This is a hard meh for us. Been here several times just because we wanted to support local small businesses. They have lowered their prices because their food just isn't competitive. Their teas are horrible. The worse being the lemon punch which is very bitter and has a lot of limes in it. Their milk tea is awful. Wonton soup is mediocre with very little noodles or wontons. Dim sum is frozen, they have a special where you get to choose a couple for under $20. Their porkchop rice is average but mostly overfried and needs more sauce and the rice is dry. Chow fun tastes likes like something from Panda Express. They keep changing their hours so be sure to make sure they're open especially between the hours of 2-5pm. Stopped by here on a Friday night with some friends who were craving Hainanese Chicken. When we got to the restaurant, I remembered I had come here about a year ago, and the menu had totally been revamped, either that or it was the lunch menu. Anyways we got seated quickly, and I began with a nice cold beer and we started looking at the menu. We instantly had to get the baked pork chop w. Spaghetti as that was pretty much our childhood choice, going to HK style places. We grabbed some fried fish skin in salted egg yolk and fried chicken in salted egg yolk as we haven't had that before. Both were good. I definitely never had that chicken in salted egg yolk before but it seemed to work well. We got a half order of the Hainanese chicken, and that was delicious with the sauces provided. You can never go wrong with dim sum, so we got the sui mai, har gow, steamed pork ribs, and chicken feet. All were comparable to what you would get at a dim sum restaurant in the morning, but instead we had it at 8pm! Overall, the ambiance of the place is nice and quiet, with a few families eating out, and some college students enjoying a meal. Trying out a new spot, for us, and it was a pleasant surprise. The Hainan chicken was good and the soup that came with it was so flavorful! My husband really enjoyed his Sizzling Crispy Chicken Curry. He does wish the curry was a little bit spicier and thicker, but delicious nonetheless. I got here before the lunch rush and managed to be able to be seated and have my lunch within 10 minutes. The staff were very helpful in helping me make my choice. I got a social media post about daily dinner specials for under $20 and stopped in on a Tuesday to try the Hainan Chicken rice and a side for $14.99 + $3 side dish. I was going to take the order to go so I used a kiosk that was reserved for 2 Go orders. It was easy enough to use the kiosk and there were options to customize your order to take out onions or substitute noodles (rice/egg/flat). I decided to take out the daikon/carrot spicy salad that accompanied the meal because of a pepper allergy and ordered the lettuce with oyster sauce to make up for the loss of veggies. I also decided to try the dim sum special pick 3 for $12.99. It took about 20 minutes for the food to come out. I had high hopes for this place as I heard it was under the same ownership as Koi Palace. I was disappointed in the hainan chicken as it was bland, rubbery and there was a large bone in my drumstick even though the description said boneless. The rice didn't have much flavor as well as the cabbage. I had to use the sauces to help make the food more tasty. The romaine lettuce only included a few leaves and it appeared to be singed. My go-to Hong Kong café in Millbrae is usually Orchid Café, but this new spot popped up on my IG, so I decided to give it a try. I'd say this café is definitely comparable to Orchid Café! We ordered the pineapple bun, baked cutlet rice, and Typhoon shrimp fried rice. The pineapple bun was excellent -- soft and bouncy inside with a buttery, flaky crust. It paired really well with their Hong Kong milk tea. However, the milk tea was a bit too sweet and slightly watery for my taste. I prefer a stronger tea flavor with a silkier texture. The baked cutlet rice with curry sauce was flavorful and comforting, but the cutlet crust was a little soggy. If it had been crispy, it would have been perfect. The Typhoon shrimp fried rice was really good -- very aromatic, topped with crunchy Typhoon-style garlic, and it had great wok hei. Sun suet geen (rolled tofu skin) 4/5: Only 2 of them. The filling wasn't bad but the gravy was a bit strong and salty. Chicken feet 4/5: 3 feet, nice and tender. Could have used some slices of jalepeno to give it that extra kick. Not bad for the price. Sampler XLB 3/5: 3 pieces. It was all right. Nothing special. The truffle was very slight, the crab had a few strands of crab. Okay if you just want to try different flavors but it wasn't amazing. XLB 5/5: 3 pieces. Probably a bit pricey for just 3 but it was nice and soupy. This was my favorite dish there but I would probably go somewhere else where I can get more for a better price point. Pork spareribs 1/5: This was the most disappointing as it was mainly taro root and not that many pieces of spare ribs. It was tender but didn't have that slight amount of oil to keep it moist so it was not smooth. Especially with all the taro which made it even more dry. Lava buns 3/5: Got 2 buns. It was nice and runny but the bun to lava ratio was more bread. It would have been better if there was more lava or less bun for a better balance. Considering we had 8 dishes and the cost was $42 without tip the price wasn't bad. However, you are getting smaller portions. Might be a good spot to try with the hubs since we don't eat as much but going with my son, we were both still a bit hungry after. Hahahah. Small little shop tucked away behind the crowd of In-n-Out patrons. I don't see a lot of places make 焗豬扒飯 (baked pork chop rice) or at least that I'm familiar with but eating this is always nostalgic and brings me back to my late teens and early 20s. I got the combination rice which is half tomato sauce with fried pork, and half creamy sauce with fish. The tomato sauce is tangy and sweet which compliments the more rich creaminess of the white sauce. All of this is also topped over some melted cheese and rice that has peas, corn and mushrooms. The two contrasts pair nicely. Plenty of food to keep you full too. This dish btw is on the list where it's only $15 on Mondays - Fridays between 5 pm and 8 pm. My boyfriend got the hainan chicken rice plate and chicken was very moist and tender. Sauces complemented the chicken and rice well, and honestly solidly done. The dim sum I was most surprised by because it was SO good! Honestly probs one of the best Siu Mai & Ha Gow in the peninsula. This place is always so busy when I come here. I mainly come here for the kumquat lemon green tea. I usually get this when I'm picking up lunch or dinner at L&L. Service is always fast. The Pineapple Bun with Pork Cutlet is a new item, and it was a great balance of salty and sweet, with a huge piece of juicy pork. It's the cool Asian cousin of the hamburger. The Hainan Chicken Noodle Soup felt like the perfect thing on a cold day, and you can choose the type of noodles you want. It comes with two sauces, and the scallion sauce was so good that I wanted to eat it straight off the sauce dish. My kid who usually doesn't like meat asked for more chicken so he could dip it in there. The Baked Cutlet Pork Chop Noodle with Tomato Sauce was covered with a beautiful melty cheese top that you could taste throughout the dish. You can't go wrong with this for kids, and the pork chop was so tender. You can also choose rice as the base. Came here on a whim as we were in the area and craving dim sum but didn't want to wait on a busy Saturday morning. We were seated promptly as soon as we arrived. They have both indoor and outdoor seating which is nice as we had our pup with us. We did not have high expectations for the dim sum here but I was pleasantly surprised to the quality and taste of the food. We ordered a bunch of dishes, green onion pancake (a daily special) , pan fried pork buns, ha gow, siu mai, bbq pork buns and a pork chop tomato rice. All of the dishes had good flavor, not amazing but for the price this was the perfect place to satisfy our craving. Came here around 2pm, there were only 3 tables including us so we sat anywhere. Ordered A1. hainan chicken rice w/soup, C2. Noodle with braised beef and shrimp wonton, and a can of soda. First the hainan chicken rice came first, with no chopsticks or soup. The rice was very yellow, not fragrant, came with 3 different sauces (ginger, chili, and some sweet soy sauce). The noodles is wonton style noodle and the veggies were just 2 pieces of lettuce. As we were eating, we found a string of plastic inside the rice. We raised our hands to get their attention and notified them and thats when they brought in the can of soda (came at the end as if it was dessert). It was very e to find a plastic in there so we returned the food to the kitchen. Overall, the food items are very expensive, taste below average, and service was lacking. We won't be coming back here. Drive a little bit more to Millbrae downtown and you'll find gazillion more Chinese food that are decently priced and tasty read more

Tucked near In and Out burger off 101 and across from Lucid. Another hidden gem. There shrimp won ton with noodle is a knock out. They are related to koi palace so there dim sum is of high quality without going to koi palace. All foods are tasty and fresh and hot. I ordered the braised beef noodle soup and dim sum sampler. The braised beef noodle soup had a rich, flavorful broth with tender pieces of bone in beef. However, the sweetness in the broth was slightly overpowering and a bit too pronounced for my taste. The dim sum sampler was decently prepared. There are better places for the type of food Sticks and Steam serves. What they have going for them is all day dim sum and a clean restaurant. They do have a limited $15 weekday menu. The food is missing that wow factor. We had the Hainan chicken rice plate $16.75, baked tomato pork chop rice $15 and a wonton noodle soup $15. Their version of Hainan chicken rice is missing that chicken stock flavor in the rice. At least they got the ginger and sweet chili sauces right. I also would have preferred the traditional cucumbers instead of pickled vegetables. The baked tomato pork chop rice and wonton noodles were no better. The flavors were off. At least the kitchen is fast and service was excellent. read more

I came here twice. This is my friend's favorite place so I always went here with my friend. It's a little restaurant with limited seat but comfortable. It's not too loud and just perfect for quick meal. Their service was quick: they'll give you a menu and take your order. Food will come out really quickly too. Their food was big portion. Unfortunately, their noodles were not that great. It's really lack of flavor and tasted flat. Their rice dishes were great though! I love their pork chop baked rice and also the pork katsu specials. Their chicken rice was also good, but somehow their boiled chicken was not exactly appealing because it has too much fat and bland. Their fried chicken though... yum! Love this place. read more
