown often, I never pay attention as it is considered ou the outside of Chinatown. We visited this one when we tried to find dinner place around China town. We are on the way back and saw this and decided to give it a try. The exterior and interior were nicely decorated you will be greeted with rhe traditional drum when you got your table. There are plenty item to choose from the menu , from appetizers, ramen, bento combination and alcohol drink. We chose the hinodeya ramen and gyu don with mini ramen. For mini ramen we chose spicy miso. Our order was ready pretty quickly. It was still hot. The ramen noodle is the thick and chewy which I love. The soup for house ramen hinodeya was yummy and umami eventhough a bit salty. The topping is good. I love the charsiu and the bamboo shoot doesn't smell. If you love garlic, you must add the fried garli which is available on the table beside the red chili powder. The spicy miso ramen soup is also yummy. I also love the gyu-don. It is yummy. The ticd though , the portion is a bit a lot for us. We ended up only finished less than half of the rice. The price is reasonable and somecare quite high. It was a nice late dinner.

We came here for lunch on a Sunday, and it was relatively busy. I got the Spicy Miso and it was delicious. Spice level is very mild for me, but enough to enhance the tastes. Noodles were good; the meats were smoky and flavorful. Atmosphere here is very comfy; I'd strongly recommend coming here for a date. They have a variety of options like mini bento meals, which I'll definitely try next time. Price here is affordable and the food is pretty good in quality as well.

I was so impressed with Hinodeya! I got the spicy miso ramen and the soup was packed with flavor, and the noodles were cooked perfectly - just the right amount of firmness. The chashu was rich and marbly, and the egg had the perfect gooey yolk. The price was pretty standard, around $19. They also offer combo meals with a small ramen bowl and a rice bowl, which I definitely want to try next time - the price for that looks great too. Service was okay; it took a bit to get a server after trying to flag one down, but we came on a Thursday night when it was pretty packed. It took about 5 minutes to be seated. The restaurant itself is modern and really nicely designed. Overall, I'm excited to go back and try more!

Very good ramen, shareable appetizers, reasonable prices, good service & a very nice & welcoming environment. I enjoyed the little neck clams ramen, which was served with a generous portion of clams, a nice light broth flavored with clam juice & a bit of garlic, and soft ramen noodles. We shared appetizers of edamame, fried calamari, tonkatsu, chicken kaarage, and tempura prawns. We enjoyed our meal and experience here. I will be back for more meals. Thank you.

LOVED everything about this place upon waking in. Even being greeted was very genuine. They were very efficient and everything was hot and fresh! Spicy miso ramen was so good paired with my Sapporo. Try this place if you're in the area, you can't go wrong with anything they have!

Hinodeya Ramen Bar located in the Financial District is another favorite spot while on business travel in San Francisco. Parking in SF can be a hassle but not for this place, there is a parking garage nearby across the street. Hinodeya has been one of my regular ramen spots. It is very clean and cozy inside with a dining bar. I typically sit at the bar unless I'm with a colleague(s) then we'll get a dining table. The ramen here is awesome and top notch!! I switch up orders between the ramen bowl only or the bento with mini ramen. Can't go wrong with either option! This last visit I ordered the chicken karaage with spicy miso ramen. This bento meal is served with edemame, vegetable spring roll and steamed rice. I also ordered gyoza on the side and matcha hot tea. Food here is fantabulous!!! Everything is so tasty. Make sure to add chopped fried garlic in the ramen, I add A LOT! Lol And gotta have mochi ice cream for dessert too! The staff are cool and very courteous. Service here has been very good. Will definitely be back again.

We came here for lunch and conveniently located in the financial district. We got the lunch special so that we can try more than one option. The place is spacious, service was pretty quick. The food came out quick and it was overall delicious. The entrée was plentiful and I was really full afterwards. A good spot to try.

Came here after a show, liked that they're open late. The ramen felt comforting on a cold SF night. Hubby's clam was very good, my chicken ramen was on the saltier side, but still hit the spot. Liked the quick service and piping hot ramen.

Food was excellent. Service was mostly good. I didn't have a menu at or near my seat. I waited for the server to bring one and finally got up and went to get one. Server was helpful when I asked questions. Food came out quickly and was hot and delicious.

Ask the Community - HINODEYA Ramen & Bar Downtown

How many people can sit outside?

Outside tables are small 2-4 ppl per table and I want the say there are 4 maybe 6 tables.

Do I have to make a reservation to dine in?

Nope, I went on a sat night and sat right down.

Are there any soy free ramen options?

    Do they have vegan ramen?

Yes, there are 2 options for vegan ramen I believe. The creamy version is cooked with soy milk. The mushroom ramen is definitely vegan

Do they have gluten free ramen?

Yes, they had a gluten free noodle option for $1 or $2 more when I went in September

I was in SF one afternoon and decided to kill an hour by waiting in their line. I showed up at 3.10 PM and there was no line, I stood anyway and later the line built up behind me. Place is not the safest, I saw some folks trying to open the parked cars on that street hoping to find one that was unlocked . Not all folks who made it before their 4 PM opening managed to get a table in the first round. The place only seats around 20 people or so and they have a mandatory requirement that each person has to order a bowl of ramen. We got the following *enoki chips: 3/5: salty, limp, greasy to the point of floating in a pool of oil. *vegan tantanmen-2.5/5- disappointed by this one. Had better vegan ramen at several other establishments. The version here has two dominant flavors- extremely smoky and bitter. The kale didn't help as well. The enoki chashu was interesting though, had the texture of meat. *classic toripaitan-4.5/5- this was good and I can see why it got the awards. Had a rich and deep taste of chicken. All the elements helped elevate the bowl. *spicy lamb miso cumin-4/5- the flavors of cumin and lamb just shone through here. If you enjoy the flavor of lamb get this. The fried eggplant was epic in this dish. Overall, not worth the wait, the vegan ramen can be avoided unless you are a vegan. Get the classic toripaitan as that was the best.

The ambiance is extremely loud in there and the tables are very close together. So if you're looking for a quiet, less crammed space, this isn't it. The actual restaurant looks very nice, but not sure why the bar seats face a storage area with clear windows. As for the food, the calamari was delicious, they give you whole pieces of little squid. The ramen broth is very hearty and bold. When I was halfway through, it became a little too much. I do wish you're able to pick the thickness of noodles. I didn't like the thin noodles with the ramen. It actually reminded me of instant ramen. But to each their own with noodle thickness. I just wish there were options. I almost wish there was something else in the ramen to balance out the flavor besides more bold flavors from the pork and egg. It does the job but wasn't a huge wow factor. As for the service, they are pretty attentive. I didn't like how one of the servers kept hovering around the entire time grabbing anything they could off the table. The second we took off the wrappers of the chopsticks, they grabbed it. Usually I like the table cleared out to make space but it was the constant hovering that was awkward.

This dish stands out as one of the most memorable and flavorful offerings we have experienced. The rich, creamy broth delivers a perfectly balanced umami depth, harmoniously combined with subtle heat and aromatic spices that create an indulgent yet refined dining experience. Both my partner and I were thoroughly impressed by its complexity and comforting warmth, and we have continued to crave it long after the winter season. The Umami Creamy Tan-Tan-Men soup represents a true highlight of your culinary repertoire. We believe it deserves a lasting place on the regular menu, where it can be enjoyed year-round by loyal patrons and new guests alike. We were recommended a spot in the Japantown Center Mall, but settled on Hinodeya after checking Yelp. It turned out to be a great choice. We were greeted upon entering the restaurant and someone rang what to believe to be a gong?! It was a very fun addition to our experience. We were shown to a table and started browsing the menu. The interior was very clean and neat. There are plenty of options, including some for vegetarians/vegans. My two vegetarian friends ordered both of the vegan/vegetarian ramen options and were raving about them. I ordered the Hinodeya (house) ramen and it was delicious. The broth was so flavorful and the noodles were perfect. The table is set with crispy garlic or onions (can't remember) and a chili blend which were yum on top of the ramen. My friends ordered the spicy miso ramen and was satisfied despite it not being very spicy. We had great service the entire time and the prices were very reasonable. Hinodeya is a gem I will be revising on future trips to San Francisco!

The beer was cold and crisp, and the corn was super tasty--I loved the Japanese-style seasoning on it. I don't know if it was just the long day of traveling, but the ramen really slapped. The broth was rich without being too heavy, and the meat was tender and delicious. Some ramen bowls can feel a little too rich for me, but I finished this entire bowl in 10 minutes. Loved this chain, solid location, and I'd definitely come again.

Taniku Izakaya might be one of the best Japanese spots I've tried in the US. Full stop. My friend…read morewas in town and had heard about this place so naturally we go check them out. They allegedly have a few limited reservation slots but a majority of their service is first come first serve. You stand in line and wait. I would not recommend coming in large groups. In fact, I'd go as far as to say groups larger than 4 are basically contraindicated. The space inside is quite tight, think narrow, barstool-height seating and tiny tables. When my friend and I were seated after about a 40 min wait, we had spent so much time perusing the menu that we basically knew what we were going to get. Service was really kind and quick. My thoughts on the food below: Kabocha croquet: these were freshly fried and served PIPING hot. The perfectly crisp exterior and soft, non mushy interior were just the perfect textures contrasted against each other. The sweetness of the pumpkin meant that the vinegar heavy house dipping sauce was a requirement not a suggestion. The side salad also provided some freshness with each bite, not that the croquets were too greasy at all! They were well drained so just the crunch remained without the oil. Tori Tsukune: these Japanese chicken meatball skewers were HUGE and DELICIOUS. Perfectly grilled with a charred taste, relentlessly tender inside. Dipped in the accompanying soy sauce and egg yolk mixture it was simply heavenly. The yolk added a mild richness to each bite. Hotate carpaccio: this was the most unique take on scallops I've had in a while. The flavors seem strange at first glance (and first taste, if I'm being totally honest), but it took no more than two chews for me to change my tune. First off, the scallops are plump, crisply sweet, and buttery soft in the way that high quality scallops are. Next, the onion and yuzu provide a sharp yet floral aroma to each bite. The floral taste was initially jarring but became addictive. The drizzle of cream sauce on top tempered the sharpness and gave the dish a smooth finish. Truly a memorable scallop dish!! Midori udon: a scallop and pesto stir fry udon dish. This was unexpected combo when I read the menu, but it was so good! The briny and sweet little scallops were cooked to a perfect tender texture and they paired well with the mild, herbaceous pesto. The udon provided the perfect slurp. While I'm more of a soup noodle girl myself, this was an addictive and unique Japanese-Italian fusion! Niku Ramen: Taniku has a lot of inventive ramen offerings but the niku ramen stood out to me. I've had and enjoyed niku udon before, though I usually find the broth to be too sweet. This dish took all the best parts of niku udon - the mountains of tender, marinated beef, the soft boiled egg, the tender onions - and put them into a richer, heartier broth with thin ramen noodles and the outcome was fantastic. One of the most memorable bowls of ramen I've had in a while. The broth was seriously delicious. I'm such a big soup person so I keep coming back to that. It wasn't too sweet or too salty in the way that a lot of noodle soup broths are, but still managed to impart a ton of flavor. The meaty, fishy flavor was so drinkable. For the quality and quantity of food vs the price you pay, I was incredibly impressed by Taniku Izakaya!!!! Just banger after banger after banger. I saw that they have some good happy hour deals as well so I will definitely be coming back for more of their delightful apps and skewers. I cannot recommend this spot enough, there's a reason people queue for it.

I've been to plenty of Japanese/Ramen spots and I've been running into the issue where I say I have a soy allegry and there is an assumption that I have a gluten issue (I do not have a gluten issue). I noticed yelp said they have soy-free options and thus called on Friday thinking it might be a bad idea as they're usually busy.. It was defintely hard for the person to hear a bit when they picked up. The staff did relay something about gluten free noodles.. Anyways, they said they could swap out any of the soy soups for salt (but soy can encompass a lot of things so I still wasn't feeling super confident but we're going to give it a go). We go and I asked which 4 of the soups I was eyeballing don't have soy - the staff said they can accomodate and replace any of the soy soups with a salt broth. After we ordered, the staff came back and checked in to make sure that my partner also didn't have an allergy. And my dish came out, they told me there was no egg as its marinated in soy - perfect to me. I'm glad that was caught as not every establishments can account for everything. - Now I have a spot to (more safely) eat ramen! - I advise that if you do have an food allergy, do talk to the staff, and address your concerns such as cross contamination etc. I had a great experience, but I do find that because its not so regulated or understood and there is lack of education amongst the food/resturant industry - you always need to advocate for yourself and there is always a risk. I'm very apperciative of the staff here.

The veggies were endless, making each last sip enjoyable. The place was bustling with workers, but the host seemed a bit brusque. She might need a little training in good manners. Instead of welcoming us, she opened the door for herself without holding it for us, which made us hold our own door. She just left our menu without saying anything and disappeared. She could have asked the next person, who happened to be sitting side by side at a two-person table, if they were free to share. They were already done watching a video together. We had to squeeze in and awkwardly say, "Excuse me," while getting an eye roll. The host could have avoided that awkward situation by letting us know we were using the table next to them. Also, be ready to pay an automatic 5%. Tips start at 20% and go up, so at least 25% is expected. The service was okay, but the food was fantastic. The workers seemed a bit lazy and avoided us until it was time to pay. That's when they suddenly became incredibly helpful. It's surprising how tipping changes their mood so quickly. I can tell because she watches me as I select my tip, and her eyes change.
