Today I used AI in my Tesla and asked where the best Pad Thai with fresh local seafood in Monterey was and it told me that Siamese Bay restaurant was absolutely incredible. My car was absolutely correct. The Pad Thai had shelled muscles, huge beautiful, delicious scallops, perfectly done shrimp and calamari. It was delicious. We had a great day at the Monterey Bay aquarium, which was totally packed, so I expected this place to have a huge wait, and we were seated immediately, and the food came out very quickly. The food and service here were both excellent. I stopped in during my trip to Monterey for dinner here and had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Sam, who was very friendly and attentive. Both the appetizer and main dish I ordered were perfectly cooked and very flavourful. I requested my main dish to be made spicy and they happily accommodated and delivered with the perfect level of spice. The portions were quite generous, including the meat portion of the dish. The overall ambiance of the restaurant is very nice - the decor and music is very reminiscent of my time in Thailand. When I walked in to Siamese Bay, I was immediately impressed by its quaint charm and the quietness of the restaurant. There was plenty of seating, and my party of 9 was seated immediately. Unfortunately, despite the charming ambiance, the food was a letdown. The portions were very small for the price. The curry only had a smear of curry on the plate, and we asked for more but they told us they were unable to give us more. We got the panang curry, pad thai, pad see ew, thai fried rice and tom yum soup but ended up having to order two of everything because the portions were so tiny. The Bangkok duck was the star of the meal for us. The skin was crispy and meat was juicy. Flavor was excellent and I'd definitely get this again. The drunken noodle was just ok for me, in terms of flavor, and the portion was a lot smaller than I'm used to. This was my least favorite. The Siamese Kai curry had huge pieces of tender chicken and the flavor was great. I didn't know what to expect from this as I haven't seen it at other Thai restaurants so it piqued our interest. I wouldn't mind ordering this again. Of course, we ordered a side of rice to go with it that was large enough to share between 4 people. Also ordered the eggplant dish, which was very tasty. I just love eggplant dishes. The Thai iced tea was not too sweet. There was a lot of ice but it's comparable to other restaurants in the Bay and for half the usual price I'm used to paying so it was a steal! The owner was really friendly. We came about an hour before closing and talked and lingered for a bit. I appreciated that he didn't rush us. Mediocre food, relatively high prices ($300 for party of 8). For example, curries do not include rice, which is an extra $2 charge. Tom yum soup was watery (relatively low amount of shrimp and mushrooms) and bland. Service was fine, but we were one of only two tables at the time. One member of our party got violently ill after the meal (likely due to the mussels). Not the worst restaurant but certainly not worth the trip. read more

Service was great, along with the ambiance of the restaurant. The food has fallen short on flavor; I've been here a few times in the past and it was better then. They also used to offer a lunch buffet. The chicken had no flavor even eating it with the peanut sauce. The soup was heavy on the lemongrass flavor with the rice being a little too over cooked and soggy. I didn't have time to tell Sam the owner but I know he would want to get it fixed for me. I visited Siamese Bay Restaurant and ordered Pad Thai Noodles with scallops along with Thai Tea. Unfortunately, the Pad Thai was very sour, and the vegetables were wilted and not fresh, even showing signs of spoilage. The scallops didn't taste fresh either, which made the dish even more disappointing. I couldn't eat it at all. The Thai Tea was delicious but a bit too sweet for my taste. The service, however, was excellent, and the staff's humor was the only highlight of my visit. I'm actually glad I came alone and not with my family, as I could only drink the tea and leave the food almost untouched. I chose this restaurant based on reviews, so I'm leaving mine in return. I love that everything was separated on the plate - it makes everything taste so much better - like the bean sprouts were crisp and fresh being separated instead of soggy mixed in with the noodles like a lot of other places do it - and the noodles, omg the taste of the noodles and whatever sauce they were cooked in were amazing - plus the duck was perfectly cooked, a generous portion, and complimented the taste of noodles so well. I'm pretty sure our waiter was the owner of the restaurant, and he was just the kindest to us and quickly brought out our food and drinks. The tables were nicely spaced, especially the one we sat at, and the inside was picturesque and well set up. The bathroom was also kept clean, which is always appreciated. There's a pic of Clint Eastwood who dined here, what looks like over 20 yrs ago. I ordered a Thai iced tea and it was delicious , $3. We started with the Tom Yum soup bowl, $18. It had at least 6 prawns, lots of sliced mushrooms and nice sour taste. The chicken curry was very watery, like a thin soup. It was OK. The pork Pad Thai had nice noodles which tasted better than the pork meat. The waiter was very nice and service was attentive. We also had a pineapple curry with duck. The duck was good, and there was a LOT of pineapple, but it tasted like it came out of a can, and I was disappointed there were zero other vegetables. So that was a little bit of a let-down. The rice was fragrant jasmine, and very nice and fluffy. We ordered everything mild, and it still had flavor, which was good. We searched for a Thai place on the way back from a day of sight-seeing and so glad we found this place. It was so quaint and charming . The food was amazing, not over-powered by sauces like so many Thai places we have been. I had the Ginger with onions, mushrooms and garlic and steamed rice and my husband combined 2 appetizers for his meal- dumplings and chicken satay and all of our food was incredible. Siamese Bay is one of the local gems of Monterey. The owner has been there for a long time. My first must have been over 6 years ago and the food was amazing. This year, we decided to visit again, and the food was still amazing. Our server was honest and told us what most people would prefer rather than picking the most expensive dish as the best one. In total, there were five of us we shared several dishes, which I suggest you do as well when you visit. I have long desired to have some Tom Yum Kai soup and they had the best I have had in a long time. We also love Larb Nur. They do not have it, but their Larb Kai was amazing. We also had the Drunken Noodles, Green Curry, Cashew Nuts with Chicken, Eggplant with Pork, and Pad See-ew with pork, all tasted delicious. The restaurant is old because, again, it is a gem. What a great find! This place has been here almost 40 years and there were so many people that were there tonight that were regulars. They were on a first name basis with the owner. Some people have been coming here for 35+ years. I'm not sure what their secret is but I can tell you the food was PHENOMENAL!! We ordered the Hawaiian fried rice. It was not greasy and was seasoned perfectly. It had chicken, cashews and shrimp. My wife ordered the eggplant (braised) with chicken. The sauce was probably the best sauce we've tasted. Ale also had tofu spring rolls which were rolled tightly (just the way I like it). Ingredients were fresh. The peanut sauce and sweet chili sauce added another level of taste.
