This is a cute spot in Monterey for Vietnamese cuisine. Apparently, they are a chain, but I haven't been to other locations. Even though they were a little busy, we got seated right away, and it didn't take too long for our food to come out. They offer a wide selection of milk tea and boba drinks, as well as many Vietnamese classics. I wasn't in the mood for soup, so I ordered the beef with glass noodles instead of pho, which would have been my go-to. It was very fresh. This is a good place to pop in for a quick Vietnamese meal. They do have a parking lot, but it was full when we got there, and it was easy enough to find street parking. read more

To be fair I've only ordered 2 things ever, but!! Just off those two items . I constantly come back. The wonton soup was amazing, flavorful and authentic, but the star of the show for me, which I've ordered over and over. Bbq pork bahn mi. It's perfect balance of fresh jalepeno and cucumber, contrasts the delicious tender pork so nicely, I'm typically ordering at least once a week . Keep up the good work guys! read more

my family and i were staying at inn nearby so decided to try it since my family and i are big fans of vietnamese food. service was ok. server wasn't really too attentive and didn't bring us anything we asked for ...we had to ask more than once.... and food was terrible. i've never had bon bo hue but have pho/vietnamese all the time as well as did my research on it before trying it and it was very underwhelming. meat was very dry and hard to chew, sweet yet flavorless and not at all spicy ? my husband tries the 5A combo pho and the meat was also dry broth was too sweet with no actual beef notes just water and sugar. overall very disappointed and will not be trying again when we come back. read more

Five stars. I got the vegan pho, and loved it. The $2 for a large is so worth it - got a full meal of leftovers despite eating a lot in the restaurant. The broth was maybe not the most flavorful but the tofu was super good, broth was solid, and they were very generous with noodles and veggies. My partner really enjoyed his tofu ramen dish (though he wished there was less celery). So cute and cozy on the inside with cute outdoor seating as well. Service was super fast, food came probably within 15 minutes of ordering. Value was so high; we got large entrees for $16 each (which as I said meant two meals for me and my partner left veryyyyy full). Would come back every weekend if I lived here. read more

After a long, chilly day at Laguna Seca Raceway, my boyfriend and I were craving something warm and comforting, so we checked out the nearest pho spot. The place was pretty small and filled up fast around dinner time. We both ordered the 5B--combination noodle soup--and it totally exceeded our expectations. The broth was rich and flavorful, with plenty of noodles and a generous amount of meat. The regular size is the standard, with the option to upgrade to a large for $2 more. I liked that they offer fresh handmade noodles, but I stuck with the classic pho noodles. The staff was super friendly, and the prices were surprisingly affordable. Came here to grab lunch for a Dr office that requested PHO! Food was made super quickly! The guy working in front was really friendly. He forgot my drink (I wasn't charged for it) and then when I realized I was missing it and I pointed it out, he still didn't charge me! The office really liked their food! They all got soups and egg rolls/spring rolls and I got the chicken salad. Amazing service! The food was the best we tasted in the city. If you're looking for bomb food in Monterey. This is the ONLY spot. It's equivalent if not better than the Vietnamese restaurants in Los Angeles. The prices are fair. We ordered pho, dry noodles, egg rolls, spring rolls, popcorn chicken and ice cream. Chopstix - #3 MEATBALLS NOODLE SOUP - Vietnamese Near Me - Monterey, California

While on a brief weekend stay in Monterey, my husband and I realized we were staying right next to Chopstix! I hadn't heard of this restaurant, but after realizing they served Vietnamese cuisine, we just had to try it (at my request of course). The restaurant is somewhat small, with both indoor and outdoor seating. There is a sign at the entrance that says "please be seated," meaning you can find your own seat. I mistakenly assumed the sign read "please wait to be seated," and ended up waiting at the door for a few seconds, only to be kindly greeted and shown to an available indoor seat. The wait staff were quite pleasant and engaging. The food was pretty great as well. For appetizers, my husband and I shared an order of basil popcorn chicken and a half order of spring rolls with grilled shrimp (I had already eaten half the roll before taking the picture). A full spring roll order gets you two rolls cut in half (or 4 pieces). The half order is one roll cut in half (or two pieces). The shrimp could've used a bit more grilling, as it didn't look much different than the regular boiled shrimp. Good news is, there's no price difference and the roll was still good. Now, that basil popcorn chicken was AMAZING! Great flavor, tender, juicy chicken pieces, light crunch from the breading, great sauce pairing (sweet chili), and it came out piping hot! That dish alone was five stars! For entrees, I had the classic combination beef pho (pho dac biet). The meat was fresh, the veggies were crisp, their chili oil is great (and quite spicy), and the broth was pretty good. It's not the best broth I've ever had, though. There was a peppery, zingy flavor present in the broth that I wasn't used to, but overall, it was good. My husband had the fried rice platter with garlic parmesan chicken wings. He initially asked our server if the wings could come without the parmesan and just come with the garlic seasoning/flavor, and was told that he could. When his order came out, they were made regular (with the parmesan), but he decided not to send them back. The wings were fresh off of the stove, piping hot, the parmesan was not too overpowering, but could've used just a tinge more salt. The fried rice was pretty good as well (a bit dry in my opinion, but good flavor). My husband enjoyed his platter, even though the wings didn't come as expected. The only thing besides the wing flavor confusion was that he anticipated a slightly larger portion than he received. Other than that, our time at Chopstix was great! My wife and I picked up an order to go. She brought it home and we poured our large and medium pho into our respective bowls. I have to say I was fairly disappointed with the amount of beef in each order. My wife's medium bowl had 3 slices of beef and my large had 6. These slices are basically paper thin so it's probably less than 2-4oz of meat in there. I'm all about places being successful and turning a profit but that just seems beyond greedy. Besides the portions, the pho really lacked much flavor at all. The broth barely had much color. Food was good, but I noticed an obvious math error after receiving my receipt: Subtotal 68.21 + tax 6.31 = $77.13 (The total should be $74.52). I'm not sure where the extra $2.61 is coming from. There's a sign posted that indicates customers get a discount for paying with cash. Since I wasn't paying with cash, I will need to pay the original full amount... except there's a hidden illegal fee added to the final total. The tip is also calculated based on this hidden fee. I come here for three things! #11 Lemongrass beef or chicken over vermicelli noodles, the spring rolls and boba!! It was a biweekly favorite for me and my CSUMB classmates from 2012-2017. I came in here after hearing the name a lot. I grabbed 4 different things to go; 2 different types of spring rolls, egg rolls, and fish balls. Do NOT get the fish balls, it's a rubbery, hard to eat ball of unrecognizable fish. I had to throw the whole serving away after trying very hard to take a bite out of one, even though I did it... I did not feel as if I had succeeded.... The spring rolls are rubbery and don't taste fresh, and the noodles inside are inedible. The only good thing was the pork egg rolls. Very disappointing... Came here after visiting Monterey Bay aquarium. Weather was on the cooler side so a bowl of soup would be perfect so we stopped by this place for some Pho. Once we arrived, the place was packed and they were going to be closing in another hour. It's a small place and looks like it can be pretty busy at times, at least this time when we went. Pho was pretty cheap at 12.99 compare to the ones in my city. Pho is decent. Wish the broth was more flavorful. Flavorful as in having a richer fat content. They did give me a good protein portion of meat although the menu said I was suppose to get two shrimp, which I only received one. Once we got seated, we scanned the QR code on the table for the menu and was already ready to order. Inform the staff they we were ready to order and the staff said she'll be getting someone to take our order. The staff came out to take our order but went to the wrong table to take another tables order when they arrive long after we did. That was an unpleasant experience. We also ordered the fried calamari and it came out fresh. Food flavor is okay, kind of bland. Not sure why it's call 5 spice chicken when I taste no spice. Shrimp egg rolls are perfect! Crispy and hot. fried rice tastes okay not too flavor. Pho broth is bland. Peach green tea is flavorful but the coconut juice has a chlorine water taste with it. Service is quick. I prefer not to use their wooden chopstick because I am not sure if it is sterilize properly since they brought me a fork that still have a piece of dry lettuce it. They also have a private parking lot in case you decide to drive there. It is a nice restaurant. Service was welcoming and polite. Tables are clean but a little small. There wasn't too much space so we asked the waitress to take empty plates to make room. We ordered a pho tai no vien (beef and meatballs noodle soup), pho ga (chicken noodle soup), udon soup, and a sweet and sour pork rice platter. All were flavorful and light. We also tried the fried banana (good dessert to end the meal). We thought it was an egg roll at first, but once we bit into it, it was clear it was fried banana. This restaurant also has an extensive boba menu, and it's the closest one near us, so obviously I had to get some.
