Panang curry with tonkatsu and scrambled egg
    Sarah Y.

I really wanted to try this place out and i finally did! I was needing a quick dinner and I had come close to 8 ( they close at 8:30). What seemed to be the owner, sat me thankfully! The whole interior of the restaurant is so cozy and clean! Now for the food, oh my goodness. Probably the comfiest homiest meal I've had in Monterey. The scrambled egg was cooked perfectly and it went well with the curry and tonkatsu. The curry itself is a little on the sweeter side but when you add the peppers, it makes it well balanced! Portion sizes are huge and will definitely fill you up. I'll definitely be coming back and bringing my friends here!

The seating area and they also have 2-3 seats outside available if it's not too hot or cold

We came in literally with 30min before closing . I literally felt so bad but just wanted something that wasn't super expensive or that wasn't seafood or Italian or Mexican food . Jose let us sit at the bar since other option would be to sit outside but it was too cold. When we came in the place was already packed with every seat occupied. Tbh when I saw this driving by I was just wanting something comforting and warm since the weather was super cold already. My husband and I ordered the butter chicken - very tasty, the chicken was so tender and moist, with a side of naan, and the khao soi with medium rare steak - this was the best ever !! Super flavorful , the meat was perfectly cooked and so tender, the broth just rich and delicious like I could have wanted 2 more bowls to take home, and the noodles were very well cooked to perfection and was not mushy in texture. There needs to be one in LA so sad we won't be having this in a long time but glad to have discovered it during our stay here. Definitely one to try if around the Monterey area

There could never be too many Thai restaurants in the area so I am super excited to welcome this new place to the neighborhood. Curry Journey seems like an authentic Thai establishment - not Americanized and diluted to fit the milder palette - but instead focused on doing things the right way, to achieve the amazing depths of flavor that Thai food is known for. The ambience of this restaurant is relaxed and casual and the service is friendly and authentic. The food comes out, looking almost identical to what you see on the online menu, which is really saying something because the online menu looks extremely appetizing and picture perfect. And they can customize food options to fit any diet from vegan to the carnivore. Bravo to the chef's here. I hope they achieve great success, and persevere in the neighborhood.

my boyfriend said this is the best curry he has ever tasted and he has lived in japan and we are from LA. definitely says something! the dishes here are vibrant, packed with flavor, and feature quality meats. his chicken katsu was crispy and fresh. the beef cheek melted in my mouth. loved the fusion of flavors. felt like a celebration of all curries!

Amazing customer service from the server. I forgot his name but he had a Raiders jersey on and food was amazing. The roasted duck with panang and rice was the best followed right after the butter chicken. The golden tea wasn't my favorite. Overall, great vibe and the seats were comfortable and so unique! Will definitely return.

Curry Journey hit the spot overall. The butter chicken was creamy and comforting, and the duck ended up being the star -- super flavorful and cooked just right. Everything came together nicely with the rice. Only thing we noticed: for the price, the chicken portion felt a bit limited. Otherwise, solid flavors and an easy, satisfying meal.

    Khao Soi with steak option

$25 Khao Soi: curry broth, noodles with steak option. Absolutely fantastic. Rich and creamy. I want to come back immediately and explore the menu further.

Amazing curry - probably the best I've had in a while. Service was fast and efficient, and the owner was really kind and welcoming. Definitely coming back!

This legit qualifies as a pleasant surprise. We arrived late into Monterey, hungry, and stumbled upon Curry Journey walking around the Aquarium Area. While the restaurant was pretty empty, we decided to give it a shot after looking at the menu - and we're glad we did. We sat outside in the wind, as we had our dogs, but the staff did everything they could to help mitigate that wind (thank you Curry Journey team!) What we ordered: 1. Chicken Satay - Nailed it! Nothing out of the ordinary which is exactly what we're looking for. Consistent cook, solid flavor and nice pb + sweet chili sauce 2. Fried Artichoke - A nice nod to the region, not greasy at all, and solid texture 3. Thai Rolls w/ Tofu - Again, nothing out of the ordinary, which again, is exactly what one should be looking for. Fresh ingredients + the wrapper was fresh, had good pull, but wasn't overly chewy. PERFECT 4. Butter Chicken w/ Naan - A bit on the punchy side, but tasty. It'd be great if it had a side salad to add some color and contrast to the curry 5. Massaman Pot Pie - The highlight of the meal, a thai pot pie! Who wouldn't want a rich, flavorful Massaman in a buttery, crisp pot pie?!?!? (with a side of naan). Pricy at $25. but worth the once in a lifetime experience. 6. Panang Curry with Veggies - Nothing out of the ordinary, but exactly what should be expected when ordering a red curry with veggies. Creamy, curry, veggies, with rice? YES 7. Yellow Curry with Veggies - Again, nothing out of the ordinary, but Curry Journey nailed it. We ordered the yellow curry with noodles, which were cooked perfectly. A good bite to them, not gluey/sticky, and not too al dente. If you're looking for guidance for choosing between rice and noodles? They're both excellent, but I'd steer towards the noodles as a bit out of the norm. 8. Khiao-Wan - Steak with green curry was a nice collision of flavors. The steak was slightly over cooked at a medium, but worked well with the green curry. The most impressive part of the meal? Finding out that Curry Journey has been open for only 3 months! Excellent work and we look forward to coming back the next time we're in the Monterey Area! I highly recommend this spot!

The photo speaks for itself. We were visiting from LA and decided to try this spot since I've never seen Thai curry served this way before (I'm Thai) Needless to say it was the best meal I've had in a while. The concept paired perfectly and every bite was a flavor bomb. They were playing chill Thai music which added to the overall ambiance. Sad that this is their only location and not to be dramatic but we will make that 5 hour drive up again just to eat here. Thank you to our server Jose and the owner Nui for the amazing service, we will be back!

Yellow Curry and Thai Tea Togo

I decided to try out Curry Journey now that they've been open for a little while, and I'm glad I did. I ordered the Yellow Curry and a Thai Tea to go. The Yellow Curry starts at $11 and comes with rice, with the option to add your choice of protein for an additional charge. I chose to order it without a protein, and it was still very filling. The curry came with plenty of carrots, potatoes, and peas, which gave it that classic homemade feel. The coconut flavor really came through, and the spice level was very mild, which was perfect for me. It's the kind of meal that's especially comforting on a cold day. 5/5 The Thai Tea was $5.50 and a great size. You really can't go wrong with a Thai Tea, and this one was delicious--definitely a 5/5. The service was excellent from start to finish. I was greeted with a warm smile when I walked in, the staff happily answered my questions, and my food was ready in under 10 minutes. Overall, everything was delicious, the service was friendly and efficient, and I will definitely be coming back. It's always great to support a small local business, and Curry Journey made a great first impression.

My husband and I are celebrating our 30th Wedding Anniversary with a weekend getaway in Carmel and Monterey. Upon our arrival in Monterey, after a two-hour drive, we searched Yelp for Thai food and discovered Curry Journey, which had glowing 5-star reviews. Thus, we decided to give it a try! We were immediately seated by Enon and Jose (who was training on his first day shadowing Enon). Both were incredibly hospitable and friendly. Enon took the time to walk us through the menu and offered excellent recommendations on both food and drinks. I especially loved their "Curry Journey" concept and the variety of meats available with the different curry sauces. Our drinks and appetizer arrived promptly. The shrimp spring rolls were beautifully presented and incredibly fresh. The peanut sauce was outstanding -- warm, perfectly spiced, and packed with flavor. It truly made the dish! Our main courses also came out in a timely manner, with lovely presentation that made them even more appealing and appetizing! The flavors were superb and absolutely exceeded our expectations. Also, the prices on the menu were very reasonable. Furthermore, the ambiance was relaxed and down-to-earth, with a calming, peaceful vibe that made the evening even more enjoyable. Moreover, as we were leaving, we had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Nui. He was warm, humble, and genuinely welcoming. A huge heartfelt thank you to Nui, Enon, Jose, and the talented cooks behind the scenes for a definitely true 5-star experience. You all helped to make the first night of our anniversary weekend getaway memorable with exceptional quality Thai food and wonderful service. We'll definitely be back when we are in the area!

    No veggies, basically just sauce.

We ordered take out one evening. We had called ahead, but still had to wait 20 minutes more than the given time restaurant to get the order. The staff were nice about it. The yellow curry sauce was tasty, but the 4 bites of chicken provided in the dish were not to my liking. There were very few vegetables as well. I had to add my own vegetables to make it a satisfying meal. We ordered a second curry dish with noodles. The chicken thigh is provided with the skin on it. Again, there were not many ingredients in the sauce, but the sauce was good. And the food was not inexpensive.

They all sounded delicious though with crab filling and shrimp. We ordered: THAI SPRING ROLLS - small bite-sized rolls filled with silver noodles. Cute and crispy. Not greasy is always a plus! SPINACH - a vegetable dish you can order with your choice of protein. We went with tofu. The dish had thin slices of fried tofu and big slices of mushroom. Well-balanced, well-season and not overcooked. You can enjoy each ingredient as they're meant to be. CURRY NOODLE - I wanted curry and also wanted a noodle dish. This combined both of what we were looking for. We ordered this with pork. This was soupier than what I imagined. I wish it were drier or a thicker broth, but it was still good. THAI NY STEAK - This was our favorite. The steak was cooked medium, sliced and served with a stir-fry of mixed veggies. The homemade Thai sauce is what makes this dish so special. It's tangy with a little spice. So good! Food came out fairly quickly. Service was wonderful. The owner was very sweet and personable. He made us feel like we were long time customers. When we're back in Monterey we'd like to come back and try more dishes!

So creamy and savory, and the mafaldine pasta has such a nice texture, the ruffled edges hold on to sauce perfectly. We also added a bit of gochujang that came with the bibimbap and it was so good with some spice. - Dolsot bibimbap: my husband's favorite Korean dish so of course we had to get it!
