Siamese Bay is one of my favorite restaurants in Monterey! From the moment you walk in, the beautiful décor and unique atmosphere make you feel like you are actually in Thailand. It's warm, clean, and inviting. The food is consistently fresh and delicious. Some of my favorite dishes are the fresh rolls with peanut sauce, the Thai salads, and the mixed vegetables with peanut sauce. I love their Thai Tea! What truly sets this restaurant apart, though, is the exceptional hospitality. Sam, the owner, is very kind and always welcoming. He's always greeting guests with a smile and genuinely makes you feel appreciated. One Christmas Eve, or Christmas Day, (I can't remember which one) my family arrived late after the restaurant was already full. Even though they were busy and were closing soon, Sam welcomed us in. That kindness meant so much to us, and it's something I'll never forget. Between the outstanding food, authentic atmosphere, and incredible service, you won't be disappointed. The Pad Thai was definitely the highlight, perfectly cooked noodles coated in a rich, balanced sauce, and the beef was tender and flavorful. You really can't go wrong with it. The Panang Curry was also very enjoyable. The curry itself was creamy and full-bodied, and pairing it with rice really brought out the depth of flavor. I ordered it with chicken, which was good, but I do wish there had been a bit more of it. The Tom Kah Kai was incredibly rich and aromatic. The broth had a deep, comforting flavor, and the mushrooms were surprisingly the star, soaking up the soup and adding an extra layer of umami that made each bite better than the last. Service was fast and attentive, with the staff consistently checking in and keeping water filled, which I appreciated. Very attentive service, and friendly owner. My partner absolutely loved his green curry and raved about how tasty it was the whole dinner. My pad Thai was okay, not really what I expected. The sauce was way sweeter than I usually find for pad Thai, and the noodles were a little over cooked. Once I got past the initial shock to the tastebuds, it wasn't bad, though. The seating area has some really cool traditional decor, and some interesting and intricate carvings and paintings. I would've probably given it a 3 star if my partner hadn't loved his curry so much, so I'd say go for the curry, avoid the noodles. read more

Today I used AI in my Tesla and asked where the best Pad Thai with fresh local seafood in Monterey was and it told me that Siamese Bay restaurant was absolutely incredible. My car was absolutely correct. The Pad Thai had shelled muscles, huge beautiful, delicious scallops, perfectly done shrimp and calamari. It was delicious. We had a great day at the Monterey Bay aquarium, which was totally packed, so I expected this place to have a huge wait, and we were seated immediately, and the food came out very quickly. When I walked in to Siamese Bay, I was immediately impressed by its quaint charm and the quietness of the restaurant. There was plenty of seating, and my party of 9 was seated immediately. Unfortunately, despite the charming ambiance, the food was a letdown. The portions were very small for the price. The curry only had a smear of curry on the plate, and we asked for more but they told us they were unable to give us more. We got the panang curry, pad thai, pad see ew, thai fried rice and tom yum soup but ended up having to order two of everything because the portions were so tiny. Our total was ~$250 and we were still hungry afterwards. Although the service was friendly and the restaurant itself was a vibe, I would not come back. read more

The Bangkok duck was the star of the meal for us. The skin was crispy and meat was juicy. Flavor was excellent and I'd definitely get this again. The drunken noodle was just ok for me, in terms of flavor, and the portion was a lot smaller than I'm used to. This was my least favorite. The Siamese Kai curry had huge pieces of tender chicken and the flavor was great. I didn't know what to expect from this as I haven't seen it at other Thai restaurants so it piqued our interest. I wouldn't mind ordering this again. Of course, we ordered a side of rice to go with it that was large enough to share between 4 people. Also ordered the eggplant dish, which was very tasty. I just love eggplant dishes. The Thai iced tea was not too sweet. There was a lot of ice but it's comparable to other restaurants in the Bay and for half the usual price I'm used to paying so it was a steal! The owner was really friendly. We came about an hour before closing and talked and lingered for a bit. I appreciated that he didn't rush us. From the 20+ year-old massive picture of the restaurateurs posing with Clint Eastwood in the entryway, you can see that this place is long past its glory days. Mediocre food, relatively high prices ($300 for party of 8). For example, curries do not include rice, which is an extra $2 charge. Tom yum soup was watery (relatively low amount of shrimp and mushrooms) and bland. Service was fine, but we were one of only two tables at the time. One member of our party got violently ill after the meal (likely due to the mussels). Not the worst restaurant but certainly not worth the trip. read more

Service was great, along with the ambiance of the restaurant. The food has fallen short on flavor; I've been here a few times in the past and it was better then. They also used to offer a lunch buffet. The chicken had no flavor even eating it with the peanut sauce. The soup was heavy on the lemongrass flavor with the rice being a little too over cooked and soggy. I didn't have time to tell Sam the owner but I know he would want to get it fixed for me. The food and service here were both excellent. I stopped in during my trip to Monterey for dinner here and had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Sam, who was very friendly and attentive. Both the appetizer and main dish I ordered were perfectly cooked and very flavourful. I requested my main dish to be made spicy and they happily accommodated and delivered with the perfect level of spice. The portions were quite generous, including the meat portion of the dish. The overall ambiance of the restaurant is very nice - the decor and music is very reminiscent of my time in Thailand. I visited Siamese Bay Restaurant and ordered Pad Thai Noodles with scallops along with Thai Tea. Unfortunately, the Pad Thai was very sour, and the vegetables were wilted and not fresh, even showing signs of spoilage. The scallops didn't taste fresh either, which made the dish even more disappointing. I couldn't eat it at all. The Thai Tea was delicious but a bit too sweet for my taste. The service, however, was excellent, and the staff's humor was the only highlight of my visit. I'm actually glad I came alone and not with my family, as I could only drink the tea and leave the food almost untouched. I chose this restaurant based on reviews, so I'm leaving mine in return. We stopped here on a whim, tired of looking for places to eat and we saw a street parking spot open up right in front of this restaurant so it seemed like fate. Walked in and were seated very quickly at the table of our choice - we got a two person table right by the windo, which was really nice. I ordered the pad thai noodle lunch special with duck for $15 - such a great price for the fresh and tasty duck and noodles. I love that everything was separated on the plate - it makes everything taste so much better - like the bean sprouts were crisp and fresh being separated instead of soggy mixed in with the noodles like a lot of other places do it - and the noodles, omg the taste of the noodles and whatever sauce they were cooked in were amazing - plus the duck was perfectly cooked, a generous portion, and complimented the taste of noodles so well. I'm pretty sure our waiter was the owner of the restaurant, and he was just the kindest to us and quickly brought out our food and drinks. The tables were nicely spaced, especially the one we sat at, and the inside was picturesque and well set up. The bathroom was also kept clean, which is always appreciated.
