Awesome garlic na'an and chicken tikka masala or butter chicken spiced just right are the stars here. The people employees here are super friendly, and although I was doing takeout I was really surprised at how clean and large the dining area was. I will dine in the next time I swing through town if I don't have my dogs with me. The portions are huge, and although I really like a good chicken tikka masala I will share my wife's butter chicken as it had a better flavor then my regular go to, and with portion sizes this big there is no reason a single portion wouldn't serve two. Or maybe I'll hit up the buffet! This place gets five nom-nom's up as far as I am concerned.

Spicy Naan

We have been passing this place by and finally we planned to stop at Maharaja for dinner. First of all, the decor was absolutely eye catching from the murals to the pictures hung on the walls and the lamps and light fixtures, there was joy surrounding all the patrons. All the servers were nice, friendly, attentive, and periodically asking us how things were going and how food was. We ordered the chicken pakora for our appetizer. The crispiness of the chicken and the sauces were perfect. For our entrees we got the chicken vindaloo and the lamb biryani with the mandatory spicy naan. The spicy naan was covered in red chile with enough spice to get us going. It was not a heavy naan, but also not thin; it was a great help for the entrees. The chicken vindaloo was spicy, acidic, not overwhelming, and quite tasty with tender and juicy chicken pieces. The rice was subtle in flavors, complimentary to the dish, and allowed the vindaloo to shine. The biryani was fragrant and had a complex flavors. There was heat, sweet, and herbal flavors that hit at different times during the experience. The lamb cubes were tender and delicious. The cooking was on the rustic side, with cloves, anise, and date seeds that may get in the way but add to the dish. For the quality, taste, and amount of food, the price was exceptionally reasonable. Overall, this was a great experience full of flavors at a reasonable price. I think this place is a good addition to great Indian restaurants in Albuquerque.

I had to come check out the newest addition to Indian cuisine in town. The location is a bit off the beaten path and the layout of the place is a bit odd, such that I wasn't sure I was walking into their actual front door. That said, the place is nicely decorated and all the staff are really friendly. I did appreciate that water came with its own pitcher per table, as did our hot chai. Better than having to constantly ask for refills if you go through the beverages quickly! We came explicitly for the buffet which they have for dinner on the weekends. It's pretty extensive, there's a meat and vegetarian section, plus a section with salad and cold desserts. The hot desserts hide near the end of the main buffet, so don't miss them! I tried a variety of the vegetarian dishes and also the butter chicken (my meat downfall). It was all very tasty. I was a bit surprised at the saag paneer, it had more of a sweet flavor than I've been used to. Everything was very tasty, I'll definitely be back!

Yum!!! This place has the best Indian fare in Albuquerque. We enjoyed Baingan Bharta, Spicy Naan, & Veg Samosas. Ambiance is great, lots of comfortable seating, and service is top notch!! We always enjoy having a meal here and will be back again, and again, and again!

Having tried most of the Indian Restaurants in the area, a new one is a definite stop. In a strip mall and unassuming exterior belies what is inside. Opulent interior, someone spent a lot of time planning this one. Great painted walls and well place lighting for effect. Ok, but how's the food? Well excellent - Lamb Curry - delicious, nice spicing & tender lamb. Tikka Masala Chicken - flavorful and swimming in a rich tomato based sauce. The rice was simple but fluffy. The dishes came out family style providing opportunities to try both. The Garlic Naan was excellent, heavily butter coated with ample garlic flavor. The Strawberry Lassi was thick & good. It was like drinking a strawberry shake. Service was good and the chef/owner rounded frequently to check on diners. An excellent dining experience. This one is definitely a "don't judge a book by its cover" must try.

I really enjoyed this brand new spot. The location is a little random, but you walk in and it's a whole different world. They have an extensive menu with lots of good options for entrées, appetizers, and desserts. They also have a really good drink menu at what I consider affordable prices. Service was great, and our food was really good. I ordered the butter chicken because that's usually my go to. I also tried the iced chai and one of the dessert options that I can't remember the name of.

Charming, modern, sanitary but overall, delicious and exquisite. Had the Friday lunch buffet which is aligned with Sat., Sun. menus. See pricing photo. It is difficult to find goat offered in Albuquerque however, we found two halaal goat dishes. The ADA bathrooms allow equality and inclusion. I will not leave a review if an ADA bathrooms allow is not offered. Let the photos speak for themselves.

This was a good find I'd recommend! The entrees here were flavorful but small. This is a great venue for family-style dining, which is what my dining companion and I did. We had the garlic naan, which was freshly baked; chicken korma, which was mild and creamy; and Aloo Gobi, which is a vegan potato and cauliflower dish that had some oil in it. All dishes were ones I'd recommend.

Take home menu.

Our new favorite Indian restaurant. Peter is an excellent host and the ambience is wonderful. Being from India, I'm very picky about authenticity of the food and this place was better than any other I've had in town. Highly recommend.

I can!t say enough good things about this place. This was our fourth Indian food restaurant in ABQ we've tried in search for the authentic flavors we've loved in big cities. From the moment we walked in, we knew this was the place that would top our list. From the atmosphere, to the service, to the huge variety of food at the buffet, and the overall cleanliness, I give Maharaja a well deserved A+

Great food, very authentic. The brought our food and left us alone (in a good way) while we got some work done at the table. I'd come back.

Ask the Community - Maharaja Indian Cuisine

Do they serve beer and wine?

Last I heard they were applying for permits to sell beer and wine with approval coming any day. Possibly they already have it.

Do the entrees come with rice?

If you do the buffet, rice is included, if you order off the menu, you need to order rice.

If you have been reading my other reviews on yelp or Google you know my philosophy is that…read moresometimes you go to a restaurant and the food isn't that great or maybe it's awful. It a situation like that, barring getting ill or having the meal be too expensive, I always say, give it another try. Cooks and Chefs have bad days/nights just like all of us. So if you can, try giving the place a second chance. However, if the wait staff is bad. They ignore you, they're rude, or if they are mean there's really no reason to go back. Those people represent the customer facing side of business and if they don't care, what does that say about the rest of the place? I can already hear some of you saying hey, they have bad days too. You're right but in sales (I've been there) you have to work it out one way or another. It can suck but whether you feel it or not you are an extremely important cog in that machine. Well, let me tell you at Royal Hyderabad on Juan Tabo, every single time I go there they care about the food and experience. They are fantastic start to end. The last time I went I got there very early to pick up my food. They offered me a seat, brought me tea, and the woman at the front struck up a conversation with me. It was friendly, nice, and in my experience of the wonderful culture. About 15 minutes later my food was ready. The woman handed me the bag. She looked at her watch, then the bag. I took the bag thanked her and wished her a good evening. I walked out the door smiling to the other customers. I was outside when it hit me that I was WAY too early pick up my food and there were several other people in line. How could they finish my food so quickly? I stopped turned around, and the woman came running outside and asked me if I could just come with her inside and wait. She noticed my name remembered who I was on. The phone asked me if I was told my food was going to take a while and she said she wanted to check my bag just to be on the safe side. She didn't think the kitchen was running that fast. Well, she was right. I had a different order and the people in the back had just made a mistake. It was just a simple miscommunication, but instead of letting me leave, she came all the way outside as I was walking to the parking lot she stopped me, asked me to come back in and helped me. She then immediately went to the back, explained what it happened and one of the chef said he would make it right and he did he had my food out in just a couple of minutes. Was recognized the person there cared enough to come get me they thanked me. They admitted to a simple mistake. They fixed the problem. Everybody was smiling at the end, and all the other customers got to see it and quite frankly, they looked impressed because they all probably know how many times they've walked out of a restaurant with an incomplete or incorrect order and nobody cared. As I have likely said before, try Royal Hyderabad on Juan Tabo. Remember that if you can't handle hot food and I mean well beyond New Mexico hot food try medium or mild. The food is delicious and I've never ever not enjoyed anything that I've tried. And the people who work there seem to really care about their clientele and treat them so nice.

Had a great dinner at Royal Hyderabad - East! My friend and I ordered the sizzling tandoori chicken…read moreplatter, biryani rice, and a dosa, and everything came out fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The tandoori chicken especially had an amazing smoky flavor and looked awesome coming out still sizzling at the table. The portions were generous and the service was friendly and attentive throughout the meal. The menu has a lot of authentic South Indian options, and you can tell they put a lot of care into the food. Albuquerque definitely needed a spot like this, and I can see why so many people recommend it for Indian food in town. A couple small things I think could make the experience even better: the drink selection was pretty limited since they only offered Coke, water, and juice. It would be nice to see more variety. Also, they had music playing in the restaurant, but it was so low you could barely hear it, so the atmosphere could feel a little more lively with the volume turned up. If that changed I'd give them a five star. Overall though, the food and service were both great and I'd definitely come back!
