My first visit to Naan and Dosa and the food, service, and ambiance exceeded my expectations. I ordered off the menu instead of taking advantage of the lengthy buffet. I loved the chicken curry. In fact I could go back for dinner to have some more, but I will wait a day or two before I go back. The garlic naan was very warm and good-really good! There are no complaints about the service. In fact, they even provided me with paper products as I am staying at a hotel. The restaurant is very clean. Very disappointing. I'm not Indian but my husband is Indian. We wanted so badly to like this place. Nice enough people. But we just can't get past how mediocre the food was. And it shows you how limited the palates of New Mexicans are. It's a shame that restaurants in NM are terrible (except in Santa Fe) and restaurants take advantage of the limited tastes of people in ABQ. Restaurants don't try hard enough to be amazing. We went on a Sunday evening. They were only focused on the take-out orders. The food that came to our table was warmed-up left overs! But the food was not hot enough. Just warm. Food should be fresh (made that day) and more importantly, food should be "hot off the grill". Not warm, How could a place with "Naan" in their title have such boring unappealing naan? Even an Indian restaurant in Lincoln Nebraska does remarkably better! (The Oven) This place, Naan and Dosa, their chicken tikka dosa - the dosa was actually good but the chicken inside was terrible - chewy and again, not fresh and not hot. Their saag paneer would have been ok - except it had no flavor. Not enough spice. Plus, again, it was not hot enough. Taking advantage of the limited tastebuds of people in Albuquerque. If this was Chicago or N.Y.C., this place would never stay open. But ABQ does not know what great food is like. For the owners - do yourself a favor - and learn to improve. Go up to Santa Fe and eat at Paper Dosa (a remarkable South Indian restaurant but also serves meat dishes too). Go there and learn how to improve your place. Go to The Oven in Lincoln Nebraska. The entire meal was delightful, I called in an order close to their closing time and they were very kind and waited for me. 4.5 stars My parents tried this place years ago and thought it was good, so now it was my turn. We got there shortly after 5 on Thursday and the place started filling up quickly. The owner (my friend knew the owner and he told the story of how he split off from Curry Leaf) and staff were friendly. It took a little while to wait in between each course. I started off with a mango lassi ($3.99 - sweet and thick like a smoothie). We started off with the vada pav appetizer ($5.99 - a fried potato that you could taste a lot of saffron, stuffed in a roll, and served with several chutneys. We went with the garlic naan (4 pieces for $3.99) and split the butter chicken (savory and not too spicy). It came in a silver bowl with a side of rice. Even with splitting some of the butter chicken, I still had enough for 3 more lunches after that. We got two paper dosas $14.99), so the owner had to bring up another table to put it on. It was served with a sambar (a red lentil based soup), a coconut mint chutney, tomato chutney (that tasted like ketchup, and my favorite - the potato masala. I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet, I've bee coming here for a few years now. I like that they include dosas as part of the menu, it's a great addition the variety of Indian food that is found more commonly at a number of other places. The service is always friendly and very attentive. They refill the water and chai frequently and are quick to greet you once you're seated. I have never had a bad experience here. The parking lot can be a bit of an adventure, it's set back off in a little complex with a lot of other buildings. There's plenty of parking, but it's a small maze back there! I digress, on to the food. My meal here has always been delightful. I tend to stick to the vegetarian dishes and all have been very flavorful and not particularly spicy. Then again, I live in New Mexico so my spicy metrics may be way off. The dosas are also good and an interesting change of pace if you've never had one. Give this place a visit, you won't be disappointed. read more

the service was great and kind . everything came out hot and fresh . i will say we went on a sunday so i don't know if it was just due to that day but i didn't see a dinner buffet. i will say if your a naan person order about double the servings because one order dosnt give many it is cut up in multiple pieces but the they are small portions about size of my hand . The food was good and great as left overs . Only con is that it is ofc americanized . and compared to other indian food places in town i will say i wish it had more flavor . not necessary spice but actual flavor . i went with friends and it was about $25 each so not bad prices . they all said 5/5 stars . i will say personally as someone who has eaten indian food their whole lives and have eaten at multiple places and states ill give it a 3/5 . but overall would go again . read more

Our favorite Indian restaurant in Albuquerque. Late in making reservations for Valentine's Day, we could have ended up at Tacobell instead. Not dissing TB, it's another of my faves especially when traveling. I know what I'm going to get. Anyways, N&D set up their buffet for the night because last year, folks ordered from the menu and had to wait 1 1/2 hr for their meals. The buffet was a brilliant idea! Kudos! I loved the music that played in the background that was not intrusive, as music in a restaurant should be. Dessert was a sampling. There's a vibe about this place. After being skeptical for years, I finally ordered some takeout. The gentleman that assisted me was a kind soul, and you could tell that he wanted the order and the overall experience to be perfect. The packaging was impeccable. The food was really good. Smiles all around. My only issue was the ratios. The order comes with rice, but really there should be twice as much rice. Rice is cheap - there is really no reason to skimp on this. With the leftover gravy, I now have to make more rice on my own. Not a huge deal, but it should be addressed. Otherwise, would like to have a tad more seasoning in the gravy - a tiny bit bland for my taste, though the two people I dined with enjoyed theirs immensely. read more

Another Indian cuisine restaurant that came highly recommended. So here we are - in time for the buffet. It's busy for past lunch time. We were seated quickly and buffet explained. They had a large selection of vegan & gluten free entrees. But we are carnivores so we got the meat. Goat Curry, Butter Chicken & Tandoori Chicken atop basmati rice. Naan is served separately - regular or garlic . Each dish came nicely seasoned, not overpowering. The Goat Curry was tender - cut with a butter knife. The Butter Chicken came shredded and was equally tender. The Tandoori was not as dry as other places we've tried - it's always some level of dry. Really good!! My husband and I went for dinner and the atmosphere was romantic; we were welcomed and given a candlelit table. We got papadum which was perfect, and the accompaniments were so tasty. The tamarind and mint chutneys were fresh and bright. I've been to some places where the chutneys are watered down and this wasn't the case at Naan and Dosa. I got the malai kofta and garlic naan with raita, all really good! My husband got the butter chicken, and we shared a taj beer. My malai kofta was most certainly scratch made, and the slivered almonds on top were a nice touch. The raita was the perfect texture; some places don't make a good raita but this was one of the best I've ever had. The rice was also cooked perfectly. My husband enjoyed his chicken; he usually gets curried goat but today wasn't feeling up for it. Everything was so delicious, I forgot to take a picture because I was enjoying it so much. My family is from South India, so dosas are in my DNA. So you can imagine my delight when dad and I discovered this place during our road trip. The portions are certainly huge and it was nice to have an unexpected dosa in New Mexico. But if I'm being honest, you can tell a lot about a place by its sambar and the sambar here was just average. Same with the dosas - good but not mind blowing. There are a few other South Indian dishes but they do not taste authentic. This is essentially your standard North Indian restaurant with a few nods to Tamilian culture. read more

Soooo gooood!!! When we got there every table was filled and we waited about 5 minutes for the next available table. There's no buffet at dinner so we ordered from the extensive menu. We started out with a cup of chai which was delicious. Then we got a chicken curry dish, an eggplant dish, vegetable biryani, rice, and naan. We finished it off with a desert of Indian cheese patties w a sauce over them. It was ALL sooo wonderful!!! If you're a vegetarian they have plenty to choose from. Our service was excellent. The atmosphere as nice and relaxing. The male servers all wear the Indian turbans. Went there last week with gf and our 4 year old. They shared the lamb biriani rice dish, I got the shrimp curry. Everything was totally bland, tasteless. Shrimp was overcooked. They charge xtra for extra rice. Not spicy at all, which I like. Good and quiet ambiance though. Got the tv screens on and some Indian music. But given the awful food we would not go back. We walked in their was a line we had to wait to be sat, not too long. Their staff is busy keeping the tables bussed, swept and set quickly. They all help each other. They keep the whole restaurant very clean. The decor is bright and spacious. We were sat and a waiter was at our table taking our drink order, and told us to go help ourselves. We walked to the plate table, walked along the food Buffet. Basmati rice, Pakora, Sambar Vegan, Chicken Curry, Saag Paneer, to include gluten free and vegan. Two dessert, Gulab Jamun donut holes dunked in rose sugar coating, and Rice Kheer pudding. We drank Chi Tea with the cardamon flavor deep and water. All the food was flavorful, cardamon flavor recipes had just enough flavor. The food is made with quality ingredients and is being cooked and brought out to share with all of their customers. I'd been wanting to check out Naan and Dosa for a minute and recently had a rainy day opportunity to do so. Might I add, this is the perfect spot for some rainy day warmth. They chai was warm and delicious, they offered refills often so you definitely get your moneys worth. Next the garlic naan is so good, the perfect addition to their buffet offerings. Welcoming service with an elegant dining area. Beautifully put together restaurant overall! The dinner entrees were very good. I tried the Lamb Saag and Jini Dosa and both blew me away with flavor. The presentation (see photo) of the Dosa was so gorgeous I didn't want to take it apart. My only complaints are that the naan and rice are a little bland. I was pleasantly surprised by the tandoori chicken. It had a nice crisp char on the outside but it was juicy and moist on the inside. It also offered other dishes such as goat curry, which was perfectly cooked. They offer plain naan or garlic naan to all buffet eaters. Both were tasty and they are happy to bring more if needed. Solid Indian food. Chicken tikka was very creamy. A lot of heavy cream was added that it almost reminded me of vodka sauce in Italian cuisine. I was missing a bit more of the garam masala. I love vindaloo, but the vindaloo here was a bit lacking and not what I'm used to. Vindaloo is my favorite and I know it's specific to a certain region (Goa) so not every Indian restaurant offers it. So when I saw it on the menu I got very excited! Unfortunately, it wasn't what I was expecting, BUT still good. It was sweeter and lighter in color. I'm used to vindaloo being dark with a red tint and spicy! Anyway - service was great!! I don't have high expectations for service typically. Just treat me right and we're good, but here at Naan and Dosa they put a little bit of extra effort to make my family and I felt comfortable. We came to celebrate Mother's Day as a family and it was such a great experience. The staff was busy going from table to table and there was a slight wait, but overall very efficient service. If you like Indian food or are new to the cuisine, then I definitely recommend checking out Naan & Dosa. It's a good place to get your feet wet before diving in! read more

This was my first time having Dosa which was delicious. When they brought it out it looked like a huge slice of pizza. I was expecting more of a wrap but it was still manageable to eat in sections. It also came with two dipping sauces and soup. I also ordered the garlic Naan which was delicious and always a favorite of mine when made fresh. My boyfriend had the lamb vindaloo which was full of flavor. I helped finish his bowl because it was so much food and flavorful. We're usuallty very pleased with the authentic Indian cuisine and selection, but yesterday none of the buffet items seemed warmer than lukewarm - not healthy! I didn't eat dinner last night and my poor husband is still sick. The naan they brought to the table was great, but overall, a very disappointing experience in a restaurant I previously had a high regard for. Waiting to see if the owners respond to the email I sent. Nothing yet. We'll be going back to Taj Mahal Indian restaurant once my husband is over the bad Indian food experience. read more
