Yesterday we popped in on a whim and found it was one of the evenings that Curry Leaf does a buffet. One of the things that's really wonderful about this restaurant is - not only is the food wonderfully flavorful and of top quality; these folks can COOK - you find many dishes here you don't run across in most of the "cater to the lowest common denominator" Indian restaurants. At Curry Leaf, you'll find both northern and southern dishes. And if you go when there's a buffet, you'll find the dishes actually _change_ - and there are a variety of them, and they're cerebral. (Ever see aamrakhand on a buffet before? I never have - and this mango/saffron pudding is haunting my taste buds' memory this morning.) Yes, you'll find the classics well represented, but I've never seen goat chettinad on a buffet anywhere else in the US. I'm past the age of eat-until-I-can't-move, but the buffet at Curry Leaf was so good that it's the next morning and I already have a hankering to return. Oh! And I forgot to add that the tiny fried green chile for the sandwiches was the tastiest green chile this New Mexican has had so far this year! Ah, and the dosas are just wonderful - quite a variety - and included with the buffet (so are the naan). Curry Leaf also has a good variety of beers and some wines. Service is polite and friendly and omnipresent without being intrusive in a comfortable room where a group, a couple or a few friends can always find seating. Wow! Wow! Wow! Once again The Curry Leaf hits it out of the park! My mom wanted to get carry out from The Curry Leaf for Mother's Day so of course I obliged. We ordered a bit of everything, from curried goat to saag paneer, from garlic naan to chicken makhani and biryani. Our entire meal was superb! Every time we eat here, I am pleasantly surprised about how amazing the food tastes. Not only is the food delicious, but they get our order correct every time. We are generally ordering numerous items and we have yet to be shorted. I'm always very impressed with their team and service. I have been inside The Curry Leaf before and I can tell you that it's beautiful. It has an open floor plan and lots of light. This is my favorite Indian restaurant so I will definitely be back. I came here for lunch by myself on a friday around 12:30 pm. There were a few tables occupied, more filled while i was there. This is probably my fourth time over the years. There appears to be new owners. The atmosphere is consistenly lovely. I had the buffet with a glass of wine and garlic naan. Lunchtime another Indian buffet works for me. Interior of this place is understated, but tables have a nearly fine dining place setting. We were there towards the end of the buffet time so as expected the food was just warm. The naan was fresh & hot. The buffet selections were adequate and offered some of the staples and a few things not seen before. The majority of food displayed were vegan/vegetarian. There was enough meat to keep this carnivore interested. I liked the Chicken Makhani (tandoori chicken in a tomato sauce with herbs) It was delicious with a little heat. This is my first time here. It is a small place and it looks new. I am here for lunch. Clearly most people eat from the buffet. I wanted to order from the menu and that threw them off a bit. They brought me a check as if I had finished and I had to ask for a menu (for the third time). They were very very apologetic when they realized their mistake. The tables have tablecloths and the napkins are very soft, which I like. As 1:00 approaches, the place is definitely emptying out in a significant way. I do see where multiple small tables could be moved together for groups. If you have a big group, I would definitely call ahead, otherwise it might be too busy to seat you. I see someone with a to go order in a foil tray. That is much better than adding more plastic to the ocean. There is a small selection of beer and wine. The food menu is very much in line with other Indian food places in the area. I ordered chicken tika masala. I also ordered plain Nan. It is delicious. The house Chardonnay is exactly as expected from a house wine. The bathrooms are a sink and a toilet behind a locked door. The one labeled women has a piece of furniture that looks like you might be able to change a baby on it. The one labeled male has grab bars for transferring from a wheelchair. New ownership - I respect the challenges of new ownership. My perception of the changes for the lunch buffet, include lots of heavy sauce dishes (multiple) with a measurable reduction in meat such as chicken. Lots of soupy dishes in the buffet without a lot of substance. Service was terrific for the buffet...love the attentive hard working staff. Wish them well ... but not interested in returning if this is the direction of the restaurant. I'll give it another try next month, and hopefully this was an outlier experience. read more

Best Seasoned Indian Food in Town We went for the lunch buffet today at Curry Leaf. This was our first time at this restaurant. We have eaten East Indian food all over town and have our favorites. The food at the buffet today was very well spiced and very well balanced. If they would have had butter chicken on the buffet we would rate it number 1. It is definitely though in our top 3. So here's my preamble... I was born and raised in South Africa, and in New York City, so needless to say, I have had some excellent exposure to real Indian cooking, which is pretty hard to find outside of a couple of major American cities. I was seriously blown away by the dinner that we ordered the other night. An excellent chicken masala, buttery, creamy and just filled with excellent spice. A knockout Madras fish curry that was fresh and flavorful. I have yet to try their lamb offerings, but I am guessing they are extraordinarily good, and I am going to go back for it in the next couple of days. Open until 9:30PM. Ordered paper dosa, butter chicken (Makhani), Chana masala, all medium-hot spice levels. No rice and no naan bread either for us, the dosa is enough carbs. $42.99. I do like their copper chafing pans for their buffet, looks cool. The water here is a bit odd. Not sure what's with the netted Christmas lights on the ceiling, many are out too. The dosa was colossally big here, super long, it's crunchy on the top, a tad greasy and soggy on the bottom. The Rasam soup and the potato, peas and onion masala were both really good with the paper dosa. The potato masala reminds me of a warm potato salad, it's good. The makhani or butter chicken was nicely seasoned. My hubby had a bit of gristle in a bite of his, but the flavors good. The Chana masala is also good, not scalding and white flavorful too. barely resembled indian food. decided to try the buffet so we could try the different dishes. pots all contained mainly a red/orange sauce except for the rice container. very few pieces of meat or dumplings or vegetables in the pots to identify the dishes. we found no meat (chicken, goat, beef, etc), flavors mostly non-existent. i usually eat at the taj majal or the new maharaja indian cuisine and was expecting a similar experience. very disappointed. will not return. maybe we just went on an off day. i hope. read more

We've been here twice so this is for two visits. This place has managed to provide the most delicious and great choices we've experienced in our memories. Curry leaf is pretty good..it's a typical fanfare for northern Indian food (they do have dosa as well though I believe!)..and my partner swore it's by far the best Indian food in Albuquerque given he had tried Indian food at many places around the town! Well I really don't know whether I believe that highly though...as he's not Indian and more Caucasian..so hey..how much would he know about Indian food authencity, right? :D Also..my other friend tries it..and she thought it was ok..there were other places she enjoyed more. For me, Curry Leaf was the only Indian place I tried in ABQ..and it was pretty good..but I honestly don't know where the place stood compare to other.Indian places in town. We got some curry, rice and naan to share during COVID. I would highly recommend ordering before hand before coming to pickup the food..because we had to wait close to 1 hour when we decided to drop in to order for a takeout at Curry Leaf! The food was good..but my standards may have lowered a bit since I generally enjoyed but rarely got to eat much Indian food these days! Ordered through grub hub for dinner. The portions were pretty small considering the price point. The chicken masala flavor was pretty average. I always order malai kofta- it's my go-to dish. This place's malai kofta had a weird chunky texture inside the dumplings. I'm used to having a smoother texture dumplings- I was a little put off. Maybe it's just their style? The sauce was still great though- rich creamy and a touch sweet. I'm not sure I'd order from here again.
