This is my favorite spot for Indian takeout in West Loop. I have fond memories as it was one of the first spots we had takeout when we first moved to Chicago two years ago. The staff is friendly and the food is always ready really quickly (15-20 mins) even if you're ordering 8 dishes like I did. The food is always hot and fresh, their garlic naan is amazing, and it feels like a fair price for the amount of food you get. Tonight we had vegetable biryani, two garlic naans, chicken Tikka masala, chettinad chicken, Manchurian cauliflower, dal palak (lentils with spinach), and Hyderabadi Bagaraa Baingan (baby eggplant curry). The chicken tikka masala was delicious and creamy. The chettinad chicken is one of my favorite dishes when I'm in the mood for something spicy. I have a medium heat tolerance and this dish will make me take a breather in the middle of eating. The Manchurian cauliflower is great -- it's breaded cauliflower in a sweet and spicy sauce. Much better than those popular buffalo cauliflower anomalies. The dal palak container was so full it was about to burst. It's creamy and it's a great serving of vegetables and lentils. The Hyderabadi Bagaraa Baingan was really good too - it has a lemony sauce. However it only comes with 2 eggplants. The packaging does a great job retaining heat. The food was piping hot even after walking 15 minutes back to our condo. The garlic naan is wrapped in foil so that's perfectly hot and crisp too. There's street parking on Taylor street and you can leave your blinkers on to pick your food up real quick. Okay here's the thing. The food is good - it's honestly one of the best Desi joints in Chicago. So why did I give them 1 star? Because they are STINGY as all heck with their rice. My wife is pregnant and craving their food so we've ordered from them at least a dozen times in the last two weeks. They give you a tiny 3oz container of rice to go with 8 oz of Korma. That is annoying and weird but okay, maybe it's their way of getting you to order more. So we start ordering an additional portion of rice and pay for it. So what do they do? They give us the larger portion of rice but then exclude the rice that originally comes with the meal. It wasn't a one time thing either - this has happened multiple times. It's so strange they provide such a poor customer experience over $0.15 worth of product. They're not a budget oriented restaurant mind you, you're paying nearly $20 a meal. Hot hot! Both on this incredibly sunny summer day in Chicago and also because this Indian curry restaurant is firing up the UIC Little Italy area. I've passed by this restaurant multiple times on my walks down Little Italy. I decided to finally try this place with a colleague and was pleasantly surprised. Don't let the outside fool you. While it looks small, the restaurant actually opens up with great atmosphere and decor to really compliment your dining experience. We each ordered the Tikka Masala ($15) one with chicken and one with lamb. It comes with a generous helping of curry and steamed basmati rice, while you can choose to add some naan-sense into your life. I went for their garlic naan but was sad to not see any kind of cheese or paneer option available. Oh well! The curry was definitely flavorful and spicy if you ask for that intensity. The spices were prevalent and every sniff of the curry brought satisfaction. Both the curry and the naan tasted great together and should definitely be a combination you explore. Out of the few curry joints in the area, I'd say Curry on Fire beats the competition. Sadly, they don't offer any sort of lunch deals so you'll be spending a similar price regardless of the time you frequent. I absolutely love their butter chicken. It's my favorite thing in the menu. The desserts are fantastic. I have never actually had the chance to sit down at the restaurant and eat that is on my to do list for summer. I always Uber my food from them and it always arrives perfectly at good temperature. Extremely Rude Customer Service. TLDR at the end. I had a takeout delivery set to pick up at 12:45. The restaurant opens up at 12:30 and the order was pretty large, so I did not expect the food to be ready by then. When I walked into the store, I asked how long it was going to take. The woman who greeted me said "Your food should be ready 12:45". I was suprised and asked if she was sure and she said "Of course!". However, even at 12:55, there was no sign of readiness. I asked how much longer and was told "just 5 minutes". Once she told me this, I ordered the uber to pick me up 7 minutes after. The food did not arrive on time and I had to ask the driver to cancel the Uber as I would not be able to make it. This was a time sensitive order, and any longer would have set our event back. I had to wait until 1:15 until the food was finally ready. (30 minutes from the initial time she told me the food would be ready) Honestly, I was not as mad at the food being late compared to the woman blatantly lying twice to me about the time. I had to call my supervisor multiple times about possibly delaying the event and had to cancel the Uber. I asked her why she lied to me about the time and to that she had very weak responses. She gave excuses such as "We just opened" (which I addressed if that would cause a delay as soon as I got in the restaurant) and they had everything ready but just needed the bread (which literally makes no sense in this argument). This is the worst part: I did not get a sorry from her at all. She gave me the food, had me sign the receipt, and walk away. I stopped her and asked her, "Am I not going to get an apology?", to that she said "We did the best we could". After she realized how rude that sounded, she gave me a "sorry", which could have not felt any more ungenuine. Her response made me boil in my head, so I decided to write this long winded review. My husband and I ordered a pick-up order from Curry on Fire one weekend, and the pick-up experience was great but the food was just okay. They had everything ready in about 20 minutes, so that was efficient. But their website has been under construction for months, so I actually had to order based on what other Yelpers had ordered. Not ideal, but I was very desperate for Indian food so I made it work. We ordered the manchurian cauliflower, naan, bhatura, and chicken masala. The manchurian cauliflower was delicious, but everything else was a little lackluster. The bhatura was a little too greasy and the chicken masala was a small portion and didn't even come with rice. I think we spent about $35 or so, and I felt like it was pretty overpriced for what we got (especially no rice!) We have yet to find a good Indian place to frequent, so we might go back just out of convenience. read more

Another example of a good thing turning to pure BS! I used to realltly like this place. Their food and customer service was very good when they had opened, so much so that I even had food for an office party catered through these guys. But it has gone to complete shambles now. I ordered food to go. Not only did they not give me an incomplete order, I had to go back to get the rest of my order. The least they could have done is feel apologetic about it. Any good place with decent customer service would have either given a discount or thrown in a small appetizer with the order for free. These guys were callous and absolutely non-chalant about someone putting in unnecessary effort, and that for their mistake. And then comes the ever available excuse, "Its a new management"! Wow! Five stars for the Manchurian Cauliflower, this spicy appetizer blew me away. Perfect crunch with every bite, large or small, I'm thinking these would be great for carry out as well. Nice experience at this small corner spot in the heart of Little Italy. It is small but laid out nicely. We all had the hot tea which was very interesting. Loved the Vegetable Biryani, loved fishing the potatoes out of this fantastic mix of greatness. My son had one of the Lamb dishes which brought some nice heat. I ordered delivery from Curry on Fire the other day. Hmm... I mean the food was OK. Definitely one of those rare times where Yelp reviews are a bit over-hyped. The food was decent. I had the paneer, which was OK, though I think there should've been more pieces of paneer. The daal makhani was also OK. Breads... butter naan, garlic naan, and paratha, all fine. Amazing. By the original owners of our old favorite restaurant Rangoli in Humboldt Park, which has unfortunately declined in quality after being sold. It's a small place with only a couple tables, but comfortable and the employees are always friendly. You'll recognize some Rangoli menu favorites like Gobi Manchurian (best you'll ever have). These guys make the best Indian food in Chicagoland, they also have another new restaurant named The Spice Room in Humboldt Park. For our visit to Curry on Fire, we tried the Gobi Manchurian, Veg Samosas, Paneer Butter Masala and Garlic Naan. Everything was fresh, delicious and barely stayed on our plates for minutes. The only food I've had that compares is my mother in law's cooking and food bought in India. Come and try this new place, you won't regret it! read more

Quality is great but I'm concerned about the prices and whether there'll be enough business to keep it open. For our group of three we ordered three entrees: a dal saag, mango chicken, and a goat dish. Add on, it was three breads (naan, garlic naan, and roti) and an order of plain rice. I thought all the dishes and breads were great but it did come out to $44 before tip. There were some leftovers taken home, but not a lot - maybe a small portion for one? It is on a location that is very close to campus - so I assume rent is high, and I don't think I spotted much under $10 other than the appetizers and maybe the biryani. That there are dining options (Indian and otherwise) nearby under $10 might be a problem. They do seem to be doing some delivery business, but inside there are only 3 tables so I don't think that dine-in alone can keep it afloat. Being from Rogers Park, price concerns me more since I have easy access to similiar quality Indian cuisine at a lower price. read more

First time going to this restaurant, we came in with no expectations as we love supporting independent businesses. The restaurant was fairly small with seating for maybe 3 or 4 groups, so depending on the day and hour, the restaurant may be too full and you may not be able to get a seat. The dynamic of this restaurant was a little strange. We were not sure if we needed to seat ourselves or wait to be seated as there is no host/hostess. There isn't really a waiter/waitress either. We ended up awkwardly seating ourselves and waiting, hoping that someone would notice us. After being noticed, someone from the back, presumably one of the chefs came to take our order. The wait time for our appetizers was a little longer than desirable (15min), and no water was given to us while we waited. It is clear that this place is meant to be a restaurant that you order to-go or delivery. In fact, this was the ambiance, just a bunch of food delivery drivers coming in and out picking up food. The food itself was very good. We would not go here to impress, but everything had a home-cooked vibe. Overall, the service was kinda lacking, with the food coming out in waves (another 15min after appetizers and 3 min apart for naan and then rice) as opposed to all at once, and us just standing around waiting to be noticed when we came in. The ambiance is not a place you want to be if you are looking for a nice dinner, but instead maybe a relaxed lunch with plenty of time to kill. The cauliflower Manchuria was great! We ordered an extra one after we finished the first! My family shared the paneer tikka masala, the veg tikka masala and the chicken vindaloo. The vindaloo had a very tasty flavor but it was spicy (I love spicy but it's not for everyone). The masala is a classic Indian curry and tasted as such. Our server was nice enough to give my younger brother a complimentary mango lassi (smoothie drink) which was delicious. The garlic naan was also good. One rice comes with each dish.
